Can you delete the stock browser after root and not have any problems

It should be perfectly safe to remove the stock browser. Unlike IE on Windows for example, nothing in Android actually relies on the native browser code. All applications wishing to transfer to your browser go where you tell them to.
I imagine you may have some funky issues later down the line.

Well I don't wanna be mean, but I am gonna say this is false. I have had G1, N1, and now G2x i have removed alot of things from my phones and even my latest the G2x. And even though you shouldn't have any problems with removing system apps remember now that your root you should make sure to back-up your phone, because you could mess with some setting or god knows what and be stuck in a bootloop.Also, instead of actually uninstalling apps you could always freeze them to make receiving ota updates easier(Cause gingerbread is right around the corner)
P.S. didn't realize you have a G2x too! beware of removing the my t-mobile and my device apps because they might throw you into this weird force close free for all.

Okay, so my Droid X has been rooted for about a month now and I've been going happy-go-lucky with deleting bloatware off of my device. Thusfar I believe I've uninstalled the following: Amazon MP3 player, City ID, Kindle, News, News and Weather, Weather, Terminal Emulator, My Verizon Mobile, Skype, VZ Navigator, and Visual Voicemail. My first two issues relate to this.
#1- I went to Titanium Backup the other day I noticed as I was scrolling up and down the list that contactsunconnected.apk was frozen. I only have the free version of Titanium Backup so I don't even have the capability to freeze apps, so this baffled me. Anyway, when I noticed it I unfroze it and went along my merry way. When I restarted my phone afterward I noticed it was frozen again. I found out that it re-freezes it every time that I restart the phone. So...what the heck does that file even do? And is it okay to leave it frozen? Or should I unfreeze it ever time?
#2- AFTER I'd uninstalled all these apps I happened to be browsing some forums and I was reading that it wasn't a good idea to uninstall these apps, but rather..."freeze" or "rename" the apps so they wouldn't run, but they would still be accessible later on. I read the reason for them needing to be accessible is that if you wanna receive an update (like Gingerbread) in the future you still have to have ALL the bloatware that came stock with the phone. How difficult is it to get this bloatware back? Does anyone have a link to these files?
#3- This is slightly unrelated to the other two issues, but how do you guys feel about the stock Droid X file manager vs Astro File manager? I refuse to be redundant and have two apps that are so similar, but I've noticed that each one has some different strengths that the other doesn't. 3. I used to use astro, but once I got my droid 2 and titanium backup, there didn't seem much of a point to having astro any more.
4. What are 'your apps'? What do you mean by 'carries over'? If they came with the x, then they might rely on blur. If you downloaded them from the market, then they should work fine in fission. Either way, no custom rom will have everything you want, and moto roms will have more than you want.

#4- I understand that some of the motorola stuff won't carry over, but some things that I installed from the market didn't carry over. Clockwork Mod was one of those and I had to redownload it just to be able to flash back to stock. Also, some of the other stock apps like Gmail, Email, and Messaging that I DO like didn't carry over. It was frustrating.
#5- Can you give me a link to this?

Not sure about number one at all, I never use that function in titanium.
Likewise, for number two, I'm always running a custom rom, so I never have to worry about that.

Working and downloading flawlessly! Even has a record of all my past downloads. The sync is almost instant from the time I click install to my phone.
Installing apps to device through market works like a charm, but now the big question, is there any way to uninstall apps a similiar way?

Not at the present time from what it looks like. Google would have to make a script to be sent to your phone to start a removal process of the app you choose to delete. Doesn't seem hard to do, hopefully in the future. That would make it totally awesome! ( not that the Market is not already!) Well within Google's ability.
The app push doesn't seem to work on a Custom ROM. It only has the apps listed that I installed before updating from Stock, it has my last used date as last November, and although it says it is pushing apps to my phone, they never show up.

Something like that is already implemented. As far as I know, Google is able to force a delete of an app from all devices, if it for example contains dangerous code or illegal contend. So the feature is already there, they just need to configure it for personal use.
But I figure, that they have safety-concerns about something like that. (like accidentally deleting an app from a wrong device and loosing all app-data)

I'm using Cognition 2.6b (I know I know just tired of flashing right now and its been working perfectly all this time) on a Samsung Captivate.
The market is working perfect for me. Shows all my installs even when they were installed with a custom rom.
Dont forget that your titanium re-installs from different phones wont show up.
I was just wondering, why if you delete certain stock apps (Or Bloatware for that matter), they cause FCs or instability in general? Are they tied into the OS somehow?

Bloatware can be removed when you root your device through the explorer. But you can download custom roms with an unlocked bootloader which usually have no bloatware those are two ways of getting rid of the carrier crap. Your choice.
It's also dependent on your device & what type of rom you're running. There should be a list of safe to remove apps for your device/rom.
If you're iffy of something, try freezing it first with Titanium Backup. If all goes well then you can uninstall it.

EDIT: Figured it was worth mentioning that I don't own an Android device yet (But it'll either be the Epic 4G or the Sidekick 4G [I lurk in the latter's forum]), so I'm trying soak up as much info as I can receive.
So when I get either device [Even though hands on experience always trumps reading things off forums] I won't waste time figuring things out.

Hello all.
I am new here and posted in the General folder because it wouldn't let me post in the android folder. My phone started doing this 2 months ago. Originally it started when I downloaded an app and then I got a window pop up and said 'Package file is invalid'. Now I am on my 3rd Triumph (returned for other issues) and the problem is still around. It seems like the problem follows my gmail account around. I only get this error with some of the apps. I need to know how to remedy this issue. I have read the other thread about this problem here

My Triumph is fresh out of the box ( just got another one yesterday, 10/1).

Most of the things mentioned in that post regard a modified rom, which you probably don't have (in other words, "my phone is stock"). The biggest question is whether you have tried restarting your phone lately.
The second biggest question? Where are you installing your apps from? If from the market, here are my troubleshooting recommendations. If not, correct me here or feel free to PM me.
Market acts goofy on the Triumph, and for that I blame Android. Try going into Settings> Applications> Manage and go to Market (usually under Running apps). Clear cache and force close, then see if the problem continues. Second time around, clear cache and clear data and force close, and try again. If problems still persist, uninstall all your updates and then see what your phone does.
I rather like the old Market because it didn't have that overpriced junk in it. Either way that refresh might be necessary.

I have not restarted the phone lately mainly because I just got a new one yesterday.
I use only the market to download apps.
I did all the things you said in the order you said them and I am now running the old market but it still doesn't let me download certain apps. With the old market the pop-up window doesn't say 'package file is invalid' it now says 'Download was unsuccessful, please try...' and I cant see the whole error message.
I haven't been using the Market long enough to know the one. I am new to the android game.

There is that way, but you will be breaking your warranty, since you need CWM and neeed to be rooted
Other Ways:
Go to settings, then applications, then go to market, uninstall updates(if you have)
or
Get titanium Backup(if you can), uninstall market, pull the Vending apk from http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=320287&d=1272913729 inside /system/apps, put on SD Card, and install it.
If titanium backup wont(MAYBE NOT FULLY SURE) let you uninstall, then you need to be rooted.
Absolute Last Option that probably won't do much good is, factory reset.
Titanium Backup requires root anyway. Becoming rooted isn't hard, as long as you can download and run the app Gingerbreak 1.2. It isn't on the market, of course.
Although still, I find it strange you cannot just open certain apps. Are there any specific ones that do or don't work?

Yeah! If you use Gingerbreak V1.2, you can root, then unroot when you are done, they will never see it was rooted. ANYWAYS, they never check if your rooted when you return or exchange a smartphone, not even Virgin Mobile checks....

I got into crap with Best Buy because they checked, actually So yes, I would recommend getting rid of as many traces as possible... but yes, Gingerbreak is the meanest and cleanest method available on any of the three VM Android phones. At least, as of now.

I highly doubt that they dont check to see if someone did something to their phone that would void the warranty. Nevertheless I would like to not root the phone at least until I am sure I am keeping this one.

Does the T-Mobile G2x come with the Carrier IQ rootkit installed? If so, I'd like to block it. I'm running a rooted Android 2.2.2 (I like the camera) and don't want to do anything that would prevent me from possibly upgrading to ICS should it become available. So where do the stock rom users stand?

Well they did have LogMeIn apps installed in the stock roms, but didn't have actual launcher icons for them... kinda scary.
CM7 based roms won't have anything like this installed as they are built from the ground up. Stock-based roms, which I don't think so, still could. Would be nice to get a real answer.

From my results the main apk for ciq was not found and nothing ran nor was logged. So I guess no, the g2x stock doesnt have ciq installed. Anyone else confirm this?
Well you can always check and or get rid of the Carrier IQ thing that tracks your information.
You need a rooted phone to do so and then go here to download the app because it is not on the android market.

**Update: Having trouble with the app on my g2x with stock rom/faux froyo kernel.05. It keeps giving an "Error copying Busybox" so the App won't update to the pro version that you need. Waiting for Dev response
Does not look to me like CiQ is on the 2.3.4 Rom, but it is possible it may be on the 2.3.3 Rom... Most concerned about LMIRescue.apk and LMIRescueSecurity.apk ... both of those are troubleshooting apps for T-Mobile which in the past has been suggested stands for "LogMeIn"... sounds a lot like ciq or similar. These files were not included in the 2.3.4 Tracfone leak. I have not, however, actually checked a running 2.3.3 with the tools TrevE offered. I did check my copy of the 2.3.4 and it did not find the CiQ service or binary. That is not to say it may not be obfuscated in such a way that TrevE's tool isn't aware of yet though.
However, one thing to note is that a couple of the app usage logs it pulls up I am pretty sure are NOT related to CiQ, and have been around in almost every build of Android since the beginning - specifically the log that tells how much time you've spent in each app. What is IMPORTANT is, is there an app on the phone that's sending the data. That, I can't say for sure.
I saw that article on CNN and was like effing great. After I rooted my phone and saw that logmein crap I froze that right away, lol. Somehow didn't sit with me. Android is great, but let me tell you do NOT trust Google and what they do. I am convinced there's something underlying and sinister about them.

No CIQ in 2.3.4 but it collects usage stats and periodically sends them to Google. Not sure how to stop that behavior. Also, many of the apps in the Android market use Google's SDK to collect their own usage stats and the apps send them to the devs. They say it is to improve their apps. That is why most apps have permission for network data, even though the app doesn't require network data to work.

Its A work around. But I install Lbe and droidwall or prdroid. With pdroid and Droidwall you can lock down pretty much all services (need root). Lbe is OK but not nearly as good as pdroid. This of course would be ideal for your random Apps that abuse internet use or private data
