[Q] HTC Desire Z Won't Update New Software - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

So I noticed the other day that there was a software update. So I downloaded the update and when it reboots to install the update I get an error message. I have rooted my phone with visionary. I first did temproot then did permroot. I assume that my phone is rooted correctly and I used visionary to unroot my phone and still have the same issue. When I go to terminal emulator and type su it seems fine. I have also tried unrooting my phone and also tried doing a factory reset in the settings menu. Nothing seems to work. I purchased my HTC Desire Z from a local cell phone shop so it is a legitimate phone. I love my phone but I really want to upgrade to Android 2.3 eventually and if a software update won't work I don't know how I will update to 2.3
I get the red triangle then I get
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Copying fotaboot to /data/system for customize reload...
Verifying current system...
Assert failed: apply.patch.check ("system/app/facebook.apk", 16ccb41b0a251746c7d903dbf423f57316677456", 5b162a2af40f851c3c040532139738a260a00e9f")

Installation abborted
Then I reboot and everything is fine. Now I should say that tis phone is unlocked and not on Bell Mobility but on Telus. Also I should say that after rooting the phone I uninstalled a few applications such as facebook. Thanks for any help at all. If I need to I can restore my phone to before I messed with it but I don't know how since a factory reset doesn't put facebook back on

[Q] Unroot for update?

I just received my OTA update this morning as a download.
Problem is, my G2x is rooted and in superuser mode with busybox installed.
I did not run NVFlasher or install a custom ROM.
If I allow this update (was able to delay for 4hrs) to run do I need to unroot or will the update just break root and everything will be ok?
I updated my phone with the kdz flasher while rooted, I doubt it would matter for you either. After the update you will be unrooted, of course.
I unrooted, went back to stock recovery and everything, got an OTA update this morning and did it, but it was validating software package and somehow I had gotten bad service and it said invalid software package, and now it keeps telling me "connection failed" or "current version is the latest" WTF?

Please Help! I Think Sprint's Recent Evo4G Update 5.07.651.1 Messed Up My Phone!

To make a really long story short, after Sprint's recent ota 5.07.651.1 (the update that came with the Sprint connections optimizer) was installed on my phone, I could no longer download or update ANY apps on the android/google play market while connected to 4G. Went to the Sprint store to get it fixed, they tried and failed, got a new replacement handset with ota 5.07.651.1 already installed, same exact issue. Reached the conclusion that the update screwed things up. Downloaded and tried to use this RUU file to revert back to the old build right before this one (4.67.651.1):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484240
This was unsuccesful as the error message it gave me said:
ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone.
Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again.
My hboot is 2.18.0001, is there a version of the above RUU file that is compatible with my bootloader version?

[Q] Update 18.3.B.0.31 installation error

Hi,
I have a Xperia M2 Dual with firmware 18.3.B.0.31
A few days ago, a notification informed me that a new update was released for my device, with the same firmware number (18.3.B.0.31), and a 16,5 MB size
When I download the update (with the update center within the device or with Sony PC Companion), the update fails to install and the message "Failed verification" appears.
My device is rooted and I then tried to unroot it, which I did successfully, but still impossible to install this update. What can be done? If someone has an idea, please let me know.
Thanks a lot
If it's same version, just ignore it. Otherwise, download the update with xperifirm and create the .ftf from it with flashtool and flash it (make sure to not flash the data part, else you will lose the data on your internal memory).
The "verification failed" message appeared for me as well, I assume it's because I unlocked the bootloader, so it can't find some keys to verify the signature of the update

[Completed] Can't update Samsung SCH-I415 - Status 7 error

Hi all,
I have problem updating my generally new Samsung SCH-I415 Stratosphere 2. I got an update package ZIP, that has been downloaded by Phone form Verizon directly. I took it to my SD card and tried to flash from stock recovery, but it has status 7 error. Phone was probably rooted before and now, on welcome screen, it shows unlocked padlock above Custom notification. I have managed to make system status to normal, but it didn't changed much - still got status 7 error. Is there any option to flash/install this update.zip on that phone? There is no firmware available for this model, no custom ROM or recovery. Please help :/
PS is there any modification to do in update.zip that I could make, to run it propely? I have found that in update-script I should remove some assert line, but when I have done that, it says ZIP signature failed.
Ok, I finally got it - it's really hard to find Odin flashable firmware to this device. Here it is: http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?q=sch-i415&exact=1
Damn. I have downloaded updates from verizon and tried to flash again that firmware. Now I got "firmware upgrade encountered an error". Is there any chance to fix it/or get into recovery to factory reset?
Hi !
Thus thread isn`t for your device but it looks like it`s a workaround

Good luck !
This model is not supported by kies unfortunatelly....

MetroPCS Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL OTA Errors

I am trying to update my MetroPCS Fierce XL in order to finish the sim unlock for the device (metro unlocked it but I can't get my end to go through until I am updated to current on the device) and I keep getting the following error message when attempting to install the dang update, please help!!!!

EDIT: I probably should have included that i am running stock rom, have never changed that and while my phone was rooted until recently I got it fully unrooted (the update program was blocking my updates and now it isn't so I know i did it right) and am running android 5.1.1 on the device.
I found some expanded info for my phone thanks to some things I learned here in the forum, y'all are scary good at this kind of stuff. This is the new info I was able to learn about my phone.

I have the update I need to install on the phone currently I just cannot access the folder it is in to copy it to try to find another method of installing it as I am unrooted. ANY help would be very appreciated as I am sort of on a time crunch to get this solved so I can finish my device unlock. Thank you all for your sharing of your knowledge and I hope to hear back soon, have a great day y'all.
I'm begging you all...
Someone please give me a little bit to work on to fix this issue, it is beyond my scope. I have been in contact with Metro PCS and Alcatel and got bupkis. I have been searching here and just about everywhere else I could think of and am no closer to being able to have a working phone again let alone hope to recover my lost documents and pictures. If I was smarter I wouldn't have to beg but I really am begging here please
