Mount SMB-Shares like cifsmanager without root - General Topics

Hi,
I want to mount a samba share to a mountpoint, I can access with severall apps. CIFSmanager can do that, but only with root.
I won't root my Incredible S. Is there a way to do this without root?
Thx!

AndSMB (https://market.android.com/details?id=lysesoft.andsmb&feature=search_result) worked fine for me on my Inspire 4G and didn't require root.
ps. Sorry about the text only link ... I'd post a QR code but I don't have enough posts yet.

Hey thank You,
but the difficulty seems to be mounting the share to a place below /sdcard, so I can reach it with several other tools.
Thx!

I also wamt to mount smb shares
Hi there
I hope this is the best starting place
I have a HAIPAD M7 MID TABLET PC Android 2.3 8GB
I want to access my nas drive file direct, I need to mount the share, but I know I know only just enough about lnix so would prefer to not root device.
I want the media player to "see" the nas just like a sd card or the music folder
Are there any guides etc
Many Thanks
Ian

[Q] Mount SMB network share

I want to mount a Windows 7 shared folder on the TF. I have tried both cifsmaner and Mount Manager and both keep telling me no such device exists. The share is on 192.168.x.x on E drive in a folder called Share. I have made it accessible to Everyone and I have no problems accessing it from File Expert or ES File Explorer. But I cannot get it to mount on the TF.
Any ideas?
EDIT: Oops! Should be posted in general sorry about that.

cifs manager help : empty directory

I'm having a very specific problem with cifs manager.
When I mount a CD drive, I can access all root files and see all directories, but all those directories are empty.
I have this same problem when I share a CD drive in 2 Different xp machines, but, No problems in Windows 7.
I tried sharing and mounting the individual folders, but they were still empty. If I moved those same folders to my harddrive and shared, then it works.
From my Android tablet, I am able to browse and open those missing files in Es explorer.
But what I really want to do is mount those files. (I also tired Mount Manager, didn’t work at all)
Anyone know what the problem might be?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I have had this happen once before. I just deleted the mount and fully shut down and restarted the transformer and recreated the mount from scratch and it worked.

You need to ensure the module is loaded by default at boot. Even though you have a Cifs capable ROM, the module wont be running until you enable it. Go into the settings, check the tickboxes for 'Attempt to load Cifs modules at boot' and 'Load via Insmod' and then restart the TF'er. Remount the share and it should work.
I'm using the Android Revolution HD rom which has support for utf-8 :

Did all that, but it will not work at all. All i got is these error message's, is there someone who can get me a detailed dummie how to? I think it has something to do with the way my Transformer handles the Cifs as my HTC desire works flawless with Cifsmanager.
Please anyone......
BTW the error i'm getting now is :
mounting the device has failes with an error
mount: no such device

Are you trying to mount a location on the sd card? That is fat32 and I had issues so I switched to samba fileshare. Now I wirelessly transfer from sd card of phone to sd card of transformer as well as windows shares. It actually works when I ad hoc tether as well using wireless tether app and ghost commander file manager. Samba also has a wifi whitelist which will only activate your shares on wireless networks you choose.

Thanx for your answer, i'm using a 16GB fat32 formatted MicroSD card, and the main purpose of cifsmanager has to be a connection to a share on my synology which contains cbr files. So that i can browse and read easy on my transformer.
I have this all working on my HTC desire, but when i copy those settings on to my transformer the damn thing doesn't work at all.
Can you please help me out with instructions to figure this out?
with kind regards,
Marco

We would need to know the technical details and set up of the HTC and see what might be different on the Transformer. I noticed Samba file share had issues when I went to ICS on the Transformer.

[Q] EXT4 MicroSD card problem

Hello guys,
I want to use my GTP to watch movies through my projector. I did some research, and found I can connect GTP to project by HDMI adapter.
The biggest problem is 4GB limitation of file size. External SD card format is fat32 which is allowed to have only maximum 4 GB.
I formatted it as ext4 and could copy bigger than 4GB. However, GTP can't recognized sd card. It said "not support file system".
Does anyone know how I can make my Tab recognize ext4 format sd card?
My tab is vanila, not rooted and has original factory ROM.
Official answer, you can't.
There is no direct support on an unrooted stock kernel to mount the external sd anything other than FAT32.
Even with a custom rooted kernel, getting the system to mount the external sd as an EXT4 partition would require some pretty fine work quite possibly using an init.d script or similar.
Have you tried the solution posted for the similar 7.7 model tab?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522134
There is also a way to mount NTFS format cards using the method and apps in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493294
Let us know how it works out. My tab is currently on loan so I can't try it myself.
I believe you need root to execute the mount command but I'm not certain.
Note that you will need to use the mount command manually each time you, e.g., reboot the device.
I suspect you may be able to get away with just adding it to /etc/fstab - that's what I would do with a Linux box but I'm not sure if that's deprecated with Android in particular.
acolwill,
Yes, I agreed that. I tried to search some script that can mount ext4 sd card, but gave up. Also, GTP does not have custom rom, doesn't it?
I appreciate your reply.
bydo,
Thanks for the solution!! It looks it is way way worth it to try!
I will try, and update the result here soon. I can't wait.
Thanks again, bro
h2g2,
Yes, but my GTP has random re-boot problem. LOL. Every 2 days, it re-boot randomly. I think rooting is not a big deal. Many awesome developer and hacker here already made good application for rooting. After that, I tried to find the command that can mount ext4 sd card, but gave up. After google, so many ways for different devices with different custom rom version. It was finding a needle in heystack.
But, I will try bydo way, and update the result for you guys.
Guys, once again, I really appreciate you answers.
I tested it!!!
Do you guys want to know the result?
It is working!!!!!
Lol, awesome!. I just tested 2 mkv 1080P and 720P movies.
Those movies worked perfect.
1080P movie was 8GB and 720P movie was 4.4GB, and sound was DTS codec.
I will make another post how to mount ntfs partition, how to play those movies. Guys, I want to post here, but I think we should share this with more people. That's why I want to make a new post, and describe in detail.
I will post the link here, so you can find it easily.
Special thanks to bydo!
I wrote a new post.
here is the link. You can get instruction on this link.

[Q] Super Mount app Question - how to?

Hello there, sorry for this noob question, but I am really eager to let my external SD card to work. I have checked out some of the methods like directory bind etc., although some of them do not work and even complicated for a noob like me; I saw this app called Super Mount in google play and also it was previously suggested as what i have read in the forum here in XDA regarding how to run your apps or games in your ext SD so you can save your phones' (in case my mine its tablet) internal memory, did some research, and so I have tried what I could but I cannot seem to make it work... here is the path that I have been using in the Super Mount....(the one listed below that is the example path in google play)
source path : /storage/extSdCard/Android/obb/jp.co.sega.vtc (my tablet)
mount path : /storage/emulated/0/Android/obb/jp.co.sega.vtc
vs.
source path : /storage/extSdCard/DioDict3B (the example on the supermounts screen shot in google play)
mount path : /storage/sdcard0/DioDict3B
So I was kind of trying to copy how the directory should be...and by the directory that I did, whenever I launch my game its not working....its virtua tennis by the way.....and it says i need to download the extrafile over the wifi connection, though it works fine if I install it in my internal SD and put the SD data in the OBB folder. So, I am assuming it has something to do with the mounting. I have successfuly installed Lidroid File Manager and its plug-in the Super Mount, I can mount and unmount successfuly via the plug-in, only that I cannot seem to make it work.
By the way, I have Folder Mount installed and I'm using it for some big games in the tablet. Would that affect the directory or something if I have it installed? I just noticed there's an "emulated" in the directory, would that do anything to make the lidroid not to work? I did not uninstalled it since I have games which I have already mounted via the Folder Mount and it might mess things up more, so just want to consult few experts here in the forum first. Thanks and more power
