galaxy s 2.2 root - impossible - General Questions and Answers

hi there. before i get moaned at .... im new here, ive searched and searched, and im still stuck!
soo got a galaxy s yesterday. not really used android before, so guess im a "noob". its running running 2.2.1, and have tried z4root (first time i tried it, it did a few steps then just closed, and now it usually just gets stuck on the first step). tried doing it via the recovery menu, but im using 3e, which isnt very good for the task so i hear. have also tried a few other ways but have always got stuck at some step. superoneclick is something i have yet to try, as net framework 4 is moaning it needs 1gb of space, and im stuck on a netbook with a 4gb ssd, but im convinced it will not work for me anyway.
all i want to do is install a custom rom! seems like such a painful process. some great looking roms and sites out there, but i have also come across some painfully hard to understand (worded badly) ones.
so all i want to know is, how can i flash a custom rom to my 2.2 galaxy s, with 3e recovery? and more importantly, if i need to root it how to do it, as it just aint working for me.
ps: sorry if theres any typos/lack of caps, etc, but this netbook has a very poor keyboard. i think it needs a good clean.
cheers

noob question

Hey guys, im sorry to start a thread. Ive looked everywhere for a solution but i cant find one. I rooted my phone yesterday and even managed to install some new roms. One of those rooms seems to have disabled my market completely. I was not happy with the recovery program i initially installed, so i unrooted back to 1.5 again. I did not think that my market would be disabled after the sapp.nbh, but it is. I want to re-root it, but i can not download a manager off the market. Is there anything I can do? or am i stuck with 1.5 forever. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
that definitely should not have happened
must have been a problem with the rom
I've been running rooted roms since last summer without any problems
What message is the market giving you when you try to open it up? Maybe there is something wrong with the sign in. One thing that you can try though is a different sappimg file to unroot it back to 1.5.
Hope this helps!

[Q] Please help me root my xperia x10 mini pro 2.1 update 1

Hey all, this is a great forum so ive decided its the best 1 to post about my issue too: ive got my phone locked, now ive paid for it to be unlocked and i think its only fair that i can be able to remove the software that comes with the phone from the phone carrier which i dont need: like uno trial, guitar hero trial etc...
So ive heard that i need to root my phone but i am totally unexperient at this as ive never done it before and never had an android phone before so please could someone give me a full step by step guide of what i need to do to root my xperia x10 mini pro android 2.1 update 1? its a great deal for me as not only it should help me remove useless apps that keep installing themselves once i restart the phone but it also helps me install apps on the SD card rather than on the limited 128mb phone internal memory.
Thanks very much in advance!
hey im sorry ive forgot to mention
im running windows xp pro sp3 all updates, if you need to know anything else please tell me what and ill specify it
No one willing to show me a complete guide for this? :\ all guides ive seen so far do not mention "basic steps" which i cant actually guess them if i havent done them before no? ive heard something about installing some drivers and adb but ive got no clue wth they mean with that, any help?
Thanks in Advance!
Every phone is different try going to Google or the fourms search typing in your phones make and model and the word root or how to to root "your phone" good luck
Sent from my hero running froyo with the XDA APP
thats what ive been doing but many ppl were complaining that they were not complete and did not explain what adb meant or what did they mean that u had to install the drivers, all ive seen was replies like "oh how are u trying to root your phone without knowing what a simple thing like adb means" and not helpfull crap like that...
Well thx anyways i supose im gonna keep looking :\

[Q] Bricked my Nexus S, help :(

OK so I followed a youtube video tutorial on rooting, and I think it's the boot.img that messed everything up. It would boot up before but it was stuck on the Google screen, the OS didn't load. So I found a GRH78 or something Nandroid backup and ran that, but the capacative buttons don't work, the screen isn't calibrated correctly and the phone radio isn't correct either. Then I remembered my Nexus S was the newer GT-I9023 GRI54 and I need a GRI54 NANDROID stock backup (which I can't seem to find!)
Guys, what do you suggest I do at this point? I can't revert to stock (I've been trying)
I just got this Nexus S and have been spending hours trying to restore firmwares, finding it online, but now I know I need the GRI54 Android 2.3.3 backup, and if anyone has that I'd be super happy
I really need help
you most likely need the 9023 method of rooting
see the stickied guides
I fixed it. I downloaded a GT-I9023 GRI45 firmware file off of somewhere here (<3 xda forums) it wasn't a nandroid backup, but I used the clockworkmod to install it and surprisingly, it booted up again. (of course, I had the crappy 2.1 installed before so maybe this acted as an 'update' and fixed all the problems, but anyways it works smooth now as it did before )
I knew I could figure it out.
Not to be an ass, but I think there's a lot of difference between bricking a phone and being unable to boot. You've never bricked your phone, since you could still switch ROMs by using the Recovery.
This is a misleading title. Bricking is when you just can't enter not even the bootloader/Recovery.
you are 100% right
unfortunately many people keep getting those 2 terms confused, and use it inappropriately
every body needs to chip in and help newbies learn the correct terminology.
thank you

Looks like I've managed to act and look like a fool...
I tried to root my Nexus S with Superboot, unaware that it was version-specific (I should have known that ). To make a long story short, I tried to root my phone with Superboot which is written for android 2.3.3, while I'm running 2.3.4.
The phone can get to fastboot/recovery, but won't boot. I googled to find how revert to a stock 2.3.3 or 2.3.4, but somehow did not find what I was looking for.
Phone was vanilla, I hadn't installed anything specific on it besides twitter, FB, etc.
From a powered-off phone, how would I manage to revert to a clean phone ?
Thanks for your help, people.

<EDIT:
All the solutions I've seen required CWM or similar, and a rooted phone. Since my problems started because I wanted to root my NS, I figured that I was out of luck for a while, and a non-working phone was out of question.
I went at my retailer and managed to get a new phone free of charge I *****-footed around the fact I was installing an unsupported (by the carrier) update/app, the clerk wasn't very familiar with the NS so it went well with them and they gave me a new phone

[q] does sgii skyrocket have unlocked bootloader??

Alright, well today I finally decided to make the switch from the Atrix to a Skyrocket. I heavily modded the atrix and I'm used to having absolutely no freedom with my phone, so I have to hack my way through everything. With a bit or trial and error, I succeded. Anyway, to avoid soft-bricking my phone in less than 12 hours, I want to know everything I need to do in order to flash ROMs, kernals, and all that other good stuff. So far, all I've done s root and flash CWM. Am I done?
Thanks. Oh and before I leave, has anyone tested out that 1.89ghz OC kernal?
Hello fellow atrix user. I to came from the atrix . But have had samsung galaxy then sgs2 now sgs2 skyrocket. You rooted and installed cwm so your done. You can flash roms and kernels with cwm totally different world.then that pita atrix. For now best bet is to stay on stock rooted. People were havong some problems with alien rom. I have used the oc kernel. Up to 1.83ghz and got over 4200 quadrant with that ( not that quadrant really matters) but my phone did heat up alot while over clocking, and anything over 1.83 i got instant shutdown so i flashed stock rooted back. And im happy with it. And with sammy odin is your friend if u run into problems keep this thread handy it has easy to use directions how to odin back to stock and how to use odin to flash the tar and fix a soft brick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348
Perfect! thats exactly what I needed... a heck of a lot easier to do too! And i've already done my research for the crash course I take it the TAR/ODIN stuff is the Skyrockets equivalent of RSD Lite? Looks easy (enough) to use and I have everything I need incase something bad happens. Anyway thanks again for the help! I guess I'll wait it out before flashing alien. Oh and one more question (yeah I do that a lot), whenever I flashed themes on my atrix, it NEVER worked, but I never found out what was wrong with it. Is there anything special I need to do aside from rooting/CWM? Or once I have that, I have the power to do ANYTHING posted in the dev section (that applies to my phone model and all that)?
Nothing special you need to do after root and recovery. But some themes cause problems on some roms as im sure you know. Some work some dont .

Blu dash 5.0

All right guys here it is, I am trying like hell to root my blu dash 5.0. I found one post that had me flash a rooted image. bricked it once, brought it back by flashing full stock image. did it properly the second, third, and fourth time. I got stuck in a bootloop on the blu logo. link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...-stock-rom-images-t2967900/page3#post65333894
I have tried all manner of one click root tools. Tried Framaroot. Nada. Is there anyone out there who has found the way? I am willing to try anything. I am even willing to attempt to find a way to root it myself, but I have never done anything like this on android so i'd need some basic worries/questions answered before I start messing around.
Also, are there any custom Roms for my phone? I've never used custom roms before, but this past summer I did install one on a family members hp tablet because it wasn't android. it was HPs crappy intent for an OS that had been discontinued and they asked if I could get the wifi to work. I ended up just installing a custom Rom because the OS wasn't great any way and I knew they'd prefer android due to familiarity. I decided I'd like to try custom roms on this phone, but i cant figure out if there are any.
Thanks for any help! And if this is in the wrong place, just says so and i'll move it.
forgot to add I can flash it to 4.2 with the stock image i have, but id like a rooted 4.4 or better, if possible.
I tried Kingroot from the pc, and lo and behold, it worked! So now I am trying to get app2sd to work ( my main reason for wanting root). Also if anybody has any custom roms they know of that are compatible, I'd appreciate it. I've looked, but most don't say if they'd work.
