I use my mytouch4g as a storage device connected to my car stereo.for AAC and mp3 playback. My Kenwood sees it as a standard usb drive once I turn on usb access on the phone
I was reading reviews about the G2x needed some sort of driver to see the sdcard on a pc.
Has anyone connected Their new G2x to the car stereo usb port yet to see if it will work okay
Thanks

I tried it in my Infiniti and it said "check USB or iPod connection." It said the same thing for my G2. If your Kenwood saw the HTC phone my guess would be it should see the LG phone too. Maybe a T-Mobile store will let you try it in the parking lot with their demo unit.
Here are my findings: When connecting the phone to my kenwood system via usb it does nothing more than charge the phone. HOWEVER, if you go into the main settings menu and go to "sd card & phone storage settings" and then check the box "Mass storage only" then connect your phone to the stereo it then see will show the "mount usb storage" option in the notifications panel and allow you to mount the phone as storage. Once I did that, my stereo read the drive. Hope this helps you.
Really appreciate the test, ill get mine on friday

I have a Pioneer FH-P8000BT head unit which supports USB mass storage devices. On stock eclair, it would find my external SD card, where all my music is, and play the files whenever I connected my Captivate(USB settings set to mass storage).
Now, on Andromeda, it says "USB N/A" when I connect the device. I have tried every combination of USB settings that I can find. I checked the phone to make sure that it says "Mass Storage On" or whatever, and even tried turning it off.
Anyone have any ideas how to troubleshoot this?
I can still play tunes over BT, but I liked the sound quality when playing on USB, and I like that my head unit displayed the song name and artist.
I have an avic f720bt and it wont see my phone either.. Im running Paragon 6.0 (2.2.1 based)
I had given up hope to have it connect like my winmo phone did...

I'm going to bump this nearly year old thread in the hopes that you found a solution and just forgot to post it here...
I'm using a Pioneer MVH-P8200BT with similar issues. I've been struggling with this for at least a year but now that ICS is coming around for the Captivate I'm wondering what has been accomplished or can be done now.
OK, so when I try to go plug in my phone to my PS3. Nothing pops up at all. Not on the phone. Same thing happens with with windows. I tried using a different USB cable. No dice. Same thing. Nothing. No dust is in the USB port on my phone. Same thing with everything else. I am running Vallhalla 1.3. What should I do?
Reboot and fix permissions & reinstall USB drivers for Samsung 4g. If USB is broken a USB sdcard reader will work for putting stuff on the sdcard.

Same happened to me as a result of "gravity incident" with cable plugged in. New phone arrives this week after $20 processing fee.
settings/applications - turn off usb debugging?
^^ and make sure it is in mass storage mode.
USB debugging is off. And I have me phone set to always ask.
i remember trying to play a video from my phone on a ps3 once. i dont remember how i got it working though.
-try media mode instead of mass storage.
-also give allshare a chance, it might meet your needs
I just got a 2010 Infiniti G37. It has a USB port, but no aux input and no Bluetooth audio streaming (wtf Infiniti?). It reads and plays iPods and iPhones just fine. I can not get it to recognize my android phone at all (Motorola triumph running stock 2.2 rooted). It will recognize flash drives though. I think the problem with the phone is it takes a few seconds to click 'connect USB storage' and then 'ok' before it reports itself as a mass storage device. By that time the car is already reporting an error. I have tried with debugging on and off... Makes no difference. So, is there any tweak, app, or hack I can do to force my phone into USB mode (without the prompts) every time I connect it?
This is actually a pretty important feature to me and I'm disappointed I can't get my phone and new car to play nice. Might even consider switching to an iPhone if there is no other option. Please help.
Thanks.
the MIUI rom im running has an option to auto mount when plugged in to a usb port. hope that helps
Is there any way to connect an mp3 player to my xoom and manage my music without using a PC? I'm specifically asking about an iPod shuffle. My xoom is rooted and is running rana kernel. When i plug in my shuffle, my xoom registers that I have plugged something into the otg cable but does not open it. Is there an app for that?!

Yep, there are more apps like usb mass storage watcher otg and drive mount.
I have both apps and they recognize that there is a device connected via USB but it doesn't give me Amy options to open it or do anything really. Drive mount allegedly mounts the device but again, does not give me any options after that.

The question is, what does the Xoom think it is? An external hard drive? How is it formatted? Can the Xoom recognize the music file format? I wouldn't think they would be compatible.
so here's the thought:
i have a few old android phones i've collected over the years. i also have a headunit in my car with a rear usb port with which i routed a cable to my glovebox to have a usb stick with my music on it. what i would like to do is replace that usb stick with my old incredible 2. this would not only replace the usb drive, but would also give me the added security of having a hidden phone, always powered, in the car. this would be useful in the event that the car was stolen, since i could reactivate the phone via verizonwireless.com and then use an app like cerberus to do pretty much anything with the phone remotely. including tracking, recording audio, etc. there are just a few kinks i'm not sure how to iron out.
number one, although the phone will last probably a few days with no power, i'm anticipating the battery taking a beating from being in the car 24/7. my concern is that it'll turn off, and if it's stolen i can't expect the perpetrator to turn it back on for me. is there any way to enable an android phone to automatically turn on when it's attached to a power source?
number 2, how can i set the default connection type to 'mass storage device' so that the car stereo automatically mounts the SD card for playing music when the ignition is turned on.
thanks for any help, as well as any other useful suggestions for this application!

under settings, there should be a "connect to PC" section, where you can select "disk drive" as the default connection rather than "charge only".
If you want to take this a different direction, how about turning it into a dash cam?

you know, i'm starting to think something is wrong with the phone. i did find that section, and set the default to disk drive, but when i plug it into my computer all it does is charge. the mac doesn't recognize anything is plugged in, and the phone doesn't recognize it's plugged into anything. i reflashed a stock rom and everything, same results. could the usb port have gone bad in a way that the charging still works but data doesn't?! seems unlikely...

that's a neat idea too, especially if i could mount it somehow that it wasn't visible. i've been trying to think of a place to hide it at least so that it can see into the cab to take pictures/video using cerberus, but i'm not sure where i could mount it to do this. my main objective is added security for car theft, so having the phone somewhat hidden is sort of important to me. i live in philadelphia, so the paranoia isn't 100% unwarranted.
For outward facing, maybe behind the grille? Inward facing would be hard to hide. Maybe in the door.
