I appreciate the link. But it's not what I'm looking for. I need to original stock rom that I can flash through the boot loader with the built in recovery screen to return a phone to stock. Same as having the PD98IMG.zip for the inspire, but for the aria.
I know sometimes I easily overlook things, but I'm having a hard time finding this, hence this thread.

I don't think you can flash back to stock rom through recovery. You can come close with attn1's liberated aria 2.1 but it is not "from the factory" if that is what you are looking for.
Check out this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881634
Check out the section on un-rooting your phone.
BE WARNED: If you wind up flashing the official 2.2 firmware from HTC you will not be able to root your phone again as it stands now.
I'm pretty sure you can unroot your phone.
Sent from my HTC Aria using XDA App
U need to flash it through your computer but search for HTC aria stock 2.1 ruu rom make sure it is not 2.2 or else you will get no root.
Signatures are fancy.
You can flash it through HBOOT. Just extract the rom.zip from the RUU executable, rename it to LIBEIMG.ZIP and put it on a gold card.
Check the wiki all the stock Tom's are in there

I'm moving from a Samsung Captivate to this phone very soon. I was just looking around to familiarize myself with different things about these two phones.
One thing about my device (Captivate) that I love is the Odin software that allows you to flash back to stock. Is there anything like that for the HTC Inspire 4G? Or any way to get back to stock no matter what state the phone is in (as long as it's not a hard brick)?
Also, what is a Gold Card? I've seen the term used everywhere with absolutely no explanation! And what is s-off'ing your phone do?
Thanks
There is no app like odin but its really hard to break a htc device. I have bricked a captivate with bad odin flash and have never bricked a htc phone.

But how, if I wanted to, would I get back to stock? Like if I flash a custom ROM (let's say CM7), how would I get back to stock?
And still, what's s-off and gold card?
I also haven't seen anything on tethering (Mobile AP... I use this all the time on my Captivate).

Yes all you need to do is flash the ruu which is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952224
Then simply turn S-ON use bubby's one click here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406
S-OFF is turning the security off so you can flash custom roms.
The gold card enables you to root the phone and turn s-off.
hope this answers your questions.
edit: I also think its flashing with CWM is a tad better then flashing with odin because you backup and recover your rom exactly as it was. All you need a computer to do is put the rom.zip on your sd card then you flash the rom from the phone and not your computer.

I'm still utterly confused as to where to start, and it's getting frustrating.
The Captivate forums at least had a sticky telling someone who just got their phone for the first time how to get started. There's nothing like that here. I'm afraid to do anything... I feel like I might brick it.
My main point: how would I flash my first ROM? What do I do? In what order?
All assuming that this is on a stock ROM, just as it is out of the box. I haven't changed anything (installed a few apps, but nothing that would affect rooting/flashing stuff).
Thanks :\

Follow carefully. Worked perfectly for me, I did it on day one when I got this...and threw my captivate out the window.
you're not the only one .. i am still reading up and getting familiar with it all as well .. to me the captivate (and galaxy tab) were easy to root and flash roms ... but the HTC is seeming a little intimidating at the moment till it finally clicks with me how it all works.

flash radio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597
enjoy your phone and buy one of these guys a cup of coffee for their hard work
I'll be honest with you. The only experience I had with android was flashing my wife's captivate with the leaked froyo with odin. I came from a blackberry bold to the inspire (bought it outright). So I can tell you I was pretty confused, about what to do and how to do it. The link the posted above is how I did mine for the most part. To be completely honest it looks a lot more confusing then it really is. I just followed the instructions on the video to a tee, and followed the dev's instructions for flashing their rom. Once you do it the first time its simple after that. Almost all the dev's read their threads and will answer any question you have, as long as you ask politely. I know this doesn't help you very much, but I just want to assure you that it is not as hard as it looks by any means.
So most of the guides here to flash Desire ROMs, or use cooked ROMs didn't appeal to me, and I don't think that a one-click root in the sense of a new exploit and leaving the rest of your phone intact will exist soon.
All I really wanted was S-OFF and Root.
Going through all the different packages others had released I did this with my new phone:
Created Gold Card
downgraded radio
s-off, sim-unlock, etc
flash back stock att rom with RUU tool (Guess I can extract it and flash via SDCARD)
This leaves you at a point that I believe is back to stock with the only difference being S-OFF is on.
Then you can:
Remove Bloat (Rooting Not required, use psneuter)
Root if you want w/(no clockwork)
Install Clockwork
etc.
Is there any interest in this before I write something up?
Sorry if I missed this already and this thread can be delete if it has been covered
Thanks!
Both the hack kit and bubbys GUI will do this for you. Please check in one of those threads. Thanks.

Bubbys doesnt, it flashes a cooked rom I thought?
Cooked as in rooted AT&T stock. Either way, you can flash a rooted stock easy enough after you root. Try those threads. You'll get help. No need to start a new one. Good luck.

But yeah, mods go ahead and delete this thread, sorry!

If you want s-off and "not" be rooted just flash back using the ruu. The ruu will remove root but radio security will remain off.
Ohhh...you meant this to be a reference. Gotcha

Yep, yeah I already wrote a something, so after you have a gold card, all you have to do is run this script I wrote and it will wipe your phone and s-off it with stock rom all via adb. Then there is a second script to root the phone. and another to remove bloat.
The only manual interaction is creating a gold card and making sure debug mode is enabled.
I prefer to customize my own stock roms, not that I don't appreciate others work!
Well...This does sound interesting.

Really? You downgraded the radio without flashing a downgrade DHD ROM?
My BS detector is going off, especially since you are saying you flashed back a stock att rom. With any of the current methods of doing this, you are free to flash whatever you like when you are done and you can achieve exactly what you say you are trying to.
Please be clear - you are doing exactly what's already being done - except you are skipping the root/clockwork steps. In order to downgrade the radio, it must be in an HTC signed zip file, and if you had one with only the radio, there would be no need to flash back the RUU. That's needed because you did a full downgrade, not just a radio downgrade.

I have actually done this part. exactly as you mention. Now I would like to Root this stock ROM manually, rather than flash a pre-rooted ROM. I want to do this purely for experience so that I can gain a better understanding of the system and the process. I have not been able to find any real guidance for doing this as everything seems to be focused on creating and flashing pre-rooted roms.
Is it possible to root this stock ROM once you have S-OFF? or do you need to flash a pre-rooted ROM? Any guidance you might have will be much appreciated.
I would be interested in seeing the script just to see how you have done it
Okay, I'm pretty sure no one on the sensation forums has posted a thread on this yet.
I'm fairly new to the Android experience. So sorry for any noobness this might seem.
So here's the deal, I'm really excited that the sensation got S-Off treatment a few days back (So I take it we can flash all sorts of custom ROMs right?). Though I'm fairly satisfied with the stock ROM on my sensation, I'll probably flash it in the near future (you know, when htc decides, it's no longer worthy of updates.) But what happens if I regret installing a certain ROM and want Stock sensation ROM back?
If you're lazy:
How do I get stock sensation ROM after having flashed a custom ROM?
Simple run a nandroid back up through cwm so you can revert to it
Clockwork mod
okay, so nandroid is an app I can get from the market right? Though I have no idea what cwm is, so... if you'd be kind enough, i'd love it if you could explain it to me. Also, does this back up to my micro sd card? And if so, is it in the form of a file/folder that i can copy to my computer?
thx in advance~
thanks! This seems like an awesome app!! So before I go and S-off my phone, is this any different from the other methods of flashing rom? and why is the recovery file amazingly small? 4.5megs for the sensation?
You can use the ruu.exe application from the development thread. Its an exe file you just need to run and it will flash over any rom and restore S-ON to your phone. The whole process takes about 5-7mins. I had done that since I s-off my sensation and realized it needed to be sent back for warranty (dust under screen).

Hi,

Hey Guys!!!
I've been looking around for a straightforward tutorial on how to flash back to stock.
If anyone could point me to the right thread that would be helpful, I'd would just like to set everything back to normal since I need to send the phone back.
I just want to know what the process is, like 1. Relock Bootloader 2. Flash Stock T-Mobile ROM 3. Flash Stock Recovery, something to that effect, so if any of you can point me to the right direction that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys:fingers-crossed:
!!!!!!--UPDATE---!!!!!!!!
So it worked everyone like a charm, so much thanks to baseballfanz, jdizzle316, and Senzune
So here's the breakdown on what I did, and again !!! This is for TMOUS and I tested with the 1.84.531.2 software !!!!
1. Re-locked the bootloader
- You can use the All in one tool from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604677
- Or boot into fastboot and enter fastboot oem lock
2. Reboot the phone, check everything is ok
- no need to go back to bootloader or recovery
3. Boot back into bootloader
4. Go into fastboot
5. Run TMOUS RUU, go through the process and then just let it run, don't touch anything
- I found it from this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1744177&page=3
- If anyone needs another dropbox link let me know
6. Once it's all set you'll be back in the bootloader and all you have to do is just reboot the phone
And again thanks everyone for the help :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
Are you on stock but rooted ROM or a custom ROM?

I'm on Trickdroid like you are it seems, so I think that's considered custom no?
Just lock the bootloader and run the T mobile RUU
Use the all in one root kit in order to lock your bootloader(this can be found in the development section)
Once you bootloader is locked, download the TMOUS RUU, also found in the development section. This is an exe file you run on your pc.
Boot your phone into bootloader, then choose fast boot. Attach your phone to the USB connected to your PC and then run the ruu and from then it will take your device to completely stock.

Ok great
Now not sure if either you or baseballfanz have read anything about this on the forums, but I've downloaded both:

You need to check in your settings which one applies to your device - at least I hope that's the way to decide which one to use. I have an RUU downloaded myself, just incase I ever do decide to get a custom ROM (waiting for a JB one which actually works). I found the proper one by checking which one has the same Baseband version, which in the stock ROM is found under About > Software information > More.
Since you seem to be on a TMOUS version of the One S, I believe it to be highly likely the 1.84 one is the way to go, as most updated to that version, including custom ROMs. You'd have to check that at Software number, I believe, if that's not altered by the custom ROM.

So I just spent ages installing Pacman Rom onto my phone, only to realise I've come to the end of my contract and will get an upgrade instead!
I'd like to take it back to a decent HTC stock rom, with an updated Sense and so on, and give that handset to my Mum.
My phone is currently rooted and s-off. As I understand it, I need to:
Create a backup using CWM or similar
Follow this video and use Android Flasher to remove Revolutionary while in Bootloader
Copy an appropriate RUU file to the SD card and install from wthin the Bootloader
Does this sound legit? I've ran into Errors 131 and 140 before while trying to run an RUU off my desktop. Also is it possible just to get an HTC RUU with Android 2.3.5 on it rather than factory 2.3.3?
