Show me that V20 dent that is driving you crazy!! (Fun post) - LG V20 Guides, News, & Discussion

The other day I was in the bathroom and forgot that I put my phone on the towel... Got a tiny dent on the corner(Plastic bezel sucks) even though once the cover for it comes in by the 14 of this month is driving me crazy just to see a scratch/dent on it.

Didn't even follow the title. You didn't "show us" anything.

Dont have a cam right now to take a pic. The phone fell and hit the floor with the right bottom corner. Honestly seems more like a chip mark than a dent or a scratch.

People who don't put a case on an expensive device are like guys who don't use condoms with a random girl...I just don't get it...

I actually order a case but still hasn't arrive.

First thing I get is a case. Even if I have to buy from best buy and pay s premium price. Protection is first priority. After that I'll hit Amazon and get s case I like. I take no chances because you can't undo a drop.

For most people you're right about the phone - and the random girl.
Yet no one puts cases on their fine crystal Scotch or Cognac glasses - they show them for the fine stemware beauty and art they are designed to be and treat them with care. And no one expects a random girl to be virgin clean ... especially a random that doesn't care if you're goin' in raw-dog.
I've always been disease free my whole life (I'm oooold) because I've chosen wisely .... and I've NEVER used a case on any of my Cell Phones, going all the way back to my first phone in 1992, because I treat them like the fragile glass and electronic pieces of artistic equipment they are.
As much as I agree with the analogy of cases for some people .... I certainly understand why most don't use a case.
Where we probably agree the most is when someone doesn't use a case (or condom) and then complains about how bad their lack of carefulness became a bad situation and blames everything/everyone but themselves.

That's why I use a clear case on my v20 with a built in metal kickstand. It shows off the phone but protects it.

The great news is that if you damage the top or bottom of your phone you can replace it by removing the 4 screws on those portions and buying a new chin or forehead. I swapped the bottom chin for a new one when my old one got scratched. It was quick and painless process.

Scratched metal

You know, I like the metal "stripe" down the back, but can you believe my fingernail scratched it? I don't think that bodes well for the long haul if I can scratch it that easily. And it's a real scratch, not a surface blemish as far as I can tell.
Anyone else already scratch the metal?
Mine is scratched, or scuffed, and I have no idea how it happened. I have been babying this thing.
i assume you took the plastic off of it? cause the plastic is easy to scratch. =) haha.

Yep...though you did make me second guess myself.
But yeah, it's off.
I think I'm going to try and exchange it...this must have been there when I got it.
Uhhh you didn't put a case on your phone right away? I bought their 20$ one and its awesome.... Protection yo.
U do know its "brushed" as in brushed metal... its made to look like that.... cuz I just tried scratching it (sense I'm getting a new one) and I can't scratch it with my nail..

Yeah I just tried it again and I couldn't either, so I'm thinking it was there already. The reason I scratched with my nail in the first place was I thought I saw some left over plastic or something still there. So I tried to scratch it off.
Instead of putting ugly bulky cases on my devices I just buy a couple spare battery covers on Ebay a couple months after the phone is released. I always wonder why people cover up there nice looking phone with a rubber case. Wonder why the manufacturers just don't make a rubber phone?

hey, it really does happen. i havent taken off the protectors cause they're not peeling for me. lol.
I am very very careful with all of my phones. I have yet to actually scratch one(I always use cases and screen protectors.) I was shocked when after only having installed the battery and set the device down that the aluminum strip had multiple scratches on it. I have no idea how they got there. Went to local T Mobile store and checked their demo unit and NO SCRATCHES . With all of the handling etc no scratches!!! I wonder if it is a quality control issue with the aluminum? I put a case on it within 4 hours of receiving it. I am having to send this one back due to random reboots -signal issues-battery overheating-lcd screen bleeding at edges- so I will be very very careful to see what this aluminum strip on the back is like. I am starting to wonder whether this phone is ready for prime time or not due to all the issues I have found and the many other issues others have found. I believe this can be a giant of a phone if all of the bugs can be worked out.

Well, I exchanged it thanks to the nice folks at T-mobile.
Make sure it's not the plastic on the strip that's messed up, as the first thing they checked was whether or not the plastic was still on.

Mine did that the other day. I looked at it and was like, "OMFG... already!"
Then I noticed the plastic. I wore it for a few days didn't even know it was on there. I recommend leaving it on unless there is a huge scratch on it.

Dropping phones is inevitable. It will SOON eventually happen. I hate to put on cases too, but it's necessary.
I would have just left the plastic on...why take it off? It was literally invisible and you couldn't tell it was even there.
The Galaxy is actually a beast. I've dropped mine so many times and it held up. Don't let the lightness fool us..it's one beast and held it's own on it's fall...impressive.
As they say, the bigger and heavier you are, the harder you fall...
There's a huge advantage of the Galaxy being light...
The worst phones for falls are HTC's...wayyy to heavy...
I agree with dropping the galaxy s. That phone is well built! People may not like the plastic build but it is a very durable phone!
Regarding the G2x, I am carrying it naked it is a good looking phone. Gonna buy the European battery covers when they become available.

[VIDEO] Installation of ZAGG InvisibleSHIELD HD for the Samsung Galaxy S4

Anytime I purchase a new phone, it is the time to put on a new ZAGG. I'm willing to try out other brands, but of course this is the usual in your face brand available at many local retailers.
Best Buy was ready with a complete line from original to smudge proof to high definition. They didn't have the front and back which is pretty common. ZAGG's site never seems to list every combination available either.
Anyways since running one of my Note 2's naked to prove a point, I've gone back to putting something on a new phone shortly after unboxing it. I don't care how many Youtube videos there are about Gorilla Glass this or that. A nice pair of keys or some good ole American currency in the form of coins seems to be a powerful combination against a phone.

Just my opinion but if you are recording a video of a screen protector installation and you cut out the tough/problem moments (at 4:13, 4:36, and 6:00), it makes the video less helpful. I personally would rather watch a longer video and see how you deal with the tough moments instead of you cutting them out since that makes the installation seem easier than it actually is to put on.
Of course that's just my opinion, trying to give constructive criticism to help with future videos, feel free to throw it in the trash if it doesn't help at all or I'm just talking crazy
There really weren't any issues. I did cut some of the constant squeegee moments out IIRC. Use application fluid liberally and go to town.
Thanks for the feedback though. I'll make a version where I don't remove a second for you to look at.
I'll also be sure to watch your videos for guidance in the future. Just post an example here.
EDIT: 4:13 just pull it up to align it better. Just like starting all over again. 4:16 I let go of it once it was visually aligned. 6:00 probably should have shown more but just used the squeegee a lot. When you use liberal amounts of application fluid, it makes alignment easy. You just have more to squeegee.

Here's that 46 seconds I cut out....
Enjoy!
Not sure you read the manual but you were suppose to turn the phone off and let it be off like 12 hour for the water and bubble to go away. And also not really good to spray right on the phone as it goes into the holes. Its right in the manual. I just installed the non HD but i think the HD might look even better. SGP is the best to be honest but for the time being i use this until i get a hold of Spigen .
Not sure if you listened to the video, but I talked about that for 30 to 45 seconds.
I keep it on to check for dust trapped in there.
Premium phones aren't too hydrophobic. If you choose to spray directly, pay attention when you in squeegee.
If you want someone's real feedback who has installed them several times with no dust trapped in between layers and no bubbles, watch the video. If you want to read a manual... Read the manual. Any company that did suggest you to spray the device would have a huge liability for doing so. No company in their right mind would even hint at it.

They dont recommend it for a good reason! And you spray it right into the speaker even which is not ok. Sure you dont get dust or bubble but is that primary concern? Still when you put something like this some people will take it as its ok to do so and might end up damaging their phone.
And saying in the video if you get away with it is pretty stupid phrasing, what does that mean even? Do you mean its luck so take a gamble with your brand new phone? If you dont this many times than you should know better

Spend your life reading manuals. Obviously you didn't need to watch the video, and obviously you didn't originally or you would have heard what I said. I'll continue to give advice based on what I've done in life as long as it dose not put people in harms way. I rather show a worst case scenario vs someone watching and wondering what happens if they accidentally got a lot of liquid on the screen.
I'm no cell phone designer, but I'm willing to bet the speaker grille was designed in a manner to resist water. Actually that the whole assembly was. We have sweaty people using phones, people in downpours using phones, etc. The flagship device has to take this into account or lose to a competitor's phone. Despite all of this, I still took the time to explain that I was deviating from the manual.
I guess I should go rip the supercharger out of my car as well because I just voided the warranty on it by installing it. Car manufacturer doesn't believe I should run boost. I am one of those people who buys a new car and modifies it. Perhaps you fall into the category of those who wait for the warranty to run out before touching it.
Yes, I blocked you from the Youtube channel because you were just voting down my videos. When you commented from another username you did the same thing again. I make these videos to support my family. I have a baby girl that was born on the 24th. You also fall into the category of those who are willing to criticize, but you don't have a valid Youtube channel of your own. If you want to do something productive, make videos and show things from your perspective instead of coming to my channel to bash me.

Ok so much text for basically saying you "think" its ok but your not sure. I only pointed out my view and highlighted your mistake. Your comment saying if you can get away with it is just silly to me but that is my opinion cause its just could cause you damage period. Has nothing to do with if your cautious or not.
I actually was searching to see if others used the small sticker on the home key when i bumped into your video and was surprised that
first you did not turn the phone of and second you keep spraying huge amount of water straight into the phone which is never ok. this is totally different from when you hold your phone and talk when your sweaty i hope you do realize that.
And there is a reason why there is a like/dislike on youtube, when you use the service you agree to accept it for what its worth, i was not rude or anything and added my opinion so when you sensor stuff out/block a user your taking it to another level. I actually never dont dislike but this was in my view a bad video (not bad for most part but what i already pointed out) so i made a thumb down. You as a reviewer should learn to accept when people dislike something and learn from it instead of doing censorship, that will hurt you more in the long run if you want a good reputation, take it as a friendly advice.
No i dont have a channel so what? i watch allot of videos and as said i'm usually not criticizing without a good reason. Anyway i'm willing to let it go if you can.
And congrats on your baby :good:
thanks very much. the video was messy but im sure that's how it is in real life anyways. and you did include the 46 seconds you deleted under the video in the comments so idk why everyone is complaining. its right there lol
I state if you can get away with using no fluid go for it.
"Use as little spray as possible."
Isn't that what I said?

Fine fine... Sorry.
Anyways, I haven't gotten many Spigen products. When they were a upcoming company, just getting into the spotlight they sent me some cases. I loved the Argo (I believe that's what it's called) for the GS3.
The HD InvisibleSHIELDs definitely still have the orange peel effect, but it it hard to notice, for me at least, when the screen is lit.
Just cause you mentioned it, I might go through some Spigen products and make an order.

cheers, the thing that bothers me with InvisibleSHIELD is the feeling, its not very glossy, when i use swypekey or drag my finger it just dont feel as it should, its a bit "sticky" feeling to it. Also it gets sticky on the edges after some time and pulls durt to itself. Its still new so no issue but i know my iphone use to gather lot of dirt after being in my pocket on the edges. Never had that problem with other brands. But all and all Spigen has some of the best i seen (will check the Argo too). Hori (from Japan) is actually best and is close to bubble free but they dont make for all gadgets. I got Hori for my PS Vita and i cant even see the layer. Its truly amazing.
Looking forward to some Spigen review

Cool.. I need to look up all this other stuff, but I'm at work right now... SHHHHH
Going to make a blog style site with a forum subsection on my main forum for case/screen protector reviews. I'm rusty because I have a full time job again. For a year all I did was work on my own forum and make videos.
Sounds like fun
But nice with full time job so you get income every month. Looking forward to new reviews

Keys and coins will not scratch the screen, it's more likely particles of sand in the air found themselves in your pocket or something, (you can find countless articles around here)
Anyways, I have a Zagg on my Xperia Arc and after 1 year of use it has multiple stretch marks (around 20 of them) which is slightly annoying and the oleophobic coating seems to have disappeared :< (that maybe my fault however) and like a comment from before the feel of Zagg is not for me :/ it doesn't have a slick feel to it.
One tip however is to apply screen protectors in your bathroom (as crazy as it sounds) as it the room with the least likely to have dust, especially after a shower/bath
great video !

Right. I was about to bust out the popcorn. XD

Dropped my Moto X Pure for the 100000x time. [TLDR: Broke :( ]

So today i have finally broke my phone I am currently phoneless until my replacement screen comes in so i will be going phoneless from here until atleast 4/20!! So i would like to describe what happened. Usually this phone is a tank and i can drop it 1 million times without it breaking until today happened. I was already having a really bad day i woke up late in the morning and almost missed my bus. i went to school looking like trash and then i end up going through the whole day with a really bad headache. I had to deal with a horrible mat teacher who gave me a (no joke) 66.60 for the marking period. half the class failed. So whatever i dealt with her then i went through my day until i was in my last period class. i was wearing gym shorts today so my pockets were really loose and i had my phone in my right pocket. I was sitting in a chair that was 2 feet off the ground and BAM my phone smashes into the floor. At this point I'm like "oh crap its done" so i flip it over and there was only a tiny crack in the top left hand corner so im like oh okay no biggy I can deal with that. That wasn't the worst of it. The screen powered on perfectly fine nothing looked wrong however only one half of the touch screen worked. Touching the screen anywhere under the power button wouldn't work. Running a DPI of 420 puts 2 essential things right in that exact area (dpi wont matter for the second thing) 1. My lock password is toast so i cant unlock my phone 2. even if i could unlock my phone (some cases i was able to unlock my phone but it works for 5 seconds then stops) the nav bar lives in that zone so im screwed. I just find it funny how a tiny drop can be so fatal and disable half a screen while i drop my phone daily from many different heights and thee wort it got was a scratch. I'm curious what are your drop stories?????
PS. if you don't see me participate in the threads I usually stalk its because I prefer to browse and post to XDA from XDA Labs. The website sucks.
I have repaired my phone and ordered the black dualpro or whatever its called case by insipio I ended up getting it for $25 should be here in a few days the company who ships it is very reliable
photos to follow within the week
Same thing happened to me. But replacing the screen on these is really easy, provided you get the screen/digitizer and frame assembly. Ijust did mine last week. Now i wont take off the case again. I have never cracked a screen until this phone. But up and going again.

Maybe if you just got black or something. Some of us customized them in Moto maker or skinned them. It would be useless to cover it up and I don't like the clear cases. Sure you have to be careful but you really should even with a case. The thing is accidents happen and a case isn't a guarantee that the phone won't break anyways.

If only they weren't so ugly for this phone. Good thing I take care of my stuff...
@WelcomeToTheSkye Sorry to hear about your phone. And your class. I was so scared I was gonna drop my MXP until I got a case. I was expecting the rubber on the back to be grippy but mine is slippery compared to my old moto E and the metal makes it worse. If you'd like a case recommendation, I have the Diztronic case and the Incipio Octane. They're both good. The octane looks better because it lets you back material show through and it adds more grip, but the headphone port cutout isn't big enough for my ATH-M50s
The Diztronic is really really nice. It just doesn't add as much grip. The buttons are also really easy to press. It's the one I usually use.

I got a pretty nice looking carbon fibre look case off eBay for less than £5 and it's saved my phone no end of times, if you go caseless and your phone breaks you only have yourself to blame
Wallet cases are also a great way to protect your phone/screen. I looked around on Amazon for a while and the only well reviewed one was the one by a company called J&D. I purchased it in turquoise and paired it with the Pleson tempered glass screen protector and the only downside is that all tempered glass protectors for this phone come up a little on the sides due to the curved screen but otherwise this is a protective and attractive combination.

Make sure you head over to https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-X-Pure-Moto-X-Style/bd-p/449 before having Moto Mobility work on it. There's some disagreement over whether it's a scam or negligence, but either way you're in for a lot of trouble.
I don't use a case either because it makes the phone too large for a pocket. Too bad Moto didn't put a rim around the glass like every other Chinese and Japanese phone has. I guess they wanted the iPhone look with a minimalist white face and a cracked screen.

Same thing happened to me I stripped 6/20 of the screws... Turns out if you rip the screen off by getting a screwdriver under it you can still the stripped screws out of the back frame. It doesn't need all 20 screws it needs the one to hold the motherboard to the screen and at least 8 to keep it in place

Everybody says this so I'm betting Leno glued the screws in. It's fixable if it's into plastic. Lift the edge of the screw head with a knife tip as you turn it. Once it's out, clean the threads. Dip a thin wire into plastic welding glue (modeling and pipe glue works) and wet the inside of the screw hole. Clear out any excess glue. Let the glue dry somewhere warm for at least an hour. The screws should fit now.
Can you post a link to the replacement you got? I bought one of the higher priced ones on ebay and have had three with screen issues. The seller just wants to refund me at this point, so I need to find one that will not have light bleed, dead pixels and an unresponsive screen. Thanks in advance!
I am not recommending anyone do this and am not responsible if you mess your phone up. but this worked For my stripped screw. Replaced my screen today. One screw stopped I drilled the head of the screw out. I used a left handed bit because you drill in reverse with these and if the bit grabs it may unscrew. May but didn't. It made me very nervous but worked. And the part of the screw that was left in didn't matter since I bought the screen with the bezzle/frame. And I had a extra screw same size. It was Philips head but worked. There is a good chance if you try to drill out your stripped screws you will completely brake your phone. But there is that small chance for success?

Has your glass shattered yet?

I just purchased 2 of these during black friday and the back of my wife's phone just shattered in her hand. Mind you she has a case on it. It's 28 degrees F here today, and she went outside during her break and sent me a text saying the phone just shattered in her hand. The phone has never been dropped. Mine is still fine so far and I'm praying it doesn't happen to me lol. Has anyone experienced this yet?
the heat made the glass expand probs RIP
I got that into moto G. I was into my vehicle and the AC was on the phone holder was fixed above the AC vent , so the cool air was hitting the device back . in my country ( Qatar ) we have a very hot days and that days was 45C . so when I went out of my vehicle it cracked right away ! . always if u have this situation u need to just open the door open and make the air come's into ur vehicle then u can get ur phone out . GD Luck !.
You would of thought Wuawei would of conducted extreme temperature testing specifically after using a new technique and materials for the manufacturing of the rear cover.
Thanks for the heads up l have to be extremely careful now when lm in hot countries..
PS: I would contact Vmall/Huawei/Honor as this is a manufacturing flaw and they need to address this as your using your device in a normal manner.
Got another one on the way, hopefully we won't run into this issue with the new one. I've been super nervous about this. I really hope the the glass used on that phone was defective. Here's a pic. Notice it looks as if it starts where the flash is.

I'm sorry but I don't buy self exploding glass stories I read on forums.. The picture shown clearly shows the point of impact at the very top of the camera flash.. i'm not sure what kind of case she had but it probably was not strong enough to absorb the impact

Did you not read the op? Impact from what? The phone was never dropped or hit by anything. I don't do a lot of posting, but when I do, it's not to come post lies, or exaggerations, especially on a forum dedicated to mobile devices. On top of that, the case that's on the phone adds about 2cm to the back, but that's beside the point, simply due to the phone not even being in a situation that required the case or phone to take any impact what so ever.

I'm not calling you a liar and I did read the OP... with that said a phone doesn't have to be dropped... damage could occur right from someone's pockets, pocketbook or purse.
And in this case it was your wife I'm not sure where she stores or carries her phone, if she's like my wife or a typical woman its probably in her purse. Could have dropped her purse, someone could've sat on her purse who knows.. Close a car door on her purse?
But I'm sorry I stated again phones don't just crack on their own.

The phone was in her hand when it cracked. She was taking pictures of herself, using the rear camera (which she obviously noticed that it wasn't broke at the time), sent me a pic, then she took another and this time noticed that it was shattered. Phone never left her hand as she was outside vaping. So I don't see what could have impacted the phone other than cold weather. It's very possible that the glass could have been defective, or it was forcibly assembled, in which would have caused pressure in the flash area due to it having a slight bevel around it. I just don't see how this is "impossible" when people buy defective items everyday. I posted to see if any other user has experienced this, not to argue or defend myself about how it happened. If you don't believe that things like this can happen, then why did you feel that you had to post your opinion?
My wife's iPhone cracked on its own.. we woke up in the morning and there was one straight crack just above the middle from each side of the bezels. We called Apple and they just needed pictures of the crack and they approved the free repair. So these random cracks do happen.
In any case, the phone came out in, I think, August? I haven't seen or heard of any similar reports of this happening, so unless lots of people's phones start shattering spontaneously from temperature shifts due to colder weather it's probably just a random crappy thing that can happen happening. I won the dead on arrival Core i5 4690K lotto when I built a friend's roommate a PC two or three years ago. **** happens sometimes.

already said than random cracks happened due to weather changing with the phone .
First ( Changing The Place Hot to cold or opposite )
Second ( Charging The phone while battery id very low will make device very hot and it the glass touch any cold material might crack .
Third : using the phone for long time while playing games will make the device hot from the back and if it touch a cold materiel might crack Also ! .
and there is many reasons to having a crack,

I called support yesterday after reading the reports. Tier 1 rep went to Tier 2 to find out. He claimed that this would be covered by warranty barring other evidence of accidental damage - ie; fired from a cannon directly into a woodchipper. I guess I can't play hacky sack with the thing.

Why exactly does that make this phone a nightmare? The pressure they put on this phone in the test is WAY more than anyone would typically put on it. Put it in your back pocket and sit down, probably, but that would likely be any phone. I've had a ton of different phones, and never, ever had one bend. Even my Blackberry pearl, EVO, or nexus s. Those were way before phones were very sturdy. I seriously doubt most folks will bend this phone.

No cracks BUT I have official Google case for the xl (grey fabric) and just from taking it in/out of case some of the paint near the seam is coming off. WTF Google!!?? Seems like it's a big F for the glossy finish for the black variant. You could try to warranty it out and see what happens.

So as soon as you put it in the case this happened? Well it had to have since it was never outside a case for even a minute. But then you are taking it in and out of the case therefore it's been out for some time. I'm slightly confused as to if it's been out of a case or not. Nonetheless, I had a fabric case on my P3a and that thing is nearly impossible to get off. I did take it off once before the final time and it took me quite some time to get the phone out without damaging it. I'm not sure if the 4xl is the same but you definitely should get a replacement, put it in the case and leave it there.
I agree. I have the Pixel fabric case and find it impossible to take off. I find a good way is to take off the left side completely first. Don't try to take off from the top or bottom.

Sure I take it out but it's never touched a surface and never been in my pocket without a case. Primarily using new Pixel 4XL case from Google. It's pretty upsetting.
Probably the taking in and out of the case that's doing it. The stock Google cases fit very tightly, something that holds true with the two aftermarket cases I've also purchased. None of them were easy to get the phone in and out of and were/are tighter than I expect from a case. I mean so far the thing I've done with my phone that is most likely to break a phone is putting it in the cases I've owned.
On the bendy thing I don't buy it at all; it's not just a significant force applied but also done so in a very particular way on the very tip of the ends with a fulcrum in the middle. Try and imagine how you will apply a similar loading to the frame in actual use and it isn't easy to come up with a scenario. Not saying they wont bend or cant be broken but I am saying that I would be very skeptical of anyone claiming they encountered this damage in normal use.
One last thought here is that I wonder or question where the bar is, how strong should the phone be? Obviously it should be able to stand up to the rigors of the day to day but are we starting to expect too much? I'm actually asking, not sure if I can define a realistic expectation for a phones strength. I do feel however that some people are asking too much from what with current technology is inherently going to be a somewhat fragile piece of electronic equipment.
One question did they ever have a bend test for flip phones? Short answer no! Why they would snap in half. I agree I think we are expecting these phones to be tanks.
Here is a better question. Who puts a 1,000 dollar device in their back pocket like it's a .25 cent pack of gum? ?
