[q] does sgii skyrocket have unlocked bootloader?? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Alright, well today I finally decided to make the switch from the Atrix to a Skyrocket. I heavily modded the atrix and I'm used to having absolutely no freedom with my phone, so I have to hack my way through everything. With a bit or trial and error, I succeded. Anyway, to avoid soft-bricking my phone in less than 12 hours, I want to know everything I need to do in order to flash ROMs, kernals, and all that other good stuff. So far, all I've done s root and flash CWM. Am I done?
Thanks. Oh and before I leave, has anyone tested out that 1.89ghz OC kernal?

Hello fellow atrix user. I to came from the atrix . But have had samsung galaxy then sgs2 now sgs2 skyrocket. You rooted and installed cwm so your done. You can flash roms and kernels with cwm totally different world.then that pita atrix. For now best bet is to stay on stock rooted. People were havong some problems with alien rom. I have used the oc kernel. Up to 1.83ghz and got over 4200 quadrant with that ( not that quadrant really matters) but my phone did heat up alot while over clocking, and anything over 1.83 i got instant shutdown so i flashed stock rooted back. And im happy with it. And with sammy odin is your friend if u run into problems keep this thread handy it has easy to use directions how to odin back to stock and how to use odin to flash the tar and fix a soft brick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348

Perfect! thats exactly what I needed... a heck of a lot easier to do too! And i've already done my research for the crash course I take it the TAR/ODIN stuff is the Skyrockets equivalent of RSD Lite? Looks easy (enough) to use and I have everything I need incase something bad happens. Anyway thanks again for the help! I guess I'll wait it out before flashing alien. Oh and one more question (yeah I do that a lot), whenever I flashed themes on my atrix, it NEVER worked, but I never found out what was wrong with it. Is there anything special I need to do aside from rooting/CWM? Or once I have that, I have the power to do ANYTHING posted in the dev section (that applies to my phone model and all that)?

Nothing special you need to do after root and recovery. But some themes cause problems on some roms as im sure you know. Some work some dont .

Hey guys, finally got the nerve to flash GB and will be doing so very, very soon. I have no past experience with Odin so I figured I would never flash GB lol, BUT DAMN, all these roms coming out, it's amazing! If i don't brick my phone somehow using Odin(knock on wood), I would like your opinion on which is the better GB rom at the moment, I know they've got their separate issues that i hope i can cope with. I just can't figure out which rom! HELP ME OUT! Thanks.
I don't know why people think ODIN is hard to use, it's very easy to flash with ODIN, imo.
anyway, the three ROMs in your title are flashed using CWM. so you'll have to use ODIN to get the GB bootloaders, and then ODIN drhonk's kernel to get CWM. Just follow the guides.
All three of those ROMs are great, and with the tweaks out right now, it's hard to go wrong with any of them. Obviously, if you use your phone to listen to a lot of music, you'll probably want Audiophile. Otherwise it's a toss up. you can always try each of them out for a few days and then pick which one you like best.
Oh yeah, thanks. I have the kg4 leak and kernel with voodoo. That's the only part im scared about, flashing those through odin as i am not sure about how to use odn, and have read numerous guides. I'm really looking forward to GB though!
Ftw is what i like
I am on and like ftw. Any of the three are awesome. Dont worry about odin, it is hard to bricK this phone. You will judt to odin really fast. Good luck and enjoy gb, way better.
Personally I love KG6 ICBINB more than any of the other roms thus far. And yeah, Odin is pretty simple. Although, it was a little hairy in the beginning on the original Vibrant. I hard bricked mine once on Odin but its gotten a LOT better since.

[Q] At&t Samsung Infuse 4g, Gingerbread 2.3.6, Wont Root, SuperOneClick 2.3.3.0

Hello,
I recently upgraded my AT&T Samsung SGH-I997 (Infuse 4g) to the new GINGERBREAD.UCKL2 (2.3.6) version using Kies-Mini.
Now...
I got SuperOneClick v.2.3.3.0 to root the phone, just as I had done before with Froyo.
I made sure USB Debugging was on.
I started SuperOneClick and clicked ROOT
I plugged my phone into USB (Did not click to connect)
SuperOneClick freezes on Step 7.
I have tried every method out there to get around this.
Ideas? Thanks.

SOC has not been reported to be a good tool for root.
I recalled 1 user reported success with repeat attempts.
You can try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
Try a few times...see if there is a zerg rush option also.
Let us know.
edit...nvm...doesn't work...only up to 2.3.5

Tried the method linked to above twice to no avail. Each time the process is apparently run without a hitch -- and the phone automatically reboots. But there is no root access when I check using root check or trying to run Titanium BU. If anyone has any other ideas, I'm all ears. I'd like to get rooted....
yes please be a guinni pig. but i dont have high hopes for rooting without a non secure kernel.
now that the bulk of users arent scare of gb since it became official it would be nice to see if anything will root it other than a kernel (the kernel swap is fool proof but annoying with all the lagfix and sdcard mounting weirdness that we have right now, need sources and devs... lol)

Yeah, I tried it on my newly updated (to 2.3.6 build) Infuse about half dozen times (via SOC), to no avail. Gave psneuter exploit a couple tries too. Oh well.

you're right. up to uckj4 was possible.
I wasn't paying attention to the last .5 to .6 change after uckj4
I am in the same boat. I didn't do the research about the ease of rooting prior to moving to gingerbread. I have been waiting intently and checking often for this official gingerbread release.
So far I am noticing tremendously increased battery life. I could normally run 8-10 hours and with the same usage I am getting 14-16.
I miss my root terribly- I use it to Wifi Tether for my laptop among many things.
I am willing to be a tester, I have no experience with rooting or flashing beyond SOC. I am an old-school blackrain/redsnow guy from my iphone days so I get nervous with all this "flashing kernels" talk.
Any advice for a novice wanting to enjoy some gingerbread goodness without sacrificing root?
Any recommended kernels to flash to for the infuse? I want it to be as close to stock as possible without losing features or my newfound battery.
Root FTW!

Try Zeus Build 5.2 stock or Victory or Leak Uckl2 rooted. There are all uckl2 based. As Close to stock as possible.
I wonder if downgrading to older rooted firmware and then using CWM, applying a zip format of the UCKL2 rooted ROM would work? Just a thought...
I don't know if this method works.
Flash a custom kernel with root on it. Then flash back to stock kernel. Worked when leak came out, so I don't see why it won't work with this since they're identical.

It's strange you say that... My battery life was excellent (before update) and is now dreadful. I'd love to go back to stock Froyo if I knew how...

yes that would work. but you could also flash the rooted leak with a flashtool like odin or swap kernels around with a flash tool like odin or heimdall since you will need it to flash stock anyhow....
im working on it, seems answering the question isnt enough, i have to make it simple and all parts in one place with a unified instruction set and a large banner that says "root gingerbread update!"
That sounds awesome Dani. I don't mind the idea of trying out something like Zeus or Odin. I love Greek and Norse mythology so these names really hit home. I guess I just need the proper files and a "hold my hand and walk me through" for the exact scenario I'm in. Thanks in advance for all the replies and suggestions.

this is true but some people prefer stock (odexed and all) and its not totally unreasonable. I'm running Zeus myself. and it is quicker than other kl2 builds I used. I have all the stuff I want to put together but I'm juggling time with watching my nephews, fixing my car and later the big game and I have to test every thing in there too. I'm a bit slow but ill get everything together before tomorrow I'm sure.
Hello I'm fairly new to this mod stuff. I had a Captivate and used SOC without a hitch. Never had to flash anything well not that I know of. I'd like to root my Infuse to really get rid of all the bloatware and put on an ad blocker. Can someone run down the steps of how to flash my phone or point me to a good link? Much appreciated

hang on. they pulled the update and will release another one.
bassicaly you can flash a Rogers based custom kernel for root but the sdcard mounting and video and wifi is all different and depending on the kernel you flash may not work. the more recent version of these kernels have workarounds in the boot scripts and will fix the sdcard and wifi, the video is a fix you gotta do yourself and the Rogers phone doesn't support HDMI so that is lost. the best thing to do is flash a custom kernel for one boot and flash back to stock. I was making a cwm package to flash the kernel to stock but had errors in my updater script. I can fix it but I'm waiting on the next update because I don't feel like doing it twice. I figure if someone truely needs root they should be able to follow the Rogers root thread an get through it.
if you want to do it manually you will need the stock kernel and a custom kernel like the Rogers root kernel. and you will want the ultimate unbrick package (just in case) and a copy of Odin3 v1.7 or v1.82 or heimdall. there is an Odin flashable copy of the kl2 kernel floating around somewhere. maybe in the numas rom or Caty rom thread but if not it can be extracted from the package from prezkret and zip'd and flashed with sgs kernel flasher.
when. you have all the parts, open odin and load the custom kernel into the PDA slot. the kernel must be in a tarball. that's an archive with a ".tar" extension. it may also be in a ".tar.md5" put the phone in download mode (shut down the phone and hold volume+ and volume- and insert the USB cable) when you see the android with a shovel start the flash.
reboot the phone, then flash the stock kl2 kernel. (don't flash the kg3 kernel from the Rogers thread or a froyo kernel) if you have the stock kernel in a .tar or .tar.md5 flash it the same way as before. if you have a zImage only then zip it and flash it through sgs kernel flasher from the market.
Any luck how to root 2.3.6 ?

[Q] Do i have to have an unlocked bootloader to flash lithium 1.3.1?

i have a sg3 unlocked and rooted and my girl decided she wants her atrix 2 rooted. im not even going to bother with unlocking the bootloader as from what i read, its a pain in the ass. so im just wanting to debloat and hopefully put her on a nice rom and she likes the look of lithium. i read where it has some OC potential and was wondering if it was going to try and flash a kernel....
so can i flash this without an unlocked bootloader?

The ATRIX 2's bootloader IS locked, and to date there is no known way of unlocking it. That being said, you (or your girlfriend, or both) are stuck with the stock Moto kernel. As far as Lithium v1.3.1, its a very nice rom. However, there are several very nice roms available to the ATRIX 2 -you'll just have to peruse the thread posts for each in the development section to see which one works for what you want. Also, most, if not all roms are already running the init.d supported 00pptimize for overclock, as well as partially or fully de-bloated. Many, have been updated to run at either 1.1GHz or 1.2GHz, but you can always raise that with some careful editing, patience, and extensive testing. You cannot flash a kernel because, as mentioned before, the bootloader on the ATRIX 2 is locked. You can still flash custom roms, but you need to do a little leg work to get the appropriate measure in place first. Start by reading The Beginner's Guide for most all your preemptive knowledge with the ATRIX 2. This will show you rooting methods used, as well as our custom recovery (CWM). Once you have that, you should should be in good standings to move forward from there to get what you are looking for with the phone...
i appreciate the feedback. I havent had to face a locked bootloader so i was wondering but already knew i couldnt flash a kernal over it. Ive got bootstrap to get into recovery pretty knowledgeable android and the Root/flash/bootloader deal but this phone seems to be a pain compared to what im usually working with.
she doesnt need to be oc'd but just wants a new look... so ill give her this until she whines later about another one and how to do it.... or how i should do it.
thanks again.

Phone is about to go THRU THE WINDOW

Ok so this is more of a rant than anything. This fumblin phucking phone is constantly rebooting on me, shutting programs while i am using them, freezing. BATTERY dies quick, phone gets hot when in use....
The only thing I have done to it was rooted it, using that one click program, very easy process (couple months ago.)
What can I do???, has any of you did something? This phone is stock. I used to have a Galaxy S CRAPtivate and I was a flashaholic (btw that phone was sh*t compared to this one even with the freezing) but I see MOTO wont unlock the phone so i was wondering does that mean I can't change roms like I did on my old phone? I also would like to know what bootload means because i have that installed too and dont know what that is? I am sorry for being a noob! and yes i did read the N00b section lol
Where did you find the bootload that you installed, I'd like to check that out. As far as the rebooting, have you tried a factory reset? And what size / class sdcard are you running?

-First, let's just calm down a little bit...
-Now, let's make sure you actually have an Atrix 2, not an Atrix 4G. What does Settings -> About Phone -> Model Number say?
-You installed "bootload?" I assume you mean "bootloader?" Where is the guide you followed to do this?
-Yes you can change ROMs with a locked bootloader, but you can't directly change modify the kernel. So it's hard to build any ROMs aside from derivative stuff (based off of stock Moto ROMs)
-What size/class microSD card do you use?
-Have you installed any apps/changed ANYTHING on your phone recently? Are you on GB 2.3.6 or 2.3.5?
If there is one thing I've learned since I'm back to stock waiting for the soak test to actually start is that stock sucks big time both in terms of battery life and overall stability (I've had a lot of stability issues with a lot of apps, even the stock music app(!) that I haven't experiemced in custom Roms)
I highly recommend installing a custom ROM. I've made pretty good experiences with ROMULUS (pretty much fantastic ROM) and Lithium.

The Atrix 2 Bootstrap .apk is the door opener to allow the flashing of CWM Custom Recovery on boot. You have to install the Bootstrap .apk, run it by clicking the first button, then the second. It will reboot your phone into recovery, where you can flash the CWM on boot Recovery found (use the ON BOOT WITH QORKING GPS on found in the forum here). If you're wanting to flash a custom rom, you will have to have these measures in place first, as this is the only way to install any rom. Please note that some roms are flashable .zips, and others are CWM backup images. Be sure you know what you are doing for each rom that you attempt to install. All of the necessary instructions will be listed in each thread for each of the roms available...
From the n00b's guide:
CWM is a custom recovery program that allows you to backup / restore a full or partial system backup of your device. It also allows you to install flashable .zip files; which is one of the primary installation methods for custom ROMs. It also provides other neat features such as cache wiping, battery reset, and other processes. Long story short, if you are thinking about flashing custom ROMs or just want a really good backup program, incase you FUBAR your device, you need to install this.
For Atrix 2 Bootstrap:
1. Install the RazrBootstrap.apk
2. Select "Bootstrap Recovery"
3. Superuser will prompt for permissions
4. Select "Reboot Recovery"
When the phone reboots it will boot up into Clockworkmod Recovery.
Again, to get the CWM ON BOOT WITH WORKING GPS look for it in this forum. Sorry, I'm being lazy and don't want to search for it myself...

Should I update my phone?

Hi, I have a Galaxy S2 LTE with Rogers - i727r (apparently it's called the Skyrocket in the USA) I really want to update it but I've been reading a lot of complaints about the ICS for this phone. Should I update or should I just root it? And if I should root it, which rom DOES NOT drain battery life and DOES NOT use up too much of my ram?
Thanks!
I have tried many roms... They are pros and cons to each and every one of them. But yet they are all outstanding. You probably don't wanna hear this, Flash a few and try them out. But you have to make the decision first to root...because without root, you're not flashing anything .
U don't actually have to root. Since Samsung was kind enough to leave the boot loader unlocked just flash a different recovery. U also have the added benefit with this method of no flash counter increase.
As for ics, I highly recommend skyics to get u started, and cm9 if ur feeling adventurous
