Thanks

If someone offered a Tilt2 for a Touch HD it would be his or her dream come true.
There is nothing on the Touch HD that is better than the Tilt2...
The only thing that the Touch HD has compared to the Tilt2 is the damn 3.5 mm headphone jack. Are you serious about the trade? Cause your question doesn't make sense.
So of course someone would trade (give) his Touch HD for a Tilt2.
Is your sentence wrong? Because if it is then this would seem to be a more plausible question: Would anyone trade his Tilt2 for my Touch HD?
The answer would be hell no. Unless the Tilt2 was heavily used, full of scratches and has hardware/software issues, no one will want to exchange it for a Touch HD.
Well I know only diff is that the Tilt gets Att 3G, the button QWERTY, and doesn't have a 3.5mm.
I really like listening to music and I use my phone as an Mp3 player because I dont want to carry a phone and a Zune.
I want the 3.5mm headset jack and don't mind the lack of a keyboard. I was just wondering If I did get the Tilt2 if It would be crazy to try to trade it for a Touch HD.
Thing is I'd have to get a dataplan to get the Tilt 2 to trade for the HD and then I'd have a touch HD that can't use the dataplan I'd now have.
I already have the Incite which has WinMo 6.5 and a 3.5mm, So I guess I'd still use the dataplan when I have my sim in the Incite.
So The question is do I want to stick with the Incite and it's Wifi
or
Do I get a dataplan and a tilt 2 that I trade for a Touch HD and only use the dataplan when the Sim is in the Incite.
Or I do as above but give the dataplan to my brother's phone and Just have a Incite and a Touch HD both with just Wifi.
Too bad I cant get the HD2... XD Because while it's hard to decide how badly I want the Touch HD over the Incite, the only real difference is that the Touch HD has a bigger screen.
If I had the choice to get the HD2 over the Incite it'd be a no brainer. The HD has the Snapdragon, more RAM, more internal ROM, a bigger screen that is capacitive. I dont even mind it doesn't get at&t 3G.

If you don't flash your phone then you are stuck with a phone with older software. Also, the finger friendly Windows Mobile 6.5.3 is probably not officially supported by HTC on your HTC Touch HD, so you probably will need to flash it on your own.
And trading a Tilt2 for that would be freaking crazy.
I'd like you to know that the HTC Touch Pro2 has the one of the best keyboard around, I mean it's better than any blackberry, better than my Nokia E90, better than any android phone so far, and better than a touch screen keyboard, of course better than Palm, etc!!!!!!!!
If anything, trade it for a Nokia N900. Though, not windows mobile, it's processor is faster than the HTC Touch HD, meaning less likely to have skippy music or delay during music playback. Furtheremore, the N900 speaker is just as good as the N95, and most people who know about phones can verify that the N95 speakers are not only very loud, but very high sound quality, and you get two speakers like on a laptop. And it has a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The Tilt2 also has tilting screen, so you can watch videos while working on a table, which is kinda geeky but whatever.
Tilt2 also requires a data plan if you get it on ATT. So why would you pay for data plan just to use a phone that doesn't support the data plan. Isn't that stupid? And if you are going to buy a Tilt2 on eBay or something, just buy a Touch HD so you don't go through with the trade.

The HTC Touch HD does not have a snapdragon, has less RAM, and less ROM, and it is resistive.
The HTC Touch HD2 has a snapdragon, more RAM, and more ROM, and it is capacitive.
Thanks for confusing me. Next time, pay attention to the series number, and report the right number, or you will get different answers.
For the Touch HD2 yeah the swap seems plausible, if you do it now, you might get a swap, but I suggest keeping your Tilt2 unopened and 100% brand new. Do not peel any stickers or anything. If you have to get your hands on it use latex gloves, but do not peel the sticker on screen.
Next, you have to swap it with someone with a used HD2 who really abhors his HD2. But soon, the HD2 for T-Mobile will come out, and it will be impossible for you to find someone to swap an HD2 because it has become more valuable for the Americans, and they wouldn't want to swap you. Why? Well because the ones with the European Touch HD2 are going to get the American version for T-Mobile. So right now there will be people more willing to trade it for a brand new Tilt2.
Or, if you are smart, just go month to month with ATT until the T-Mobile HD2 comes out. I heard that month to month on ATT doesn't charge you more, it just means you can cancel anytime or renew a contract for a brand new phone.
But when the T-Mobile HD2 comes out, transfer your phone number to T-Mobile and sign a contract with T-Mobile for an HD2 with a data plan that you actually use.
BTW...I think that swapping it will be very hard, and what you are doing is crazy, and I knew it when you said that you "weren't looking for a trade" you were actually looking for a trade, cause obviously if someone wanted to trade you would trade.

I know about flashing phones, my Incite it running Dark Wolf's newest 6.5 Rom
I like the Tilt 2 also but the 3.5mm is like critical to me.
I dont want to get a phone that isn't Winmo.

Sorry about that, it was a typo, the HD you bolded I meant to type HD2.
The point of this thread was just to find out if I got the Tilt 2 if I could trade it for a Touch HD because I really want that 3.5mm. But you're probably right because the Touch HD cant use the dataplan I should probably just keep my Incite, But If I could trade a Tilt 2 for an HD2 then I'd probably get the Tilt 2 and do what I said about just using the dataplan I'd now have on the Incite every once in a while or put it on my brother's phone since I bet he'd like that.

Are you considering switching to T-Mobile for the upcoming HD2?
well I'm currently on my dad's family plan so I'm not sure, plus I dont know how much the HD2 will cost even with new contract so I'm not too sure about that.
The problems with getting a contract with T-mobile is that Calls between my family and my best friend and I wouldn't be free. Plus I'd have to get the T-mobile dataplan which I dont really want especially because it's not as good at at&t's

Well just get the phone and do with the trade. If you can't do it, at least you have the best phone there is on ATT (aside from the iPhone).
I wouldn´t trade my Rhodium for a Blackstone
So people would trade a HD2 (Leo) for the Tilt2 (Rhodium)?

Well the HTC Leo costs 800 dollars.
The ATT Tilt2 costs 500 dollars.
The HTC Blackstone costs 500 dollars and if you are lucky may cost around 300-400 dollars.
Tilt2 trade for Blackstone is a guarantee.
HTC Leo trade for a Tilt2 is almost impossible.
Not me, as hardware keyboard is a must.
Even if Leo has better specs...I prefer Rhodium!
I'd be willing to get and trade a tilt2 for a HD2... question is should I get the Tilt 2 and try?

You can try. It's not that I think it's a bad idea what you are doing, but it's that it's really hard. I wouldn't do it because the HD2 is a league higher than the Tilt2, and it's hard to get someone to trade his HD2 for the Tilt2.
to me the HD screen and integrated buttons are much more appealing while the Tilt 2 is really just the next generation of a long line of HTC phones. Now that the HD2 is out, I think the Tilt 2 has lost some luster and this wouldn't be such a one sided trade anymore. I may even consider it, lol.
So, I'm looking to get a new phone soon. I'm budgeted for $500$850 in mid-May for it, tho I'd be willing to wait as long as August or September if something really awesome is coming out.
I'm on T-mobile, so need a GSM phone that works on T-Mo, with T-Mo's 3g.
I'm hooked on Android, so whatever phone it is has to run Android (tho if I have to flash Android onto it, I'm cool with that, so long as there's a fully working ROM available!).
I've got a G1 now, and really like it, but I'd like a bigger/higher res screen (min 3.5 inches&800x400ish res), and a faster phone, so, faster CPU&more RAM. (I've got my g1 running cyanogen with the 10MB hack, and it's pretty decent, but I've got upgrade fever and want BETTER *grin*.)
I love the hardware keyboard, but have been using swype since they opened it to beta and could see myself living without a hardware keyboard. (Tho I'd rather not, as I've had phones with hardware qwerty keyboards since 2005 or so!)
I also want a good camera. The camera in the g1 is alright. I'd like a better one, but one about the same would be ok.
oh, and it definitely needs to used microsdhc. I'd prefer if the memory card slot was pretty accessible, as it is on the g1, but I can live with it being under the battery or somewhere stupid like that.
So, what phones should I be checking out?
I've only ever had 1 smart phone: HTC Desire. Can't fault it. I note you like the hard keyboard, but the Desire's soft keyboard is very good.
The Desire defintely meets most of my specs. On wikipedia it says 32Gb microsd. Did it come with a 32GB memory card, or is wiki just listing the max supported?
thats its max. it came with a 4gb, but i'd check that when you buy it. Mine was HTC branded (unlocked). The card was already in the phone, so when i was in the shop i thought it didn't come with one.
Good to know, thanks. I'll be buying it online if I get it, since I'm in the states, but I'll be sure to read the listing to see what size card it's got!
Do you have it rooted? I see it's been rooted but /system can't be accessed. Well, still, odds are that'll be done well before I'm looking to buy!
No i don't. At this stage I'm not too bothered, but almost certainly will mess with that soon.
Look at the Nexus One & it's resume' over at it's forum section
Nexus one is certainly a possibility, but after the 3g issues, I'm sorta hesitant.
I think that the Nexus 1 or the HTC Desire are the best android devices that are released. I would suggest the Xperia X10 but it's firmware is outdated and lacks multitouch and is super laggy regardless of the snapdragon processor. So, for now, and if you need 1 now, then get the Nexus 1 or the Desire.

What 3G issues? I & most N1 owners have none & are locked on 3G all the time. The only issues are T-Mobile's coverage & towers!
I meant the 3g issues it had when released. Doesn't make sense, I suppose, but it gave me a bad initial impression of the phone, which has persisted. And I can't even go by the T-mobile store and play with the phone to dispell my bad impression, cos it can only be bought online.
An Android phone for you?
Htc Desire or Htc Legend....I would prefer the legend for a lady..my girlfriend's got it ...I tried them both...they are fantastic, I have Hero so! we are very HAPPY...you are in the right way..Android is the future.
Which Android to get??
Htc Desire of course 100% you going to be fine!!
Legend doesn't meet my desired specs at all. 600mhz processor, 320x480 screen, EW! Desire looks spiffy, but from reading the specs, I don't think it'll work on T-mobile US, will it?
I'm leaning toward the nexus one. Roomie is getting the AT&T version, and I'm going to get to play with it while rooting&romming it for her, so that'll give me a chance to decide if the nexus one will work for me or not.
On the super nice side, I've got about $350 worth of unexpected overtime coming up (someone going out of town on short notice) so my budget changes, and I can afford to spend about $850 now! If I go with the nexus one, I'll probably get it from colorware.

Yeah, that's what I thought. So the desire is out of the running.
All-Are there any especially awesome phones set to come out in the next few months? I just don't want to buy the nexus one and then 6 weeks from now see the 'Nexus one with a physical keyboard!' released.
you should go with the HD 2. I just read that there is a ROM so it can run 2.1 with sense. but look it up in case I read wrong or something. I'm sure you would double check anyway
Yeah, I'm in the same boat, kinda thinking about ditching tmo and going for the evo4g

The thought crossed my mind, but I'm on a family plan and switching companies would cost me too much.
Hi,
I am new to this forum.
I have joined because I have many questions to ask haha.
I'm currently looking to buy a new cellphone.
Right now I am looking at the HTC Hero or the Moto Backflip, but I am also open to suggestions.
What I'm looking for is a solid phone that would last me a good 2-3 years, with a touchscreen and wifi are musts.
I have heard that Android is probably the best OS out there, so i would highly prefer it.
A qwerty keyboard would be nice since i like to use MSN on it. However, it's not a must have.
What i usually do on the phone is just browsing some web pages, youtube, msn, and facebook using wifi.
I do not want a data plan that is why I am looking to buy the phone unlocked on ebay.
My maximum budget is 400 dollars.
Now my question is,
I heard that the hero is a great cellphone, and I am willing to pay an extra 100$ over the backflip's price to get it if it is indeed a great phone.
Would you guys suggest me get the hero? or to get the backflip that has a qwerty keyboard? I have heard that the backflip will have android 2.1 on it, is the update out already??
Or if you guys can suggest another good phone that would be great too!
The price on ebay:
$400 for hero
$300 for Backflip
Please give me some suggestions!
I have read in another thread someone said the Hero is outdated already???
Hasn't it only been out for about half a year only?
If it is outdated, what phone should I go for that is within my price range??
thanks
Hero 100%. Better design, HTC, support, not crippled, gorgeous looking, the list goes on. The backflip has no support from here, and personally I think it's basically the GSM version of the devour. Ugly, boring, no support, and you never see em'
Please get neither if you are willing to spend 400. Both phones are a bit outdated and will have a hard time holding up 2-3 years. Get a nexus one or a Droid (milestone ) for that price

Thanks for your opinion!
I found that the milestone might be a good option since it's within my price range and has a physicial keyboard.
The $600 nexus ones on ebay are a bit beyond what I am willing to spend haha.
So will the Motorola Milestone be the best choice if I have $400?
How's the processor??
Motorola Milestone is an ok choice, but you should try it out first. I would rather stay with HTC devices.
What HTC device would you recommend me to get then ?
Hey, so I'm looking into buying a new phone and the now I'm down to the hero and the backflip. I have never had an android phone before so the phone I decide on can't be too complicated. I'm 14 and I text a lot so the phone has to be able to type easily and fast. Please give me advice if you have experience with one or both of these phones.
Is there any other advices?
I am buying my new handset soon!
+1 for the n1 as already suggested above. You can also look at the HTC Aria or Samsung Captivate.
Unfortunately the Nexus one and the other ones you suggested are somewhat beyond my price range $400 is really my maximum. Unless I can get a used one somewhere ...
As it is one of your original options, I will give my opinion on it : The hTC Hero
Had one of these for a while (by my standards) for now, and its a pretty solid device. Okay, it isn't the fastest processor, and it has likely recieved its last official rom, but i love it
Have just got Éclair running on it, and there are noticeable differences since android 1.5, although no live wallpapers (not that i see this as much of a loss, as I don't tend to just sit and stare at my home screen, i try to use the phone)
There are plenty of apps for it, plenty of custom roms, and a sizeable (albeit not the biggest) user base on xda.
The build quality is pretty decent - it has withstanded my daughter standing, jumping, chewing, and dribbling all over it, so it has passed that test for me.
In my opinion, the downside is the camera - there is no flash. But even then, it is not the worst camera I have had on a phone.
Hope that helps
If you are on ATT and you have $400 you should go with the HTC Aria you can get it off contract for $350. Even though its only a mid level phone it is a much better and newer phone then the Hero and the Backflip.

you can find a nexus one around here for around $400..and you can buy the unlocked/off-contract HTC Aria and Samsung Captivate for $350 each.
I've narrowed it down to two phones that are within my budget,
The HTC Hero which I was planning to get for 160 pounds (refurbished) from the three store and getting them to unlock it and;
The Acer Liquid which I can get for 211 pounds from TotalPda.
Specs wise, I really like the liquid. In fact, the only thing that's stopping me from getting it is the fact that it's an Acer product and I'm worried about it breaking or dying after a few months. I require a phone that will last a while (atleast six months, i guess). If possible i'd like to hear from some of you folks who've had the phone for a while, and what your opinion is of it. I want to pick a phone up while I'm still in the UK as these same phones would be much more expensive back home. Another reason why I require a phone that will probably last a while, as sending it back is not going to be an option.
I'm coming from a 'dumb' phone and when I think about it, i probably don't really require a smartphone. But I love gadgets, and android seems amazing. Most I forsee myself using the phone for is making calls, sending texts, light browsing (no data plan, so just wifi) and reading comics if that's possible.
So what do you guys reckon, now that the Liquid's been out for a while would you recommend it? Is it worth the extra dough? Is it going to turn into a paper weight with a single drop (as I've been hearing)? Should I just take the safe route and go for the Hero?
Welcome to forums
As for personal experience I would choose an HTC device
And continuing the trend orb3000 started.. I'd recommend the HTC Desire out of personal experience.. Just because it is the best Android device to date.. at least in Europe Or you can wait till October or so till the Desire HD comes out.. though dont mark my word there.. as it is only a rumour as to when it is coming out..
HTC Desire is about twice as expensive as his current budget.
It is indeed but i think it is a very good phone to keep for a long period as he wants.. but if you think that his budget is close to the prices he mentioned then yes.. i suppose it is a no-go for him :/
anyway.. if you really want a good phone to keep for at least 2 years, the HTC Desire is a very solid choice in my opinion
Or you can check out the HTC Wildfire.. which costs far less than the Desire and it is pretty good despite the inferior CPU..

Get the Hero, 160 is a good deal from store. My android life also started with Hero
Dont know how much they cost you to unlock it, but u can purchase an unlock code from ebay for about 7 quid
Hello XDA
Im Mac
My dog's name is Mikey
I'm new to the whole android scene , and i was interesting in purchasing a phone.
At the moment i have the choice between
- Motorola Milestone / Brand New
- Htc Hero - T-Mobile G2 Touch / Used 3 Months
- T-Mobile G1 / Used 1 Month
I was wondering , which phone do you guys think will be the best one for me, knowing i will be fooling around with them (rooting and etc)
I like the physical keyboard and having a fast phone. But if the hero is the best out of all three then i can get used to it.
What are there pro's and con's in your eyes.
Help me out abit.
Thanks alot XDA people
Well first of all. The Hero and Milestone both have a 5.0 MP camera. The Milestone has a better processor then the Hero which will make a difference after you root the phone. The HTC Dream isn't even worth mentioning in my opinion. Both its RAM and processor are very low, making it slow out of the box. To be 100% honest, I wouldn't go with any of these choices in phones.

Well
They are the 3 that are in my price range at the moment.
I can only spend 160 on a phone, so i gotta squeeze every tiny dollar i can into performance on a phone
I gotta be honest man, the 2.0+ updates to android have added a lot of wonderful things, and I'm not sure how well they would run if you root and rom'd them, and if you stuck with the stock firmware, a lot of great things about android won't be available to you....and that is frustrating as hell IMO.
My vote would be the Hero, but I always tell people if you are gonna go android, spend the money for a good, solid, FAST phone, because it can make or break the experience.
Thanks Alot
Im gonna go check them out one by one today.
Im really gunna look for the best performance once rooted.
Dude if you have $160 to spend then wait a bit and save up to $200 total then get a nice new GOOD phone. Or find one on craigslist or something... if you want to have a good experience you want something with good hardware, as in a 1ghz processor, 512mb ram, etc.. I got my phone that has those specs, a Samsung Mesmerize, for $200 with a 2 year contract. Something like that is your best bet, save up the money for it and you will not be disappointed.
Sent from my CM7 SCH-i500
I already have a contract.
I'm using my sim card to insert into another phone
If you go to radioshack, they have the HTC duplicate of the sprints EVO 4G for $30. If I were you, I would get that phone hands down. Also, AT&T are coming out with their own 3D phone here soon to combat with the EVO 3D. Probably could wait for that even.
I like the option ' My Dog '
