[Q] Dropped my transformer! - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

No real damage, one of the corners is bent Called Asus to see if there was a chance they could send me a replacement bezel and it looks like they won't have any parts any time soon.
I'm a real stickler for cosmetic damage on my devices, do you guys think I'd be able to sell it for anything close to retail?

How in hells name did you drop it with all it's textured back?

ill buy it from you. $350

I can see how it is possible. Even though the back is textured, it is not rubbery so it is still kinda slippery. I had a few close calls myself already, but lucky for me it hasn't happened.
To the OP - sorry to hear it, I hate when my new toys get even scratched as well. However, not to be a smart ass or anything, but would you pay anything close to retail for a dropped tablet with obvious damage? I know I wouldn't. I'd say if it really bothers you that much - try to sell it but prepare to take a hit on a price. The real challenge will probably be finding a new one. Good luck!

I was walking while taking it out of a neoprene case, the neoprene isn't very sticky, and the tablet sort of flew out.

I think I'm going to craigslist it for $375'ish. Haven't decided yet.. Since they're still hard to find I think there's a chance I might get a buyer.

Doesn't Asus have 90 days accidental damage coverage? I know it depends on the device, not sure about transformer? Check w/ your Credit Card as well, they might have that insurance coverage. Good luck

Personally I wouldn't, but there's a lot of demand and I with just a cosmetic damage, I can see someone like a developer or just anyone who doesn't care for a little bend see'ing it as an opportunity to save some money.

Dropped my phone in water... HELP!

Was out on the lake with a few friends and my phone was dropped in water. I do not know how long it was in water, but when i found it, it was soaked. Is putting it in a bag of rice going to work? Please [email protected]!!!`
That sucks man....Make sure you pull the battery and let it sit for 48 hours. You can even use a blow dryer. I have heard of the rice working but they have beads you can get called HeartFelt beads and they will suck the moisture out of anything.
Just make sure you don't turn it on until you have let it sit long enough. You might get lucky. You might not. I hope you have insurance.

Rice will work... I had a friend this happened to. Pull the battery, towel dry it, and put it in an air tight container.. in the middle of some rice. Let it sit at least 48hrs. I would give it 96 personally to make sure. After 48, move the rice around a bit so some drier morsels are closer to the device, wait another 48. Put the battery in the container too but not in the device.
i got one of these to avoid this kind of disaster while out on the lake... http://www.otterbox.com/OtterBox-10...-20_color=20&start=1&cgid=otterbox-1000-cases
hope you get it dried out. was the phone on when it hit the water?

Cool, thanks. I just ordered one. That will definitely come in handy while working at the FireHouse when were en-route to fires and my phone usually crashes all around the pumper while flying through the city streets.

the g2x fits in there nice, even with my bodyglove case on. i do have to take off the belt clip though. there is some play in it though,it's not a custom fit. but, it is nicely lined with some .....i'd have to say neoprene? yes, it's neoprene. and it seems thick enough to really protect during a drop. and the outer case is rock solid. i wouldn't do it, but i'd bet you could launch your phone 50 feet and it would survive. i'm gonna try it with my g1 lol. seriously. and i'm gonna record it. maybe otterbox will send me a case if i show them how i demonstrate it's durability.
if you wanted to custom fit it, you could probably glue in a second liner with this.. http://www.google.com/products/cata...=X&ei=ywzGTZfgEsjb0QHT8oSuCA&ved=0CF0Q8wIwAg#
yeah... the phone was on when it went under. it went in a cooler and im not sure how long it was in the cooler for. i approximate it was in the cooler for about ~20 mins. im sooo pissed. i just bought this phone like 1 week ago. im still within the store return policy(14 days) but im not sure they will even take it back if it will not power on. (i was planning on taking it back anyway b/c it keeps hard freezing.)

Dude, if I were you, I would try to return it to every store around you until you find someone stupid enough not to look at the water damage strip. I returned mine to 2 different stores and neither one looked at it. Just neatly package it up and try. Whats the worst that can happen? Your bound to find someone who will return it.

Or you could live up to your mistake, bite the bullet and be honest. What a concept. What part of doing what he suggests isn't immoral, wrong, and fraud?
How about T-Mobile just repackages that phone and sends it to you jrwingate6? I'll bet you'd be pissed.
Why do you people think it's so hard to get these companies to do right by US?
You could always just sell it here. What's the difference.? Put in one of those fake indicators....what the hay.
Am I'm the only one that thinks this? Changing out the moisture indicator?Jeesh. Pretty sorry if you ask me.

amen. i mentioned the indicators without thinking only because i know they do sell them. but in the real world where i'm not half asleep at my pc, i'd never recommend someone do something like this. and if it looked like i was condoning something like that, i wasn't. in my years of cell phone usage,10 or so, i have never returned a phone due to my carelessness. my g1 has a cracked screen from 6 months after i got it. still sitting on my desk, still working.

Where in my post did I mention changing the water damage indicator strip? I told him to return it and quite frankly if the employee doesn't look for water damage then that's there own damn fault for not doing what they were trained to do. Sorry about that bad taste in your mouth....HAHA.

I never mentioned anything about tricking someone. I don't know how you can come away with tricking someone from my post. Somebody else mentioned the stickers you can buy from EBay and yes, that would be tricking. I just told him to return as is and tell them it doesn't work. Its up to the store employee to examine the device to determine if it has water damage or not. If you think that is tricking then maybe you should go pop open a English Dictionary.

just a side thought, #contemplating

so my g2x is kind of roughed up (i've had the same one since april guess i got lucky cause i've had minimal issues) and I can't stop thinking about just callin tmobile and gettin a new one but i don't even know if it's worth it cause i don't wanna end up with a bad one and end up switching a million more times for cosmetic damage (which isn't what i'd tell them) but I heard a lot of people just get sensations for it instead which I'm thinking about doing simply because it's worth more (which i think is bullshi*) and just sell it as soon as i get it as a new phone and just cut my losses and go somewhere else ? I don't really want to let this phone go but with the way i handle it and what it's worth right now in the market I really don't think it's worth the extra 200 bucks i'd loose but idk where else i'd go either so idk . . .don't mind the hashtag i don't fux with twitter but i thought the tag suited the feeling... don't forget i <3 my g2x im just torn..nohomo.
so, because you "roughed yours up", you feel tmobile owes you a new one? you made it sound like that was your main concern--the cosmetic damage which YOU caused. does anyone in this country have any morals left?
my body glove case scratched up the side of my phone from taking it on and off all the time. i'm gettin me a new gs2!

Damm yeah its a beast case but like you said the way it's designed to hold sucks. When I get a SOD I try my best to be careful opening it.

Mytouch 4g had a hard plastic and scratched the sides. It was an eye sore and hated that I caused that damage to my phone.
I was more careful with the g2x and ended getting a rubber case. Easy removal, no scratches and can treat the phone rough without worry. When it didn't have the case I felt like my phone was naked.
Rubber case is best option
While I have never had one replaced for cosmetic reasons, I have enjoyed getting a nice replacement. I never really beat mine up though. All my phones looked pristine aside from a new TINY scratches. Never really did anything I couldn't live with.
There are ways around cosmetics though. It isn't like the G2x never had any problems that Tmobile wasn't aware of. Something simple as "the GPS doesn't work" could do it. However Tmobile charges $20 for replacements and if its pretty banged up, they may say it was user damage and not replace it.
ok real talk T-Mobile is happily getting paid and willing to give all their **** to ATT so why would I honestly think twice before making a legitiment financial decision about this phone since honestly i had a LG before and it just quit working the software just bailed on the phone outta nowhere but if they're going to be douches and not support our phones and what not why should i feel obligated to be a good Samaritan after #1 they lied to me in April saying the update will be out in 2 weeks #2 LG didn't even make a legitiment update yet. and this phone is worth 100 dollars less than a sensation and i don't F****ing know why and it pisses me off so yea if I switch it out for my cosmetic issues or w.e to make some of my money back i put in this phone which is still going to be a loss i don't see why it would be considered morally wrong especially after i know everyones been dicked by tmobile before atleast if you've been with them for a while.

You'll feel right at home because we already have an EB rom and a few others, not to mention Team Whiskey should hopefully have something up next week.
Honestly I'm loving my SGS2, I thought the phone size was gonna be a problem, but after a few hrs you get use to it and it really ain't that much bigger than the G2X.

on a side note i decided to just wait for it..

TF201/700 Dock Feet

So I've got to say that every aspect of having the dock for my TF700 Infinity is absolutely outstanding. Though I have had one issue that is seeming to become worse.
The "feet" on the dock have started to come off. So far I have lost two of them, without a clue as to where they have gone. I called ASUS, and they said that if I were lucky they might have them for sale on there site, which they don't. They also said that these missing feet would not be covered under warranty if I were to even go through the hassle of sending it back to them.
So this brings the question. Does anyone know where I can either get replacement feet, or what I might be able to fabricate new feet out of? I wouldn't normally care about the feet, except that they do a wonderful job of keeping the tablet and dock from sliding around on my desk. I honestly wouldn't even mind adding a mm or two to the back feet so that they could do a better job of that while the tablet/dock are opened.
Any suggestions on a rubber type material, or other such material, that I could use to create some new feet? I'd be willing to make them for the community also if I could just find the right material. I am sure that I'm not the only one being plauged by this issue, maybe it's just bothering me more than most.
-FInire
Try on ebay - I've replaced the rubber feet on one of our laptops - there was a huge choice and managed to fine ones better than the originals.
Although not sure you'll get a colour match, I'm sure the sizes will be available in a number of heights.
Try a decoration or furniture store, they usually sell rubber non-slip anti-scratch stickers for under decorative items. They work rather well under the dock, too.

If you have a friend or you yourself owns a Hot glue gun then you can just put a tiny dolop of hot glue where the feet used to be. It should stay for a long while and they are just as good as a silicone nub or foot for these products. my wife has one of these thats the only reason why it came up. Otherwise i would go to Home Depot, by me they have a huge selection of these kinds of things for furniture.

I've got one myself actually. I'm just hesitant about doing something possibly so permanent. Also, I know if I can't get it just right, flat and all... It's really going to bug the crap out of me too... Not saying it's a bad idea, it's a great one... I'm just finding that I have to weigh it against my ocd...
The hot glue gun sounds like a great idea. I'll be trying that later today on my wife's laptop.

a small dab of RTV Silicone works well too. I've been doing that on my laptops for years.
I gave up... I used hot-glue... It works perfectly! And it's easily removable if need be. The only difficult part is getting it shaped correctly.
Hot glue works. I've used Sugru on my laptop feet. Love that stuff...

Those look quite nice. I'm going to order them, and hope that they stick on over my Skinomi. If not, I'll get the exacto blade out and carve them up to the right size.
I've had to replace my superglue feet twice so far, as they keep coming off.

Show me that V20 dent that is driving you crazy!! (Fun post)

The other day I was in the bathroom and forgot that I put my phone on the towel... Got a tiny dent on the corner(Plastic bezel sucks) even though once the cover for it comes in by the 14 of this month is driving me crazy just to see a scratch/dent on it.
Didn't even follow the title. You didn't "show us" anything.
Dont have a cam right now to take a pic. The phone fell and hit the floor with the right bottom corner. Honestly seems more like a chip mark than a dent or a scratch.

For most people you're right about the phone - and the random girl.
Yet no one puts cases on their fine crystal Scotch or Cognac glasses - they show them for the fine stemware beauty and art they are designed to be and treat them with care. And no one expects a random girl to be virgin clean ... especially a random that doesn't care if you're goin' in raw-dog.
I've always been disease free my whole life (I'm oooold) because I've chosen wisely .... and I've NEVER used a case on any of my Cell Phones, going all the way back to my first phone in 1992, because I treat them like the fragile glass and electronic pieces of artistic equipment they are.
As much as I agree with the analogy of cases for some people .... I certainly understand why most don't use a case.
Where we probably agree the most is when someone doesn't use a case (or condom) and then complains about how bad their lack of carefulness became a bad situation and blames everything/everyone but themselves.

That's why I use a clear case on my v20 with a built in metal kickstand. It shows off the phone but protects it.
The great news is that if you damage the top or bottom of your phone you can replace it by removing the 4 screws on those portions and buying a new chin or forehead. I swapped the bottom chin for a new one when my old one got scratched. It was quick and painless process.

Don't know what kind of case you have. I bought the tech 21 it's really rigid. I won't be sitting on this phone lol. In the video he use an awful lot of force I'd never put that kind of force on my phone.

I have a case that is more on the soft side but I haven't really done much to my phone besides put it in my pocket.
Wow that is so sad! I saw Jerry rigs strength test and it cracks during the bend test at 4 points where the antenna is. Oh god this phone is a nightmare then
Well.. send it it since you still have warranty?
Let's see how widespread an "issue" this is really going to be. I bet it won't be at all. [emoji1]

Was it your back pocket?
I smell a troll that saw a youtube video! LOL
I called support yesterday after reading the reports. Tier 1 rep went to Tier 2 to find out. He claimed that this would be covered by warranty barring other evidence of accidental damage - ie; fired from a cannon directly into a woodchipper. I guess I can't play hacky sack with the thing.

Why exactly does that make this phone a nightmare? The pressure they put on this phone in the test is WAY more than anyone would typically put on it. Put it in your back pocket and sit down, probably, but that would likely be any phone. I've had a ton of different phones, and never, ever had one bend. Even my Blackberry pearl, EVO, or nexus s. Those were way before phones were very sturdy. I seriously doubt most folks will bend this phone.

he forgot this wasn't a reddit post.
No cracks BUT I have official Google case for the xl (grey fabric) and just from taking it in/out of case some of the paint near the seam is coming off. WTF Google!!?? All black variant so I'm pretty pissed. Love the case but how the hell!? It's been in a case since minute 1 and never spent a second naked in my pocket or otherwise.

Seems like it's a big F for the glossy finish for the black variant. You could try to warranty it out and see what happens.

So as soon as you put it in the case this happened? Well it had to have since it was never outside a case for even a minute. But then you are taking it in and out of the case therefore it's been out for some time. I'm slightly confused as to if it's been out of a case or not. Nonetheless, I had a fabric case on my P3a and that thing is nearly impossible to get off. I did take it off once before the final time and it took me quite some time to get the phone out without damaging it. I'm not sure if the 4xl is the same but you definitely should get a replacement, put it in the case and leave it there.
I agree. I have the Pixel fabric case and find it impossible to take off. I find a good way is to take off the left side completely first. Don't try to take off from the top or bottom.

Sure I take it out but it's never touched a surface and never been in my pocket without a case. Primarily using new Pixel 4XL case from Google. It's pretty upsetting.
Probably the taking in and out of the case that's doing it. The stock Google cases fit very tightly, something that holds true with the two aftermarket cases I've also purchased. None of them were easy to get the phone in and out of and were/are tighter than I expect from a case. I mean so far the thing I've done with my phone that is most likely to break a phone is putting it in the cases I've owned.
On the bendy thing I don't buy it at all; it's not just a significant force applied but also done so in a very particular way on the very tip of the ends with a fulcrum in the middle. Try and imagine how you will apply a similar loading to the frame in actual use and it isn't easy to come up with a scenario. Not saying they wont bend or cant be broken but I am saying that I would be very skeptical of anyone claiming they encountered this damage in normal use.
One last thought here is that I wonder or question where the bar is, how strong should the phone be? Obviously it should be able to stand up to the rigors of the day to day but are we starting to expect too much? I'm actually asking, not sure if I can define a realistic expectation for a phones strength. I do feel however that some people are asking too much from what with current technology is inherently going to be a somewhat fragile piece of electronic equipment.
One question did they ever have a bend test for flip phones? Short answer no! Why they would snap in half. I agree I think we are expecting these phones to be tanks.
Here is a better question. Who puts a 1,000 dollar device in their back pocket like it's a .25 cent pack of gum? ?

The real question is where are you finding packs of gum for 25¢?
