[Q] Mount SMB network share - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to mount a Windows 7 shared folder on the TF. I have tried both cifsmaner and Mount Manager and both keep telling me no such device exists. The share is on 192.168.x.x on E drive in a folder called Share. I have made it accessible to Everyone and I have no problems accessing it from File Expert or ES File Explorer. But I cannot get it to mount on the TF.
Any ideas?
EDIT: Oops! Should be posted in general sorry about that.

Mount SMB-Shares like cifsmanager without root

Hi,
I want to mount a samba share to a mountpoint, I can access with severall apps. CIFSmanager can do that, but only with root.
I won't root my Incredible S. Is there a way to do this without root?
Thx!
AndSMB (https://market.android.com/details?id=lysesoft.andsmb&feature=search_result) worked fine for me on my Inspire 4G and didn't require root.
ps. Sorry about the text only link ... I'd post a QR code but I don't have enough posts yet.
Hey thank You,
but the difficulty seems to be mounting the share to a place below /sdcard, so I can reach it with several other tools.
Thx!
I also wamt to mount smb shares
Hi there
I hope this is the best starting place
I have a HAIPAD M7 MID TABLET PC Android 2.3 8GB
I want to access my nas drive file direct, I need to mount the share, but I know I know only just enough about lnix so would prefer to not root device.
I want the media player to "see" the nas just like a sd card or the music folder
Are there any guides etc
Many Thanks
Ian

unable to write files to external sd card

I have owned a number of tablets but this is the first time I'm unable to write files to my ext. SD card. Anyone else have this issue?
Thanks

I have the same issue when using any 3rd party file manager, but doing such through the built in one works. I suspect I just need to back up and format the card through the computer, try that and see how it works.
I ran into the same issue, but reformatting the external SD have no effect. Whether the system is grabbing hold of the extSD and locking out other apps is as yet unknown. Currently I am attempting to figure out how to root the unit so I can gain access with a better FileMngr than the stock one. Still waiting for the download during the reset to finish, so don't know if it will work.
FYI - My device is rooted and I am using ES File Manager and it still does not work.

Have you format your sd card? I've got same problem, but now it's ok with ES File manager

Are you sure? Try this:
Reboot the tablet.
Before you do anything else, start ES File manager, and immediately navigate to /mnt/sdcard/extStorages/SdCard.
Menu->New->Folder (leave the default and hit 'OK')
Did it create the folder or show an error message?
(This has become a puzzle for me. Sometimes I can read/write with ES, sometimes I can't. It's damn annoying...)

I can't post a link to the original post on another forum that worked for me so I will quote it:
Simple solution for external sdcard write access on Android 3.2...if you're rooted
I've found a simple solution for gaining write access to the external sdcard (/mnt/sdcard2) on Android 3.2. The sdcard is mounted r/w, but the owning group is media_rw which is linked to the WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE permission. Unfortunately, this permission was not required for access to the external sdcard prior to 3.2 so most file management utilities do not request it when they run...meaning they only have read access to the card.
The simple solution, if you're rooted, is as follows:
1. Using a root-enabled file manager, navigate to /system/etc/permissions and make sure you have mounted the file system r/w.
2. Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add an additional group definition for this permission...<group gid="media_rw" />
4. Save the changes to the file.
5. Restart your tablet.
After this change, any apps that request the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission (which includes almost anything that access either of the sdcards) will gain group membership in both sdcard_rw AND media_rw, giving them r/w access to both sdcard filesystems.
Interesting that it requires root to fix. You would think that even the Samsung file manager would be able to handle it, but it doesn't.

@thaloneus:
Thanks for finding and posting that procedure. Was having that excact problem and after making the edit to permissions I am now able to write to the external sd card. ES file explorer now allows writing to the external sd as well as Titanium Backup.
Interesting note: Titanium was backing up to the internal sd. Once the external became available to write to I was able to create a backup folder there and ran another batch of backups.

From what Ive found you need superuser access to the external sdcard to write to it. I've always been able to access the external sdcard with Titanium Backup as the location of the backup was the first thing I changed in its settings when I installed it. Root Explorer can write to it too. The only programs that can't are the ones without superuser access, ES File Explorer is one I have that I can't get its root explorer working, its not requesting superuser access, so it can't write to the sdcard.
Not sure if this has anything to do with the sdcard mounting to a pc as an MTP device instead of MSC or not but really irritated by that protocol. Not sure if this (MTP) is native to Honeycomb or if Samsung wanted the external storage accessed in this way.
Thank so much.

If you're still having trouble with apps not writing to the external sd, you might want to edit that .xml file thaloneus had mentioned.
Once I did that I had full access to write to that card from any app. Took me all of like five minutes to edit and test it out.
I'm having some trouble with this procedure. Like everyone else, I couldn't write to my external SD card using ES Explorer or what not, although the stock Samsung My Files explorer could (and strangely, if I use a Samba mount I could write to it from my Win7 PC).
Anyway I've rooted everything, and was about to edit platform.xml, but I can't save it. I don't have the ability to write to the system folder.
I think I've done the Mount rw thing, ES File Explorer's option to do it was disabled, but on File Expert it was available. For good measure, I also used the app "mount /system (rw /ro)" but even with all these tools, I still can't write to the system directory.
I'm at my wits end, any ideas?

What are you using to edit the .xml file? It may not have root explorer functions.
I used the Root Browser from ROM Toolbox to make and save the edit.
Worked for me with Root Explorer. I have tried most of the free file managers, and Root Explorer is worth every penny to me. It is the only app I have paid for.

i used the free Astro File Manager to navigate to /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml. When I tapped on the platform.xml file I was given a choice of text editors to open it with. When I finished I was offered the option to save the file.

cifs manager help : empty directory

I'm having a very specific problem with cifs manager.
When I mount a CD drive, I can access all root files and see all directories, but all those directories are empty.
I have this same problem when I share a CD drive in 2 Different xp machines, but, No problems in Windows 7.
I tried sharing and mounting the individual folders, but they were still empty. If I moved those same folders to my harddrive and shared, then it works.
From my Android tablet, I am able to browse and open those missing files in Es explorer.
But what I really want to do is mount those files. (I also tired Mount Manager, didn’t work at all)
Anyone know what the problem might be?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks

[help please] Can not access to internal or external memory /sdcard /storage ...

Hello,
On my tablet /sdcard and equivalent folders (/storage/emulated/0, /storage/emulated/legacy, /storage/sdcard0) and all /storage are empty.
In command line with ADB, I see everything.
In command line from the tablet with ConnectBot, ls in /sdcard or /storage gives opendir failed: permission denied. But in root after su, files are here like with ADB.
So the problem is only with the tablet and the normal user.
Before I have tried some apps to move data of some games to the SD card with "GL to SD". It modify the file /etc/permissions/platform.xml. Can it be linked with my situation?
I have a LG G pad 7 with Android 5.02.
Help please!
This is the same problem as this guy: http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/93793/cannot-access-sdcard-internal-storage but there is no answer.
Nobody can help me?
Please, I need my tablet!
I thought there was a lot of experts on XDA, I'm disappointed... :-|
Have you tried to replace /etc/premissions/platform.xml with the original (unmodified) file?
Thank you. Of course, immediatly, I even never boot on the modified one.
But the 1st time permissions were wrong, the .bak has 400 instead of 644 and I didn't notice. The problem appears there and stays even with 644...
I think the problem is the file platform.xml and it's not read at all.
Because I also can activate Wifi or Bluetooth, but I can not use them, and in command line only root can ping (this is defined is platform.xml too).
Maybe the 1st boot with the wrong permissions makes this file been deleted from another file and it's not read at boot... How can I know where this file is called to verify this? :-|

Making EncFS directory accessible to ALL apps

I posted something in General and got no responses. Maybe that was the wrong place. Maybe this is where I belong.
XDA Forums is where the best and brightest minds come together to discuss tech. Someone has GOT to know what to do!
So, I'm putting some files into an encrypted EncFS directory. I'm using EDS Light. The directory is formatted as exFAT (some people prefer the term exOVERWEIGHT). So here's the deal. I can access the directory just fine. I can unlock it with EDS Light, no problem. I can connect to it with my file explorer of choice, FX.
All of that is just fine. But there's something else.
A lot of programs don't have the sophistication of file explorers. They can access the internal storage, the added microSD card, maybe the Root directory. But they can't access the unlocked EncFS directory. They have no way to see it.
So, how do I mount the EncFS directory so all my applications can see it?
Hell, if I could at least get App2SD to see it, I'd be set. I could use it's Folder Mount feature to create a path to the directory. But as it is, the program can't see it.
I know I can get to a lot of important places through the Root directory. I can get to my microSD card via Root/mnt/media_rw/####-####, or to the second partition of my microSD via Root/data/sdext2. But can I do this with an EncFS directory? Is there a path to it?
I know that whatever path I create will only work when the EncFS system is unlocked. That's what I want. I want to only be able to access it after I've put the password into EDS Lite. But once the file system has been unlocked, how do I make a path to it?
Someone HAS to know! This is XDA Forums!
