[Q] Replacement G2X coming for $200...what if I keep it? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hi, I have a G2X coming from TMo as a replacement and they charged $200 for it on my CC. I have 45 days to return one of the G2Xs but what if I keep both? Will they charge me more or just leave the $200 charge on and call it a day?

You sure they said this charge is to cover if you don't return it. Would be cool to sell one.

no pretty sure you would get charged especially since the phone just launched

If its coming as a replacement, then it would seem something is wrong with your current device.so why would you sell it to someone else knowing its defective?

This thread looks like a big NO-NO for XDA forums...

i work for tmo
where did you process your request (store, phone, asurion), and for what reason.
your post is too vague for me to let you know if you'll be charged any more or not

Phone. My current G2X is rebooting like a beast but it might be software. If the new one reboots as well then its not hardware so that's why I'm asking the question. Its not like its free I'm paying for it. Just not sure if its only that charge or more after.

45 days to return one of the G2x's??? I have done about 8 replacements in my stent with T-Mobile and they have always told me I have 7 business days to return the phone there replacing. I just did it with my Vibrant last month and said if it wasn't back within the 7 day period they would charge my account a $454 restocking fee. I highly doubt there giving you 45 days and will only charge you $200 for a brand new device.

Good News about the first batch of G2X's

I shipped out my second replacement yesterday for exchange. I got this e-mail today:
Your order is currently backordered. You will receive another notification when your order is in stock and shipped.
It looks like either 1. They took my individual concerns seriously and are specifically getting one directly from LG for me, or...2. They finally sent back all their units and are receiving a new batch ---hopefully without defects this time.
Will be interesting to hear how your new one is. I had 2 for a time but their build date was only 4 days apart so probably same batch. Both had reboots although I really feel it's still software and not hardware. None of the reviewers who reviewed this phone including cnet and Engadget noted any reboots and they know what they're doing but probably don't load a ton of apps on the review units.
Sold out everywhere. They didn't think they would because of the same launch date as sidekick

still some left in philly. still have some days left in my 14day grace period. but i think this one is a keeper.
Just wondering, what kind of problem you had with your last g2x? The bleeding screen issues?
theres still a few left here in slc, utah. in fact im the only one who has returned my g2x to that particular store at all lol 5 times! seems like other stores havent been able to sell many due to the fact all their reserves are going to returns.

When you are getting these replacements, is it just the phone body that they send you? Or are you getting the whole retail packaging?

my email say's 20 days. maybe that's for retail price only? i still have a few days left. but, i had the black status bar and saw no bleeding. mine was minimal to begin with. if it gets worse though, i'll warranty exchange it later.
Would be nice if a new batch is coming soon. My tmo rep swears a second batch of phones will take 2 months minimum but we know how reliable info from them is.
You guys know that the 14 days is only for being able to return it and cancel your contract, right? They phone itself has like a 1 year warranty on it.
I keep seeing so many people talking about swapping the phone out for another before their 14 days is up and it confuses me as to why the 14 days really matters just for getting a warranty exchange.

Probably a lot of folks are hoping to get the phones exchanged within 14 days without paying shipping to tmobile (warranty exchange) plus the phones you get from tmobile are usually refurbished unlike store phones which are brand new.

This is how it works:
If you pay $199 w/ contract then you have 14 days to return the phone for a refund less plan minutes used and restocking fee. You can exchange the phone and keep the plan but you will have to pay the difference in price or recieve a refund for the difference.
If you paid retail w/o contract or with flexpay then you have 30 days to return the phone less restocking fee, or exchange for another phone with the same difference policies.
The warranty from LG is 1 year regardless of where you got the phone from, how much you paid, and the $5.99 (soon to be $7.99 once they include a personalized version of Lookout Mobile and free express shipping) Premium Handset Protection Bundle. During this time period you can call into customer care and get an exchange of the same phone less the battery door, battery, and all accessories that came with the phone. After 3 warranty exchanges within 90 days you are eligible for an equivilent exchange. Meaning T-Mo will provide you with a list of phones that you can choose to exchange your handset with. They are supposed to be comparable to the features you have now, but rarely are. When warranty exchanging you may have to pay shipping costs, but in most cases if you raise enough hell about how it's not your fault that the phone isn't working properly they will waive that fee.
I hope this clears up some of the confusion. For the next year every G2x sold is under warranty, and LG must replace it for free...
UNLESS YOU RETURN THE PHONE WITH COSMETIC DAMAGE, WATER DAMAGE, CUSTOM ROMS OR KERNELS, THE WARRANTY SEAL IS BROKEN, ECT... BEFORE YOU WARRANTY EXCHANGE, RETURN THE PHONE TO STOCK! WIPE EVERYTHING! OR ELSE YOU WILL BE CHARGED $130 FOR OUT OF WARRANTY REPLACEMENT!
Say Thank You.

Charge is now -$15, how much did you guys pay?

Well the charge is now $0.01 + a free $15 Amazon gift card(-$15 in my book). How much did you guys pay for your Charge?
I got mine at the end of June from Costco(to get locked in the unlimited data) for $179.99. Came with the 2 year warranty, a couple of crappy screen protectors & a leather case belt clip that covered my headphone jack so I couldn't listen to music while using it. I feel kind of ripped off lol.

Paid about $250 once all said and done. ($200 for Droid X2 when signed contract, paid 500 for Charge on eBay, and sold X2 for $450) Was cheaper than taking the X2 back, paying the restocking, and then paying 300 for the Charge.

No there were major hardware/software issues with the Fascinate like missed calls/voicemails with no notification, horrible GPS, spotty reception and the like that weren't being fixed or at least there was no ETA on a fix or update... I guess the uproar from the Fascinate community made VZ adopt a temporary policy to trade in the Fascinate for a 'similar' different phone, choices being the Inc2, DX2, and Charge

About $180. Does Costco give you a return credit for what you paid at the time, or what it's worth currently?
Truth be told, I didn't really want the charge... But I wanted the unlimited plan and I didn't like any of the other 4G phones. They said at Costco that it was no problem because they return phones for up to 90 days and something better should be out by then. I only have about one month left before the return period is over... And nothing is out -_-;

Bionic is expected to come out in about 2 weeks. Aside from the Prime that's the best it's gonna get. Thing is, it's a Motorola phone so chances are it's going to have a locked bootloader meaning development isn't going to be great.

If Ashurion is out of stock of your phone, they will replace it with another 4g phone if you ask.
My brother's Fascinate broke a couple months ago, they replaced it with a brand new Droid X2 just a week after it came out.
I'd recommend aiming for the Bionic.

And a new digitizer is only 30. I have gotten ripped off by asurion too many times.
I can't believe people still pay for insurance. It's a scam and way too expensive for the service they provide.

Plus deductible. If you drop a phone and truly break it, it's probably because you didnt have a proper case on a $600 item. But most breaks occur to the digitizer....$30 and extremely easy to fix. Your local mom and pop computer shops will throw those things in for you for less than your deductible.
I'm not trying to knock anyone for paying for insurance...but those companies aren't in it to lose money. And everyone forgets about their warranty. We've sent a couple phones back for repairs and get them back within 3 days of HTC receiving them.
But losing a $600 phone...well that would be the only good thing I can see coming out of it. But cmon...if you lose a $600 phone from being careless ya kind of get what you deserve. Laptops cost less than that now. Gotta hold yourself to some kind of responsibility.

j/k...bummer your screen broke. Glad you got your replacement already!
Well now that you got your replacement phone, this would be a good time for you to do one of those screen replacement kits so that you have a backup phone and then you might decide to even drop your insurance on your current phone to save $$$.
You don't get to keep the old phone, you have to send that back. Otherwise, definately would have fixed the screen and kept as back up.

How hard would it be

How hard would it be to replace the charging port on the phone? Mine is on the brink of death and a whole new phone isnt exactly in the card right now so I thought about just replacing the charging port, but I dont know what all would go into it.

Replacing it wouldn't be that hard for someone with some skills with small electronics. If you or a friend have those skills should be pretty painless. If not use that link that eellio sent you or find a repair shop in your area.

That was my reason for looking to get it fixed. I have pretty good soldering skills and I woulndt attempt it.
Juls if they will warranty it I would go that route. I figured it was out of warranty.
Side note, has anybody attempted to get mobile odin ported to the sgs4g? That would do away with the need for a cable.
The mobile Odin will only work if you don't Odin back to a non rooted stock.....must have root to use it .....I looked into it and will eventually let it run its 30 min long log to hand in for a request for our device

If you went with insurance I hope you told them you lost phone? By doing this it allows you to keep your phone for parts or even use it as a tester phone so you can try to flash risky stuff without worrying about being left with a dead device you will have spare. Hope you understand what I'm saying. If you say phone has problem you pay 130 and ship back your phone to them. If you already told them there was an issue and they want phone back wait a day call them back and say the phone is now lost
NOT stolen this way the phone can't be locked out hope this helped

I have not tried after I received the phone but have called a day after I put in claim and no problems. It's worth a shot I mean it could really happen. I always tell them I lost it why should I pay 130 to give my phone away and then they fix cheap and sell it high. Even if the device is broken there are still good parts that you or someone else could use
Side note you can put old phone on ebay and probably get at least 100 dollars to help cover the insurance cost.

I should of seen that coming. But who is screwing who, as phone company charges 600 for device then they require a 2 year contract and phone is only warrantied for one year so you buy insurance at 10 a month for 24 months another 240 we are now at 840 plus when phone breaks you pay another 130 for a grand total of 970, and you get a refurbished device. Do what you want. I am not condoning fraud but for that price I'm keeping my original phone. Ins company are nothing but legal scam artists

If you pay 600 bucks for a device on contract then you are doing it wrong. I paid right at 400 for the phone and car dock OUT of contract.
I understand what your saying, however it is insurance fraud. I disagree with people doing this and will speak up every time. Plus Im sure your comment and my replies will be reported to a mod and get this thread either locked or them removed. Because xda doesnt condone this and doenst allow these type of conversations.
Food for thought, if you are caught doing this it can also cause you to be non insurable as well as criminal charges or for however long the insurance company feels necessary to report you as a risk for fraudulent claims when attempting to get insurance in the future.

I agree with you and understand where you are coming from, but it makes me wonder...
If you were to flash your device and hard brick it, and you have insurance. Would you call Tmobile and say "I rooted my phone and was attempting to load third party firmware on it when I messed up and my device will no longer turn on."?
Or would you simply say your device does not turn on anymore?

I sat for three days with a semi hard bricked Droid X that I got the day after they released. I was about to buy a new phone when moto's version of odin was leaked and I was able to restore it. I also thought my Optimus V was beyond restoration and after hours and hours of tinkering got it back alive. I had paid for insurance from best buy and thought about using it but personally I couldnt do it.
So to answer I wouldnt even call them. I would start saving to replace the phone. I broke it I have to eat it.
Those numbers were meant to be general speaking but that is just my opinion I'm done with this topic

[Q] Will I get charged if someone else in my family activates my old phone?

My One S was having problems so I called T-mobile and they kindly sent me a new one. My sister's old phone broke can she use the one T-mobile sent me or even the one I am using now *the one with the issues*? Or will I get charged 500 something $?
It is likely blacklisted. She might get a month or two out off it, but who knows what they will do to you re:fraud
I don't think they will, iv had a few hand me down phones chucked my way from friends that have claimed of the insurance and my gf is still using it today.

I work for tmo, as long as you aren't required to return your defective handset then keep it.
If you are supposed to return it and you don't there's a hefty non return fee.

The default time frame is a week to have it dropped off at UPS. She can use it in the mean time, but if you don't get it returned they will charge a non-return fee.

So to sum things up if there is no return fee TMO wont charge my sister even though she actually didnt buy the phone? They arent going to charge my line the MSRP of the phone?
If they didn't say send it back, or if they didn't supply a return bag or label then I would assume its yours to keep. Unusual for them not to want it back though, it's a lot of money to throw away.
