Hi people,
This is my first post.
I am looking to purchase a 7" - 8" android tablet for my wife.
I was told that the people in xda - developers know the most about the android so that i why I am posting this question.
I plan on using it for a ereader... but would use it for games, video, etc...
I am not an apple fan, and want the android. I download alot of stuff and thought an android could handle any format I shoot at it, like pdf, txt, etc...
What's your advice? AND THANKS!!!
p.s.
even if you point me to another thread that discusses the best android to buy, that would be great.
Get a Barnes and Noble Nook color e-reader.
Root it and you can transforms it into an affordable Android tablet

Thanks... THAT'S what I'm talking about. Really don't want to shell out to much $$$$
and I am a BIG pc downloader... use mostly IRC.
I will start to research this idea. Is there a thread dedicated to this?
Thanks again.

So I looked into it. It is cool. BUT IT'S $249!!! and for $299 you can get the ...
eLocity A7 Touchscreen 7-Inch Android 2.2 Tablet , hast HDMI, USB, nvideo GPU, dual processor.
Am I missing something?
No your not missing anything the nook color is a dedicated e reader that is meant for the average to low level using how only WA TS to read books......for you I would go and get a better suited tablet with more options and functions nook is the best dedicated. Ereader out but not even close in being a top android tablet

The nook. Got a recovery
S.I. 77
Now this may be expensive, but I recommend the Samsung Galaxy Tab...I mean it lets you surf the net, games, android market, etc.
...But thats just me.
If you want an e-reader, get the Nook Color, if you want a tablet, wait for Honeycomb.

I think I will wait for the honeycomb! Thanks...
I just started doing research. Don't understand the android market place? I would just search for cracked software to install... am I missing something?
It would be used primary as an ereader, she now has the itouch... but it is a little to small. But it will also be used for movies (on plans), reading PDF's, and all other formats. And I will use it for games...lol.
She has dozens of apps on her itouch... I am sure she will download all kinds of stuff for the android.
advice on android tablet
Hi!
For me,
the best tablets on the market are :
- Viewsonic viewpad gtablet 10.1" (android 2.2, capacitive multitouch, 1GHz CPU,512Mo RAM, USB, 16GB,Camera, G-sensor, supports :wav,wma,mp3...;avi,divx,xvid,wmv,rmvb,mkv,mp2,x264,x263; epub,pdf,...)
At OfficeDepot: $379.99
-Samsung GAlaxy Tab(Android 2.2, capacitive multitouch, 1GHz, 512 RAM, front camera, rear camera,G-Sensor, supports all the formats above).Price varies depending on the Carrier($400 to @560).
But , If you really want a very good tablet you might as well wait 6months to the newer versions with android 3.0 honeycomb(OS specially designed for tablets).
Good luck on your new tablet!
The Notion Ink Adam is another device which I think is extremely good - it uses a Pixel QI screen which makes it especially good as an E-Reader. Also it uses a specialised version of Android which makes Android amazing on it. However it is a bit expensive at $550.
I have been very happy with my Archos 70. It comes with a nice eReader and with the Google Market installed, I have the Amazon Kindle app. It is a little hard to find right now, $275 is the retail, which is what I waited for and got direct from Amazon. Although my wife picks it up to read and ends up playing Angry Birds...
I was under the impression Archos had their own market software and thus it made a bit of problems getting the real Market on it. I don´t own one though so I might be mistaken. As for Adam (Notion Ink´s device) yea theres reviews and such but IIRC Notion Ink has pushed Adam back, the pre-oder people aren´t getting their devices because Notion Ink can´t handle the demand or something it´s pushed back for one reason or another (from androidtablets.net) Android 3.0 aka Honeycomb is Android (re)designed for Tablets. My advice wait for the release of Android 3.0 and the explosion of new devices that are sure to follow in it´s wake. This, my guess is, will bring competition and make for a large selection and maybe price wars which is always good for the end users
Nook Color. End of lol.

....apad...epad...lol hope that's more helpful. There's a variety of specs and sizes.
I've recently purchased the Amazon Kindle and it has completely replaced books for me. The e-ink technology doesn't bother your eyes so you can use the device for what its for.
Honeycomb in Eken
I have heard (and read) that Honeycomb is already released.
My questions:
1. How can I have it?
2. How to install it in a Eken tablet?
Thanks for help.
"NOOB, my wife want's a ereader..."
made me LOOL
Cheap alternative
How about Apad , Irobot?
Eken M009s - Android 2.2, 7" Resistive LCD, WiFi, WM8650 300~800Mhz, Oficial Market after updated firmware - 88.99$
Can't beat that price
My brother in law is in China and I was wondering if anybody knows of a good android tablet available there (bootleg or knockoff) that I could have him bring back to me. Maybe something that at some point would run honeycomb? Tegra 2? Above all though I want one that there is active development for. I'm loving cm7 on my nook color. I am a sucker for flashing. Thanx guys.
How about Lenovo Lepad? The truth is I don't really know,my buddy bought a nook color and loved it.I myself love my dell streak.

Hi everyone,
I'm actually looking for a 7 inch tablet to have a real portable device aside my Transformer. I was surfing the web a bit to find one and I was surprised to see that there are very few 7 inch tablets out there
The Nexus 7 will not be available in my country before october et november and the Iconia A110 will not be sold here at all...
So my question is : Is it still worth buying a gtab 2.0 ? I can have one for 259 € (16Gb Wifi only) at my reseller but I'm wondering if it will fit my needs... ? Mostly web browsing, ebooks reading, music and a bit of gaming (android games and emulators).
Is it comfortable to read on it with the 1024*600 resolution ? Is the browsing experience good enough ?
Thanks in advance for your advices

Yep, will do all those things without any problems I installed the firefox nightly and its pretty decent for web browsing. Read a few books on it and I dont personally have any issues with it at all.
If you cant hold out till the Nexus 7 then this is probably your best bet. Although honestly for your needs, might be worth holding out for it.
I use Moon+ for ereading and Chrome for the browser. Love it.

The only place you may have issues is that some games aren't compatible with the device stock. I use it for reading, web browsing, and twitter, and have no issues at all with any of them.
So far I'm finding the tap 2 7" fits my needs just fine. Still seams like a good buy for the price.

for sure go for it.it is handy.browsing is smooth use firefox or chrome.ebook reading will also be a good experience use quickoffice, moon reader, ezreader or polaris.
And even the games like shadowgun works like charm so your 3rd criteria is also staisfied so go for it...
I agree with them too.It is a very nice little tab,of course there will be better, like anything else in life. I find it pretty complete, and like Droidlover123 is saying very useful, though it comes with a spotty wifi for some of us,but I also recommend it.
Go ahead and get this baby, besides that microsd cards are dirt cheap so you can upgrade in a heartbeat. You will have everything in one spot. :good:
Thank you all for your advices :good:
I am still hesitating as I just saw some Nexus 7 tablets for sale on ebay for 300$...
Big dilemma
Up to you I'm not sorry I got the SGT2_7. It's fast n smooth once you root and uninstall the bloatware.

Same. Guy at best buy also told me that the nexus 7 only does portrait mode. Not sure if that's true or not

The reason i have not updated yet. May update then when im home go to cm9
I think I am getting used to it,I updated and it is smoother and snappier now.As for the wifi I am having the same glitches I had before and not everyday.
One more thing, since I purchased the case it seems to work better because I don't cover with my hand as much as I used to,so at this point I would recommend the purchase and the update.Love this baby.
Looking to get a tablet for my girlfriend so we can do skype video calls when I am away. Want honeycomb or ics. Cheapo non brand tablets prefered since brands tend to be too much, like under $100 ideal.

I recently purchased an irulu brand tablet from ebay. Its basically the same model as the Eken T02.
Construction is what you would expect from a $90 tablet. The stock android 4.0 os is decent but lacks any type of cpu scaling. I installed CM9 and its been running great (with the exception of the camera)
Not sure about skype but I would say its a decent tablet for the money.
Nexus 7?
Its just a little bit cosltier thn your range...

Hey guys
I'm from outside the US and looking for a nice tablet for under $200 (yay 3rd-world-country currency restrictions ). Now, I've had an old HTC Magic, then a Motorola Defy and now a ZTE V970M. They're all great phones, with lots of development and nice features, and I'm looking for a tablet that I can get from Amazon with the same or similar features.
Basically, I'm looking for this:
A tablet that is small (7" is enough, I wouldn't mind 10" though) with a capacitive screen (or responsive enough, anyways) with some development other than the stock ROM and Android 4.0+, since I love to make ROMs for android devices. Also, I'm planning to use it to connect it to HDMI TVs, so an HDMI output would be a big bonus. I would also try to use it as a laptop so allowing connectivity to any of those case-with-keyboard things (through bluetooth or USB) is a need. I don't care much for battery life, as long as it can be rooted I can work my way around to make it save battery like hell
Here are the options I've looked at:
Around 180$ & 168$ respectively: Galaxy Tab 2 ( http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1368472318&sr=1-1 ) and Galaxy Tab Plus ( http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...f=sr_1_19?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1368472318&sr=1-19 ) but they don't have HDMI output, not even with an external converter, I was wondering if that's true?
119$: The Coby MID7065-8 ( http://www.amazon.com/Coby-7-Inch-A...ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1368472318&sr=1-4 ) looks good but... it's Coby :/ and also, it doesn't seem to have a CyanogenMod-compatible CPU, and I don't wanna be locked to ICS forever.
165$: The Acer Iconia looks *awesome* ( http://www.amazon.com/Acer-A500-10S...f=sr_1_22?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1368472318&sr=1-22 ) but it's Android 3.0, is it a good buy if I can upgrade it to CM 10 or a stock 4.0-4.1-4.2 ?
174$: This Galaxy Tab SCH-i800 looks weird, is it any good? ( http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...f=sr_1_50?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1368472705&sr=1-50 )
104$!!!: This SANEI looks awesome too ( http://www.amazon.com/Android-Scree...f=sr_1_71?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1368472813&sr=1-71 ) but I wonder if I can upgrade it to more than ICS/JB ? it has a Cortex A9 and I've heard there's some compatible CM around for Cortex chips, so would it be a good buy?
$199: The Kindle Fire HD seems like a good $199 option ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1555100222&pf_rd_i=507846 ) BUUUUUT... it's a reader, and I've had experiences with the B&N Nook Simple Touch that I don't wanna repeat, such as having a very locked firmware and not having all of the working features if I upgrade to CM or something similar :/
Any tips guys? I really need the advice, as I need to make a choice by tomorrow maximum
Thanks in advance!

Yeah but the Nexus 7 is from swappa actually I have to remove that option XD since it doesn't fit my tight time requirements
What about the iconia A500 though? I've seen it has better screen resolution, Tegra 2 and such, plus JB 4.2 judging by the subforum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1136
