[Q] AT&T InspirG 4g not showing H+ - HTC Inspire 4G

I just flashed my Inspire 4G with Android Revolution 4G 3.5 and the recommended radio and all went fine. But I have a 4G data plan and the phone says "3G AT&T". And on my status bar it is showing "H" not "H+" as it did before I flashed it.
I notice sometime on boot up that I see a red notification on the screen that says something about "Limited service" ( or something like that).
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this matter for me.
Thanks,
HoboZ

If I'm not mistaking I think some ROM don't show the H+ and some do

thanks for the reply. I will test my speeds and see if it is just the rom not showing H+ of 4G like the stock does.

The "H" or "H+" thing is purely cosmetic.
If you notice that speeds on Android Revolution aren't as fast as your stock ROM, check out this thread.

I too just flashed Revolution 3.5 and this is completely normal. Speedtest shows I'm getting 2.3 Mbps up and 1.3 Mbps down (and that's with only three bars of signal) with just the "H" icon showing. As I understand it the AT&T ROM will actually show H+ for anything faster than EDGE, so it's just a gimmick.

Thanks, that puts my mind at ease. I also ran speed tests and I And am getting the same speeds as before, maybe a little better.
edit: getting 2.6 mbps down, 1.2 mbps, 4G in my area sux.. But thats what I got before.

Epic failure! (Warning: pointless thread)

Drove by the T-mobile headquarters in Bellevue, WA today and decided to run a speedtest for the fun of it. No hspa+ reception at headquarters! Tried at three different spots around the buildings...
So proud I joined "America's largest 4G network" LOL
i have the "H" symbol on my mt4g but i say its more like "E". download speeds are 20kb-40kb max, so when i'm home i just connect to my wifi.
Yea, the problem is that the H doesn't mean anything. Have you tried mobile signal widget (market)? It's pretty cool cause it shows you wether you're on hspa+, 3g, or edge. I kept thinking I was on hspa+ cause of the H until I realized it will always show H even if I'm on 3g.

hey i tried mobile signal widget in the market and it never shows 3g or h or anything. just shows signal bars and thats it. so hopefully there will be a fix for this.
Try the Network widget it works good and shows all signals you might be on.

[Q] Any one having problem with 4G after using LeeDroid

My phone is not showing 4G or H after flashing LeeDroid. It's always connected to 3G, even in places I used to get 4G. I am not sure if it has anything to do with LeeDroid but I had flashed it back to stock and 4G came up fine. Then I flashed LeeDroid again and it's back on 3G.
Any solution? or LeeDroid would show 3G even if the phone is connected to 4G?
I have toggled network (GSM only and Auto). Turned Mobile network off and on multiple times.
Using a Sensation 4G (and 4G Simcard)
I had this same problem. Did you try flashing the new kernal? worked for me.
Edit: I've attached the kernal in case you haven't flashed it

well since these roms are not based of tmo 4g stock rom, they're gonna show you are connected to 3g. IF you are actually in an area of "4g" then the H will show. so im guessing you never really had "4g" before?
also, i too do have leedroid and it sits on 3g, but when i load a page or do anything thats pulling data (netflix for ex) then the H shows and stays up there.
and my H speeds are consistent to what my "4g" speeds used to be
i would try and do a speed test and just make sure
Hi, I put in leedroid on my sensation and did the mistake of letting my battery depleting, now it won't boot up , wondering if it's the rom or my batteries dead

Difference between H and H+

Just want to ask, what is the difference between H and H+ on Inspire 4G..
H = 3G?
H+ = 4G??
cheers
Yes. The ITU classifies HSPA+ as a 4G technology even though it will never hit their own definition of 4G speed. Wikipedia has a great article about the different 4G technologies. Would post a link if I weren't mobile.

there is no difference for this phone. In other countries they don't have this magical H+ that AT&T thinks they need to fool their customers with and call it 4g
H and H+ are essentially the same thing when it comes to this phone and Roms. Roms that originate from desire hd land will indicate your 'H+' connection with a simple 'H'

Yea if you're talking about the icon, you can't really rely on that. Currently ATT has a 3G network which is UMTS. They improved this network a few years ago and were able to push faster speeds and deemed this their HSDPA network, widely referred to as 3.5G. They've just started rolling out their new network, HSPA+, which, like biglittlegato said, is technically a 4G technology. Now they're about to start rolling out LTE, which is also a 4G technology, but capable of faster speeds then HSPA+
But again, different chefs use different network indicators, as do different bases that ROMs are built off of, for the different networks. If you want to know what network you're actually connected to -
Settings - About Phone - Network and look at Mobile Network Type

Ok, its a long story, but for a while I didn't have a data plan activated on my work phone (the Inspire) all of the sudden it is on, I now get the "H" with CM7 Nightly #179.
So I ran speed test on the Inspire and my OG Droid (VZW 3G), here's some interesting results
So the Inspire (H) got 264ms Ping, 3584kbps d/l, 1679kbps u/l
OG D1 (3G) 228ms, 0.10Mbps d/l, 0.33Mbps u/l
I haven't traveled much since I just got data, but two questions, does anyone know if CM7 shows H+? 2nd, if not, what ROM's may actually goto 4G?

no CM7 does not show H+
and i dont understand why its so hard to comprehend. the symbol means literally nothing. there is no secret 4G network that only the inspire can access. its the same network its been for years. its an icon. it means literally nothing. they all get "4G"
im going to say it again, because this question comes up all the damn time.

Thanks, part of my confusion may have been b/c because my D1 showed in Mbps, while the Inspire showed in kbps. Call it a brain fart, even though the speedometer showed properly during the test how much faster the inspire was, it threw me for a loop.
Since I never had data service with the stock I only had the user's manual to go off of, it shows H+ but no H.
That may be the cause the confusion for most too.

OP: I see you are running Android Revolution. I've noticed that it doesn't display H+ whereas the stock rom does show H+. I just rooted and installed ARHD and was thrown off by the plain "H".

H symbol vs 3G - difference?

hello,
Kind of a noob here... I have an att inspire 4g, rooted and android revolution rom. At home I have what I was told is 3g service (and have an H symbol). When I got to work (out in the country) I have edge service (E). When I came back into town the other night, my data symbol went from E to 3G, not H like it usually did... Now this morning it was back to it's usual H. Can someone explain the difference between these, and is this normal or a glitch in the rom?
Thanks!
Search please...this topic has been discussed so many times around here...
I got your 10 char right here

I did search on the Q&A portion, seems like I'm not alone on this, but I never found a definitive answer/solution. I did see that the 3g symbol will result in slower speeds than H. (personally I thought the 3g symbol looked cooler than the H though).
It hasn't really affected me at all, and only happened once, so it's not really a big deal, was just curious.

The symbols mean absolutely nothing. You can make the symbols whatever you want them to be. If you want to know what network your phone is connected to, go to Settings-About Phone-Network. The Inspire connects to these networks (on ATT) and corresponds with the following icons:
GSM shows a "G" icon
EDGE shows an "E" icon
UMTS shows a "3G" icon
HSDPA shows a "H+" icon on ATT ROMs and "H" icon on other ROMs
Supposedly the Inspire connects to HSPA+ too, but no one's ever seen this as a network type. Again, you can change these icons to anything you want. See my tutorial in Themes/Apps (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300389)

On my Inspire it's settings-about phone-status-mobile network type (maybe this depends on the ROM?)

Hsdpa is commonly referred to as 3.5g. Umts is 3g. Hspa+ is technically 4g but doesnt touch LTE speeds. Hsdpa and hspa+ are designated with either a H or H+ icon...depending on the ROM

Sorry for reviving an old thread but is it normal to keep switching between 3G and H? How come it doesn't make it's mind?

[Q] Cm7.. where to go from here.

OK, I am running stock Cm7
and its good.. not great.. but good.
screen timeouts seem to be ignored in the settings.. or I cant figureout how to get them to work.
With the data indicator at the top.. is H good? or is that 2g? I used to get a 3g indicator .. now with cm7 all I am getting is an H. I never see the 3g anymore.
SO.. am I having an issue with data connection? or is H just different then stock firmware where i used to get a 3G indicator.

No, H is HSDPA, which is 3G. What T-Mobile, and a few other companies, 4G is HSDPA+ which will show a 4G indicator on your phone. I don't get why T-mobile gets flak for their 4G, no one else in America has real 4G, and I still get over 8 MBPS on my G2x, higher on my SGS2.
