Is it just me or does the transformer have serious lag when playing high quality YouTube videos full screen? Just got my tablet yesterday and that is really my only complaint so far.
Thanks
yes but not only full screen. I'm getting lag in the smaller window as well
I noticed that there was an update to flash 10.2 yesterday. In the change log it said that hardware acceleration had been added, but requires an upcoming release of Android 3. Hopefully that will cure it.

Same here. I hope they get the video bugs worked out soon. i'm getting annoyed that i cannot watch any HD video in fullscreen.

Same here. Annoying and kind of embarrassing to show it to my friend that has an ipad 2. I hope the HD video will improve as wel.
Edit:
I'm not tying to compete which device is better. I just want to have a device where I can enjoy it.
Does anybody noticed that if you leave the screen untouched for several seconds, when you touch the screen again it won't respond the first touch?
I thought I was the only one, but apparently there are more people with this problem. I have it too in both the smaller and fullscreen window. If you don't touch the device a few seconds it gets better, but there is still at some points a noticeable lag. Very annoying!

Wow just booted youtube and got the same issue. This is not a good look on the mighty transformer.
Is this using Youtube.com or the Youtube app?

Youtube.com is using the flash player, and this will be a bit stuttery - especially for HD videos. But the App should be using h264 encoded video so playback should be 'native'.
I have had some videos be a bit choppy via the app, but most play fine.
the youtube website works fine for me when viewing up to 420p, anything over that is stuttery.
I'm sure Google will announce an update to HoneyComb in the next week during Google IO

I checked the same video on youtube.com and the youtube app. Youtube app displays the video perfectly well in SD, but in HD it gets a slight lag. On youtube.com it plays well on 480p but above that it gets unwatchable.
I get just a slight stutter in the first 5 sec then smooth HD playback for me on youtube. The "HD" is lit up.

i know what you are talking about.
although its not that it wont recognize the first touch, you just have to touch it .5 ms longer and it will respond. I think its either a power saving mechanism or prevent you from accidental touch on the screen.
It bothered me at first but trust me, after about a week you wont either notice it anymore, you simply get used to it.
could you guys check this video out and see if it lag too.

Stutters on full screen, but not smaller. Used Youtube app from main screen. TF 101 32 GB. Full update.

so which is it, hardware or software that is causing it? I'm tempted to go I pad just cause their ui and multimedia is so fluid. I like androids customizability so another alternative is to see how tegra 3 tablets will perform.
No stutter for me opened in YouTube app and browser HQ button illuminated, using Uk tranny with update.

First of all this board is great! Thank you!!!
I bought two gtablets last week and already modded one with TNTlite 4.4, and the other one still with stock ROM. I was going to give one to my mom.
After I play the same video and compare side by side, I noticed the significant difference in resolutions. Tablet with stock ROM has much better resolution than modded TNT4.4. Did I mess it up when I was modding?
Browser
I did some more testing and it appears to be the issue with browser. I played the same video HD trailer of Captain America on browser youtube vs Youtube App. There is a night and day differences in two.
Youtube App - no pixelation.
Browswer Youtube - tons of pixlations.
Any advices or suggestions?
Any advice before I change my ROM from TNTlite to VEGAN? That pixelation on flash video on browser is driving me nut.
Again, it's no issue with youtube native app, and it's only happening in browser.
Try changing your browser settings to PC instead of android. Might help.

You were an ass. This is a perfectly fine question to ask after the Android 3.1 update, which has improved video playback.
I haven't tried a 1080P MKV file yet. I'll give that a try soon and see how it goes. As someone mentioned, some 1080P files do play better, but still not smoothly, so I don't have high expectations. Hopefully at least 720P MKV playback will be smooth.

And I don't really understand why people got to be dicks on this forum. If you see a post you don't like, why the hell do you stop and reply to it then? Clearly you got nothing better to do, probably take the same time to give the correct answer than say "go search". *shrug*

To elaborate more, technically you can say that you are able to play 1080p. Some files will not play, some files will play better than the others. Suffice to say that you still want to use 720p instead of 1080p. With 3.1, just about all the 720p files i throw at my tf plays very well with no discernible stuterring, with either the mobo player or the regular media player.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
3.1 seems to play nearly all 720p file flawlessly...for 1080p i think you'll need to stick with the base profile..

1080P MKV file was brutal. Lots of freezing up. A 720P MKV file played pretty well, a lot better than before. There was still just barely noticeable stuttering, but the audio seemed to stay in sync pretty well, something I had problems with before.
1080P MP4 ripped from YouTube played pretty good, but some noticeable stuttering.
This was with the MoboPlayer. So it's looking better, but 1080P MKV still not good.

there is a member here who came up with a HANDBRAKE video preset that works excellent on the tf101, if u dont mind converting your movies, which is what ive done then you can do that. If not you can use players from the market but u will have less than perfect playback some cases. I just coverted my pirates of the caribbean movies and they play great. The Handbrake thread is on the transformer forum under general, ummm yeap this forum.
Not sure if this works for you, but I think Plex is a great alternative.
There are loads of threads on this. Use the search function.

yes it's smooth but why would you want to play 1080p videos on a phone?
Can't be smooth at 1080p, only GS2 can, at the moment
Owning a GS2 also I have tried lots of 1080 and 720 and really on such a small screen you really can't tell much difference in quality.
you can't notice difference between 480p to 720p and 1080p on the phone
Of course the screen on our phone is 480p (800x480) so any higher is a bit useless

Did you try it yourself? Cause I did, Big Buck Bunny 1080p and Avatar 1080p trailer both run smooth as silk. There are video's on Youtube showing the O3D playing high profile 4.1 720p mkv and 1080p mkv which is pretty impressive in my opinion. Haven't tried playing 1080p mkv myself yet but will today.
The GS2 is an incredible phone but not the only one that can do incredible things anymore.

Right, you clearly have no idea what I was replying to so I'm not gonna bother having this discussion with you.
I have no trouble playing embedded video, playing more than two at a time like in that review does make the players choppy which could be a Froyo vs. Gingerbread issue or just a raw power issue but who would play multiple embedded video's anyway on such a small screen (or any screen for that matter)?

Hi guys!
I'm planning to buy the TF101, but I'm not sure about a couple of things.
Can it actually play 1080p videos? Or 1080p YouTube videos? Is the YouTube app streams over 1080p?
Or we must open the browser if we want to watch it in high resolution?
How many hours it usually lasts with watching videos?
Is it fine with the stock ICS, or I have to switch ROMs in order to get a decent tablet?
I would greatly appreciate an input from those who have the TF101.
If u buying new, rather get something else, ics is a hit n miss on the tf101 at the moment, and asus don't seem close to fixing it honestly
I've got one, no serious issues with mine, I enjoy it
Not sure about the video playback

It will play hd youtube(720p i think) however the playback is not great, actual image quality is pretty good but as soon as there is any sort of fast moving action it starts to skip a second here, a second there Really annoying as it is a priority for me also. The last firmware update was supposed to have fixed this issue but seems to have made little difference. Have finally got round to rooting and am now searching for a rom that has sorted the issue. Its not a bad tab apart from this though and if you can get it at the right price there really isnt much wrong with it

Yeah, that's what I notice too. I mean, the video looks stunning, but it doesn't seem to be running smoothly at all.
I ran it side by side with my iPhone 4S, and my iPhone played the video much smoother overall. I thought I was just seeing thing until it reached one part in the video where the same kid in the video raising his hand to point at the sky. The arm movement right there was noticeably unnatural in the Nexus 5, compare to my iPhone 4S's playback.
Does anyone know an app that can show you what the currently playing video's fps is?

I hope it's just some optimization problem that can be fixed with software update(s). I'd really hate to return this phone back, but it's quite a deal-breaker for someone like me who uses the phone as an on-the-go multimedia player.
Are there any alternative apps that can play HD youtube videos smoothly?

Sometimes these issues are also caused by user settings like what and how many apps or widgets running in the background, Google syncronisation interval and what apps connect to the internet etc etc.

Well, there are people like me and you who notice the "stuttering" (I wouldn't call it choppy, because still frames are just as clear as my 4S). Then, there are others that say it does not stutter even in the slightest.

Probably a good test would be download the video using for example tubemate, then play the local copy this would help determine whether network latencies are contributing to any lags or if caused by decoding the video if it occurs when local copy.
Then try hw vs Sw decoding.
Will test when I ve got time.
