I'm having a problem where my phone will not connect to 4G, it connected fine for about 2 weeks and then it stopped working. I have tried everything I can think of, restores, data wipes, new roms, the new radio, messing with modem settings, but I have had no luck, I'm starting to think that it is just my Thunderbolt and I will have to get a replacement I took this screenshot of the thing i think is werid, the phone recognizes the LTE network but GPRS service is disconnected. If anybody has any suggestions on something for me to try it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Flash the new radio that was made available today and see if that changes it. If not factory reset your phone and bring it in and say it stopped working.

I been have problems with 4G since Saturday here in San Diego. It has been working fine for 3 weeks up to this point. I have 3-4 bars of 4G, but there's no network connection. The connection does NOT bounce between 3G/1X. It is solid 4G, however on the 4G LTE icon at the top, only the white arrow lights up, never the down arrow. When I run the ping test in the diag screen you posted there, it fails.
I went down to the Verizon store near my house and they had two display Thunderbolts. One of them was having the same exact problem as mine. While I was there, I rebooted mine and it magically started working right.
Then about a hour ago, it stopped working again. Rebooted twice and nothing. Called Verizon tech support just to let them know there might be an issue since my phone and the display phone werent working right. They transferred me to a
"4G specialist" who had me shutdown the phone while he "rebuilt" my account in their system. Booted back up and it works again.. Dont know if something he did fixed it, or the third reboot fixed it.
BTW, my phone is factory stock. Have it set to LTE/CDMA Auto in th phone settings.
Sigh... it's doing it again this morning
Same here, stuck using 3G until further notice.

Ya this problem is making me mad, I'm going on a trip, and when I get back if I still have problems I will just unroot and get a replacement, I really hope someone knows a fix to this though and posts it

My 4g and 3g have been on the outs today here in ohio. Never had the issue before today. I'm assuming its a network issue and not an issue with my phone. And I have the new radio fyi.

-89 dB is pretty weak. -89 to -93 is what mine is at most places in my house. The only way it will go from 3G to 4G is if I walk over to the bedroom window facing the nearest celltower and then it will go to about -78 and switch to 4G.
When facing the tower do not "cup" the phone because I have seen as much as 10dB loss from my hand being between the phone and the tower.

I have similar issues in San Diego as well. Fortunately I work from home, so I just enable WiFi for now.

I can say the same thing in Phoenix.... you have good 4g days and you have bad 4g days. Like yesterday... up then down then up then down then nothing for an hr.... then up and down... an awesome way to tank the battery.
I wish Big Red would make up their minds... and fix these issues.
Same here in scottsdale, shows the 4g icon but there is no data till it switches back to 3g. Maybe just a coincidence but mine started yesterday after upgrading to the new radio and bamf 1.5

I'm having the same exact problem you are having in NYC and now in Boston while I am on vacation. If I force the phone to 3G, everything works beautifully, but to get 4G working again, I have to power off and on the phone.
Now, while in Boston, this issue happens when I am in an area of no cell signal (say the parking garage of my hotel) and then walk into an area with cell signal. I'll wake my phone from standby and will not see the 4G symbol, and then the symbol appears, but no data, like what you described.
I wonder if it has to deal with how the phone connects to the towers. Maybe the new radio will fix it? I'm currently on stock since it's still runs pretty damn well.
Just to mention, my phone does not suffer from the cycling issue between 3G and 4G.
Switched to bamf remix 1.5 with the same updated radio and 4g works great now. Kinda like the remix better.. win win
Did you try taking out your batter and sim card... waiting a minute and then putting them back in? I had this problem once where I was stuck in 3G in a 4G area and this is what tech support had me do. I didn't think it would work, but it did!
After updating to jcase's ruu update I can no longer receive data when on 4g only 3G. Anyone else experiencing similar issues? Any fixes?
I'm in same boat with you.

give it atleast 10 min.. it should connect, mine was doing the same thing and i was freaking out lol... for somereason the old radio seemed to connect faster
It's been hours.

I tried this and it worked. I downloaded the lte on/off program from the market switched my phone to just 3g and rebooted. When rebooted turned the 3g to lte only and rebooted. when rebooted turn it back to 3g/4g and rebooted and 4g was back to stay. Reboots may not be necessary but i didn't try this without rebooting.
I think I may to be on to something. Download LTE OnOff from the market. Try and toggle between CDMA auto (PRL) and lte + CDMA/edge. Run the ping test when you have the 4g signal in your status bar. If it fails, try to switch it to just LTE, if you do get a successful ping test, switch it back to lte + CDMA/edge. I'll have to see how long it lasts because I seem to be loosing full signal randomly while stationary. The bizarre thing is that it shows I have 4g signal strength, but the network is actually disconnected.
Already discussed here.
Turn off mobile data for 30 minutes, and check to see if its back on. If not, turn it back off and wait another 30 minutes. There are rolling updates in the North-East right now (Probably preparing for the LTE roll-out).

Yeah what he said.
So far so good.
I have Verizon Samsung Galaxy s3 and used phone info app to turn on only 3g selected (CDMA auto PRL) but I'm not getting full signal when I'm close to a tower I get maybe 3 bars. Am I selecting the right option in the app or should I select something different?
From what I have read, that would be correct but on another note.... I haven't seen 4G all day today and my 3g is only 1-2 bars since starting my morning...

you have to reprovision your device with this dialer code: *2767*3855#
this wipes data so have a backup ready...
Alright, well, I live in a 3G area and everyday for school I usually have 4G. Well since about 2 days ago I can't seem to pick it up. My data icon on the top just starts freaking out and over heating my phone. It shows no 3G or 4G signal and the bars will go away and come back and sometimes it'll just be completely empty and show and "R" where 4G should be. I went ahead and checked my mobile network settings And everything is set up to where I should get 4G except my "CDMA subscription" setting won't stick on "RUIM/SIM" it always goes back to NV. So for now I had to put my data to "CDMA/EvDo" rather than "LTE/CDMA/EvDo" I just got a new sim yesterday and it did it with the old sim as well. I'm running LiquidSmooth RC5 with LeanKernel and this is the first time I've ever seen this issue. Someone help me Please.
Try flashing a different ROM?

Why would you want to stick on RUIM. That is GSM and not LTE band.
I just don't get why I can't get it to stay on 4g. If I turn off data and turn it back on, it finds 4g then goes back to 3G after like 30 secs. How can I fix this. Can I change bands or force let or install a new rom. I'm rooted with stock 5.0 rom.
