Its amazing how much stuff HTC packed in this phone. This sucker is truly a beast of a phone.
Awesome very in depth review:

general q's on the nexus s on sprint

i have an evo and i can upgrade.. is the nexus s better?? or should i wait for the evo 3d?
thanks!
ck
Depdends what you're looking for. Evo 3d feels like a gimmick to me. Sure 3d screens seem pretty cool but seriously, is it thaaaat cool? I'm sure the novelty will wear off in a month or two. Not to mention how much battery it'll drain. But of course, you can turn off the 3d. Now...what's the point of a 3d phone if you're going to leave it off most of the time? However, the dual processor is pretty tempting.
Nexus s is pretty great in it's own standards. It's quick and snappy, I've been using it for a week now and it didn't once hiccup on me. It's also really thin and slightly smaller than the evo making it feel better in the palm. Not a bad phone at all.
im really wanting a dual core in a phone.. i really think it is going to improve the battery life tremendously.
If your really wanting a dual-core phone, id wait for the Samsung Galaxy S II
I agree with AshsToAshs but just get the Nexus you'll be happy with it.

Engadget review

I don't have the phone yet so can't comment from personal experience, but the review seems fair, balanced, and overall quite positive.

It will be my phone! =P

I love how they try sooo hard to find any negatives... Locked bootloader? Really? I mean, it is a big deal here this this community, but, it wasn't a negative on any other phone review (iphone [hello?! jailbrake!], etc). It should have been a 9/10.
Interesting that the reviewer heaps a lot of praise on the Sensation throughout the review but in the Wrap-Up section states, "...there's no getting around the feeling that it underwhelms." Based on the overall positive review that line really took me by surprise.
@BFSSpider: I think the review mentioned the locked bootloader because the reviewer wasn't happy with Sense 3.0 and the locked bootloader prevents rooting of the Sensation. Hopefully this won't be an issue considering the announcement by HTC regarding their new locked bootloader policy.
The bads are really funny as much as previous reviews of non-Apple product.
-Display isn't as Super as on Galaxy S II
-Sense 3.0 changes are mostly cosmetic
-Locked bootloader
-qHD is the best part of this display. They're saying qHD is good but display is not good? They meant colours are not oversaturated I guess.
-This is bad because of their expectations? How something can be bad because of not being improved as much as they expect?
-Locked bootloader is bad for us not normal users. They even don't what it is. Besides, it won't be locked.
If they say it's not that smooth, there is still no camera button etc. I would be ok but these "bads" are really funny.

Looks like the asynchronous cores save more battery than tegra2 and Samsung review was pretty good though.

I'm interested in seeing some real benchmarks by the pros like Anandtech.
They did a dual-core Snapdragon benchmark a while ago but that was for 1.5 GHz and not a real device anyway (not battery optimized etc).
Anyone know of anyone who's done some real thorough testing?

Being picky is what they do, for ALL PHONES. Let's be honest, virtually all new flagships/top-level phones now are AWESOME, some be-it more than others.
To provide a helpful review they have to be picky, so we know ALL the pros and cons (whether they be small or big) so we can choose the right device for ourselves.
I'm puzzled by the review. I read it and it seemed pretty positive and then the score card 8/10. I understand 8/10 if the review wasn't so positive.

Exactly. The review is so positive but the score is relatively low. Looks like they've pushed so hard to find some bads in score part to give it 8/10.
So true but the SG2 got 9/10. I just feel like the review doesn't match the score.
GS2 9/10
Good
Class-leading speed and responsiveness
Awesome Super AMOLED Plus display
Great still camera, capable of 1080p video
Bad
Build quality could be better
Pixel density is behind the leading pack
Browser rendering suffers from aliasing
Sensation 8/10
Good
qHD resolution is a winner
Best ergonomics for a 4.3-inch phone yet
Buttery smooth 1080p video recording
Bad
Display isn't as Super as on Galaxy S II
Sense 3.0 changes are mostly cosmetic
Locked bootloader

Exactly what I thought...he hypes it up, everything sounds great, then it suddenly underwhelms.
I think it was a poor choice of words.
Having said that, I'm selling my G2X on ebay and buying the Sensation outright.

They're just saying it's not all it should be. It's not a revolution, just a cosmetic upgrade.

How was it supposed to be? It shouldn't be counted as a bad thing. It's just an information.
if the bootloader will be unlocked (in a next official ROM version?), it will be my next smartphone
this review doesn't really fit my expectations, but then again, there is no perfect phone, yet although initially I thought my N1 was one!

Heres another review

http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/HTC-Sensation-Review_id2753
it scored 9/10
Lol beat me to it. Was just about to post it. They were very high on the device and the amount of phones they review that means something. Great video review
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
Yes, they seem to be very excited about the phone and unlike engadget, they did not complain about the sense 3.0 but they just kept on praising it saying they have noticed no lag or slowness, although they also mentioned that battery could be better, which ones again makes me clueless of why couldnt HTC increase the bat capacity a bit more.. well, you cant get everything in life
That was a great review. He was honest and basically showed of the phones main features. I really think the sense ui has improved enough for me to be happy with it. I still want to know about if HTC will unlock the bootloader anytime soon. I don't want to buy a phone and be forced to use the same os all the time.
On a side note: If this phones bootloader is unlocked and it can use custom roms, it will be a much better option than competitors. The focus HTC does with it's build quality and materials they use, is much better imo. I would rather have a heavier phone with better materials and a solid feel than a phone of lighter/cheaper materials and a cheaper feel.

For those with any doubt about O3D vs HTC Evo 3D

Those are "Leedroid's",one of the best developers out there, words on his twitter. That would be amazing if he decide to put his hands on a LG O3D "just dreaming"
"LeeDrOiD Lee Bailey
If you want a 3D android phone, the LG 3D is without a doubt a step ahead!"
"LeeDrOiD Lee Bailey
Very plastic, does not feel nice, lacking in 3D content and the 3D content you do get is below average, compare it to the LG."
"LeeDrOiD Lee Bailey
EVO 3D is a little disappointing..."
"LeeDrOiD Lee Bailey
Would preference a transformer.. any decent offers for an EVO 3D?"
Hah, very cool. =)

It a shame for everyone that now just assumes that, because it says htc on it, its gonna be the best of the best. Htc make too many mediocre phones. They ahould calm down their product line and just make one or two absolute monster phones at a time and get them to market quicker.

Today in town a htc market stand stoped me asking what phone i have and if i wanted to get a htc upgrade n i told him i have the o3d and he was gutted and asked if he could have a look at it and had a play on it and said that's a really good phone.
And this is a htc official retailer lol

Just to give you a first hand experience on the Evo3D.
I had it in my hands today and I reserved it online.
What can I say.... I am very much disappointed.
I thought that because its a HTC it would shock me and I would want it. But seriously the phone is not worth the trade with the O3D.
Positives on the Evo3D:
- Senses
- Here on xda pretty good support and kernel devs
- Hardware is a bit stronger than on the O3D considering benchmarks on the chipset
- More resolution
Negatives:
- 3D is really crap (I mean really really really junk compared to the O3D)
- The display although it has more resolution it really looks like it has been washed up, no good color contrast and no serious notice on the resolution since the colors look pretty bad
You can see that right away in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SqwT1eRe7U&feature=related
- The camera shoots bad pictures compared to the O3D
- Really cheap materials, case is made out of cheap plastic and the phone feels fragile and cheap
On the evo section of the board people vote for the evo. Here they vote for the LG but after having both phones in my hand I can clearly say that the LG is the best 3D phone because of 3 ko features:
- Real 3D with real 3D content
- Much better display quality
- Better material quality on the housing
You see the display every time you touch the phone and you feel the housing also every time you touch it.
I had the feeling I had a HD2 in my hands.
What a disappointment......

Advice on my new phone choice

Right now I have the Nexus S 4g. Love everything except the battery life (which has just took a huge step for the better) and the quiet speaker. Just updated it to AOKP Jelly Bean Milestone 1 and wow what a difference from CM10. But soon, I'll be forced (by the wife) to switch to Verizon, and I'm not exactly impressed with their lineup of phones, but I'm sure there are some that are worth looking at.
So anywho, this is what I look for in a phone...
-Screen resolution (I'm a sucker for a beautiful display, thank god for VooDoo Color on my phone)
-Battery life (I'm a hardcore texter, and frequently check my email, facebook, and a lil bit of web browsing. If it can get 10-12 hrs, I'm happy)
-Performance/Design Quality (Not a huge issue on the phones I'm interested in at this point, but could be if there's something new)
-Easy to Root/Mod with a strong community base!
-Size (Yea... it's gotta fit in my pocket... lol So "phablets" are out.)
Here is what I have for contenders so far...
-Samsung Galaxy SIII (not crazy about the design, but it has great specs and a good community base)
-HTC Droid DNA (sleek looking, nice specs... idk anything else)
-Galaxy Nexus (a little out of date, but great community base)
-LG Spectrum 2 (sleek looking and nice specs, pretty interested in the Optimus G, but it's only for Sprint)
-Moto Droid RAZR MAXX HD (not crazy about the design, but love the battery life and has a nice display)
Is there any phone I might be missing? And should I go for an IPS display or is the IPS display technology not worth it yet? Only thing I'm worried about on my list is the ease of rooting/modding the HTC and the Moto. Had issues with both manufacturers in the past. The LG would be a whole new ball game for me, but it is definitely a sleek looking phone.
Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

I would go with the galaxy nexus. Very budget friendly (for the CDMA verizon version) and you cant go wrong with a nexus device. The nexus s was updated to jellybean, so you can expect google to update the gnex for at least the next year or two.
I liked it for that reason as well. That and its basically bigger better version of my ns4g. Only thing that I didn't like was that people were complaining about the battery and quiet sound, same issues as this phone. Was hoping they would have corrected that. Although, battery can be addressed by a custom ROM.
S3 has a big community and development is strong there. The DNA is nice but a small non removable battery and no expendable storage is a deal breaker
I think best choice for you will be, if you take SGS3.. or maybe NEXUS 4 will be great choice.. it´s with performance compared to high end phones, and it´s cheap
If really care about the screen go for the DNA thanks to his beatiful 1920x1080 display wich is the double compared to its competitor, I wouldn't suggest it if you care more about modding.

Nexus 4
Go with either the Nexus 4 or the Galaxy SIII. I don't think you can go wrong with either phone.
If I could get the nexus 4 for Verizon, I would, but its not a CDMA phone from what I've read. So basically my best choices so far are the sgs3 or gnex... or is there something better on the way this coming year?
