Cannot adjust brightness, or screen timeout settings.. can you? - T-Mobile LG G2x

On my new G2x I cannot adjust the screen brightness, the option is greyed out and does not work in settings. I've tried rebooting twice. The only way I was able to lower the brightness was to use the widget and select the different levels (or auto, and auto didn't seem to work)
also screen timeout delay, is a setting I wish to have to choice to choose, it is also greyed out on my stock G2x. I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this or if they are able to adjust theirs?
Thanks

Apparently if you skip thee setup this happens. Or so I read in another thread.

Yes I can on mine. You probably have a defective device. I would take it back.

So from what I've found from this and other reports on this forum is that LG REALLY didn't want you to skip the initial setup. I assume these are glitches, but man, that's a pretty big oversight.

lol, wth.. time to do it right this time with simcard and and full setup i guess.

have this issue as well. tried with a fresh setup with no success.... sigh.

REFORMAT!!!!!!!!
it whips data/factory reset
it will bring you back to full set up when it reboots
if you dont know how please pm me i cant find link but i just did it and confirmed it works!

Try changing it through the T-Mobile My Device app under "Quick Tools."

no dice. ten characters

Same issue here, device wipe and full setup did not help.

They really need to get a firmware update out for this and the Cell/Wifi drain issues.

I can do it on mine.
I just had to disable auto brightness.

I just fixed this problem. Just follow the initial steps when you boot up from fresh. The most important step is to insert a sim card and that will enable the brightness and screen timeout option.

Like from when the phone is factory reset?
I have an LG 2X (basically a G2X) and skipped the start up part because I didn't have my sim activated (thus no internet or anything on it). My plan was, root the phone - which I've done, unlock it - waiting on the code, and then activate the sim and go back and do the set up stuff once my phone was at set up.
However now I see the brightness is having the problem described in the first post so I'm wondering if I should: factory reset (can I do this after it's rooted? should I unroot first?), should I unlock the phone or will the factory reset lose the fact that it's been unlocked? If I unlock should I factory reset after or can I just install a rom, will a rom fix this issue?

solved
you should insert your simcard, I had that problem before and after I insert simcard, it fixed
let's try

[Question]WidgetLocker

I was trying a great lock widget WigdetLocker lately on my evo froyo. But I noticed one thing I dont really like, hope it's just me not how to setup correctly, hope you guys can help me out.
I realized the app i was on before lock, it's gone after unlocking. For example, I was commenting some friends status on facebook, maybe have to leave for a min, then widget locked my screen, then i came back, and unlock the phone. it just leaded me back to home screen. it's really different from what i used to before i installed widget. I mean, unlock the phone, sense just directly backed to the app before phone locked.
So it's just me, who didnt setup correctly, or it's some con the widget has for current widget. Anyone can provide some help please?

I checked, there is no something i can set there to fix my problem.
I didnt say something wrong with screen timeout. The problem I have now is that when I unlock the phone(under widgetlocker), it cannot bring me back to the screen i was before i locked phone, or phone automatically locked.
i also have widgetlocker running on my evo and it takes me back to whatever app i was in before the the screen turned off. that is how it worked for me right away, i didnt have to change any settings to get it like that. if i were you i would try uninstalling the app then installing it again and seeing if it performs properly after that
I tried uninstalling this program but the skull unlock screen is still on my phone.. how can i get it back to the factory unlock screen.
UPDATE...
SILLY ME... it was a different app

HTC Sensation: Possible solution of "phone doesn't sleep" and "power button" problem

HTC Sensation: Possible solution of "phone doesn't sleep" and "power button" problem
Hi every body,
I was getting irritated and extremely fed up of basically two problems of my htc sensation:
1- The phone didn't automatically turn the screen off. The screen would remain ON and wouldn't automatically lock itself. For example, i use the phone and then i will place it at a side expecting that first screen will be dimmed and then phone will automatically lock itself. It wasn't happening since a very long time (I don't remember the beginning of problem), even when screen timeout setting was enabled. I also observed that if at one time i set the brightness level of display to be automatic, next time i check it and brightness level was always set to be at maximum level.
2- When i pressed the power button to lock the phone, the phone often doesn't go dark. It went dark for a second and then became ON again. I had to press it a number of times until it goes dark. Similarly when i wanted to unlock the phone, i had to press the power button multiple number of times, until it gets unlocked.
Basically i was trying to solve the 1st problem. I went into settings -> applications -> manage application. I checked for each installed application whether it has following in the permissions:
System tools: prevent phone from sleeping
Following applications had above mentioned permission, so i removed them:
xda
ebay
mobile voip
daily motion
sports tracker
Calorie Counter - MyFitnessPal
imdb
Photo Editor
speedtest.net
whatsapp
yahoo messenger
Surprisingly after removing those apps, both issues 1 & 2 were totally gone. The phone was automatically locking it self (it still is). So for me problem number 1 is totally gone now.
However, regarding second problem, i tested it like 100 times locking and unlocking the screen by pressing power button. The behavior was absolutely normal. Then i checked the brightness level of phone, it was set to maximum, i set it to automatic. As soon as i set the brightness level to be automatic, the 2nd problem somehow reappeared.
Now if i set the brightness level manually, the 2nd issue doesnt reappear, but when i set the brightness level to be automatic, power button issues reappears.
Sorry for such a long post but I hope may be this post helps someone, also i would like to ask the experts the justification of such behavior of phone.
I am using stock rom and android version 2.3.4, sense version 3.0 and software number 1.50.206.1
This definitely needs a bump!
I was thinking of possible solutions as well, but this one makes sense. Maybe it is a flaw in how that permission is handled? I don't know how to program, but if any of you clever rom hackers are around, maybe you can try tweaking this? I was thinking that it was maybe something to do with the hardware button itself, sending off multiple signals to the phone telling it to lock and unlock right after due to the shoddy power button design.
My main issue with the fix in the original post is that I use a lot of apps that require this permission, and apps are kinda what define how useful your phone is (aside from making phone calls, that is). If there was a way to fix this issue by either tweaking the "prevent phone from sleeping" permission, or maybe just trying to add an input delay that doesn't register any power button presses until half a second has passed or something.
Like I said, I don't know what is possible to tweak with android since I don't know how to program so I might just be talking out of my butt, however, I do like this phone, it just has this one major power button flaw that really annoys me!
#2 doesn't occur in ICS Roms. I'm always on auto brightness.
Some ROMS added some apps may let your phone awake automatically when you close the screen,so it is the right way to move some apps. Using ARHD ICS and Insection ICS ROMS ,#1#2problems never happend.
Basically i would like to stick to original stock rom. I know i can avoid these problems if i use custom roms.
@Tekuno
Let me tell you, i didn't delete all of those apps which were using that permission "prevent system from sleeping". I only deleted those which i mentioned in my 1st post. Among those, i installed "yahoo messenger" again and 1st problem started happening again. I removed that app, problem gone. For me it's the case of hit and trial. I can't definitely point out one specific app which cause the problems.
I think there is really a flaw in the way this permission is handled by operating system of the phone.
I would also like to keep with the stock rom if possible. I figured it would only be a few apps that would be causing the lock screen issues, I am currently too lazy to go through all of the apps and figure out which ones are causing it.
I'll wait patiently for the ICS and Sense 3.6 update and see if that helps.
i have both problems too. About no 2, i always tot it happens after using the stock camera app which forces the brightness to go maximum and sometimes after exiting, there is some bug that doesnt return setting to automatic. Just a hunch but not sure :s
Do you have "Extended quick settings" installed ? and on a custom ROM, if so then i guess you need to check the "Screen On" option in the extended quick settings dropdown window.
You must have accidentally pressed it and activated it instead.

Touch key brightness

Hey all, I'm trying to figure out how to get some brightness settings for the touch key brightness to stick. I've used LG 2x Notifications and O2x Touch Key Brightness, and they both work up until the point where i put the phone to sleep by tapping the power button. As soon as I wake it up, the brightness goes straight to zero unless i head back to the app and raise it up again. And if i uninstall the apps, the brightness on my keys stay off until i re-flash or reinstall the app again. Help!
My issue is a little different but similar. It worked fine for me on every basic gingerbread rom, but when I switched to a cm7 based rom the lights change with the brightness of the screen. I turned off all the light notifications but it did not help.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

On SinghUI but it doesn't have built-in LED notifications, if that's what you're getting at.
If the setting from one of those apps doesn't stick, then it's most likely being set by your ROM or Kernel. Have you tried checking if you get the same issue with other ROMs?
@jcbofkc That's a built-in setting that can't really be changed unless you get a custom ROM or Kernel cooked up to remove the link between the brightnesses.

90% sure the ROM doesn't have built in notifications. I'm noticing now that very rarely the settings do stick. Perhaps there is a way to force the app to stay in memory?

That wouldn't work. All that those apps do is write a number from 0-20 to the text file:
/sys/devices/platform/star_touch_led/wled
in your root file system.
When you read the file, it shows you the current output to the LEDs (from 0uA to 2000uA).
When you write to the file, it interacts with the Kernel and sets the brightness.
The Touch Key Lights type apps, all they do is when you move the slider they write a value to that file, and that's it. The only reason it wouldn't stick is if your ROM or Kernel is changing the value in the background. For example it will set it to 0 when you turn the screen off, and then it should set it back to wherever it was before when you turn the screen on again.
The closest you could get is to take the source for LG Touch LED Notifications and modify it to set the brightness every few seconds or something, but that probably wouldn't be too good for your battery life.
Based on your symptoms it appears that either your ROM or your phone doesn't really handle the modifying of the brightness very well. It looks like SinghUI does use a kernel from CM7, so I don't think your kernel is the problem. I'd suggest flashing the most recent CM7.2 RC, and seeing if you have the same problem there. CyanogenMod will change your LED brightness based on your screen brightness though.
EDIT: Ignore all that for a moment, try this first. It is a post from January 21st in the SinghUI thread, so it might not work now, but go ahead and try it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21652744&postcount=293
Also I'd suggest posting in the SinghUI thread as everyone there is using your ROM, so they might be able to help better.

Thanks for the link. It turns out that the ROM does have led notifications. However, disabling them didn't help the problem. :/ the g2x has just been an awful experience for me! :/

[Q] How to manually set the time?

Hey guys - searched, didn't find anything.
I'm spending some time overseas for work. I have my phone with me because I use it for a lot of things besides "phone," and anyway I have "wifi calling" when necessary.
But wifi calling doesn't adjust the time, so the clock is way off right now. I cannot figure out how to adjust it, and therefore using the phone as an alarm clock is a challenge. I'm using a countdown timer to wake me up instead...
Is it POSSIBLE to manually set the time? I dug through all the settings and couldn't locate it anywhere.
Thanks in advance!
It seems you are on stock (or hopefully rooted Gingerbread ROM), since you have wifi calling.
It has been a while for me since I ran a gingerbread rom, but if memory serves me right
there should be an option in Settings to adjust date and time. Just un-tick the box that
says something like automatic time update, thus activating the greyed options which allow
you to change the time zone..
If that didn't work, and your phone is rooted, download the free app called ClockSync
which updates your clock. (similar to windows time update server).
Yeah, rolling Valhalla Black. Would love to put ICS but I travel a lot and need the wifi calling.
Like I said, haven't been able to find "date and time settings," but failing anything else I'll look for the app you mention. THX

Issues with oneplus one after resetting it

Hi. So recently with my oneplus one I have been having issues (location services not working, text messages not sending/relieving, and mobile data acting up a bit). I decided to perform a factory reset because I figured this would probably be the best way to just start over fresh and possibly resolve some of the issues. Most of the issues were fixed, however I was incredibly disappointed when I went into my settings. Half of the options that I could once modify before I reset the device were now gone! To name a few: the notification bar brightness slider, the vibrator intensity setting, the hardware button brightness, the customized screen colors, and the customized lock screen shortcuts..and that's just to name a few of the important ones. I'm wondering what's going on! Is there any way to get these settings back on my oneplus one? Has anyone else had this issue? Is it because of the cyanogen fallout? It's really frustrating. I didn't realize how much I took those amazing settings for granted. I would have just dealt with the issues if I'd known this would happen. Let me know if anyone has any idea..i would be so so appreciative.
Don't know if its the same thing but there is an advance mode in about phone in settings that allows more modifications to be made.

Are you sure that you signed in with the same email as before? Mine were all saved under the email that I used. Otherwise I'm not sure. Sorry! In the future I'd always recommend downloading Dropbox and turning on the automatic camera upload synching so if anything ever happens you'll still have them forever.
