Just saw a series of tweets from @P3Droid saying they're looking for a soft-bricked D2G or Pro to test SBF files on. He said he's in the Phoenix area so do yourself and everyone else a favor if you've got a phone to send him and get that sucker fixed!
Edit: At 11:30 p.m. EST on 1/2/2011, @P3Droid tweeted that they will be publicly releasing the SBF files for both the D2G and Pro within the next 12 hours. I'll post a link to their posting once it's up. Note that they caution you to grab the stuff ASAP as it will likely be taken down by Moto via C&D (not that there won't be plenty of mirrors after that)
Edit2: It looks like links are up on Team Black Hat's forum. I assume since this is now for free there is no issue linking to their forum but if anyone better versed than I in the rules disagrees, please say so and I'll take the link down.
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...id-2-global-sbf-file-2-4-29-full-rsdlite.html
Again, thanks to Team Black Hat for the great work they do and for the decision to rapidly release this SBF publicly. Hopefully the short window between it being kept exclusive to their app and the public release will not deter folks from supporting the cause.
bout time. This will really get the modding community going for the global finally. Hear that all they need to do now is test it and they'll be set.
Yes this is very good news.
See my post down further as to see why I say this isn't good news.
Hint: This smells like a scam.
i hope that this is true, then we could start seeing a lot more modds dfor the d2g
Of course, 2 days after i send my brick in to verizon. good news tho
If you check the twitter account it says that the phone must be mailed just like the band unlock guy... I smell a scam and I for one do not recommend sending any phones by mail to anyone you don't know. You're just asking to have your phone stolen.
I wouldn't trust anyone who says that you must mail the phone to them or that you must meet them in person. If they really want to be trust worthy they will just give you the link to the file straight up. If they needed testers then they can setup a private channel on irc or something.
This is not a scam.
All of the members of TBH have NS(Non Secured) flash dev phones because that is what we personally chose to spend our own money on.
We also have consumer hardware test phones for other models but not the D2G or Pro.
We cannot test the SBF files we got recently on our phones and cannot afford to purchase these models at full retail to test the files.
We are well established in the community and have provided virtually all of the leaked SBF files for all of the Droid devices in existence.
Our record of community service stands for itself and has no comparable parallel.
Everybody wants these files and we want to release them so users who have soft bricked can recover and everyone can breathe a little easier modding these phones.
I would ask anyone who questions our motives how much of their own money they have spent on providing the community with such valuable resources as these files?
Anybody?

I do apologize as I'm new to having a Motorola device and thus do not know all of the developers yet for this brand of hardware. I recently came over from an HTC phone which has the Unrevoked team behind it for rooting purposes and so forth.
I only claimed that this seemed like a scam as I'm cautious about these short of things and your request asking for phones to be mailed seems very much so a tail tell sign of a scam. Again I apologize if this is your preferred operating procedure.
If I had better information about your group/organization then I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it. If I had a soft bricked phone and had this information before hand I would have been more willing to help out. Though I personally still do not want to ship any phone via the mail. I would prefer an in person meeting where this test could then be conducted.
I too understand these phones are not cheap and it's not easy for developers to obtain consumer devices for testing purposes. Since these phones cost so much is why I'm cautious when it comes to someone asking for a phone to be mailed in.
I think the best way to test whether its an sbf or not is to make a new thread with links to it and a disclaimer, if it works, hey, that's awesome, if it doesnt, who cares, the phones its being tested on are already softbricked anyhow.
My question is, what if it is the sbf? Besides fixing softbricked phones, what more can be done with it?

We will not release anything until we have had a chance to thoroughly test it for ourselves, not all things we get are worth releasing.
To be honest this thread started good but really went silly rather quickly. Neither Cell nor myself need to defend the work we have done for the community and to state that we are scamming is asinine. As Cell stated we have lots of devices in many different flavors, they are not consumer phones therefore we can not always test things that we would like to.
I'm sure you know what TBH does and what we have done, if not you can most likely find 1 or 2 posts about us online somewhere. This is not a question of us not knowing what the files are, we know what we have in hand therefore that is not the question being asked. The request is for a consumer device to test this on.
So if you know someone with a phone that is inoperable have them contact us, so we can help them out and in return help out the entire community.

Has anyone offered to send a phone to you yet? Where are you located?
No, I went and bought a new D2G from VZW tonight so I can manage this myself.
Once testing is complete we will decide when and how to release the SBF file.
You're welcome...
sorry if I came off as a bit "silly" i do know about tbh and their contributions to the droid community. i was just suggesting an alternative way of testing this, but i understand your concern about releasing it publicly, it may cause more harm than good.
while im here, might i ask if the 3g mobile hotspot patch can be made for the d2g, seeing as how you have a d2g now? ive been waiting a while hoping that someone can make the patch for the d2g.

Hey guys, sorry for the harassment/doubters. Unfortunately, the couple of posters who got on here were too lazy to follow the links on your twitter account to the website where it can be clearly seen just how crazy active you guys are on the Android scene and how reasonable you are with these types of requests.
Thanks so much for all the work you do to make Android phones do what they're supposed to do (stupid carriers with their stupidity). You guys do great work and I, for one, appreciate it a lot! Looking forward to the release

This is very generous from your side!
I don't know about others, but I think we should establish a fund or something like that to cover such expenses for our development teams. I am totally willing to shell some money for having the peace of mind of having the SBF file for my D2G laying around ready shall the need arise.
Right now (without SBF) I am reluctant of touching anything on my phone due to lack of safe way out. I am not in the States and exchanging the phone will cost me considerable amount of money and efforts.
Not sure if I should start a new thread for this as cellzealot already bought the phone, but I if this gets somehow organized, I am in with $20 to offset the expense. $20 is much less than what I would have to pay to ship the phone anywhere for whatever reason.
cellzealot, does your team have a paypal or something we can use for the purpose?
I have a Droid2Global that boots but is stuck at the stupid Backup Manager screen and doesn't allow me to go anywhere else. If you want, I'm more than happy to try the SBF out on that D2G if you send me the SBF. PM me if you want me to try it.
@leobg: Thanks for the offer of support.
We really don't care for the practice of plastering donate buttons all over in every forum where we post...so we don't do it.
The best way to support TeamBlackHat and the continued availability of these files and our other development projects is to purchase our app in the market for the extremely reasonable sum of $2.00 US. It is just a downloader that provides our users with access to all of the various leaks and other files. There is a filter that only presents content for the specific connected device.
There is also a donate button at the top of the screen for further support if you are feeling generous, thanks. The files are made available via the app exclusively for some period and then posted publicly for everyone later on MyDroidWorld. http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/forum.php
That is our way of providing a perk for our supporters and also assuring that all content is made available to the entire community.
This also prevents us from being accused of "selling leaks", despite the fact that those making such accusations have no clue whatsoever how these files are acquired or at what cost.
This is what we do and have been doing for most of the past year or so since the advent of Motorola Android phones with the original Droid.
There is no profit in this at all...trust me...it's just a way for us to absorb some of the cost of our passion for these devices and serve a unique and critical function to meet need for these kinds of files.
Nobody else has consistently proven to have access to these files except us and we have released every flash file for every Motorola Droid device in existence with the exception of two that RootzWiki released.
We don't do a lot of self promotion and prancing around on forums attracting attention to ourselves, that's not our way.
Thanks again for your interest and support!
Just sent you a donation for your work on the droid 2 global sbf. Your work is much appreciated!
THANK YOU!

According to this article, Samsung might be well on its way to using CyanogenMOD 7 on its smartphones. I use a custom CM7 on my HD2 and love it. It can only be a good thing for Samsung phones.
http://pocketnow.com/android/cyanogenmod-in-the-works-for-galaxy-s-ii-thanks-to-samsung
Interesting and very cool! Hopefully others will follow...
i would definitly buy samsung if they used cm as stock it would make modding so easy
Wow. Just goes to show that CM is amazing. Congrats on the recognition you all!
wow, really nice!
Worth to write about it, thanks!
I think people are taking this the wrong way. Rather than Samsung selling the phone with CM7 preloaded they are simply encouraging the community to support it with custom ROMs...in this case Cyanogenmod.
Am I wrong?

Exactly.
They gave one guy a free phone, they're not officially supporting CyanogenMod.
Call my cynical but I think this is just a shrewd piece of marketing.
It curries favour with people who have an interest in modding and will probably boost sales of the Galaxy S2 in such circles, especially with those who are firm CM fans.
It's no different to giving away freebies to 'celebs', except this might actually boost sales for them.
It's a good ploy. I certainly wouldn't buy a device now unless it was CM supported.
Sounds like Samsung is using this as a tool to add backdoor pressure on carriers to stop holding back updates and loading the roms with crap. Pretty crafty on their part to directly appeal to the mod community.
Sent from a device powered by hamsters.
So.... does this mean no locked bootloaders/easy root exploits? :-D
EDIT: Would be nice to see HTC follow suit. I'm not bound to any 1 company but the original incredible was and still is (thanks in part to the CM devs) an amazing bit of hardware
Good on you Samsung
I applaud Samsung in supporting developers this way and supporting us consumers in being able to further customise our phones.
Whatever the reason is behind Samsung doing this as long as we benefit thats a good thing.
I hope then that these customised ROMS and MODS etc will always be free.
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S II after using HTC phones for so long.
Good on you Samsung
Cheers
Aussie
Well Done Samsung Komap Sunida Samsung
Still won't use another Samsung product after using a Vibrant for several months.
Congrats to both Samsung & the CM team.
its very nice for samsung to not be afraid if someone would sue them lol
Google once issued a C&D to cyanogen.
If samsung would give their proprietary code to CM, hmm i don't actually know the legalities but hey.. i'm sure somewhere there's an agreement breach?
hehe but negativities aside
Go CM team!
great and very good karma samsung!
+1
if samsung use cm7 ..... there will be no 3g video call anymore right?

Yup. It's amazing how much a hardware donation can speed things along.
Also, I think that the SGSII has been available internationally for nearly as long as the Infuse, and has sold significantly more units.
Actually, from the looks of it, supposedly the UK got SGSII on 5/1 - we got the Infuse on 5/15 - SGSII has been around LONGER and as stated above, Samsung donated a unit to a CM7 dev.

samsung made a statement that they would aid in porting cm7. so I'm sure Samsung engineers and the cm team were in contact as well as the donated phone.
the infuse has fewer users, fewer devs and the cm team doesn't have one. we could raise money for them but instead our donation bounties went to talented independent devs with little association with the cm team. we will get it, nopcodex and razor are working on it but it takes time.
The Galaxy S II community has 10 times as many devs as us. And a few of their devs are a lot more experienced than any of our devs. That's why.
This thread seems like it'd be damn near offensive to the devs we have in this community.

Yup. We have some devs pretty close to the goal, despite the fact that:
1) Despite what the OP claimed, the SGSII has actually been out longer than our phones (Someone forgot that countries other than the United States exist)
2) Samsung donated an SGSII to the guy that did the i9000 bringup, and we haven't really gotten ANYTHING from them in terms of dev support.
None of the teamhacksung developers have an Infuse 4G. If you want CyanogenMod7 on the Infuse 4G, you need some developers who are motivated enough to do it and have the wherewithal to get it done. CyanogenMod isn't like a company that assigns developers to projects, gives them the hardware etc. It is all volunteer work. If you want CyanogenMod on a device, you need to volunteer to do it and get it done.

How about a bounty for ICS. I think anyone who can get it on our phone deserves some cash. I'd put $10 into the pot. Is there already a bounty on that somewhere or should we start one? I'm all for rewarding Devs hard work and I'm sure it would help to give em an incentive.

I don't understand why developers left this phone for inferior devices. After using Super Amoled Plus I simply cannot use other smartphones and since the galaxy S II never came to Verizon, the charge is the only device on the carrier with this quality display. I've tried rezound and razr and they are junk. I'm sure the nexus will be a little better but its still pentile and MY eyes can tell the difference. Weird that the best device on the carrier (even with its single core) just got ditched....

It's Both!!
I pretty much feel that development on this phone is dead in the water. Other than Danalo, I've seen virtually no official movement from any other dev's since September. Danalo is going to the GNexus and although he says he will still support the phone, I don't forsee much movement. That's not a knock against him or any developer. Lets face it though, there hasn't been much developer interest to begin with. A big part of this is due to the fact that there hasn't been source. Verizon Sammy phones are notoriously slow at getting source. Those of you reading this might say, "But the Fascinate eventually got source AND an MTD CM7 port was done. Why can't this happen with the Charge?" The Fascinate was different. You had a couple of very talented dev's sticking with it for one. For two, there weren't so many new and exciting phones coming out. Sure, there was the TBolt that drew away some
dev's and teams, but now, you have the first ever Verizon Nexus Google based phone coming out and many other (quad core phones) technologically advanced phones on the horizon. What's the incentive to stick with this phone? More importantly than this, what can even be done with it right now? Not much. You couple this with the track record of there not being many touchwiz based Roms in the past to begin with and well.....you see what I mean.
I don't mean to be a downer. I just think this is realistic. I am in no way discounting what Gummy, Danalo, Imnuts and others have done. I appreciate their efforts with this phone but it seems clear to me that the majority of those efforts are over and have been for a while minus Danalos contributions.
Again, I'm sorry but I see this phone's development as virtually over with. I hope I'm wrong but I believe it enough that I'm leaving the phone soon as well.

Imnuts is still actively working on this phone and just posted the newest Infiniti beta on twitter yesterday as well as continues to try and get gb kernel.source to work
Jt hasn't said he's stopped aosp work at all but ics source drew him back to the fascinate for awhile
And fwiw I'm thinking of picking up a charge of eBay or something after the.gnex drops cuz they all most likely bottom out in price... if that's the case then I'd work on it, or at least help imnuts maintain infinity
No bounty is going to bring developers to this phone, your best bet is to contact Rootzwiki and ask for more Charges to be given to developers. Of course, if jt gets the ril working for aosp, that will help bring interest from others. Its still a great phone, especially since the GB update.
As long as VZW keeps launching new/more phones it dilutes the developer pool even further. Unless you get the nexus, you are unlikely to have massive developer support. Gone are the days when the D1 and the Incredible were the only android phones on VZW....
On the other hand, the lack of seasoned developers has caused an increase in the # of ppl learning the basics and there is a new batch of developers-in-training. Don't be surprised to see more contributions from them in the near future.
A bounty will do nothing-developers do this for fun. They accept donations, but most do not wave around their collection buckets.
We have imnuts, Danalo, supercurio, aeroevan, and numerous themers. And maybe imoseyon too-although he doesn't have a charge anymore.

It's not too hard at all to follow you on Twitter or Rootzwiki. I've frequented IRC in the past but didn't care for the experience. At any rate, maybe I've been under the wrong impression. I've always thought your IRC/Twitter releases were alpha or test releases. I've seen you comment in the past on Twitter when referring to your Infinity Rom that "here is such and such Rom but waiting for it to be tested before making it public" so I've always thought those releases were test releases. Since you've stopped posting Roms in the forums, my assumption was that either you weren't developing or your work wasn't ready for public use.
At any rate, thanks for your work man!

I leave stuff in IRC mainly because it is faster for me, and the users there tend to be more experienced, so if there is an issue, they can usually figure it out for themselves. I don't want to post something that will have a hot boot or FC when you do something common with the device, and sometimes, the releases are a link and I'm off. Posting something on a forum brings in several hundred more users, many of which barely read anything in the topic or even the first post. I haven't had the time to even begin to troubleshoot, answer questions, or provide feedback really to people not in IRC, and even now my time is somewhat limited with the holidays.
How about adding a goggles + account I believe that would be much easier any way whatsoever is is urgent twitter so I can follow

I'd really appreciate it if everyone here could show there support and spread this around.
Petition: wwwchangeorg/petitions/lg-and-t-mobile-update-the-lg-g2x-lg-p999-to-android-4-x
Please also visit the lg forums and voice your opinion.

Were bound to get noticed eventually. If it fails at least we kinda tried to put a thorn in LG's side xD
Thanks guys, please no negativity, im just trying to help us all out after all.
(BTW had to remove periods after www, change, support, and lgforum since im noob and can't post links )
There is a difference between negative and realistic. IMHO it would be a waste of time considering nexus 4 and EULA for the g2x.

I think doing nothing is more of a waste of time. It's really not that hard to just go and comment at least on the lg forums.
If you go to the lg forums you will find a this written by an LG employee:
RyanLG (Official Rep) 4 days ago
"Nope, those are just the crickets from another thread I recently posted. There is not much else to add to this 160+ comment thread that has been of popular topic for the past year. All I can say is the Thrill finally received a software update to fix many of it's previous hardware and software issues. Nobody saw that coming in a million years and what do you know, it happened! And ever since the complaints have subsided substantially about that particular device and the praise for it is at an all time high. I fully understand the complaints and frustration from all the G2X owners, you deserve some sort of resolution. The best thing you can do at this point is let your voice be heard whether it be here, but more so to LG customer support, the carrier or anywhere else. I will escalate this thread to the top with hopes of some sort of resolution. A similar process benefited the Thrill, so who knows."
What he said is what im doing, trying to get people to voice their opinion about the phone.
Also what he said about the LG Thrill gives me some hope.
If you don't wanna sign the petition i understand but at least go to the official lg forums and "complain".
It may be a long shot and will probably never happen but why not try at least, like RyanLG said, "who knows"?
Maybe just maybe if we get a lot of people to show their frustration and support for an upgrade a miracle will happen.
Won't know for sure unless we try is all i'm trying to say
Also, since development is practically at a stand still what else is there to do?
Rummage through xda forums everyday hoping for something new? x.x
Maybe we can reach out to other developers with lots of experience to look at the radio problem or build Hackfest roms? We basically only have Maz left and we can't expect him to do everything for us.

Maz is put through maintaining a gingerbread kernel on top of a new project that some users wanted, fixing bluetooth calling. There were some other projects maz had set put to do also. Such a nice guy but lets look at this situation realistically. This phone is a 'sunken ship'.

That'd be awesome if we could contact other devs to help with the ril issue. Problem I see there though is that I'm sure many of those devs are working hard on other projects. Plus, the ril issue is something that is really difficult to resolve (if even possible?) and Idk if more devs would even be of help at this point but nonetheless the more devs working on this phone the better.

I agree maz is super awesome! To me it seems like he's the only dev currently doing anything. Im using his latest beta kernel and my phone is not only snappy but also has awesome battery life so much props to him.
And I have accepted that this phone is a sunken ship but I will never lose hope
The phone is 2 years old at this point in the States. The end of life of the device through T-Mobile was January 2012. The hardware was pretty much a prototype version of the current Tegra 2 platform, and we'll never know the proper way to code for it. The RIL issues will never get fixed, nor did they have a shot to be fixed. If you're still on the device, you're either like me and too poor to afford an upgrade, or somehow stuck in a deal for the phone. If you used an EIP through T-Mo, you can pay it back early instead of monthly and get yourself a new one on the plan.
In the end it comes down to knowing exactly what phones are going to be popular for developers. Nexus devices and the Galaxy line are where you want to be if you want good support. That's where all the action is and will be for some time. The HTC One shows some promise, but with AT&T locking the bootloader, that's one less carrier brand that can be unlocked.
Pick wisely and don't bother with this stuff. Getting your hopes up will only cause you more anger when the truth comes around.

Interesting. Are you saying that the entire Optimus 2X line of phones was not based on the Tegra 2 platform used on other phones, but rather an incomplete prototype (probably because they were rushing it to market), or that this is only true for the G2X (aka P999), hence the differences between it and the other models?
