I'm on T-Mobile here in the US. Not sure if anyone else is having issues. I've had my phone since the 6th. Up until yesterday it's all been perfect. Now every now and then the service just drops to "no service" followed by "emergency calls only" then finally comes back to normal. When I have signal, it's good. 4-5 bars. The drops are random. I'm stock + root.
Anyone else having problems?
Same thing is happening with Rogers

Hmmm... I have tried a couple ROMs but none lasted long enough without bugs to notice. I also flashed the stock image again just to be sure and it's still there.
There's an ongoing thread already on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525583
Also, there is a thread where a rep from Google, Paul, has acknowledged the issue. Please post your issues there for them to track/investigate:

Unlocked, stock rooted, stock kernal, and I'm having the same issues. Very slow when switching from lte to 3g and back to lte, sometimes it doesn't switch back to lte. Also the loss of signal. I though if factory reset back to stock but I guess that's not the issue.

According to this link:

It's a software issue.. I am getting the same thing on Rogers. I only get it after a call or when sending SMS. Frustrating issue, to put it mildly
I switched to bricked kernel my connections have been solid. Later I also switched to the Cataclysm ROM and so far so good.
I think it is a software issue.

Hey guys,
Ever since I got this phone, the mobile network is lost all of a sudden. Need to restart to get the signal back. Even at the same spot it lost.
Anyone facing the same issue and any fixes for the same would be appreciated.

Same thing with me, normally happens when the signal is lost from being out of range. Then signal just doesn't come back unless I reboot.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Same thing here on stock 2.3.2
Reboot gets it back so I don't know what was the original cause. I have just upped to 2.3.4 manually so I will report back if it happens with this new version.
Two days on 2.3.4 (non rooted) and have not noticed the previous problem yet. Does not mean it has gone away yet LOL
(no I didn't post this at 3:00am - I am on GMT +8)
Im still Running 2.3.3, Will be updating soon.

I was just wondering if any of you guys has experienced losing GPS signal and voice signal while GPS is used? I have had this happened to me several times. I was driving with GPS on and suddenly the phone just lost all signals. It'd not be that bad if the issue came from poor signal, but after that, it never regained signal. I had to manually turn on and off all the signal switches several times before it could reconnect.
Was there a triangle in the upper left side of the notification bar?

I don't think there was, the phone just lost signal completely. And it happened on 4.0.3 as well as 4.0.4

I would definitely recommend getting a replacement Phone, assuming you still can. If not, then you can try 1) restarting the phone 2) wiping and starting from new (backup first!)
I wish I could but I'm way out of the 30 days replacement. And I think it's software related as it doesn't happen that often and when it works it works real well too.
And I always wipe completely before installing new rom, but it still happened on 2 kernels. I'm thinking it maybe heat related as I was mounting it on the dash. Any thoughts?

It's very unlikely that its because of the dash. But you can check to see if the GPS locks at all by downloading an app called "GPS Test" by Chart cross Limited from the Play Store and see if the GPS even works. Good luck.

all the time (well, most days) does this indicate a SIM problem or a phone/rom problem? Normally seems to happen when I send a few texts consecutive, I need to toggle airplane mode to recover my signal.
Probably sim.

other people are having this issue too.

I have the same issue, Ive done some research and it seems like its a Android problem that when you loose signal for an extended period of time it wont reconnect to. I am having this issue after switching to T-Mobile and getting poor reception in my home.
Does anyone else have an issue where the LTE signal is not reestablished after a phone call? I have to reboot my phone to get the LTE signal back, otherwise it remains on HSPA+. I am in an area with full LTE signal (all bars). This is driving me crazy...

When a call gets routed through it uses the HSPA+ or HSPA or EDGE network to handle calls currently LTE does not do this so it may take awhile to reestablish your connection thou lte again
It NEVER reestablishes the connection though, stays on H.

I have no idea then, after about 30 seconds on T-Mobile the LTE returns again after being on H

Have you just tried throwing it in airplane mode for a second to kill the radio and see if it pulls and LTE connection after? I'm on AT&T and every once in awhile I'll have to do that when switching between cell towers while driving.
hmmm... that's strange, you shouldn't have to do anything. mine goes on H during the call, as soon as end the call it immediately (about a second) switches back to LTE. I'm not rooted or anything. everything is stock.
not sure if this will help but try doing factory reset and clear cache and such?
it would be easier if you gave us more details.
Custom ROM? kernel? rooted?
Everything is completely stock, never rooted etc. Seems to be slightly improved today. It has actually come back into LTE a couple times without rebooting. I've also tried the airplane trick a couple times and that has worked on occasion as well. Still hit or miss so I may just RMA it. Appreciate everyone's help!

Don't mean to necro this thread, but just looking for some additional input.
RMAd my device and the new one exhibits the same behavior which leads me to believe it's the network in my area. Anyone ever experience the same thing especially in area with new LTE?

Hello, I have searched around but I haven't found anyone reporting this particular issue nor one similar enough to troubleshoot on my own based on those solutions.
I recently began noticing that I was experiencing an issue where data LTE/hspa appears connected, but no information is transmitted. If I put airplane mode off and then back on, data reconnects and all is fine until it happens again. This is occurring multiple times per day.
I am running cataclysm ROM with Franco #40 right now.
Any help would be much appreciated.

are you undervolted?
I did not attempt to undervolt so unless Franco is doing that automatically, which I am inclined to believe it is not, I do not believe so.

any issues with your provider?
Not that I am aware of, it's T mobile but I typically have very good-excellent LTE coverage.

I've seen it happen on occasion. The only thing I would suggest is trying stock to see if you can reproduce.

i have tmobile as well, and had that happening to me several weeks ago. it started happening suddenly, was like that for several weeks, and stopped happening just as sudden. i think it might be an issue with tmo, or something that they are doing. anyways, putting it in airplane mode then back always fixed it for me when it did happen.
Good to know. I will call them if it continues.

Also with t mobile and had this issue suddenly start about two weeks ago. Very annoying. I do the airplane mode trick to get it working. Where are you located? I'm in Sacramento, ca

no.
bars dont turn orange, and a connection is shown. data just stops flowing. turning on airplane mode then back fixes it every time.
Same thing
I am on Metro PCS (t-mobile) and have the same issue as others. Weird thing is I only noticed after activating a replacement Nexus 5 I just received. Can't say I remember seeing this so frequently on the original (wasn't paying as close of attention though).
Probably just something up with t-mobile. Might try reflashing the radios. My original Nexus 5 updated via OTAs where as the replacement came with the 4.4.2 stock image pre installed.
