so i went to plug in my phone, and the moment i plugged it in the "powering down" window pops up, when the phone powers up my lock-ring is gone, and just my wallpaper is there? i have pulled the battery, booted into recovery, pulled the SD-card, tried calling my phone, then deleted my dalvik cache (thinking it could relate the kernel) but no matter what i cannot get the unlock ring too appear, this has never happened before, any suggestions??

Your Sig says EVO4G . This is the EVO Shift Forum. But from what you've listed, I would say at this point it's reflash time. If you can boot into recovery I'd say just boot into recovery and reflash. I would say that's your best bet.
This has happened to me for Evo Shift 4G. I had to open the keyboard and setup page showed up. What it is is a bad flash due to lack of wipe from data. I noticed once I didn't wipe data the lockscreen never showed up.

Agreed it is from a bad flash. Also, opening the keyboard will work to unlock the phone. If it's a Shift. But it will not solve the issue. Best thing is a Full Wipe (as you mentioned), and a reflash. Plus I'm not so sure he has a Shift. His Sig says EVO4G. He might have posted int the wrong section.
I've noticed funky things happening when you plug your phone in as it powers down.
Once it cleared everything off all my home screens.
soo i do have an evo 4g, not the shift but my thread was moved by someone else?
anyways.. i solved the problem temporarily, i flashed a new ROM and it worked fine i booted it up got all my contacts back, recovered apps, etc. then i turned it off. turned back on no problems... used for about 2 hours removed some preinstalled stuff i didn't want. phone was being unusually slow, so i restarted it and when it turned back on.. lock screen was gone again

I would say reflash again. But this time, do not remove anything unless your absolutely certain about what your removing.
So the past few days i have been dealing with an issue where my signal bars go grey/green constantly and its depleting my battery like crazy. When on wifi it seems fine but on data it is very irregular.
I just did a restore to an earlier bakcup i had and it still seems to do it. It did end up downloading all the updates since then, which could have screwed it up but i cant be sure.
Anyone else having this issue. I was going to restore but cant find a 2.3.6 rom.
any help is appreciated. Im wondering if the internal data modem is screwed up.

most likely its your providers fault. sounds like you are getting a pretty unreliable data connection. which, will deplete your battery quickly. check with your provider to see if they are having issues in your area.
i would think tho if it was my provider there would be SOMEONE else here with the problem. im in new haven CT. Ive tried restoring to 2 differant backups now, one waaaaaaaaaaaay back and it does it.
i will call to find out
thanks
quick question if they say to swap the phone then do i have to restore to stock unrooted? i dont feel like dealing with their BS right before ICS....
Restoring to stock on the nexus s is one of the easiest process of ANY phone. Install the stock zip and fast boot OEM lock. How is that BS or hard?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
i didnt mean restoring was BS i just meant dealing with ATT in general and questioning whether im rooted.
they would question a JB iphone everytime.

dont you need yoru background data on to get your emails and such?
Anyway tho I oddly fixed it or ATT repaired something at EXACTLY the same time.
I decided to go into my google market account to see if it saw my phone.
It did but had it as un named device, which it always has. I named the phone and then BAM havent had an issue since. This was the other day now.
Maybe google implemented something where you should name your device, i dunno maybe im special. This seems to have taken care of the issue. I checked background data before this tho and it all looked good.
Hi,
Whenever my phone dies due to battery drain I lose contact information, texts and application settings and other settings.
It has been happening off late. It was fine some months back.
I am on 2.3.5 and my phone is still under warranty. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?
Never heard of anything like that before. Anyway try flashing a new firmware 2.3.6. GB and give it a shot.. If the issue still persists, a service Centre is the best option..
Try simple things to minimise battery drain like alway turn off wifi, 2g, 3g. Use it only when its required. Other time turn it off. Flash xxkpq firmware & use UC kernel. Also tweaks & governers will help u alot. Also sync of mail do it manually. Auto sync always take ur battery like hell.

Dude the problem here is the loss of data after (maybe) reboot.. Battery drain is not the issue..
So the best way to check if it is a hardware issue or not is to flash a new firmware.. No mods required...
And she's obviously new here so let's keep it simple.. Flash guides and the links to download the required roms in the stickies section..
I read recently that turning off journaling can cause data corruption/loss. are you running stock, or customized? some customized roms turn off journaling for better performance...
in addition, for better apparent performance, some roms also increase read ahead/write ahead or something like that. if you were doing something when your phone dies (and is unable to shutdown properly because you pushed it to the max), it can die in the middle of reading or writing, and especially in the case of writing, likely will cause data corruption/loss.
so, once again, let us know if you're running stock or custom, and why you insist on killing the battery while using the phone instead of shutting it of at 1% or 2% to prevent this from happening anymore

But I can't keep preventing my battery to run out. Why should a battery drain erase data? Obviously the problem is worse than just battery draining.

I don't wait for the battery to drain. When my battery is a little less than half at night, I wake up to find my phone turned off with the battery run out. And all of the mentioned data erased.
I have stock rom. Should I just update my fw to 2.3.6 and see?

A likely scenario here, which also occurred to me was that when kept overnight, the phone restarts automatically and gets into a boot loop (stuck at the samsung logo, and reboots over and over) thus draining the battery of whatever charge is left. And then once you switch it back on all personal data is erased, including settings, except installed apps.
What firmware are you using? This is surprisingly a very common issue nowadays, happens to many on GB, I have not heard of this happening on froyo as yet, but you never know! I myself have given in my handset for a motherboard replacement due to this!
So the issue might not be battery drain, just keep it unattended for a while and you will see its behavior! (Or wake up in the middle of the night! )

Well till now all those facing the problem couldn't solve it even with multiple wipes/firmware installs, so best bet is the service center, insist on a MB replacement on the 2nd visit, because the 1st time they will just do a firmware flash.
Make sure you are on Indian firmware DDKP1/KP2 with no trace of root including superuser and CWM.

that's different
your issue is not a loss of data due to battery dying, it's due to a hardware malfunction. take it to sammy!
same problem with me.. i heard its from the motherboard and internal memory.. i was using xxkpm then... At night i turn on wifi to update my apps on market.. its good, everything was updated, but tomorrow morning when i woke up i found my phone dead, so i charge it and when i open it, i was surprise to see that its asking me to pick a language again.. and yeah, all my contacts are gone, the messages, and the settings.. I thought its because of some apps that is update.. so i uninstall all my apps and then factory reset. but still same things happen everytime my phone is idle for awhile.. i also tried to flash xxkpq but same thing happens.. i still have warranty but is it ok if i go to samsung center with XXKPQ? or should i flash again to a lower version like 2.2.1??
So, I don't know what happened. I didn't touch a thing on this phone, haven't changed any settings or installed any apps for weeks. However, just now, my phone has decided to start acting up in a bad way.
I'm on Paranoid Android 2.52, and I have been for many months now, with no stability issues of any kind. However, without any warning or cause on my part, something got reset. The first thing I noticed was that all of my settings reset to the default Android settings. I had to go through and change all my settings back to how I want them. Then I discovered that there's nothing I can do to get my lockscreen to work again. I have it enabled, I've tried every variation of lockscreen on this ROM, with delay, without delay, but the lockscreen just won't show.
Then I noticed that my notification bar won't display any notifications. It'll show the time, battery, Wi-Fi and other small logos. But the alarm, timer, text, e-mail, etc. notifications will not show on the bar at all. My phone will vibrate when receiving and e-mail or text, but no notification will appear.
Then I noticed that in SMS Popup, which I use, I can't un-hide the message on the popup. I have the privacy set such that I have to tap the little eye logo to display the message. But now that logo no longer responds. It will change color on press, but will not un-hide the message. All I can do is close the popup with the message unseen.
Then I noticed that my home button doesn't work. Either short- or long-press. Short-press should take me to my home screen, long-press should take me to recent apps. It does neither. My phone will vibrate when I touch the home button, but it does nothing. I've checked my settings, and they are as they should be. The button just won't do anything.
I'm sure there's many, many more issues I'm yet to discover. What on Earth happened to my phone and how do I fix this?

I've tried rebooting, turning it off, pulling the battery for a few minutes. Had no effect. And I have no idea what else to do.

Titanium just reported to me that my phone's ID somehow changed. This indicates a factory reset, but I certainly didn't do that.

Yeah, I ultimately decided that the only thing I could do is just go back to stock and work my way up to BeanStalk. I enjoyed PA for a while, but all the BeanStalk discussion piqued my interest.
Anyway, I just wish I knew what happened to cause my phone to spontaneously fail so completely. It's seriously of a case of it working before I put it in my pocket, and it being completely ruined when it came out.

Yeah. As soon as I went back to stock, everything was immediately back to normal. But, my past three phones have all lasted anywhere between 21-24 months without any problem, and then suddenly falling apart like the Blues Brothers car and becoming completely unusable overnight, just in time for me to upgrade to new phone with a discount. And, since my contract is up in a couple months, I wouldn't be shocked if my phone's about to have its end-of-term breakdown.
I'd really like to avoid the introductory prices on the S4, though... If I could keep this phone going until about June, I'd love that.

Yeah, I'll admit Scott's solely responsible for keeping my interest in this phone. A year ago, I was still on Froyo and I was getting bored with it and wanting a new phone, but I stumbled across PA somehow and thought I'd give it a shot. Three PA roms and Bean Stalk later, I'm still loving my Infuse.
The problem is that the hardware's just not holding up anymore. I'm having the famous power button issue. I'm going to try to gut my phone and clean the button myself, but beyond that, there's not a lot that can be done about it. I'd really love to dedicate the Infuse to an alarm clock/media player when I get my new phone, so I can still have something to mod. But I just don't know how I'm going to adjust to the sudden lack of customizability when I get the S4 with a stock release of Android.
So today, the Sprint Connection Optimizer (which I dont use) has randomly started to crash, especially when I turn on my phone. I switched to ART runtime yesterday but saw no problems all day, just started this morning (I suppose it could be due to ART). Anyone else having this issue? Perhaps I turned off something I shouldnt have in the application manager but I really havent touched the phone this morning.
Same here. I'm still on Dalvik and it didn't happen until I actually connected and saved a WiFi AP. Anyone else having this problem since CF-Root + Xposed?

For me, it seems to happen when it grabs a new connection. If I join a new wifi network, itll crash a few times. If I jump back to LTE, same. Back on my home wifi, crashes. Get a phone call where it goes back to LTE then back to wifi, crashes.
Pissing me off b/c I have it disabled but I cant freeze the damn app.
