Ok I need some sound advice here. I am currently an iphone user but I want to switch to android. It just so happens my younger brother has a x10a which he is willing to trade with me. We are both on the AT&T network. My questions are how easy is it to root the phone so to say? Also I have heard I need to load a sideloader? Ugh, iphone hacking was so much easier. HELP!!!!!
I think the flashtool is best tool, if you have pc.
One click root applications (z4root etc) don't work any longer.
find one click root app on xperia x10 forum android develop topics
Would recommend FlashTool, its a simple all in one solution. Just do a search for it on XDA forum.

Hi.
Let's start by making it clear that I have NO IDEA what to do.
All I want to do is update my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 from android 1.6 to 2.1
I've searched around the forum for hours and read many tutorials on rooting, flashing, debranding, unlocking, custom ROMS, firmwares, generic global something, etc. It's like reading an other language. Sure, they say "step by step" or "noobs guide to ___", but that still doesn't help. Like I said, I have no idea what to do at all. Let's pretend I'm someone who hasn't even heard of updating android...
So far all I know is that I have an X10 from USA, ATT branded. The 2.1 update was "released during Q4", but apparently not for everyone. I tried doing the software update from the phone, but it won't work. That's what tells me that I have to do some sort of "hacking" to get 2.1.
If anyone has a guide (that will actually help me) or will tell me ACTUALLY step by step, that would be very much appreciated. If their is anything I left out about my phone, please ask and I'll try to answer. Sorry, I don't have any money to give you... But you can have a cookie
Have you tried the se update service? There are 3 ways to download updates, via the phone, through the pc companion and with the update service which you can download from the SE home.

Actually I forgot to mention that. Yes, I have tried both. All it ended up doing is reinstalling my phone with no apps.
Hi XDA
i got an xperia x10i, droid 2.1 rooted. work perfect with help from xda forums.
my question is
a friend has a xperia x10 mini, droid 1.6 unrooted. i refered her to xda to get z4root, but it wont work on her phone. so i suggested she upgrades to firmware 2.1.
when she connects phone to pc, she can explore SD card, but when she tries to upgrade software, phone is instantly disconnected.
can anyone help with either a root alternate for z4root, or advise on the disconnection problem.
im on pal aswell, in XDA DEVELOPERS room. pal id is 5244607.
Wow, i know im asking alot, but i think all droid users should experience being rooted
Thank you
Maximus
Hello all!
Changed my Motorola Defy for an Xperia Active, the ear-speaker problem x3 times in 5 months made me to lay down hope on a solid and sturdy phone by Motorola... Otherwise a good phone...
Now I want to root and tweak my SE Active and wonder if there is any "how-to" on the net, cant seem to find anything and rooting it as the other Xperia devices doesn´t work apparently, at least not for me... ;(
Any suggestions, links is warmly appreciated mates.
Thanks in advance.

...Thanks...
It is in my understanding that rooting this phone is impossible at the time being, too early it seems...
Not even able to root it here: http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
Also

Exactly, I think the interface is pretty much ok, its just this "some" (a lot) of junk that has to go...Would like to clock it too and under-volt it.
Cant really see the need to install CyanogenMod on this phone as I did on my Defy, nor do I use my Launcher Pro.

Looked all over the web for info on rooting SE Xperia Active. Found none.
Has anybody ever attempted to root Xperia Active? It's been on the market for a while now...

Wouldn't the rooting procedure be the same for mini pro and active?
ZergRush Exploit works on Gingerbread devices inludes all Xperia 2011 and the bootloader can be locked for the root
That's great to know. Thanks
I Know I aleady posted a thread like this, but it was closed before a found a solution, please dont close this one too!
I have an old smartphone (model specified above), which I have tried to find a root for it (like FOREVER), every single root I found wasn't able to do the job. Either the program alerted me that the phone is not supported , or tried to root and failed. I have looked into other threads with the same problem, and they either didn't have a solution, or simply directed me towards stickys with rooting programs that also didn't work.
I want to root it so I can uninstall some of the build-in apps that I dont use (such as facebook, youtube, and out-of-date & un-updateable operator apps.). They function poorly, take up space, and worst of all: they run in the backround (and on old phones such as this every megabyte of RAM counts.) Please help me.
Is there something I'm missing? A vital step a skip or something? Do i need to unlock the bootloader to root?
I probably have a custom ROM of the operator this phone was originally purchased from, does it make any difference?
If Anyone can explain to me step-by-step what and how to root, or point me to a usefull guide, i will be forever thankful.
The file attached is a example to one of many failed roots.

Im running the 4.1.2 version and although i found some guides, they are all made with different ways. I need some help on how can i root the phone because i have completely no idea about this stuff. I dont even know what means ice cream sandwitch, jellybean, kittkat, flashtool, Bootloader, kernel and all these terms i just wanna root this phone for better usage. Could someone show me a newbie way to do it? I havent done any change/configuration to my phone ever, i only typed a code on my dialpad and i found out that its "allowed" to root my phone. Thanks in advance for any help.
