Anyone else here not have any issues? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I'm seeing nothing but complaint topics, but my G2x is perfect. I've actually had two G2x's since launch and both were perfect. No rebooting, no freezing, no sluggishness, very minimal screen bleeding etc.

I dont have any issues people are talking about here. Here's a list:
Screen bleeding: none
Rebooting: only once
Battery: yeah a bit... but not BAD like some describe
BlueTooth: Doesn't like my Ford SYNC and one other user has reported same
Touch Problems: none, works like a champ
Data / WiFi issues: No not really, seems to be ok

Not having any issues. My biggest issue is battery life. Everyone wants to play with my phone so the battery dies! Lol

Not me, had for 9 days and I love this. Had a n1, hd2, and vibrant still, and this blows them away...

Nope to be honest blast my other phones away. MT3G, MT4G, Nexus 1, n Nexus S. Its amazing with
No screen bleeds.
Battery running optimally - Pulled out bloatware and other battery consuming apps. PS read - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054420
Graphics are great
Speeds are good.
Reception is good too.
ave of 5.1mb down 2mb up
Runs like a champ.

best so far
Nope this is the android phone i have had so far... g1>mytouch>n1>g2>nS>g2x...
Battery life last 1 day as with any other smart phone. Bleedling backlight hard to notice... I probably would have never noticed until everyone started complaning.

Some issues with the 4G dying after Wifi, so I just killed Wifi altogether (Tmo 4G is pretty much just as fast anyhow) and haven't had an issue. Battery life is about on par with what is expected (around 24 hours), Gingerbread should help out there.
All the problems seem fixable via software (sans the bleeding. Of which I have very little)

for those of you that claim to not have any screen bleed. please prove with name in the picture. thanks.

I have minimal screen bleed but to be honest I usually dont spend time in my closet with a black screen and brightness all the way up so I don't notice it at all. As for the other issues I have not had any myself.

My first G2x had random reboots, screen bleed and eventually the screen starting flickering on and off constantly.
I promptly exchanged it for a new G2x and since then I haven't had a single problem. Not even 1 reboot!
Thing is lighting fast. Chews through HD video, awesome build quality and I really enjoy the crystal clear display. All in all, a great phone.
As far as the battery drain goes, I'm noticing that the cell standby is eating up tons of battery but I imagine that is a software issue that will be fixed once CM7 comes out.
Very happy with the phone! I'm coming from a Mytouch Slide.

Everything is great on mine. The only complaint I have is the cell reception and I think the update will solve that. Its not a hardware issue.

Coming from G2X-my impressions of the Sensation 4g

I figure there's some folks on the fence about whether they should get rid of their g2x for the Sensation, or some who have to make the choice between the two.
I owned the G2X from launch day until this week. I've had the Sensation for 24 hours.
I have to admit up front I'm biased in terms of design- I prefer the look and feel of the Sensation over the G2X, no matter the performance of the two.
Initial impressions:
-Look and feel-To me, the Sensation wins this hands down, which is really saying something, because the G2X felt great in hand also. But the shape and design of the HTC is something I dig a bit more than the iphonish slab.
You may prefer the g2x as this is simply preference.
-Screen: call it a slight HTC advantage. The sensation has a higher resolution, which is obvious immediately, and has a slightly bigger screen, but lacks some of the eye popping color of the G2X.
-Speed: The G2X is a bit snappier, but I have yet to miss that extra snap because the rest of the experience is so good. Don't misunderstand, the HTC is also plenty fast, but I have been able to slow it down on occasion.
-call quality/sound quality: about the same in terms of calls, but the sounds (ringers and notifications, speaker phone) are all lower on the sensation, unless I'm missing a setting)
-htc sense/almost vanilla g2x: I prefer vanilla, but htc sense has surprised me..it's laid out really well. In the end, I rooted the g2x, and I'll root the sensation, so I'm not too concerned. If you're not the rooting type, the G2X is for you (though it's so easy to root the hell out of you might as well dive in)
-Battery life: This is the biggie for me. I immediately noticed how much better the HTC is compared to the g2x. Last night, I got 7 hours from the Sensation, and the screen was on full brightness (screen on time-5 hours, 55 minutes), wifi and wifi calling were on and so was facebook, gmail and email syncing. I was trying out everything for those 7 hours, too. Today, having unplugged at 5am, I'm now at 65% 11.5 hours later. This is with minimal use for 8 hours, and moderate to heavy use for the past 2 or so. The G2X either has the worst battery, or the worst battery drivers, and either way, I don't care anymore. I would lose 8% per hour while it sat in my pocket with the screen off. The Sensation lost about 1.5% per hour while the screen's off, today anyway.
Now, if both phones lose the same amount when in use heavily, the Sensation still wins by a wide margin as the idling % makes up for it. Simply put: it saves the juice when you're not using it.
-Bugs: G2x has seemingly 50 crippling bugs, but the most glaring is obviously the battery issues. There are reboots, freezes, factory resets and batteries that just turn off when charging because they're so hot. I'm talking hot to the touch. The LG dbag I spoke to in the tmobile store was awfully smug about these issues, another reason I was looking to jump ship.
Also wifi and data issues were pretty prevalent until I flashed a rom.
The HTC: pending, but nothing as dumbfounding as the mess I dealt with, with the LG. I tried the death grip and checked my screen for dust, and all the popular complaints, but haven't noticed anything yet.
Verdict: The Sensation feels like a Nexus One in hand, has a small led notification, gets much better battery life so far, and just feels more polished, inside and out. The LG is a hot rod with no restrictions, but horrible gas mileage and a slight pinging sound in the engine. If the Sensation were rooted right now, this would make the call way too easy-Sensation hands down. Since it's not currently, I say go with the Sensation if you don't own either one yet. If you own the G2X, I might wait for the update and see how it responds. If you're like me, a Nexus One freak, and you don't mind waiting for HTC to unlock the bootloader (or one of the brilliant minds here!), then the Sensation wins.
Hope this overview helps some people.
I honestly don't get the battery issues that people are having with the G2x. The rest of the issues.. most certainly. I am on my third due to the rest of the issues, but battery... yeah, no. It lasted 17.5 hours yesterday with 3 hours 45 min of actual screen on time + a few calls. And that was with WiFi on continuously but only having connection for 8 of those hours. I have a hard time finding issue with that. There IS a bug in the wifi calling which will eat your battery, but a simple check with "wheres my droid power" will show you that and let you kill the process.
All three of my phones have had issues (the second just loved to reboot randomly and repeatedly and once even factory reset itself) but battery has never even been close to being an issue.
I DO run Juice defender (the free version). If thats of importance. I am currently at 94% at 4 hours 39min since unplugged. GPS and WIFI on, no wifi signal.
Edit cause I had typos! lol.
i just returned my g2x from lots of issues from batt. to wifi calling issues, then to finalize it suck on LG logo, so i returned it and got a mytouch 4g whic right off the get go it aint no dual core but the 2nd gen snap dragon is good and not loosing bars every minute went from 1-3,4 all the time (g2x) so have to love htc phones
i will see if how this phone treats me maybe jump in there next wk and get the sensation..
I loved my MT4G too. I REALLY wish I had skipped the G2x. I have such fingers crossed for the Sensation.
You feel your g2x was snappier etc.
WELLLL WAIT till the bootloader unlocks and the devs start on this beast. faster roms and overcloks your looking at a sensation laptop or tablet not a phone. looool

Same here, my MT4G ran smooth, great signal strength, wifi, battery life was good...etc. This nightmare I dropped the MT4G to get is making life miserable. I'm on my 3rd G2x and all the same problems with each, just in differing degrees. I've been trying to decide if I should hold out and hope for the best or call up Tmo and make them take this crap back and give me a Sensation.

And in reality, real clocking since the Sensation is actually underclocked (the chip is actually a 1.5 GHz chip) I would guess to save battery life?

Wow, I did not know that. Pimp my cpu is just begging to be used in my app tray.
I am totally biased towards HTC I have loved everyone of their android devices!!! The g2x simply sucks period! the screen was nice and that's about it! I am debating whether or not to sell my g2x or just keep it in the top drawer dungeon with my other forgotten cell phones. After 24 hours of playing with my sensation I absolutely love it. I am using adw launcher and for the most part htc sense isn't getting in my way. I love the lockscreen and the ability to instantly start my favorite 4 apps without technically unlocking the phone. I know that after my first 24hrs with my g2x I had already popped my sim card back in my mt4g...... so if you are on the fence about which to purchase GET A SENSATION!!!!
Well I've played with the sensation. I liked it. Was noticeably slower.
But felt great.
I'll be waiting for Nov to mar when the quad core chips release.
I just didn't find it justifiable to switch.
But it is a nice phone.
So is my g2x.
No problems.
Love the the gaming on the g2x

Nice review, thanks. I agree with almost everything you stated. I had the G2X and had to send it back. Terrible battery and the Bluetooth would never connect after the initial pairing.
This is my 1st HTC phone and I really like it. The battery is much better than the G2X. I was concerned about not liking Sense, however, I have been pleasantly surprised. IMO, this is a much better quality/build of a phone than the G2X. It will be even better once it's rooted.
I picked up a Sensation today and it is sitting next to my G2x. So far I have observed the following:
Sensation--Device got very hot immediately after powering it on. It has continued to stay at 101 to 111 degrees if used at all. If it idles it only drops to 96 degrees.
Touchscreen becomes unresponsive at times and a noticeable lag appears while trying to load apps. After charging to full capacity it has dropped 17% in 15 minutes of very limited use. The screen is very nice and it is a very attractive phone. I am not a fan of Sense (although this version is much better than the previous ones) Speaker phone volume is relatively weak (in my opinion) The build is great, although I have found a sort of dent in the upper area of the battery cover. The GPS is one of the best I have ever tried. All in all a very very good phone. The heating issues which started immediately and the touchscreen's lack of responsiveness make it hard for me to consider keeping this phone. I could probably just send it back and get a replacement but I do not want to get on that merry go round again. Unless the over heating ceases or gets better and the touch screen responds on all areas of the screen, it will go back and I will be staying with the G2X. Make no mistake though the Sensation is a GREAT phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How I got the G2X to work

With all the complaining about this phone flooding the forums, I thought I would post something positive that I found improves the phone. When I purchased this phone I knew nothing about it other then it had a nvidia dual core...I had to have it. 2 hours later while in the market it froze. Removed battery and never turned on again. So back to store to get another. :-( Needless to say phone has been fine since. However I had too had some of the ever popular issues. Decided to root it using one click root and installed nvflash. Backed up stock rom and flashed the gingerbread leaked rom. No more problems. I had a problem with the phone lagging bad while trying to type. Reinstalled Rom and ok now. I use antutu CPU master. I have setup the profiles to my like. I basically turned it down to 608mhz Max and while it is charging it is normal. Phone is not as snappy, but is still fast enough for normal use. This gave me a instant battery gain. Before I couldn't go more then 4 hours without a charger (pretty lame) now I have gone 12 hours of what I consider normal use. So...there is nothing more to complain about other then LG and Google need to get there sh__ together and give us some updates. Pretty bad when you have to do all this to get this phone to work.
Sick of heari.g about the sensation... i am thinking that before the g2x came out everyone thought it was going to solve the world. I think some people just need excuses to have the latest and greatest phones. Come on people the grass isn't always greener.

Not to rain on your parade, but I'd hardly call having to run a leaked buggy rom and then underclock your processor by about 40% just to get it to work properly positive news. That's just more information that confirms how substantial the current problems are. To underclock your phone almost 40% pretty much defeats the purpose of having a dual core phone. If you're going to do that you might as well have gotten a G2 or Nexus S or something. Also to have done all that and have still only gotten 12 hours of battery life isn't really that impressive. I'm not trying to be controversial, I'm just offering a bit of perspective. To lose almost half of your processing power just to match the battery life that other phones (ex. Sensation) can get out of the box using the full processor is definitely not a positive. Quite frankly I find that to be quite the opposite...meaning it's very negative. The grass may not always be greener on the other side, but at least for me, in my opinion...after having tried both sides of the grass..it's definitely greener. While that may change in the future after the cure-all update (the one everyone is praying actually fixes the phone), as of right now the reality of the situation is the G2X needs fixing before its ready for prime time. Until then it's just merely a phone with potential.

so very eloquently put...well I'll play along...then I guess that makes the G2X schizophrenic then huh? lol Nah but seriously though I'm not trying to hijack his thread into a "phone a is better than phone b" thread. My thing was I'm just pointing out that his "positive news", really isn't a positive at all..and quite frankly I find it to be an indictment of the device more than anything. So though his intent may have been positive news, it really delivered negative news.
+1.

There are no greatest and latest fone. Sensation will have its own problems. My g2x with EB1.04 GB, together with setcpu runs flawless, not a single problem. Thanks to the EB developer(s).
I unplug my phone at 8am and throw it on the charger at midnight. I use it pretty heavily throughout the day. I'm always sending corporate exchange emails, personal emails, SMS, twitter news links, and facebook.. along with wordfeud and kingdoms live a few times a day plus whatever game I find throughout the day.
Pretty happy with battery life. I'm running CM7 and stock kernel. Custom Kernels OC/UV typically have much better battery life. I also don't use SetCPU or anything special. Just stock CM7.
I've only had the G2X for a few days, but so far I've had no problems whatsoever. I checked for the backlight bleeding and luckily my phone doesn't have that issue. Everything else is working great and the phone is amazingly fast. If it helps the date on the box is 5/09/11

If you download SetCPU or something else that can underclock with profiles, set it so it underclocks to the minimum when the screen is off. Your battery life will go through the roof.
I can go an entire day without a charge.
Something is wrong if you're only getting 4 hours at stock clocks.
Try using the battery calibration app, and then if you can swing the ~$3, get JuiceDefender.

You know your right. I am highly pissed with T-Mobile for not doing a _____ thing about this pos. It is ashame, because I swapped the galaxy s for this one. I have had many android phones and this is by far the worse case I've had. Really just trying to be patient and hope the update will solve issues. I wanted to post something that would possibly help someone else till this infamous update is released. In the phones defense, it is running two 1 gig cores, pretty impressive. There is no battery technology that would allow the capacity needed for this phone and maintain the slim form factor. I can understand that to a degree. I have seen the big battery for this phone and plan on purchasing it. I actually will like the fact that I'll have something to hold on too. My other point was "the latest and greatest phone" is not always the solution. On another note, T-Mobile has absolutely the worse customer service! Very displeased that I am going to be supporting them for 1yr and 11 months yet!

Severe overheating?

Hey guys,
This last week has been absolutely brutal in the northeast us. We've had high 90s pretty much everyday. [Especially in the car] my g2x has been suffering from "random reboots" running fauxs 1.2.8 and kernel 0.3.2. It was a new phenomenon, I thought it was the DS kernel I had rather than CM7, but all that did was affect battery life.
I finally was using my device when it decided to "turn off" and the screen just kept turning off ( less and less time being on, fractions of seconds.) Then it just stays off and the battery temp reads 100+° at turn offs.
It requires a battery pull to turn back on ( and I guess turn off) but the heat doesn't seem to come from the battery, but behind the camera, im thinking processor.
Could it be from the OC/UV kernel. I had on? It's on standard now.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
OC'ing can easily overheat/fry the processor (hence why there's always large warnings around it), especially if the kernel hits a race condition or similar.
The phones are passively cooled. and the radios in the phone heat up the phone when used heavily. I have not had anyphone that didnt get extrememly hot while it is using the radio when its in above 80 degrees ambient temperature and overclocking would just add to this. luckily most have a feature ot turn off the phone at a certain temp to protect the hardware. But I dont think this is a specific g2x problme my old droid does the same thing.
I took mine to a pool in Vegas. It was probably about 90 degrees. I had it under my lounge chair shaded listening to music. It had a heat stroke after about an hour.
I understand why/how overheating can be caused by oc but honestly if its not running at stock (or benchmarking) I have it set to 800mhz by default- its still fast as hell. It hasn't overheated in the last few days, but the problem was that even if I don't use it, it'll overheat.
I use juice defender to keep my radio off when the screens off, so I can't even lay blame to that.
I haven't really dove into undervolting, but in theory wouldn't lower voltage equate to less residual heating?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
mine does this running stock. Mostly when I have the charger plugged in and am still doing something. It will be taking a charge but the batery level will still slowly fall, once it gets below a certain point it gets really hot behind the camera and the screen starts locking and unlocking. faster and faster until you finally have to pull the battery and let it cool down a while.
YES!!!! I have 2 G2x that do this, and a guy at work has one. All stock phones, and can be doing NOTHING - gets hot near the camera lens, and LOCKS!!!! Have to pull the battery. I pull the battery for 1 second, re-install, and G2x works fine. I know of 3 G2x, and all do this. I can't believe I don't see more of this on this forum. T-Mobile has a "discussion number" on this: 265747. LG claims ignorance. I'd love to know how to "fix" this. I'd also like to know if GB fixes this.
The occasional re-boots are live-able - this lock up is NOT.

I can verify this is an issue with my phone as well! It was happening all the damn time in both stock Froyo and EaglesBlood Froyo, but as soon as I went to CyanogenMod 7 RC1, I haven't had it happen once.
And to those of you who haven't had this happen, it's like the Sleep of Death + your phone gets REALLY hot by the camera lens and it keeps draining the battery and putting out TONS of heat until you do a battery pull. It brought my battery from 100% to 25% in like 30 minutes of doing this.
But CM7 seemed to solve the issue. No more SOD+heat!
This problem has been driving me absolutely insane. My wife and I both got g2x's at the dame time (new from tmobile), and hers rarely does this, while mine does it continually. I was wondering if it was related to the case we have - but we both have the same case - the speck one sold at tmobile.
My wife and I both have the little rubber buggy baby bumper condom case thing that does cover the back - that would reduce heat dissipation. I often carry mine in a belt case that came with the phone from CostCo - she almost never uses that case.

Really disliking this phone...

I was so bullish on this phone when I got it. I convinced my whole family and some friends that THIS was the phone to buy. I did a jump upgrade from my note 5 to this one.
I really don't like it...
There's just so many things... But it really comes down to battery and performance.
Even though it has the same size battery as the note 5, it seems to get a lot less use time or even sleep time. I finally... Got my promo battery (stole my brothers, even though I did mine first, it still says awaiting ship) so hopefully it won't be as much of an issue but it just dies too fast. The standby time is really killing me though. With the note, when it was in my pocket not being used it would hardly drop at all, this drops noticeably.
Every so often, doesn't happen all the time but when it does.... Happened last night when I was on a job. The phone (even when sitting in my pocket doing nothing) gets piping hot and murders the battery before my eyes. I tried clearing recent apps, restarting the phone... Nothing helped. Luckily I had an external battery pack on me. Problem seemed to fix itself after a few hours.
Performance... The stuttering and lag here and there... Whatever, I can deal with that. But when the performance affect the bluetooth playback.... I mean when the phone can be right next to the headset but it will still cut in and out because the phone is getting overworked.... Not cool.
Second screen is practically useless. One of the main points is to get notifications out of your way... Messages from most chat clients still want to do a heads up notification on the main screen and there doesn't seem to be a way to move them to the second screen... To me, this was a big sell of the phone.. Maybe an update? Idk.. Its already been a few months and crickets.
On that note, why the hell can't I customize the info on the second screen?? I want battery percentage. How about instead of a effing cloud it said the temperature?? Wtvr.. That's never gonna happen.
That top left light bleed is ridiculous.
Screen just isn't nearly as bright as the note 5.. I guess I can't really blame them because samsung just has the best screens.. But it seems to lose alot of light when you aren't looking at the screen dead on.
What samsung did with the dpi on the note 5 is what everyone should have done a long time ago with big phones. Helps with productivity. Whenever I see a note 5...i hate the big everything on this phone...
Even though I still have my note 5 (have to do the jump switch in the store) I'm out of my buyers remorse for the v10, so I'd have to keep both of I wanted the note 5.. I can waste one of my jumps to go back to it... But I'm not gonna do that.
Look, these are obviously first world problems but still.. Why do we have these problems on a supposedly high end phone. Most of this is software that they can fix if they felt like it....

Oh, and I hate that I need to wait a second for the phone to want to turn on when I take it out of my pocket. First the second screeched to turn on then I can turn it on.... Super annoying..
I can relate to a few of these things coming from a note 4..the battery life was pretty stellar on the note 4 plus I had an extra battery which was nice.
I like the second screen mainly for calendar events.. I like having a reminder of what I have coming up for the day.
I don't feel that this is a huge upgrade from my note 4 but the build quality is nicer.
I'm hoping marshmallow will improve the battery some more..
Overall I'm okay with the phone, feels a bit big at time but overall I'm okay with it
And yeah, wish all notifications would show up on the second a even, I have that problem too.

If the phone is running hot in standby, something's wrong. If the issue persists after factory resetting the phone, it's probably defective and should be replaced under warranty.
Battery wise ... my V10's standby time has improved a lot now that the battery has gone through charge/recharge cycles and got calibrated. I take it off the charger at 7:30 AM, stream music for 20 min while driving, send a few texts and emails during the day, read a few articles (so ... light use) and by 5 PM I still have 85% battery left. This is in a huge building with Verizon repeaters on the roof.
As far as piping hot battery drain, something is causing that. It's not normal.
Lag, my note 5 lags just as much as this phone. Not much.
Have you done a full factory reset yet?

hmm.. i was thinking about a warranty replacement.. It's just so much work to transfer anything if it wont even help. Wanted to see if anyone else is having these issues. I guess I'll exchange it then..
You could try and monitor your apps using gsam battery or else. Use factory reset as your last resort, if your V10 is still acting funny, return it to get a new one.
That being said, the Snapdragon 808 isn't without flaws, it easily warms up (at least some of the 808 out there) on light use, others can overheat (mine did on my G4). It's not as wide spread as the 810 but if you visit any given G4 forums on Xda or elsewhere, there will be complaints about that.
Last but not least, battery life was going to be one, if not the main weakness of this phone, same battery in the G4 (same capacity since the G2...) and the G4 has a smaller display and just one screen, and battery life was never its strong suit, so moving on go the V10... Well, there's that.

Those with the battery drain issue has has a huge success rate by the factory reset. I had it too, and factory reset fixed it. I even used the LG backup for some things, messages and call logs. Not settings and definitely not apps. I let the apps download from the store on their own.
Lag often happens during fast battery discharge. Something is using a lot of power and that will create lag.
My opinions are neutral, as I have had both, and enjoyed both phones. I have had a overall better experience with the V10 though. But, the V10 does have some flaws that are hopefully fixed with a software update soon.

It's amazing how some rogue apps can screw with battery life. I get mostly great battery life....I have over 700 downloaded and system apps and use greenify and sdmaid to tame most of them.
One day I installed a bunch of games and Snapchat beta to test out. My battery life took a dump. I couldn't figure out which one it was, so I uninstalled all of those from that day. Now...back to normal

Why would you trade your note for a V10? No offense but the Note is better unless you absolutely need an SD card and a removable battery.

Tbh sometimes I consider going to the note. I love the battery and the sd card slot but sometimes this phone has some weird lag.

The note had its fair share of issues too. Its just a matter of finding what issues you want or may need to deal with.
In my case, the note couldn't handle opening office documents and running outlook without completely freezing up.

I think your problems are abnormal OP. No probs with battery life and getting at least 2 more hours of SoT than my Note 5. Also the heat and battery drain are definitely not normal.
If the note 5 gets like 4.5 hrs of on screen time could you tell me how you're getting at least two more hours?

I freeze or remove all apps that are draining battery and useless and use Greenify to sleep the phone and save wear and tear on the power button. I also get 6h SoT with Bluetooth on all the time.

Can I see what your app usage is?
Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk
My standby seems to be good. Charge it to 100%, if I let it sleep it's still at 100% or 99-98% an hour or two later. Only heating/drain I've had recently with it was when I tried setting up a outlook.com email using the exchange server. Killed and disable that, set it up thru imap.
Haven't noticed any major lag or stuttering, then again I close and greenify regularly. Some apps once in a while I need to refresh when it pops up a connection issue, could be the app or my network.
I've only tried bluetooth with my clock radio and anker speaker, both good.
Second screen light bleed seems to fall into two camps, a little bit which is only noticeable in a dark room, or very noticeable. I'm in the little bit camp. LG should have done a better job there. I never notice the bleed when the main screen is on, and when the main screen off I have the second screen off because it is so dim it is pointless. Only time I notice it now is during a restart. Some customization optimization options for the second screen would be good. Is widget support even possible on the second screen? Considering I'm on Verizon, probably will never see any good updates like that.
Coming from a BlackBerry I'm enjoying the V10 and the amount of customization I can do. Plus I can get some good pics of my daughter. Here's to hoping for some software tweaks from LG......

Other than the glaring camera distortion issue, how is this phone?

I've been reading up on the camera distortion issue and I'm quite disappointed in Sony's attitude towards it but despite that, the device seems great and I ended up ordering one off eBay (the dual SIM model).
What's everyone's views on this phone knowing the camera has issues? Does it make you want to return your phone or are you keeping it?

At first I really thought of returning it because the distortion issue, but it is pretty minor for me at least (compared to what other people have, the distortion in my phone isn't that bad). But forgetting this thing, I really like the phone. 6 weeks with it already, and it's performing damn good. The battery life is very good (7 hours SOT usually, and with my usage I only charge it once every two days), the performance is unbeatable, with a bit of tweaks the camera can shine, nothing bad to say about the build quality at all, and the most important thing for me, the sound output, is incredible. Also the display is very colorful, you can see no pixel on it, and the dark levels are very good for a non-amoled display. Didn't had any problems with wifi droppings in this weeks, and the LTE speed and stability is perfect. As cons I would say the lack of wireless charging and the bezels could have been smaller. But those issues are in no way more relevant than the pros. I am happy with my phone and I would recommend it.

That's pretty much exactly what my thoughts on this phone are.
I highly recommend this phone. I just upgraded from an Xperia Z5 which was my very first Xperia phone, the second being my XZ Premium. I've had for almost exactly 2 weeks and I'm REALLY impressed by this thing.
I listen to music a lot on my phone using Bluetooth headphones, and the sound quality is phenomenal. The equalizer really kicks ass, it's way better than pretty much all of the equalizer apps I've tried. All of the equalizer apps I've used tend to lower the actual output volume way too much. With Sony's EQ enabled, your actual output volume won't be any lower than having the EQ disabled.
The overall performance is absolutely amazing. Responsiveness remains instantaneous no matter what I'm doing on the phone, or what's running in the background etc. It just WILL NOT SLOW DOWN!
The camera distortion is really a non issue to me. I believe it's just a software issue anyway. I take photos all the time on it and never noticed it until I saw it on this forum, then went and replicated it for myself. It's really no big deal at all for me personally.
Build quality is REALLY nice. This is a premium feeling phone to me. Only downside is that this phone will slide on any surface way too easily. If you have it on a perfectly flat smooth surface that has even a SLIGHT angle, this phone will slide down it. That does annoy me a bit, but I'll be getting a case for this phone anyway which will fix it. But I would 100% have still bought this phone even if I knew beforehand, it doesn't detract from actually using it.
Battery life is very good. If I charge it overnight from say 10-11pm and take it off charge at around 5-6am, I'll listen to about 45 mins to an hour of music or YouTube in the morning, browse in Chrome, reading and sending emails and also using SMS / Hangouts / FB messenger periodically throughout the day. After another hour of music or YouTube come around 5pm, it's sitting at around 65-70% battery. All of this is with BT left turned on, connected to WiFi most of the day, mobile data always on, location always on, brightness around 50%.
I'd easily recommend this phone. Bloody fantastic.

Agree 100%. I think the camera issue is phone dependant... meaning that mine does not appear to be as bad as some. Still hope that for those who are having issues that Sony comes out with a fix.
I agree with all the sentiment posted here. It really is a great device, and I'd definitely recommend it. I am hopeful that we'll have a safe DRM unlock / root solution at some point, but as stock Androids go, this beats most.
I barely notice the camera issue. All my photos so far have turned out fine but they are mainly of people and landscapes. I have had the phone 2 weeks now and honestly couldn't be happier, I use it as both my personal and professional device. I usually get a good day from a charge with a good 6.5-7 hours of SOT a day with multiple emails sent, a few calls and a few apps constantly running. I actually like the smart charge feature too, I only charge my phone during sleep hours so there is no inconvenience for me about charge time. I do miss there being no cap avarice buttons but only because my previous phone (Note 4) had them and I did like the full screen being an actual screen! For what I use this phone for it excels at but we all use ours differently. What usage are you wanting for your ideal device??

Hi, could you tell me the tweaks fpr the camera please
I have been using this phone for about 2 months now and here's my Honest review.
The Android OREO fixed many things. the camera in OREO includes an option "correction for image distortion" so the only issue of this phone "camera distortion" is gone. there is also DRM fix available for this phone now. performance-wise many people said that the phone lags on some games but thats a totally different story. Asphalt 8 and all other gameloft games have stutter issues. the games that doesnt work smooth are probably due to optimization issues. this phone can run GTA SA on fully max graphics. antutu score is 180,000 which is awesome. the LPDDR4X ram is fast enough to hold and process all data without any drop in performance. we all know that the 4k display is running in 1080p and only enables 4k in apps that support it (like youtube and sony album).
there are a lot of good things about this phone. some people said that the speakers are very quite but they are forgetting the fact that both speakers are facing towards the user so in a noisy environment too the sound can be heard by the user easily and is nothing to worry about. the 3D Creator app is fun to play with. the camera can be even better if you know how to use it in manual mode so that depends on preferences of the user. as for the charging speed, it is quite brilliant actually. for example if you need some battery urgently then a 15 min charge would give you 30-35% battery and you will be good to go for about 6+ hours (SOT would be less, depending on usage). as for me, i ordered the spigen carbon painted case for this phone and now the phone looks even better. better grip better handling. the phone just amazes in almost every aspect. i have used s8, op5 and iphone 8 but there is something special about XZ premium. it just is perfect in every aspect that you can think of.
The 3230mah battery seems small for 5.46' 4K display but its running 1080p that too on 10nm battery efficient chipset makes up for it.
PS: im not a fanboy or anything like that im reviewing what i experienced. there are goods and bads about every phone and according to that logic this phone has too many goods and very very rare bads which arent even noticeable.
Regards.
-Saad khalid.
