Need help with rooting - HTC Inspire 4G

I have looked through various threads and forums but i couldn't find anything that would help me with my issues. I recently bought a htc inspire and after a couple of days my friend convinced me to root it. I followed the steps using this [DEV][GUI][RC2][GPL][3-21-2011] HTC Inspire 4G Simple One Click - xda-developers root. All was going well till i powered it up,after following the specific examples shown in the video and directions. I had no superuser app and my "root access was denied" and i have no sound (i know it says that you have to flash that). However i did get S-on to change to S-off. I tried to root it one more time with the same process and didnt work out again i opened terminal emulator and typed /data/local/temp/rage but got "not found". Could someone please assist me into how to complete the root and get sound. Thank you very much!!

Try and use the hack kit.

[Q] Is it worth it? & noob proof guide?

Is it really worth getting s-off and root on my Sensation?
What are the main advantages/disadvantages? & is there a simple way to go back to stock if my phone breaks and i need to send it to get fixed.
Also can someone link me to a noob proof guide to S-OFF and Root?
I've been looking through the development section, and there are to many guides to choose from.
Alpharev is working on a noob proof way to s-off the sensation. There is no eta for now. Should be released in a couple of weeks. You could wait for that.

By "noob proof" i mean the easiest way to do it all.
I've done things with like flashing software on psps, ipods, etc before.
HTC's official unlock process should be as easy as it gets, and due sometime this month unless it's slipped back.
The stock Sensation is a pretty solid phone though. So whether it's worth unlocking depends in part on whether you're happy with your experience using it, or are tempted by features offered by custom ROMs.
I unlocked mine as soon as I could. But then for me being able to tinker around with custom ROMs is part of the appeal of Android.
www.Revoluitionary.io
Follow the the instructions, its as easy as pie.Easier than CFW and Pandora battery on psp so you should be fine, Revolutionary is well easy just download for your OS fill in the boxes then run the .bat script and enter your beta key. Also choose the option to install recovery....Download the rom you want to try, flash through recovery and let it boot

CWM install problem!

Hi I'm new here, been a iPhone user for years, and jailbroke every iPhone I had. I'm no expert but I can manage my way around most computers or gadgets. However I downloaded revolutionary and initiated it, but when it tried to install CWM it crashed my question is how do I get clockworkmod recovery on my phone now!? As it won't let me re-do the revolutionary app, just says your phone is not supported! The s-off has worked just not sure where to go from here? To get my phone rooted and get CWM on my phone! Any help would be much appreciated!

Get ADB working for your computer then from there flash CWM through fastboot if you have any questions from there use the search bar or google.
G2X and Sensation 4G I love both

Yes you can, or install a custom rom, they are faster and more optimized.

[SOLVED] Best way to Root only

Hello!
Just wondering what the best way to gain root only is on my Desire S. Would it be SuperOneClick or Gingerbreak? That is, no custom ROMS or recovery, just root so I can run Titanium Backup and a couple of other root-only apps.
My Firmware info:
Baseband: 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M
Build: 1.47.161.2 CL78999
HBoot: 0.98.0002
Radio: 0-3805.06.02.03_M
If it matters, I'm on a Vodafone UK branded model.
Oh, and like anything else, to reverse root, it'd just be to delete all instances of su and busybox on the file system?
Thanks a lot
Edit: Whoops! Forgot my disclaimer - I'm not a noob, but I'm not entirely sure what the best method is with the latest firmware without making any 'irreversible' changes to the bootloader.
You can run either of them. I used gingerbreak because of its simplicity. Just an apk which you install and run.
Also are you s-on or s-off?
Im pretty sure you can unroot using those two methods. But double check if you want.

I'm S-ON. I'm willing to make it S-OFF if necessary - but I'll take a look at Gingerbreak. (Which I think will only give me Temp Root, which will be fine as I only want to back up a couple of apps!)
Thanks!
Well , I will say you should go with Superoneclick , As it has 99.9% success rate, where as Gingerbreak is at work everytime. I rooted my DS with SuperOneClick. Well if u r going with gingerbreak then Good Luck..
The only reason i didnt recommend superoneclick is because when i rooted my phone superoneclick wasnt available for desire s so i didnt want to recommend it but obviously if your saying its better than gingerbreak then it probably is. Plus gingerbreak worked first time for me. I think when you s-off it should give you permanent root

Both SuperOneClick and Gingerbreak didn't work, so I ended up using Revolutionary.io.
Seems to have worked well, even though I've voided all warranty (and the phone is only 3 days old!).

Welcome to the club.....
It's good practice to update this thread title with a prefix of [SOLVED] now that the issue is resolved, you can do this by editing post #1 and then clicking the Advanced edit button.
BTW, FYI, you can switch between hboot version by the following scheme:

[Q] Where do I post for a HTC Hero?

I'm not really sure where to post with the phone I have. I purchased a HTC Hero S and I can't seem to find the right forum for it. I found other HTC Hero forums, but the image for the phone doesn't match the one I've got.
My phone is quite similar to the HTC Evo, with a few differences in hardware. I'm interested in gaining root access, would following the guides there work out for me?
Thanks!
I Don't think there's any Support for the Hero S...
So there's no gaining root access on it for now?

I have a CDMA HTC Hero, and used the z4root.apk to get Root Access on my Hero!
I'll post a link to get the z4root all if you wanna try it?

Thanks for your time, man! I'm going to be reformatting my computer in the next week or so, so eventually I will try it and get around to letting you know how it went.
Thanks again.

[Q] How To Root Htc Inspire 4G

Hey,
I have a question, I been searching this forum on how to root the htc inspire 4g, but here is my problem. I know I need the ace kit hack, and a ROM i chose to use the cm jellytime. But, when i popped in the phone switched it to debud mode USB, opened the cmd hack it said something about enter in a passkey, then read the effen manual. I did READ the effen manual. I downloaded the htc sync application, was that my htc inspire 4g drviers? Any help would be appreciate, thank you guys.
Are you asking where to get the pass key? Or the drivers? Either way, instructions are in the manual.

You read the manual but not for comprehension...all you are asking is in there. make sure that you understand what you are about to do before messing the phone.

I think the safest route is via aahk. It's tried and true. You will definitely take more risk with any other method and most just don't work and require more time in fixing it so you can then use aahk.

No. unrevoked does not support your device. Why try to mess the phone when you can simply do it using the right tool? Just because of a 2 pages manual? then you should stay stock or your next post will be..."...I messed my phone and I am stucked..."
