[Q] Switching from Iphone to WP7!! :-D Anyone can suggest a good place to buy a WP7? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys. im an old iphone user and now thinking about switching to wp7. have Omnia 7 in mind can anyone suggest a good site for it? i want to buy an unlocked version and get it shipped to the US.
btw, my gf has an Omnia 7 US T-mobile version. she cant get the copy paste function even after updating it all the way. any clue??
thanks

Go for HTC hd7 it's amazing
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

Having used the HD7 and owned both the 7 Pro (Arrive) and the Omnia 7, I can say that the Omnia 7 (16 Gb version) is the best of all 3 devices for consumers. The NAND memory makes the user experience more fluid and the AMOLED screen wipes the floor with the HTC screens. Plus the screen isn't much smaller than the HD7.
However, if you plan on ripping the phone apart to add more storage, want to use homebrew applications or flash pre-release ROMs, then the HD7 is the superior device - simply due to community support! That, and the hardware keyboard, is the only reason I switched from my Omnia to my 7 Pro.
edit: And to answer your original question:
http://www.expansys.com/samsung-omnia-7-i8700-16gb-217100/

HTC phones have more options for hacking/development. go for the HD7.
I'm using it right now. and i'm the happiest boy in the world!!

Why are you thinking about moving to WP7 now? I would wait until Nokia comes out with their devices. Clearly MS is looking at Nokia to make WP7 or 8 into a contender, in their earnings call they only mention WP7 in terms of their partnership with Nokia. No update on how many licenses were sold or how much money WP7 generated.

You know, nobody even attempted to answer his question.
One option is ebay.
You can also try gsmarena.com. Click on the phone you are interested in and on the left hand side you will see some places that carry the phone.
Omnia 7 can be had for in the mid $300 to mid $400 range now.
HD7 is about that too, sometimes less than the Omnia 7.
I would pay no more than $400 for either. I prefer the Omnia 7. I have read bad things about the original HTC HD7 screen. Plus the memory expansion and the camera on the Samsung are features that may sway you. On the con, the Omnia 7 has seen its update issues.
Edit: now saw your edit Blade

Omnia 7
Thanks for your replies. I decided to go for it.. I got a new, unlocked HD7 from the AndarinStore.com. Surprisingly, their listing for the omnia 7 is a bit cheaper.. 349.99, any idea why? I liked the look of the htc more,, although. It wasn't an easy decision.

I have never heard of that site. They do not carry a whole bunch of original phones, or anything else for that matter. Why did you end up choosing them?
Windows Phone devices are so similar that it comes down to personal preference in screen size, and build. Most have one differentiator (DLNA, Dolby Surround, 16GB Internal, AMOLED, 8MP Camera + Xenon Flash, Slide out, Slide up) but for most nothing that is an absolute deal breaker.
If they made the Samsung internals in the Mozart casing I would be sold.

having an htc, dell, and samsung
for multimedia, the samsung devices wipe the floor with htc and dell. Easily. For business (keyboard) I like the dell but there are a myriad of issues with it. Finally when it comes to hacking the htc is good for you

best phone ever!! best price ever!!!

Unfortunately you can't upgrade the memory on the Omnia because it's NAND, rather than the standard SD card. That's why the 16Gb Omnia is the superior option - but that's only available in Europe if I remember right.

The 16GB version of Omnia 7 is only available on eBay or Amazon.de.
I went through several WP7 (LG Optimus 7, Omnia 7 8GB) phones until I ended up with the Focus. I chose Focus because it's almost the exact same specs as Omnia 7, but it's lighter (119g) and has a SD card. The major drawback is that it doesn't have a ROM so you have to rely on the backup if something happens. Also, the memory is not NAND but that's not something I care now, as I have a total of 24GB of memory...
Now, I also suggest you have a look at the HD7S. In term of customizing, HTC phones are close to none, so you might want to have a look at it. The same specs as HD7, but the screen is SuperLCD. Haven't personally seen one, to express any opinion towards it, though.

Be careful if you use ebay. There are a lot of devices floating around stuck in demo mode being sold.

Upgrade to hd2?

So i think i wana get the hd2 but im not so sure yet. currently i have a htc fuze and i am thinking of selling it and getting the hd2. but what do you guys think? is it worth the 150 to upgrade with tmobile? i have tmobile currently and i have an upgrade. so the phone would only be 150. but i was wondering if its a good phone and if its even worth upgrading at the moment
thanks
compare and evaluate
Have you looked at and held the HD2 at a store yet? I recommend that you experiment with it if there is a T-mobile store near your residence or work place. I also recommend that you do an online search and read every review and as much about the HD2 features as you can before making your decision.
The HD2 has a 1 GHz processor, an enlarged capacitive touch screen, and a 5 mp camera. As far as user interface, depending on which rom you are using on your Touch Pro, you might not notice much difference. However, the Touch Pro has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and the HD2 relies soly on a virtual keyboard.
A lot depends on what is important to you. Do you want or need a better camera, faster speed and larger screen? Will you miss the slide out keyboard? If you answered "yes" to the first question and "no" to the second, then the HD2 might be for you.
You'll also need to consider how contented you are with your T-Mobile service. If you are happy where you are and don't mind signing another 2-year (or whatever you are being offered) contract to get the HD2 at your upgrade price of $150, then it sounds like a good deal. You could easily sell your used Touch Pro on eBay for $100 to $150 (if it is still in good condition) further reducing your overall output for the HD2. Alternatively, you might just want to keep your Touch Pro as a back-up device.
Ultimately, this is a personal choice that only you can make.
Poster above is right, only you can make the choice, i miss the Phisical keyboard on the HD" (Luckily, i also have a TP2 ) i cant think ot aswome a HD2 with a 1GB rom is. make thw right coise FOR YOU!
Good luck
yes ive held the phone before and pplayed with it. my uncles has one and i fell in love. so i think i made my decision.. im going to sell my tp and get the hd2! yay

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread but...
I am looking at upgrading my contract early and can get an HD2 for $35 after $50 mail-in rebate. My question is ... Is this a phone that will still be a good phone in 2 years? Or should I save the money and drop $200 on a Sensation after the $50 mail in rebate? I like either phone and to be honest I will be installing a sense 3.0 ROM on the HD2 if I get it. Is the dual core going to be that much faster than the single core that it would make the phone lag real bad?
Thanks for the help.

Installing a Sense 3.0 rom on a phone that didn't originally ship with it will make a difference in performance. Sense 3.0 roms are generally pretty large. I'm not really familiar with the HD2, but I know that Sense 3.0 roms on the Evo leave very little internal memory. It's best to have a partitioned SD card if you want to install very many apps. Again, I'm not familiar with the internal storage on an HD2, but it's something to keep in mind.
If you're planning to keep the phone for two years, I think it's best to go ahead and spend the extra money on the Sensation. Since it comes stock with Sense 3.0, those roms will be much more stable. Some people downplay the difference between newer dual core phones and older phones, but I feel that the difference would be worth the price. I haven't upgraded my Evo, but I stick with AOSP and never run anything heavy. I'm not due for a full upgrade, so I'd rather hold out.

Eligible for Upgrade. Help?

So my upgrade finally came. I'm with AT&T and I need help on deciding what my next phone should be
I have narrowed it down to:
iPhone 3GS
HTC HD7
Sony Xperia 10
All run great OS' which is why this is though. Help guys!
Can I have the pros and cons of each?
( BTW I've used all of the OS' so thats not an issue )
Iphone4 will drop in price when the 4s comes out so that's better than the 3gs. HD7 is a Tmobile phone. The galaxy s2 just dropped on att which will be your best bet. That phone is a beast. Or check out the LG Thrill. Come see me at Costco- I'll sell you the Thrill for $30.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
I believe it's like the HD7S or something like that. Thats the AT&T variant.
Even though the price will drop, it wont by much. I'm not looking to spend more than $50 on the upgrade.
The Thrill is a beautiful phone. I wish I had it.
EDIT: I just checked the Thrill is $100 with the upgrade.
I was also looking at the Impulse 4G. How's that device?
I suggest to trade the Xperia X10 to Xperia Arc, the phone has more or less the same specs in quantity, but quality is even better (new gen.)
And I preffer the Arc. About carriers, I don't know how works on USA, because, as you can see, I'm from Brazil.

If you don't get an iPhone 4 or 4S, go for the HD7S. It's probably going to be your best choice. Not because it's a full-featured phone, but because of it have better specs.
However, if you can muster enough money, these would be better choices:
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S
Infuse 4G
Galaxy S 2
Inspire 4G

Not at all. The WP7 is a MS version of the iPhone. But even then, the iPhone is still more easily customized. But of those phones you listed, the HD7S is the best one for specs. It has a higher res display, better CPU and better memory configuration.

You've made some great points. I just realized without the sale until the 11th, the HD7S would be $200. I can get it for 1 cent as of now. I watched a review of the device, and it sealed the deal. I'm going to go with the HD7S

You should be able to upgrade it to Mango...the latest OS version of WP7. I won't guarantee it will update because MS is being idiotic with the update system of WP7 where some people are favored over others and they get the update before anyone else. It's a huge fiasco. But if the HD7S does update to Mango, it should be a treat.
To this day my Focus Rev 1.3 will not update to Mango, even though it's suppose to. I think MS has me on a blacklist.

The HD7 and HD7S both are gorgeous phones. They feel exquisite in the hand and the HD7S has a better display than the T-Mobile HD7. Plus it has a huge 4.3" display. I had the T-Mobile version before coming over to AT&T and loved it. It was so sweet and elegant. WP7 matched its looks perfectly. WP7 is a super-finely smooth and elegant mobile OS like none other. You should respond to it like every other person on the planet has, enjoying its smoothness, simplicity and elegance.
Be warned, though. Until you get Mango on it, it will lack a lot of common features. But the games and apps tend to be generally high-quality.
Thanks for the help!
I have no problem watching for Mango. It'll get it eventually.
I work in a Target mobile and the 2 latest Android phones for ATT are Galaxy S 2 for 199 and LG Thrill for 80. You also have the 2 new blackberries and of course, the iPhone 4s witch will cost 199, 299 and 399 for the 16, 32, and 64gb respectively. You also have the option to purchase an 8gb iPhone 4 model for 99.
But my suggestion is the Galaxy S 2. Killer phone!

sounds to me your are not a tech guy or after the new tech.
i would suggest you the iphone 4. for $100.
it's easy to use and will keep up much better with the future than the 3GS.
And I am a tech guy. It's just been a LONG time since I've had the option of getting a somewhat high-end phone. I was just looking for some of the opinions of the forum members is all.

I need some help here.

Well, I bought the HTC 7 Surround 2-3 weeks ago and I first had one problem at the time. Previously, the phone never used to boot past the white HTC boot screen. After a few huff-n-puffs and taking the phone to a friend, was that problem fixed. Now I have a problem with two things. Firstly, by playing games on the Surround, the phone heats up, just like it used to do on my HTC Sensation 4G. The second problem is that the phone keeps on randomly freezing for no apparent reason. Also, the speakers weren't all that up to the mark as the descriptions were describing them to be, which was the main reason for me buying the HTC 7 Surround in the first place. Other than that, it's a pretty good phone and even though it was my first time using a W7 phone, I found the interface really good and I want to use them to the full extent that I can. I found W7 much more a better experience than the Android. Though, I do not dislike Android developments either.
I might have spare cash to spend on a phone, after selling some junk I had been meaning to get rid of, in a month or so. Which one of these W7 phones should I get?:
HTC HD7
HTC Titan
Dell Venue
Samsung Focus
Oh and if there is an android that someone likes, I might go in that direction as well as long as it's a phone looking at and giving a wow on. Thanks for all the help and long live XDA Developers!

Wow, I thought at least one person would have thought of replying to this.
First, take your phone back for the manufacture warranty, I highly suspect that is hardware problems.
That highly depends on your taste. Big screen, medium screen. I prefer Trophy over HD7. The screen is too big. 3.7" is enough here. So no HD7 and Titan. Maybe, HD7.
Dell Venue I wouldnt even try. The hardware is ugly and, well, Dell is not meant to be phones.
Focus is pretty nice, I think. But Titan has the best hardware.
Your choice.
If you like big screens, the Titan is the way to go at the moment at least
Wait a week and see what Nokia world says and if any of those phones are going to be released in the US (or if you'd be able to import one over from Europe).
Samsung Focus S will be out soon. It will doubtlessly be the best WP7 device on the market.

Yes, I heard of it from a few friends that are eager for it as well. A few are either going for the Mozart, Focus or Titan. [Q] iPhone 3GS Or HTC Radar

Ok Here Is The Deal I Broke My Phone So i Thinking Of Getting A New One And Im Thinking Of Getting The iPhone 3GS Or The HTC Radar And Here Is Why:
iPhone 3GS:
Well Im Not So Good On Money So i Want Something That Is Decent On Speed And Gaming.
HTC Radar:
Again Since Im Not Good On Money A Want Somthing Fast With Good Graphics For Gaming And That Looks Cool And Has Something Different From Other Phones.
Well The Reason Im Asking For Your Opinions Is Because I Love Gaming On Portable Devices And Because I love Windows Phones But Im Not Sure About Jailbreaking Windows Phone And i Know Everything On How To Do It On iPhone But I Love Windows.
HTC, because it is better.
Ofcourse it is HTC Radar
If you had to pick between those two, then go for the HTC Radar, which not only runs WP 7.5 (which is smooth), it has a decent camera and you'll likely be receiving future software updates as Microsoft has a good update policy towards Windows7 phones. iPhone 3Gs might be free, but it's on its last tank of gas in terms of support by Apple and it's hardware specs. It just won't satisfy many users today, if you're looking for a modern smartphone.
I would suggest picking up something even better than those two, like a Samsung Galaxy SII phone which can be bought for free (with a 2 year contract, of course) if you look for deals online. It's awesome for gaming and it's one of the fastest phones out there. Or go with the Sony Xperia play, also a good choice for gaming.

agreed. there are plenty of good phones out there for cheap.
3GS. If you're even asking, then an Android powered phone is not for you.
For hardware the HTC will be the better of the two...maybe not speed, but graphics, display and such. For games, the iPhone can't be beat.
If you are wanting a gaming phone, the iPhone would be the one to get right now. If you want better hardware...higher res display and such, the HTC will be the one to get.
Also, the battery life will be better with the iPhone. WP7 is horrible for BL right now.
Seriously? Why do you even ask? The 3GS is ancient. The screen is horrible, the camera worse and soon it wont even be able to run the latest games. The Radar on the other hand has a nice screen, a fast snapdragon processor and will probably have a huge support hy Microsoft.

OP, the iPhone 3GS is old now, and like you said, you're low on money so why on Earth would you go for an iPhone when you pay an extra 50% just for the logo on it?!
I'd go Android and get a HTC Sensation, but between these two I'd go for the Radar, especially as you said you love WinMo

actually, it's windows phone. Winmo has been dead in the water for years now... Good riddance. Windows phone is the only OS you can get that's lag free and in terms of performance it blows the others away. Also, if you're an Xbox owner, there's no other viable option. Radar all the way man, time to enjoy your mobile experience.

piracy is frowned upon on these forums...
iPhones an amazing piece of tech especially the apps however the 3gs is old now while the radar is very new. The pre installed mango update is really very good on the radar. Also there are tons of apps already available for it. I'd say radar without a doubt.

HTC Radar by miles

Do you think HTC will release an updated ChaCha this month?

So HTC are announcing four new smartphones at the end of this month.
I really want a ChaCha but the small memory and the fact it'll probably never get ICS are holding me back.
Do you think one of HTC's new phones will be an updated ChaCha? Even if it's just another low-end phone with a similar form factor? If I get one, it'd be replacing a BlackBerry so the touchscreen and keyboard is perfect for me, I just wish HTC would care about it a bit more.
So do you think HTC will bother upgrading the ChaCha? It's been around for a while now and prices have dropped quite a bit, so I'm hopeful they'll do a new one with slightly bumped up specs and ICS.
Bigger screen is main thing that would tempt me!
sent usin' tapatalk innit.
Screen is ok-ish..
More internal space + better battery
More memory and ICS is good enough for me, do you think it'll actually happen though?
I've seen new details and it seems the chances of a new ChaCha are basically non-existent, so my next question is, should I order one now or wait until after the new HTCs come out so the prices drop? Or has it already hit rock bottom at £119 anyway?
I highly doubt it. I think it wasn't HTCs best phone. And not what they're recognised for

Honestly I think it's very underrated, it's a great BlackBerry competitor, they just need to put more effort into it.

Yeah. Plus people looking for a BlackBerry styled phone may aswell get the BlackBerry. I personally think the ChaCha isn't the greatest looker and neither in specs wise

I have a BlackBerry at the moment but it's rubbish. I do, however, like the form factor and keyboard, and would very much like an Android phone with those features. If HTC brought out a new phone with a QWERTY, the classic "bar phone" form factor, and better specs than the ChaCha, it'd be perfect as far as I'm concerned.
Still have 3 months before I can change my phone; currently using a X10 Mini Pro.
Really would like a Mark II ChaCha with better camera and more built-in memory. The alternative for me is a Xperia Pro, but I prefer a candybar QWERTY...
Is there a way for us to petition HTC? I am tired of all the touchscreen-only phones in the market
Yeah. I know BlackBerry are rubbish. But I know lots of people who have them, 91% of students in my school have BB. 5% have iPhones and like literally 5 people have Androids. And 3 are my friends. So from where I'm coming from, and like all sxhools in uk, BlackBerry is more popular than the Android. So I think majority of the population will buy a blackberry.

BlackBerries are starting to lose their popularity a bit now I think. I'm seeing more iPhones and Androids every year. I even know a guy who's got a Windows Phone 7 phone.
Honestly I think a ChaCha with decent specs would be a brilliant device and would lure people away from BlackBerries.
We shall wait and speculate. I hope the next ChaCha will look nice.

i don't feel comfortable with touch screens, i just changed my wildfire for a chacha.
I think also, i missed a trackpad!
I always fear that someday, the screen breaks, even if a gorilla is blitzed in!

Pfah... I wonder why everyone calls this "Blackberry-Style".
I like this type of phone, I had a Palm Treo 600 that time where no one knew about Blackberry, and I had a Nokia E71 afterwards. But I won't by any Blackberry, because their Keyboards are worse than those of Nokia, Palm or HTC. And the OS also isn't good, but maybe QNX will make it better. But I heared that they don't have many options for synchronizing the device with the computer.

I'm using chacha currently, and it's very good compare to bb. Because still you can backup your contact via google, and it have thousand upon million free apps. With 512 RAm & same amount of ROM, it run smoothly with beautiful android sense UI..go on try it, you wouldn't regret it. Oh, and the display is crisp clear with the gorilla glass.
Yeah I've used the phone and a friend of mine owns one and tells me it's good, I'm just waiting to see if there's a new version being announced next week or not. If not, I'll probably buy one. If so, I'll wait for the new one.

Really? Here in Europe you only hear that BB is in trouble and losing market shares rapidly.

I agree competely. I personally just ditched my BlackBerry Pearl 9100 for the HTC Status aka ChaCha. I like it way better.... except for the low internal memory. I just managed to complete the root but I'm still learning (I'm very new with Android) and just need to partition the SD card so I can enable a2sd.
