I tried searching the boards but didn't find anything.
Also, I know it's off topic but I'm going to help my friend root his Desire HD and flash Cyanogen to it. The website says it supports the Desire but not the Desire HD. Are they basically the same thing? Can I use unrEVOked to root it?
Thanks in advance.
I wouldn't count on it.
Visionary is used on the DHD.
Root & S-off for DHD
Took me less than 10 seconds to find that. Maybe your searcher is broken?

Thanks man. I had searched about unrEVOked for the TB but didn't search about rooting the Desire HD. My bad. Thanks again!

No easy roots for the TB since it requires a downgrade RUU just to get S-OFF.
My search seems to be working...

I have looked through various threads and forums but i couldn't find anything that would help me with my issues. I recently bought a htc inspire and after a couple of days my friend convinced me to root it. I followed the steps using this [DEV][GUI][RC2][GPL][3-21-2011] HTC Inspire 4G Simple One Click - xda-developers root. All was going well till i powered it up,after following the specific examples shown in the video and directions. I had no superuser app and my "root access was denied" and i have no sound (i know it says that you have to flash that). However i did get S-on to change to S-off. I tried to root it one more time with the same process and didnt work out again i opened terminal emulator and typed /data/local/temp/rage but got "not found". Could someone please assist me into how to complete the root and get sound. Thank you very much!!
Try and use the hack kit.

I'm in the same simple situation u r..
From the way i see it now, we need to BOOT with the XTC CLIP to make the DS S-Off
Then u should root it with SUPERONECLICK.. search on the forum ..
Finally, install any ROM u would like in ROM MANGER .. (CayanogenMod / CoreDroid..)
Hope i helped
p.s.
I'm searching a different way to S-Off The Device .. so if u find another way.. pls let me know

You're right in saying that the only way to root on DSS is currently XTCclip.
But as for ROMs the only ones you'd be able to instal (except official ones) are the customs that you'll find in the android development section of this forum (although I don't believe that any are available through ROM manager).
there are four or five different cooks.....to choose from, but the number has doubled in the last week alone so things are certainly looking up.

would i be correct in saying that once i s-off'd my phone and then rooted it, i would be able to uninstall the apps installed by my telco?
i'm not opposed to using the rom installed by my telco, it seems fast enough. i only want to uninstall their stupid bloody apps (which aren't actually apps, but rather links to their website).
Yes, you are right

Can you root using Gingerbreak ? Cuz i read that you need to flash an unsecured boot.img to make SuperOneClick work. What's the difference?
excellent.
i might look into buying myself an xtc clip.
unless a software method comes up soon.

yeah, i'll probably have a look around but they're not that expensive.
i could probably then re-sell it and make my money back.
@shrome
Yes u can use Gingerbreak. That's how I rooted mine since superoneclick wouldn't work. You'll get an error message which u can ignore and then just reboot. Greetz
Edit: device still needs to be s-off to do so...

Yeah, i know about the S-OFF part, I'l wait for 2-3 weeks, then use the XTC Clip. If gingerbreak is usable, why is there so much fuss about superoneclick?? There must be some cons......do you know any? Anyway, thanks !!!
Edit: i read somewhere that gingerbreak wipes the data on ur SD card. Is that true?

I used gingerbreak 1.2 to root after getting s-off and it has done nothing at all to damage my sd-card
It made the card un-mountable when you tried to temp root with out s-off, but that was easy fixed with a battery out reboot

Did you format your SD card or did it have data? Cuz the gingerbreak page says it's better to have a formatted one, but i don't wanna format, cuz there's a lot of data on it.

copy the data from the card to your computer first.
then after you've run gingerbreak, copy the data back.
or, go buy another sdcard. they're very cheap.
Please forgive me as I am definitely a complete newbie here. I am trying to root my DS so that I can hopefully run a Bluetooth RSAP app to link my car phone system. I have sent the phone away and had it made S-OFF and I have tried to download Gingerbreak from downloads it says "cannot open file" what am I doing wrong.

I've been thinking the same, also the gold card that the xtc clip makes worked in my old desire to flash ruu's that I couldn't previously flash no matter how many times I tried to make one,so maybe a copy of the card would work for all HTC's?

Hi there everybody,
I'm probably in the wrong section of the forum, and my questions are nubby I know, but I get confused.
My Desire S is S-ON, and I would like to get is S-OFF. Is this possible, because it is needed to be able to root the phone right?
And an offtopic question, what is a flash-able app, and what is the difference with a normal custom .apk which can be installed from the sd card.
Thanks in advance

so far, no one ever mention about developing one. so, you might need to wait. if you can't wait, just get someone with XTC clip to do it for ya...

It seems that HTC reverse its decision to block everything on the latest versions, after the petition that circulated on the net, requesting the release.
See article below:

Actually, no.
From the same article:
"In short: custom ROMs, kernels, and recoveries (like ClockworkMod) may never come to the EVO 3D, barring some kind of epic HTC screw-up."
Hello!
Just wondering what the best way to gain root only is on my Desire S. Would it be SuperOneClick or Gingerbreak? That is, no custom ROMS or recovery, just root so I can run Titanium Backup and a couple of other root-only apps.
My Firmware info:
Baseband: 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M
Build: 1.47.161.2 CL78999
HBoot: 0.98.0002
Radio: 0-3805.06.02.03_M
If it matters, I'm on a Vodafone UK branded model.
Oh, and like anything else, to reverse root, it'd just be to delete all instances of su and busybox on the file system?
Thanks a lot
Edit: Whoops! Forgot my disclaimer - I'm not a noob, but I'm not entirely sure what the best method is with the latest firmware without making any 'irreversible' changes to the bootloader.
You can run either of them. I used gingerbreak because of its simplicity. Just an apk which you install and run.
Also are you s-on or s-off?
Im pretty sure you can unroot using those two methods. But double check if you want.

I'm S-ON. I'm willing to make it S-OFF if necessary - but I'll take a look at Gingerbreak. (Which I think will only give me Temp Root, which will be fine as I only want to back up a couple of apps!)
Thanks!
Well , I will say you should go with Superoneclick , As it has 99.9% success rate, where as Gingerbreak is at work everytime. I rooted my DS with SuperOneClick. Well if u r going with gingerbreak then Good Luck..
The only reason i didnt recommend superoneclick is because when i rooted my phone superoneclick wasnt available for desire s so i didnt want to recommend it but obviously if your saying its better than gingerbreak then it probably is. Plus gingerbreak worked first time for me. I think when you s-off it should give you permanent root

Both SuperOneClick and Gingerbreak didn't work, so I ended up using Revolutionary.io.
Seems to have worked well, even though I've voided all warranty (and the phone is only 3 days old!).

It's good practice to update this thread title with a prefix of [SOLVED] now that the issue is resolved, you can do this by editing post #1 and then clicking the Advanced edit button.
BTW, FYI, you can switch between hboot version by the following scheme:

Nope. I was S-ON, didn't really want to make myself S-OFF, but I did anyway.
I'm not really sure where to post with the phone I have. I purchased a HTC Hero S and I can't seem to find the right forum for it. I found other HTC Hero forums, but the image for the phone doesn't match the one I've got.
My phone is quite similar to the HTC Evo, with a few differences in hardware. I'm interested in gaining root access, would following the guides there work out for me?
Thanks!
I Don't think there's any Support for the Hero S...
So there's no gaining root access on it for now?

I'll post a link to get the z4root all if you wanna try it?
