For those with any doubt about O3D vs HTC Evo 3D - LG Optimus 3D

Those are "Leedroid's",one of the best developers out there, words on his twitter. That would be amazing if he decide to put his hands on a LG O3D "just dreaming"
"LeeDrOiD Lee Bailey
If you want a 3D android phone, the LG 3D is without a doubt a step ahead!"
"LeeDrOiD Lee Bailey
Very plastic, does not feel nice, lacking in 3D content and the 3D content you do get is below average, compare it to the LG."
"LeeDrOiD Lee Bailey
EVO 3D is a little disappointing..."
"LeeDrOiD Lee Bailey
Would preference a transformer.. any decent offers for an EVO 3D?"

Hah, very cool. =)

It a shame for everyone that now just assumes that, because it says htc on it, its gonna be the best of the best. Htc make too many mediocre phones. They ahould calm down their product line and just make one or two absolute monster phones at a time and get them to market quicker.

Today in town a htc market stand stoped me asking what phone i have and if i wanted to get a htc upgrade n i told him i have the o3d and he was gutted and asked if he could have a look at it and had a play on it and said that's a really good phone.
And this is a htc official retailer lol

Just to give you a first hand experience on the Evo3D.
I had it in my hands today and I reserved it online.
What can I say.... I am very much disappointed.
I thought that because its a HTC it would shock me and I would want it. But seriously the phone is not worth the trade with the O3D.
Positives on the Evo3D:
- Senses
- Here on xda pretty good support and kernel devs
- Hardware is a bit stronger than on the O3D considering benchmarks on the chipset
- More resolution
Negatives:
- 3D is really crap (I mean really really really junk compared to the O3D)
- The display although it has more resolution it really looks like it has been washed up, no good color contrast and no serious notice on the resolution since the colors look pretty bad
You can see that right away in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SqwT1eRe7U&feature=related
- The camera shoots bad pictures compared to the O3D
- Really cheap materials, case is made out of cheap plastic and the phone feels fragile and cheap
On the evo section of the board people vote for the evo. Here they vote for the LG but after having both phones in my hand I can clearly say that the LG is the best 3D phone because of 3 ko features:
- Real 3D with real 3D content
- Much better display quality
- Better material quality on the housing
You see the display every time you touch the phone and you feel the housing also every time you touch it.
I had the feeling I had a HD2 in my hands.
What a disappointment......

[INFO] Got to play with one!

Was amazingly thin and really didn't seem big for a 4.3". Felt like I was holding a Nexus One. Was a test unit given to a regional rep, but it felt awesome in the hand.
Camera was great. I was informed that it was shipping with Android 2.3 and sense 3.0 by the rep as well.
Been using a G2X for two weeks and I seriously can't stand it, just switched back to my MT4G. Getting a Sensation when it comes out for sure.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Have you - by any chance - ever had a Desire HD so you can compare these two flagships? I'm really wondering if the Sensation is that much of an upgrade. Of course, better hardware, better battery (even though the wake-times on the htc-page are even lower thant the one of the DHD...), nice dual core..
Just wondering.
Great to hear that it has that Nexus One feel. Anyone who's held one knows what a wonderful presence in hand it has.
The G2x has the Tegra 2 going for it, and that's all. Many are having no problems, but many are, not to mention that it just didn't _feel_ right.
I'm looking forward to giving this a shot and hope it'll keep me from buying an SGSII.
thanks for the info and good news
Unfortunately I've never had the chance to handle a Desire HD, I used to own an HD2, and it felt a lot smaller than that.
The mobile gaming with the Tegra 2 is awesome, I'm fairly confident the 1.2ghz chip from Qualcomm will be comparable or perhaps even better, though in the graphics department that is debatable.
Oh well, after trying to use a few devices, I'm still happy with my MT4G, can't stand Galaxy S phones, might be the way they feel. And the G2X just wasn't good.
Good to hear!
I hope HTC upgraded the speaker power this time, DHD and N1 have too quiet volume output even with tweaks.
As for the screen contrast reaching the Arc level will be a very good surprise!
We need something to match super amoled + so qHD with high contrast will be better.
I can not wait for the Sensation! I will trade my truck for one right now! I played with a G2X in a Tmobile store and got ta say I was not impressed, the space from the bottom of the phone to the screen where the soft buttons are, are abnormally BIG!, Made the phone feel qerky! Just doesnt have that HTC feel (Quality)!

The G2x feels like a truck, and it really isn't what I was hoping for. My HTC experience spans quite a few years but the Nexus One has been so good that I'm looking for something like that again.
I get the feeling the Sensation is that phone.

Sensation - best phone of all time ?

What a beautiful phone !!
Best phone of all time ?
Well not if you want a small phone or a keyboard, but it you want a bigger screen smartphone this has to be yes!
The main thing, or the sum of the parts, about this phone, is that HTC have put all their previous experience into the form factor and it shows.
For such a large screen device it feels small and light in the hand. It also looks smaller then it it.
The alu/plastic back is the perfect shape for holding and setting down. The front glass is lovely and the way you take the back off is the best way - no slide off shell that almost breaks everytime you do it, rather a release button and a smooth slide off. Even the slide-off is confidence building - the back encircles the main phone can curves round at the top. This ensures no rattling and also sealing the internals nicely.
The build quality is light and day difference from the Samsung Galaxy SII, for example. The Samsung is light and feels cheap. Worse, the last one I looked at in an O2 shop had a piece of velcro on the back slicking it to a small stand. Repeated removal meant that the thin plastic back was warped, one corner stuck off exposing some electronics and the middle had a nasty fold down it meaning it was hardly attached.
HTC Sense is the next jewel in HTC's crown. Sense 3D is no big upgrade but after some configuration it appears as jewel like as the body (I have a B&W picture background from the HTC collection) with dual clocks on the home screen, and a swiss watch skeleton clock on the lock screen).
Operation is fast and smooth. There are occasional jerks but I am sure this will be dealt with with a firmware upgrade (after all, multi-core CPUs are just introduced to Android).
The screen is a joy. Not so bright or contrasty as a AMOLED, but fantastic in its own right. The one criticism, if a bit picky, is that the contrast drops off sharply as you look at an angle. The extra 100 pixels either way over the normal high-spec android is really really useful for surfing and email (540x960).
Main gripes:
1. Not many apps using multi-core cpu
2. Not many apps using full screen resolution
3. Volume on ear piece could be a bit higher
All-in-all a great software effort for HTC's first dual core release but hardwarewise a mature and well thought out build with real ownership pleasure.
I think you could make the Moto Cliq sound amazing. You just made me so excited to have this phone.
What a phone.
Cheers

I would definitely own the Sensation over the iPhone 4, any day of the week. It's not even close. To me, that's a significant statement to make given how the iPhone has pretty much dominated.
Hey,
I've just come from having an iPhone 4(had it a year, and got bored), and this is my first Android phone. I must say i am happy with the phone, but the best phone ever? Not yet.
The iPhone has a great Retina screen and its build quality is great. But you have to jailbreak it to get some basic features, like bluetooth, customising themes, tethering etc.
The Sensation is great out of the box, not a snappy as i anticipated i think due to sense. But i has everything i need as stock.
Sound is a bit low, and crackly sometimes. But i am impressed.
Cant wait to root it and unlock the real speed of the phone

Yeah like the other dude said, this list looks... off a bit.
Sensation is beautiful but the best graphics?
3Gs the best phone ever? Really?
Nexus One, the best android phone ever? Maybe only to the dev community.
Fastest - Should read fastest data speeds, then yes I would agree with that one. In terms of overall responsiveness, then no.
Gaming phone - could be any Galaxy S1 (Power VRSGX540 is still a beast), GS2, or any tegra2 device out there. The Xperia play has an Adreno 205 GPU which makes it decent at best, physical controls and all. But it lines up with the rest of Sony's product lines - They make a lot of good stuff, just never the best.

I feel the same way but..... give iPhone 4.3" screen and T-mo bands and we'll talk again. I don't like apple, SJ or their nazi ways but there's something fascinating about having a device that just. works. out. of. the. box. Couldn't agree more! This phone has made, by far, the best first impression (and continued) of any new device I've purchased in years.
I'm not sure why the 3GS was brought up here - I went from the 3G to the 3GS and really didn't feel it was worth it (it was a free upgrade through work, so what the heck). The original iPhone can get a mention, but I wouldn't give any of the subsequent models anything special.

That's a d*ck move you pulled there. Go back under the bridge from which you came. The OP didn't once claim that this phone was better than the GS2. He was merely stating that he's in love with his phone. Nothing wrong with that. Everyone already knows that the GS2 is superior performance wise. Now go back to your Samsung forums and leave us be.

I agree about how nice it is that the iPhone works out of the box but I have to say I was able to get up and running in no time on my new Sensation just by entering my gmail account info...boom everything was there.
As for Sense I never liked/used Sense before but IF I got stuck with it on the Sensation I wouldn't be ready to kill myself. Frankly I think CM ROMs are waaaay overrated...so they are faster, great, but half the time stuff like GPS don't work. That said I will root this baby the second I get the chance.
......NOT !!!
ps: ok, maybe the best htc phone of all time.
GS2 is definitely more powerful at the moment. But after software update, hopefully the Sensation will show big improvement. I mean Sense 3.0 runs very smoothly on EVO 3d, so there's no reason why Sensation couldn't.
Sound and camera quality on HTC, however, need to be a lot better. Samsung have this, as well as sheer power and speed covered. But of course, HTC have an upper hand in the aesthetics of the phone, both hardware and software.
While I long for GS2's unstoppable power, I really cannot stand its big, non-matchingly-colorful, unpolished interface (I don't mind the plastic build). Same with the Sensation - unbelievably beautiful look of the device and UI, but things like dust under screen, dim screen (compared to EVO 3d), whispering speaker volume and average camera quality turn me off quite a bit.
So, I'm gonna stick to my good, old blackberry and wait until HTC or Samsung
address their weakness.

HTC Sensation or SGSII...in the real world??

Hi all, I've finally come too the conclusion to upgrade from my HTC Wallaby. I have read so many posts about the Sensation and the Galaxy 2, I know there is a difference on paper, but In the real world? what are they like. It seems people on here are making the Sensation to be something the neanderthal used to start fires. Or perhaps the Galaxy 2, is a Tricorder in disguise, that also has a genie inside that can grant 7 wishes.
What are real world situations that would set in stone, one device over the other?? I know they are both horribly fast and great phones. Maybe if there was a guy in a pink bunny costume holding a machete banging on your front door screaming "ILL KILL YOU IF YOUR PHONE IS SLOWER THAN MINE!!". Or perhaps a mad scientist kidnaps you and some poor chap from Europe, both of which have either phone. Holds you in a cage and your phones on a drop tether five feet over concrete, and threatens which ever phone has the most damage from the drop, he will Fuel Air Bomb their neighborhood. Or what if a sadistic madman strapped thirty pounds of C4 to a cute little kitten, and you had to use a phone to deactivate the trigger. Would the Galaxy pose such a difference to make it effective over the Sensation?
My question is, Does it matter so much that one is faster than the other? The way I see these arguments, Its like having a Ford Focus vs a Ferrari...but only your driveway to use them...
In the real world they're both just phones. They all perform the same tasks and do pretty much the same thing. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. If you can get your hands on both, try them out and then make a decision.
I have not had the pleasure of handling the SGSII but I do have the G2X and the Sensation. I am expecting my 4th Sensation on Wed. All three of the Sensations have had numerous issues. Even though I have not been hands on with the SGSII I would recommend giving it a try. I arrive at this conclusion after reading numerous reviews. Both are nice phones but if I had the opportunity I would go for the SGSII. Just my opinion.
Phone quality and Sense will keep me coming back to HTC until something better comes along. TouchWiz isn't my favourite and since my SGS blew up Samsung isn't in my good books either.
i had those two phones and i can only say...
you whant power? Super light phone, amazing speeds, fast browser, and super 1080p on youtube?
SGSII
you prefer better materials? with a good screen to browse on internet, and of course more updates?
HTC Sensation
I think the only real diference in those two devices, are the screen and the body of the phone ( plasic or aluminium ).
In terms of performance ( no on benchmarks ) all the apps run very well on both.
I've decided with the sensation!

SG2 pros:
Larger screen
Better color
Faster overall performance
Smoother browser scrolling framerate
SG2 Cons:
Feels like cheap plastic toy
TouchWiz 4 still ugly
S4G Pros:
Higher resolution
Feels better built/better quality in hand
Sense 3.0
Supports developer community/mods
HTC brandname
S4G Cons:
Smaller screen
Sense 3.0 reduces framerate
Personally I love large screens. The SG2 offers the same aspect ratio as the HD2/Thunderbolt. I dont really like the skinny look of the S4G. However, Sense is so functional Google should buy out HTC just to integrate it into Android. Every other UI strives to be like sense, and they all fail miserably. It just depends on how much this means to you. I became frustrated with my S4G not measuring up to other phones, so I took it back and switched to verizon and bought a Thunderbolt. I still love HTC, but the S4G just wasnt for me. I'll seriously consider getting the SG2 when it releases for VZW, but only if I dont feel TW4 interface is going to bother me to the point of missing Sense.
@RunNgun42
Both phones has 4.3" screen .
So the SGS2 has not a pros over The S4G regarding the screen size

They are both 4.3" diagonal, but the aspect ratios are different. The Thunderbolt/Galaxy2 have wider screens to they are physically bigger phones. Personally I like the extra width, I think the default font sizes and such for web browsing fit better. I found myself having to fiddle with the zoom level on the Sensation too much for my liking.

LG Thrill....should I wait?

So I've been using an iPhone 3GS for a long time now and I want an android phone. I read about the HTC Sensation but it's on tmobile and I don't want to leave my grandfathered unlimited data plan. Question is should I wait and get a LG Thrill or get a Sensation?
How's the screen on the thrill? I've read that the resolution is bad. Is the thrill going to get gingerbread?
Thank you all.
AJ
Get the Thrill....
I agree, get the Thrill. I have had mine for two weeks now and it is the best phone I have used. The screen is real nice and gingerbread will be coming in October. Besides the 3D, this phone packs a punch!
Sent from my LG Optimus 3D with Tapatalk
So it's worth it to stay on the ATT network and pay a little more rather than go with tmobile?
I would get the thrill
my sister owns the Sensation and I own the Optimus 3D.
From what I've used so far, unless you can't live without Sense 3.0, get the Thrill.
For the sensation, I can't help but feel that its just a regular high end phone you'll find anywhere. Hardware isn't too different, and sure its using higher resolution, but that's actually not that great of a thing.
A few of the apps I tested out on the Sensation does not show up properly. What I mean is that it shows the app perfect and it works, except there's a lot of black spaces on the left, right, and bottom sides of the screen. But none of that would happen with the Thrill since most apps would work on a 480x800 resolution.
The screen of the Optimus 3D is actually very decent. Viewing angles are good, I dont notice any ghosting or bleeding or that kind of stuff. Its not that bright though. I compared the brightness of both phones and the Sensation seems to win there. But, after testing that out, I lowered brightness down to half for daily use so I'm not sure if that's such a deal breaker.
You shouldn't be worried about the screen, because there's no problems there.
And the Thrill will definitely get Gingerbread. LG has already stated that the Optimus 3D will get that update in the coming months and it should be a bit later for the Thrill.
So, if I were you, I would go for the Thrill. 3D is actually very useful to have. After I used the Optimus 3D, the Sensation doesn't feel too spectacular anymore.
If you dont want the wait buy a unlocked Rogers one same frequencies so it should work fine
How does the thrill stack up to the sgs2? If I don't care about 3d stuff is the thrill still for me?

Depends on what you want it for
Pros and Cons vs the SGS2 (IMO)
Cons
Battery time (LG O3D/Thrill is a power hog due to unoptimized power usage that will hopefully be addressed in later software and power hungry hardware, will get better but most likely SGS2 will give you more lifetime, I solve this by having a $30 5000mAh portable charger that works great)
Screen (if you don't use the 3D at all the screen is a negative, not as good with colors etc, needs more power and so on, it's not a bad screen (it's good as well) just designed for 3D and not low power consumption etc)
RAM (while IMHO 512MB (2X256) of ram with dual channel is preferred to 1GB single some will list this as a weakness of the O3D, won't really matter for normal use, but if you want to run 1500apps at the same time you might prefer the bigger size over speed)
Storage (SGS2 has 16/32GB, O3D has 8, sucks I know but you can always put in 32GB more but as you can also do that in the SGS2, Storage goes to SGS2)
Pros
3D (Well the 3D is good and actually nice for pictures etc and with Fuji-films 3D printing and more 3D hardware coming to market it's more than just a gimmic)
Development (While not set in stone the development opportunities for the O3D is enormous, much to the fact that TI shares their code for the chipset like no other, CyanogenMod development is in full swing with 3D features, Radio etc already working even though it's just started and not even nightlys are out yet)
Media support (The O3D if the phone with most media support hands down and it's really good, with the HDMI out this effectively makes it a portable media station unlike any other phone and that's not even counting the fact that you can plug it in to a 3DTV)
FUN Factor (The SGS2 is a stable and very good phone no question but that also makes it a bit boring, for me at least, the O3D has so much potential with the dual core, dual memory, dual channel and TI's open source code and the 3D on top of that give it that extra)
As for resolution etc, 800x480 on a 4.3" screen is enough unless you tend to hold the phone 5cm (~2") from your eyes, I don't have 20/20 vision, far from it but I've never felt that the screen felt unsharp or anything like that and the screen preforms well even in sunlight.
If you are into 3D then this phone is for you.
The 3D is done pretty well.
If not then maybe you should check out other options.

I just picked up one of these bad boys. While it isn't as snappy as my Atrix, (I'm hoping it's just because it's still stuck on Froyo), it's still a very fun phone to use. I haven't had a 4.3" screen in a while, and although the phone itself is a bit bigger, I forgot how nice having that much screen size was. The 3D effect is awesome. I took a couple of shots of my dog, and he's just that much more adorable on picture now. The only drawback is that the Thrill is my only 3D device, so I'm kind of stuck just seeing it on that screen. Also, if you're a big Picasa/Google Photo user, just a heads up that the *.jps 3d images that the Thrill takes will not upload to their servers until you rename them to*.jpg.
If you're not really into the 3D, I would pass on the Thrill for a SGS2 if you wanted to stick with AT&T.
They're a great deal at only $30 at Costco.
picked mine up today!!! cant put it down hahaha
really recommend it.. its pretty darn quick and i wasnt really interested in the 3d but LG did a really good job with it!!!
anyone having problems with tango not working. i can see the caller but they can't see me. only what's showing through the back camera.

Happens to me too. I believe this is because we're still on 2.2
and its 2.3 which supports FFC
it's actually 2x512mb ram.
technically there is a gigabyte but because it works as two copies of the same data there is only a useable value of 512mb.

Yeah it is pretty amazing. i have been toying with some tweeks from other roms and this thrill is blazing fast afterwards.
It has stomped the sgs2 attain that i got to play with in every benchmark I have put them through. the 3d exceeded my expectations...overall very pleased considering it got such bad reviews. i may actually keep it.

Haha, I'm in the same situation here. The phone fared a lot better than I expected and now parting ways with it isn't going to be as easy as I thought it would be. The 3D was cooler than I expected, but I still think it's a gimmick at the end of the day.
A few weeks from now - once there's a good dev community - I can see this phone doing pretty well. Right now, it's still pretty mediocre in my opinion, but not as mediocre as some of the reviews make it out to be. lol.
I was originally turned off from getting this device because of the bad reviews... however I picked mine up today and am happily impressed with everything it can handle!!!
Only my first day but already like it better than the infuse...

[Q] Would you buy anothe 3D SmartPhone?

If your current 3D phone was broken beyond repair, would you buy another 3D phone to replace it?
If LG's support was like samsungs,i would.
The "Yes, a new high-end 3D Smartphone" is missing. Now I can only buy the Max / Evo3D. I'm still hoping for new 3D smartphones.
And yes, I would buy one again, absolutely.
The 3D cam is most important, and since my phone is the only camera I'm carrying around always, it's the best way to shoot 3d pictures.
And 3D pictures (and movies) are absolutely a great asset.
i already got an 12 M pixels camera,so yea,an other 3D camera handset would be nice, if this one is gone.
EVO3D....( ̄. ̄), well,i try it before, it make me dizzy.
i think its not my option. i like to try the 3DMAX. (^o^)

When I bought my O3D, I was fascinated by the fact that it could do 3D and the tri-dual technology or whatever. But I only used the 3D capabilities of it about two times since I bought it when it came out. Sooo, I should've bought a different phone, totally regret it to be honest.
If it comes from LG...I would have second thoughts...If it would come from Nokia, I'd go for it instantly

Don't touch HTC Evo3D! Bad choice.
I had EVO3D and I sold it so fast.
It made very crap 3D (misaligned in vertical) and very poor colours of pics & videos.
It makes me headache. You can look at Phereo.com for HTC Evo3D photos all are pink
More, more better is O3D
Reasonably priced 3D superphone turned out to be a myth, in exchange for the 3D I could have enjoyed a lighter, sexier phone with twice as much Ram and 1200Ghz CPU that's not overclocked, Amoled screen, superb support and the list goes on, since I'm most interested in mobiles (androids mostly) as mini computers, 3D isn't interesting to me and actually I tried selling this phone to buy an S2 but I just didn't have enough budget
Although if I go out so often, taking pictures for people on O3D is cool

Start making 3D pictures! You'll enjoy them a lot when you got a 3D TV later on.
I would get another 3d phone as it is a bit geeky and makes your phone stand out from other peoples.. but would i get another lg.. no there just isnt the support you get from htc or samsung

Nope. Don't care about 3D anymore.

At this point I would rather have a newer more powerful device. I love 3D and if there was a newer better 3D phone I would jump on it but at this point I'd rather have an S3 than a 3DMax.
Considering I didn't buy my LG P920 for the 3D but because it was going cheap locally I doubt I'd look at another 3D phone unless it was also going at a really good price.
I don't have a 3D tv and have no inclination to get one so 3D is one of those irrelevant functions.
I also use a DSLR for photography so phone camera specs are also equally irrelevant.

In the future your TV, your laptop, even your windows will be 3D and you will be sorry that you haven't made more pictures/movies of your current life in 3D. (Just like there are people who are now sorry that they didn't made more pictures/movies in the past)
Just saying, you have, why won't you use it?
Thats why in the "future" when everything will be 3D i will just use a 2D to 3D converter (algorithms will do the magic) so all my photos will look 3D.
