Factory data reset - T-Mobile LG G2x

So I've seen a few posts that suggest a factory reset will fix the battery drain problem with this phone...I am just curious as to why or how this would help. Other than not a very good battery I love everything about this phone.. thanks in advance

its got something to do with gsm polling too often.
the factory reset changes tjat value and helps with battery
but there are other issues with battery drain.

So will I notice a significant change in battery life if I do reset the phone?

Battery life.

Sorry to post another thread, but I'm just curious...
My battery life sucks I can barely make it through the school day without my batter dieing. So anyone got any suggestions that I could do to get better battery life?

Shut it off. Your at school.
If your flashing roms just make sure you charge to 100 percent and clear battery stats in recovery/advanced.

Well I listen yo it during school. And I'm not flash happy.

uh what. stop being an asshole. you didn't help with anything.
OP, battery life depends on a lot of things. Go to settings>phone info>battery usage and it might give you an idea of what is using your battery. Maybe you just need to turn down the brightness on the display, or turn off some things like Bluetooth or GPS.
Wiping battery stats will simply delete a file that caches some things about the battery. Sometimes when flashing different roms and themes the stats can get messed up and they need to be wiped.

I have GPS and wifi turned off and my brightness is always at 25 or 0% and thanks for the backup haha and your help.

Battery Use

Hello I'm new to xda forum but I've been reading this forum for a while. I decided to flash weapon 3.0 and everything works great besides the battery use. It never wants to reset even when we try to charge it. I've seen some people say something about wiping the battery stats and I was wondering how you do that. Sorry if this has been answered but I searched but I couldn't find the answer.
Reboot in recovery then go to advance , wipe battery stats

Thank you. I appreciate it

wiping battery stats DOES improve battery life!!

If people have been wondering...
I got a 3800mah sedio extended battery like a month ago and so far its been better then standard, when i got home i had about 20% more battery then before.
I thought i wiped my battery stats with app but now it turns out it didnt, i wiped it using CMW and i can already see the improvment.
Normally when I would use it for about 30 minutes moderate usage i would be down to about 94%... Now i only go down to aboit 97-98%
Wiping battery stats is the quicker alternative to using a ROM for a while.

You need to have CWM installed. Instructions are found here:

To the OP, I dont think it would actually improve battery life. When I had a Motorola I had this issue all the time. When I would get to 1% it would sit there for hours. I would wipe batter stats and it would be more accurate. Giving you the illusion that its better.
What a bunch of BS. delete this nonsense thread.

I personally thought wiping battery states just let's your phone know the exact battery level if it got messed up. So in theory you aren't getting more battery its just your phone now knows the right right battery level. Lol

The battery stats is just a file that gives the info in the settings / battery stats .. this is a myth that's been disproved already ..

Please do a bit more research before believing things

When I started out changing ROMs a few months ago, I used to wipe the battery stats and do the full charge/full drain thing. I've since stopped and can't say that I notice any change in how quickly the initial drain goes back to normal (or even that there is a an "initial" and a "normal").
That all said, if there is, in fact, truth to the idea that the battery drain indicator just needs a while to become accurate on a new ROM, it seems entirely likely that wiping stats and doing a full charge/full drain cycle is really only useful because of the full drain part of it providing the ROM time to calibrate.
I believe it has more to do with the physical battery getting juiced properly when you first get your phone. After that a mod shouldn't need to reflex the battery, but wiping the stats would give you a more accurate percent if it seems off.

There's an explanation of what the battery stats actually are. Your 'evidence' is purely anecdotal. That's all.

Ding ding, we have a winner.
That source is tough to refute too.
Im not sure if its my new battery (generic thats SUPPOSED to have more mAh's) but the new 4.04 battery life just SUCKS. Trying it on the OEM battery to see how it compares after wiping th stats.
Everyone needs to stop responding to this thread! It's already been stated that it is all nonsense, so for the love of god people, stop bumping it!

Well I WOULD have posted in the devlopment thread, but since Im a N00B and all I have to post my problems somewhere...

generic batteries are garbage
I had the same battery drain on my OEM battery. Flashed back to 2.3.5 and now I have a battery that lasts!

Yeah, you've got something going rogue on you. May be an app, or corrupted app data, or something harder to track down. If it's something you don't mind dealing with, a factory reset may be in order. Otherwise, you would try and see if it's being cause by wakelocks. Using Battery Battery Stats can point you to PWLs or KWLs, but if that yields nothing, the factory reset may be your solution. Sorry, it's hard to give a definitive answer on this.
What version are you on, OTA ICS, Leak 1 or 2, or GB? ROM, if any? When did this start happening, and can it be isolated to any indicator(s), such as opening a certain app, using WiFi, bluetooth, etc?

Turned off all data connection and still problems and ics official and I swapped batteries and it fixed it so could it be a bad battery Possibly?

I can't say for sure that it's a battery issue, seems unrelated to this stage occurrence. I'd have to say it was software related, but if the swapped battery has cleared up the problem, and it decides to reappear, you can try what I suggested above to track down wakelocks. You may still have to resort to factory resetting, but you'll have to be the one to make that determination...

Okay thanks and also is it that is normal to have a little worse to battery life on ics then on gb? My ram used use to be 320 now it's 520? Something doesn't seem right

Do factory reset help with poor battery performance

Since upgrading from jellybean to kitkat i have poor battery performance and in recent months i just want to find out what is happening with my phone but there is no any answer. As i read from some sites factory reset may help my phone from battery draining. I know this is the pain for everyone but after doing that i think it is worth it. Some of u may think i do not have any point to stand my status but i actually take alot of screenshots to see whether factory reset helps or not
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
Yes.
I had a severe drain after updating to KitKat of about 1% per minute with the screen on. Did a facroty reset, it's back to normal.
