[Q] Which phone to choose? - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys I've a problem with choosing the right phone
This are the phones;
windows phone 7
LG E900 Optimus 7 Black for € 259
HTC 7 Trophy Vodafone for € 299
Samsung Omnia 7 for € 349
Android
Samsung Galaxy S II for € 549
HTC Sensation for € 549
I was thinking to go for the samsung omnia 7, but the htc sensation is also very nice but is it the € 200 extra worth? Do you've any suggestions?
Thanks!

I personally would go with the Sensation, it has Dual-Core, Runs 2.3(Even though it has Sense 3.0), and I have always loved HTC build quality my N1 lasted for ever and no case the whole time i had it. Not to mention HTC has excellent customer service.

You cant go wrong with sensation or galaxy 2, galaxy 2 has better specs, and screen but I would go with sensation
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk

I'm patiently awaiting the Sensation also. However, it will have a locked bootloader similar to what's implemented on the Incredible S. There hasn't been much progress unlocking that one yet that I've read, so if flashing custom ROMs will be important to you, try the Galaxy S2. I'm sure it will have quite a following here on XDA.
Popular opinion was that the Atrix would be the bee's knees, and the bootloader is still holding up development.

Thanks for the quick replies.
So it would be better to go for the Sensation, but what about he omnia 7?
I like windows phone 7 I already worked with so i's familiar for me.
Wouldn't that be the best choice? beacause the specs are great and that for € 350

Both Androids are much better, but also more expensive! if money is not the problem I wouldn't hesitate to go for the Galaxy S II - i am going to get a Galaxy S (older one) soon and I still think it's a very good equipment (probably better than all those Windows mobile phones you mentioned)

I agree with u that of the money part but if not go for the sensation in my opinion, even if the galaxy has better specs

Out of all those choices, I'd go with the Sensation. HTC has been doing a great job in terms of hardward as far as I'm concerned. I have an EVO and I'm still thrilled with it thanks to the Fresh ROM

dual core phones i guess..

sensation. Definitely
[Sig] dId you know? If you Insert a Coin on your Desire, then it levels up to HD, Z or S :[/Sig] !!!! 10 post limit for off topic NOW!!!!

If you like WP7 mate, the Focus is the best phone you have listed. If you need a hardware keyboard, consider the LG Quantum also, which is a decent little package.

only concider Android phone is right choice

I would go with the sensation, because I really like how it looks and its alluminium case, although I prefer SGSII's screen. Also, I prefer Android to WP7.

Money isn't directly the problem because I'm working now but it's rather time.
I can buy the Omnia 7 next week, but to buy the sensation or galaxy S II I've to wait an extra 3 or 4 weeks.
What's the big difference between the sensation and galaxy S II, the galaxy S II has better specs for the money but almost everybody is telling me to buy the Sensation, why?
And thanks for the replies

Windows phones blow. I returned the quantum after 2 days!

I actually liked wp 7, it's easy to use and very fast. But I don't know anything about the build quality, is there someone who's or had a Omnia 7?

I'd go with one of the android devices. My brother hated windows mobile when he had it.

i'd second that htc sensation

Check out the development of roms for each of the phones and pick one that you can root and have a lot of capabilities of customization

Defy or Spice - MI410 (Ideos X6) - Dilema
I am looking at buying an android phone,my Usage is:
1) 30 to 40 calls a day (Incomming & outgoing put together) averaging 3 to 4 mins each = Average daily talk time = 120 Mins
2) Music/Videos/Games = 1 to 2 hrs a day
3) Internet = Googling for Info/Checking personal mails = 2 to 3 hrs a day = on GPRS/3G or free Wifi if available.
4) Occasionally editing word or excel docs, view pdf files.
4) Take photos & videos on occasions.
5) Install software from android market for navigation/utility/timepass.
Considering Defy because it is:
1) Waterprooof - I have had to replace an earlier mototola touchscreen phone because of damage due to rain/sweat.
2) Dustproof/Scratch proof/Rugged= I am not very careful with phones, & it needs to survive occasional handling by my 2 year old daughter.
3) Reliable brand & updates available in the android community
4) Available for for 15949 rs @ letsbuy with icicilb coupon code (I have never bought anything online, do i get 1200 rs off by just typing this code on the letsbuy site.)
Considering Spice MI 410 because it has got:
1) 1GHz Scorpion processor, Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon = Doc editing (word & excel) could actually work, whereas it might struggle on the TI OMAP3610 800 MHz processor on Defy
2) 4.1 inches screen vs 3.7 of the Defy = Could transalate into better browsing/video experience on the spice 410 which also has a better GPU.
3) Secondary VGA Camera For Video Calling, not available on Defy
4) 5 MP, 2592х1944 pixels, autofocus, LED flash on both defy & spice, but spice has HDMI out, DIVX & HD video recording
5) Available for for 13999 rs @ Saholic, a spice group venture & at spice hotspot stores.
Thus i am in a dilema
a) Since the mind picks defy (rugged build, reliable brand with updates & support available)
b) Heart picks Spice 410, since its got a bigger screen, better processor & appears to be ready for the future (HDMI, HD recording, Secondary video)
Please advice.

HD has no flash for camera and no keyboard.. any one can please explain my how HD is better than Xperia?
non of them have flash for camera but some do have a led for camera but that's in a different league then real flash a much lower leagure at that
xda hd is better if one want a thiner device and no keyboard and like touch 3d
I recently was in the same boat and had the same selections as you. I opted for the omnia, first one I recieved I bricked trying to flash the official uk rom update downloaded directly from samsung site. The 2nd (still going) I nearly bricked again trying the same rom flash and ended up flashing a custom rom to recover it. There are quite a few owners having problems flashing roms (official ones mainly) over at modaco.
Overall the phone is pretty much the same, speed wise, as my trinity. I was swung to it by the memory size.
The gps works fine now I've done a tweak (again from modaco) and overall its a bit better than my old trinity (camera knocks spots off htc one).
Its a bit of a pain not being able to "see" some of my favorite software properly due to the unconventional screen size.
If I had tried an experia I might before taking the plunge I might have made a different choice.

SE Xperia is a great device, i have been using it much and got it couple of months ago.
being a developer my self helped me getting the max out of this great device.
i will really never replace it with anything else.
very reliable and trustworthy, good build quality and great design.
i say SE Xperia X1
good luck in your choice.
Well what is xperia missing that HD has without the keyboard?... and the answer is *drumb tap* g-sensor... well my opinion is that if you don't need g-senor but would like a hardwarekeyboard the go for xperia.. well i wanted both features of xperia and HD, well both of the have bigger screen than Raphael but Raphael was my final choice and i do not regret it any time .. well i suggest you to go throguh some youtube videos with unboxing and user experience and check some applications both have and so forth..
My 2 cents, just MHO:
XPERIA X1 beats any current device because:
1- Beautiful blend between hightech and artwork
2- Beautiful blend between SONY and HTC
3- Beautiful WVGA 800x640 Sony screen (bye bye HTC Raphael/Touch Pro)
4- Cool metal case in two colours (aurevoir HTC diamond)
5- Useful hardware keyboard (so long HTC Touch HD)
6- Windows Mobile inside a Sony !! LOTS of apps and tweaks available (ciao iPhone)
7- The biggest ammount of RAM currently available
8- Sony Panels interface plus the abitlity to add TouchFlo3D as another panel
9- microSD card slot up to 16GMB (and 32GB soon)
10- Long lasting big battery, bigger than many others
11- Small and comfortable form factor (not as thick as Tytn or Touch Pro)
12- Etc etc etc
You get a great Phone from Sony Ericsson, a portable office from Microsoft, a Walkman from Sony and worldwide connectivity (choose from X1a or X1i) from HTC-qualcomm
What else do you want ??
thx gtrab your post helped me lot

No mate I meant about Xperia itself.. it supports 16GB now right? What I am asking is.. when new version of Xeria comes which will support 32GB, Actully 16GB also more than I need but just asking.
Does Xperia has stable version now? I saw couple of sellers who sells Xperia within $700 on Ebay. Are they stable versions?
its very simple for me, do you want a device that won't hardware fail on you within a year or not? If you want it to last more than a year then don't buy HTC (which includes experia).
EVERY HTC device I have owned has been back for at least one warranty repair. These include a Blueangel, TyTN, TyTN2 and .... actually i lied, my Touch Diamond is now in a draw - broken.
edit: Sorry, should make it clear. My 16gig Omnia, with its extra 16gig card, is working like a dream with no signs of any hardware failures. HTC, awesome specs .... crap build quality. All of this ofc, is in my experience.

Then the Omnia is NOT the choice of phone for you as a; it doesn't have a keyboard and b;its a low res. Shame, really as the low res screen has two BIG advantages - 1 its fast as f*&k and 2 it uses far less battery.
Be sure if you are going to buy the XPeria to check out DEFECTS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447211
It seems, HTC made the same mistake with the Universal. I voted for the Xperia, because of the keyboard.
Oh my days ........ that is very shocking . (Well, actually, given who make it, no its not at all)
And the case for the prosecution rests your honor.
Buy HTC manufactured devices at your peril.......

[Q] New Phone Suggestions

Hello, I am currently looking for a new phone with a new 2yr contract and I was wondering what everyone's opinions are. I am currently looking for:
Except for AT&T(Didnt like the service) any of the other Providers are fine
Physical Keyboard is Fine, (not needed).
Good GPU tests
Decent size screen
At least 2GB internal space
1GB Processor
HD Video playback
Must have Android OS !!!
Please reply with your suggestions. Thanks!
I'd suggest the HTC HD2, because you can have the best of both worlds, Android 2.2 and Windows Mobile 6.5.*, and Windows Mobile 7 will be ported to it. Don't know if it's on AT T though.
If you want an exclusive android phone though, the G2, Desire HD or Desire Z may interest you
Hmmm What do you all think of the galaxy phones and the Droid X, 2, Evo, and the G2?

[Q] Viewpad 7/Commtiva Linx n700 - Fantastic 7 inch Phone/TabletHelp needed!

WOW - This tablet is just perfect and can be bought for a very reasonable price online at Tesco's/HMV/Play/Amazon or Staples (where I got mine for £329.99 - BARGAIN!
It runs Anrdoid 2.2, is made by Foxconn (build quality is excellent!) and IMHO is the best Android device money can by for overall size/usability.
Any plans to open a dedicated forum? Any devs out there able to port Flash or Flashlite from the HTC Legend - I think this device uses the same chipset (MSM7227).
Gotta say, Angry Birds is just right on this screen - the iPad is just too large and cumbersome... At the pricepoint this is currently at, you cant afford to miss it.
I tend to agree with you. I got mine from Tesco for £299. I would also like like to know if there is a hack/app for Flash 10? I am very happy with my N700 in my opinion the best one I've had out of 4 tablets off ebay.
Sent from my Commtiva-N700 using XDA App
Just wondering where I can get one in the U.S.

[Q] Which Phone should I get??

Hi, I hve finally decide to go back to PDA/Smartphone and want to know which I should get. I am a veteran in the rom flashing/cooking era of the wizard and vario's and htc touch pro 2. I am after finding out which is the best , as in most powerful and able to run everything smoothly whether it be android or Win7. I prefer a physical keyboard , but if screen good enough will use on screen one.
Thanks for your time/thoughts peeps!!
P.s coming of an Iphone 4. (Boo hiss I know...lol).
Desire Z (w/ HW Keyboard), iPhone 4 or HTC HD7...
This depends on you. All those phones are great. You need to check which one fits your style. We can't do this for you.
I suggest you wait until the newer Q1 2011 android phones come out, where do you live and what carriers are in your area?
Thanks for the replys. I am in UK on o2 and have about £400 for new phone.
need a phone quite quickly so am after the best nowish. Can a desire z be flashed with roms etc and HD7?
HD7 looks quite big and desire z only has 800mhz cpu as far as I can see . Is this fast enough.?
Thanks.

hey guys help me with ur views and suggestions.
Spice MI-410 (Rebranded Huawei IDEOS U9000 X6) - 13K -- Nothing beats this for value for money - 4.1" 800x480 Screen, Qualcomm MSM8255, Adreno 205GPU, 5MP Cam with Flash, 512MB RAM.
HTC Desire (Not S / HD) - 15-16K
Motorola Defy - 15K
If you are ready to consider 'mid range' devices, the range of choices grows a lot. You can then include Galaxy Ace, Wildfire S, ChaCha, Dell XCD35, Huawei U8800 X5. But, if I were to buy a phone today at 15K, I would pick one from the 1st 3. (Inclining more and more to the Spice, but, sadly, there's no section for it at XDA - Yet)

thanks,
is spice (Huawei IDEOS U9000 X6) reliable in terms of hardware and stuff ? i'm not able to get desire for 15-16k (dealers in delhi are quoting around 20k !!!!). i checked out defy but it seems to lag especially while scrolling up and down the screen...
was in dilemma so posted here for help.
The X6 should be reliable, I don't see why not. Besides, it is backed by the normal manufacturer warranty.
Desire was on stock at Flipkart.com for 16.5K but is unfortunately not in stock ATM.
Saholic.com lists the Desire as in Stock though at 15.5K, and, since they are a Spice initiative, the MI-410 is also available exclusively through them online (For 14K - as I stated above). Only thing - You'll have to be comfortable buying a phone online.
For the Defy, I have tested it quite a lot(A friend of mine has it), and, frankly, I haven't felt any lag at all. Then again, maybe its because I have a Wildfire, and everything other than it will feel fast.
Good Luck
