Hey guys, just got my G2x a few days ago and I love it, but Facebook has been giving me some serious problems with authentication.
Upon initial launch of the app, it asks for my credentials, which I supply, but then almost immediately a gray popup dialog looks like this:
Code:
/[U]![/U]\ Facebook sign-in
Please re-enter your Facebook password.
Username
(my email)
Password
(password entry field)
[ Sign in ] [ Logout ]
(Sorry, I don't have a screen capture app installed, but I doubt I'm the only one having an issue.)
I enter my password and I get a message saying "Facebook authentication succeeded". But then almost immediately after the message disappears, I'm prompted to re-enter my password again into the same popup dialogue.
Suggestions? Solutions? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: Also shows a very quick popup dialogue about "Session does not match the current stored session."
My Facebook works perfectly. Maybe try reinstalling it or doing a hard reset. Are you trying to connect some kind of weird way?
Btw, holding home and pressing power takes a screenshot.

Have you updated Facebook's app? The one that came on this phone did have some bugs. I have had zero issues though.
See, the weirdest thing is that my device did not have Facebook preloaded on it. I had to download from the Market. It's up-to-date too. Version 1.5.4
I like on how the G2X is a pure Google phone (besides a few preinstalled T-Mobile apps) but I'm really lost about the Facebook issue.
Mine also did not have Facebook or Twitter preloaded

You could try to uninstall and reinstall the app.

Excellent suggestions guys, but I tried it already. Should I unroot and try a hard reset?
Oh man. It's getting a bit out of hand. I was able to take screens and I'll try to upload them ASAP. The only option is to remain signed out of the app.
Major bummer...
Excellent news guys. I solved my own issue. It seems like the mobile app doesn't play nice with HTTPS (secure browsing) if you have it enabled on the Facebook website. After disabling HTTPS on the full Facebook website under Account Settings, I was able to log in and stay logged in without an issue.
Hazzah! I even called T-Mobile to get help and wound up solving the issue while being on the phone with them and now (thanks to me) they have documentation about the issue and how to solve it!

I'm having the same problem, but it only happens when I try to view my own profile. I've reflashed and formatted - still no luck. Can anyone help?
same problem out of no were..tried everything with no luck
After doing some research it appears the issue is FB itself. All Android related FB apps are having the same issue.
Add me to the list. Everything was fine until the latest update.
I've found the error. It's not with FB. It's with the feed. Sometimes, there are things in your feed the JSON cannot read. That creates the error. I uploaded a youtube video and was constantly getting this error. I logged into FB from a desktop and deleted the post and now it works perfectly. Apparently, there are some things in the feed that aren't read correctly - creating the error. Hope this helps!

I'm actually surprised I was somewhat right about this issue in another thread in which I tried to answer this question. Here's my reply
kbeeveer46 said:
I've seen this every once in a while and my guess is that there is something weird in your feed and when Facebook pulls that data from their database to your Facebook app using JSON that there is a weird character or something that's making the JSON corrupt. Once that item in your feed that's causing it to be corrupt is removed manually on the facebook site or automatically (items fall of your feed over time) the error will go away.

^^^ I find this to be correct ^^^
When someone posts something in the newsfeed that the droid facebook app doesn't like, then the app will give that error. After more people post in the newsfeed and the culprit post is weeded out, then it goes back to working. Same will go for looking at your friends profiles, or even at your own profile if someone posts something the app does not like.
Also, I get the same problem with Bloo, but Bloo does not state an error has occurred. It will just fail to load the feed, or profile, etc...
Wanted to also add in that this is a universal problem... meaning iPhone and WM users are also having facebook app failures do to something facebook has done on their end.
android FB
facebook on android is terrible iphone FB is far better (i hate iPhone, not a fan boy) hell even blackberry FB is better besides the contact sync the app is almost useless over 50% of the time
(Not sure if this is the correct sub-forum to ask, but here goes)
Has there been a fix for the old "Starting Download" issue on the Android Market? I still can't download anything from it. I know that resetting my phone will work (for a while), but it's not an option right now. Any help?
P.S. I've searched the forum as well and was not able to find a concrete answer.
I was told that starting Google Talk should make sure you're logged in to Google's server, which is (supposedly) what causes that problem.

That issue has haunted me for a while - I get a cold sweat anytime a download start takes longer than usual.
I personally don't believe it's an issue with your device (as I've seen some argue it to be), rather it's with your gmail account. When a factory reset didn't fix my problem, I went to a tmobile store where my buddy works, and we put my sim card into every android device he had (mt3g, mts, garmin, and one other I can't remember), only to find that none would allow me to download.
For me the workaround I'm currently using is to set up the device with another gmail account newly created for the purpose of being able to download apps, then set up my "real" gmail (the one I actually use) to sync my contacts and calendar. The only problem is that I can't use my real gmail on gchat, since that only signs into the primary account you used when setting up the device. I don't use gchat much on my phone anyway, so it wasn't that big of a deal.
I suppose it's possible my phone corrupted my account somehow, but I had deleted caches, updates, and anything else I'd heard had worked for others, but to no avail. If you get to the bottom of the problem, be sure to let me know.
Good luck!

Hi! Thanks for the tip but as it turns out - I can't even add another account It always produce an error saying "can't establish connection". Any idea why this is the case?
The "Starting Download" issue for me, was unfixable and related to my google account. I created a new one and it worked flawlessly.

Hmm...that sounds like a connectivity issue and not a problem with the device. I'd say reboot your phone and try again.
Just to be clear, I created a new gmail address and used that during the initial setup of the phone (after a factory reset of course), then went to settings> accounts and sync> select add account and entered the old gmail I've used forever (which is why just ditching it and using the new one wasn't an option - I didn't want to bother notifying everyone I had a new email).
You'll see that you only have the option to sync contacts and gmail with a secondary gmail address - not calendar. To get around this (since my old gmail is the calendar I want to sync), set up the new gmail to share calendars w/ the old one. Once that's done, you'll see in your calendar app settings on the phone the option to sync the old gmail calendar and not the new one.
Hope that made sense! It's really not difficult to do - just annoying that it has to be done at all. I wish someone would figure out why some gmail accounts get stuck at starting download. What a pain.
I had this problem for awhile, but it was because I was task killing Google Talk. When I disabled the task killer it worked fine.
I read a few comments on the help community in the market to go to applications, manage apps, select the market then uninstall updates. This worked for a while but very intermittent. Worth a go though

I generally just wait, I believe it's a server issue...I eventually get the download but, yeah, I wait and then go back to the store and attempt to start the download again...and that seems to work.

Yes downloading from the market is related to the Google Talk app. I once deleted it from /system and it did the same thing.

After two weeks with my Focus, I'm obviously loving it. Upgrading from the Tilt has brought new meaning to my life.
Anyway, I've had enough little problems come up that I thought I'd try and get some questions answered by those smarter than I!
Integrated Facebook: Ever since the first day, I've been having issues with my Facebook account. Specifically, under Settings>email & accounts, the Facebook account says "Attention Required." Clicking on the account brings up an error popup that says "Not updated/We're having a problem connecting. Try again later./Last tried 8 hours ago/Error code: 83CF3104." Previously it gave error code "85FB5300." Here's a useless thread I started at MS Answers: http://social.answers.microsoft.com...266a6d0/#53db5744-b48c-4af8-bad5-9fe0fe95f61c It does manage to update FB from time to time, but it's wildly inconsistent.
This isn't that big a deal, but when I go to Facebook.com and login using IE on the phone, I get the "pocket version" which doesn't have any content. "Mobile version" shows up as a link on the page, but nothing is clickable. No biggie since I have the app and integration, just annoying.
IHeartRadio seems to lockup every time I use it. When I navigate away from it and then want to go back, it tries to start, shows the logo, then backs out.
My second most unstable app is Marketplace itself! It behaves exactly the same as above.
Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!
EDIT: Adding #5: Everyone says that I should be able to see an icon to find people on my exchange server, but I haven't been able to ever find it. I create a new email from my Outlook account, then click the "To" field to bring up my address book, but there is no link to my exchange directory. Am I doing something wrong?

I get "search exchange directory" buttons both in email and the people hub. In email, start typing the name of the person you're looking for, and the last entry in the list you get will be the exchange directory. Similarily, using search in the people hub will have exchange as the last possible button.

No... if you have the SSL option enabled on your Facebook account, not on your phone, the people hub will not update.
Seems to be an issue with the Focus as other WP7 users have not seen this issue,
I've looked every where I can in the phone and cannot see where the settings are that control the Facebook feed.
Log into Facebook via your web browser and disable the SSL setting under your security options.
For anyone still suffering this problem, I found a solution:
SOLUTION (from http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...83cf0108/4c4c7887-2b8b-4a83-b816-bf26e265fe17)
I went through my People Hub, opening every contact that had no picture to see what account they were in. Most of them were contacts from my Live account, but ONE was a Facebook contact. (Per the thread above, Facebook connection problems can be caused by a friends' corrupt profile picture.) I went to her profile online (where the picture showed up fine) and unfriended her. I had to wait several hours for her to disappear from my People Hub, but once she did I immediately went to Settings>Email & Accounts and, for the first time ever, saw the Facebook account with no error message!
As I said, I have been suffering this error message since day 1, although I've seen at least 4 distinct error codes (85FB4400, 85FB5300, 83CF3104, 83CF0108). I tried deleting and restoring the Facebook account, deleting and restoring the Facebook app, changing my Facebook password, logging out of Facebook on my PC, all to no avail. I never performed a factory reset, because I've installed all of my apps from the Marketplace (not Zune), and was not eager to hunt them all down again (please tell me this is another WP7 bug that is being fixed).
Hope this helps others! I've refreinded her and she's changed her profile pic in the last few weeks, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I had the problem with facebook too a few months back. Turned out to be one profile picture that appeared as a red x. Unfriended and the error went away for me too.
Yeah, re-adding her as a friend and the problem is back. Hoping she changes her pic soon.

I added the GMail account through Google option (haven't tried the POP and IMAP).
It syncs fine, but it doesn't do a server search. Whenever I try it, it returns an error saying that it can't connect to the network.
Anyone knows how to fix it?
P.S. And how come there is not even an option to do server search for Hotmail?
Additional data:
- I'm using Samsung Focus with Mango
- device is unlocked, but branded to AT&T (not sure if it has anything to do with Gmail)
- tried both on 3G and WiFi
Thanks!

I have the same problem. It was present in 7712 and still is in the retail release of 7720. I also have a Samsung Focus, but I doubt that is the cause. I'm considering deleting the Google account from the phone and adding it back, but I hate to have to relink all of the contacts whose names are different from Facebook. Considering how Google has blocked non-primary calendars for Windows Phone and their event/invitation implementation is somewhat broken with Windows Phone, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that server search is also a broken feature, whether intentional or not. Has anyone had any success re-creating the Google account on the phone?

this is seriously annoying
I guess gmail wants us to go android, but I won't. I'm going to add another email account and suffer through. Fortunately for me I don't have a lot of important contacts with gmail.
I reported this to Microsoft a few weeks ago, and they are aware of the issue. I'm thinking it must be on Google's side. When labels come to Hotmail, I may just switch over entirely.
Running Stock Rom (2.3.6 Rooted)
I've been using my Yahoo account on the stock EMail app since day one of having this phone. I've had no issues until a few hours ago.
"!" in a yellow triangle on my notification bar pops up saying, "Unable to Login/Login Failed." Sorry, can't remember the exact message.
I tried deleting the account and re-adding it, to no avail. I can login to my account via my computer and the actual Yahoo! Mail app.
But I do like the ability to have access to all my email accounts in one app.
Thanks,
DK
I answered this for someone else a week or two ago. There is no fixing it. I had this happen to me and i worked on it non stop for a day to get it fixed. I got so pissed i called Motorola. I usually never call about anything, i avoid doing that. Motorola don't even know how to fix it. You have to set up your Yahoo account with the default mail app manually. Google the settings for Yahoo pop mail. I don't know them off the top of my head plus mine is a att.net account that runs through Yahoo so it's probably different.
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium
Just a shot in the dark here. Sometimes they change the email settings. Like server settings etc. Find out from Yahoo what your settings should be for your phone. If nothing you've done has changed this could be the issue. This happened to me with ATT about a month ago.
The End.
Need to setup manually both incoming and outgoing servers.
Or you can try K9-mail.
Always good to know...thanks for the replies.
I'll just go with the Yahoo!Mail app. It's really not a bad app anymore (used to be super slow).

Back when the phone first came out I got the app for about an hour or so.
It was extremely slow and laggy. Haven't noticed any of that this time around.
Snappy, updates quickly, and has all the options (unlike the stock app).
These are the settings i use with built in email app.
Go to manual setup > IMAP account and change to these settings....
