[Q] What would I have to do to get the stock ROM back? - HTC Sensation

Okay, I'm pretty sure no one on the sensation forums has posted a thread on this yet.
I'm fairly new to the Android experience. So sorry for any noobness this might seem.
So here's the deal, I'm really excited that the sensation got S-Off treatment a few days back (So I take it we can flash all sorts of custom ROMs right?). Though I'm fairly satisfied with the stock ROM on my sensation, I'll probably flash it in the near future (you know, when htc decides, it's no longer worthy of updates.) But what happens if I regret installing a certain ROM and want Stock sensation ROM back?
If you're lazy:
How do I get stock sensation ROM after having flashed a custom ROM?

Simple run a nandroid back up through cwm so you can revert to it

Clockwork mod

okay, so nandroid is an app I can get from the market right? Though I have no idea what cwm is, so... if you'd be kind enough, i'd love it if you could explain it to me. Also, does this back up to my micro sd card? And if so, is it in the form of a file/folder that i can copy to my computer?
thx in advance~

thanks! This seems like an awesome app!! So before I go and S-off my phone, is this any different from the other methods of flashing rom? and why is the recovery file amazingly small? 4.5megs for the sensation?

You can use the ruu.exe application from the development thread. Its an exe file you just need to run and it will flash over any rom and restore S-ON to your phone. The whole process takes about 5-7mins. I had done that since I s-off my sensation and realized it needed to be sent back for warranty (dust under screen).

Hi,
This thread will help you get s-off,and help you restore everything as well:

It will give you CWM and you can make your NANDROID backup with it.

sensation flashing procedures

is someone gonna post a guide to flashing new roms on the sensation , im getting one when they come out and im coming from an HD2,just wondering if the procedures are basically gonna be the same for the sensation as the HD2 as far as hspl 3 etc.....that is once the bootloader problem is woked out, been waiting for this phone for a long time and if it suks i will have no problem going back to my incredible hd2
I expect flashing on the Sensation will be like most other HTC Android devices. Get it permarooted, unlock the bootloader, flash a recovery like CWM, then flash the ROM zip.

Flashing Android devices is nothing like flashing the HD2. I have three HD2's and 2 MT4G and it is night and day difference...except for the Recovery part if you are using MAGLDR for your HD2.
I am looking closely at the Sensation.
Flashing the Sensation will not require anything like HardSPL. Android users do not even know what HardSPL is.
To flash the Sensation we will first have to unlock the bootloader, get some kind of root access(whether that is permanent or not remains to be seen) and finally flash a recovery of some sort from which you can flash a new ROM in the .zip format.
So yeah, nothing like the initial flashing of Android to the HD2.
Thanks for the replies, well I hope the bootloader gets cracked but I just gotta give the sensation a try with the hardware upgrades over the hd2
I have been using HTC Touch Diamond2, I'm gonna get a HTC SEnsation once it comes out. After reading the guides on HTC Desire HD for flashing, I realised it is completely different.
I suggest reading all the guides thoroughly before flashing.
I am also nervous about flashing cause it is my first time flashing an android phone. And Its a new phone, hopefully I dont screw up.

I can't help but think you're jumping the gun. We don't know how locked/unlocked the Sensation will be (once unlocked by HTC, if that happens). If it's made radio S-OFF before shipping or by an official FOTA update or RUU for those already shipped, it will most likely be just a matter of installing ROM Manager from the Market, clicking the 'Install ClockWorkMod Recovery' button, and then using CWM to install any ROM you like from your sdcard. That's a very low risk procedure that's almost impossible to screw up.
We're going to have to wait for the bootloader to be unlocked. We'll probably see a CWM Recovery a little after and a temp root solution for those unfamilliar with fastboot.
Wrong section btw ;p

Over here in singapore, the phone is yet to be released. I heard 18th June for my carrier. I guess it should be S-Off. Or maybe the new batch released. I've never had any experience in flashing a rom on android phones.
I have it now for one week. I have to say sense 3.0 is so nice! For now I miss root only because of titanium backup and deleting vodafone crap... The original rom feels real nice and battery seems ok

Once it's fully developed someone will post a guide. As long as you read and follow directions exactly... rooting and ROM'ing is easy. 99% of phones that get accidentally bricked are probably because the user didn't read and do everything exactly.
Until that day enjoy Sense 3.0.
I think flashing should be similar to any android device.. copy the rom.zip into sd card and flash via recovery.. before that we need :
1. Rooting of Sensation
2. A compatible recovery
he he
compiling the recovery shouldnt be that hard colockworkmod has a guide i will try to port once we get the sensation running

This is because hd2 is not a real Android device. Remember when you bought it and there was an OS on it called windows 6.5 all real android devices are similar.

[Q] From stock to ARHD

Hi all,
I tried some searching, before I started this one. And I allready want to offer my apologizies if I overlooked something. There is so much info on these boards.
Anyway. I have a Sensation which I've S-off'ed with the Revolutionary tool. After that I changed CID and installed a stock HTC ROM (I came from Vodafone branded).
I've read trhough Mike's thread for ARHD and instructions on installing it, but it only mentions that I should flash it using the Recovery that's coming with the Revolutionary tool.
Should I run the Revolutionary tool again (I allready gained S-Off) and install the the recovery, or is it just possible to install the recovery alone? And if so, where can I find the version that comes with Revolutionary?
Thanks in advance.
Since you are S-Off just download the ARHD zip and place it on your SD card. Then open bootloader...etc and it will install

Hi,
Your best bet is to download 4EXT(check my sig),which is like a next generation recovery tool, and install it.
Place the new ROM on the root of your sd card, together with a super wipe zip.
Then ,from your homescreen you can open 4EXT ,go to recovery, install zip from your sd card.
Choose the super wipe zip, followed by the new ROM.
Hit proceed and wait.
Thanks man,
I'll have to read up a bit. I'm kinda new to all this. Since everyone was mentioning CWM I thought it was the only way to do it.
But if I'm not mistaken, I install EXT4 while running OS? And next time it boots, you have a different recovery. I'm used to only seeing HBOOT

Hi,
Go to settings >power, and make sure fast boot is UNCHECKED.
This will enable you to enter recovery.
Install EXT4 while running OS.
One of the best aspects of 4EXT ,is that you do almost everything from your home screen.
Wow, thanks for the information. I appreciate that.
Will go at work with it and get ARHD to run, instead of the stock one. The reactions on the releases at Mike's thread are all really good. And it's nice that is has stock look and Sense.
Only doubting on which one to install, the 3.x.x or the 4.x.x. I believe it has to do with Sensation vs. Sensation XE ROM, but if Beats Audio is the only difference (which I guess, is not ) than it shouldn't matter which one I take.
Any suggestions on it? I'm just an average user.

Hi,
I suggest you start with 3.6.5 ,which is a Sense 3.0 ROM ,and see how you get on.
4.1.6 is a Sense 3.5 ROM,but it is still a test ROM,and therefore not 100% functional.

Reverting everything to original

Hi all,
I was wondering if there's a way and/or a guide to revert to normal? I rooted my Sensation XE, did that CID stuff, put clockwork on it and did that S-OFF thingy.
Is it possible to revert everything back to normal? I still have a backup of my original OS.

I have an Asian factory unlocked, rooted Sensation z710e with insert coin 3.4.4 and ClockworkMod. I received it this way from the seller and have an issue where insert coin is causing an app to not work well. I would like to go to a current American stock firmware, but keep the unlocked state, stay rooted, and keep clockwork. How should I proceed? I have a NANDROID backup.
I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201773
But the files in that thread are missing. Is there a more recent thread that I can follow in order to return my phone to it's original settings etc?
I by the way flashed my stock rom, I backed it up before flashing anything else. I only need to remove the root, S-OFF to S-ON and remove that recovery.
Can someone please help me?
Read through the first post in this thread. Its how to do it AND how to undo it. Specifically the following part:

PS - Why do so many people insist on doing these things THEN looking for a way to undo it? I mean, sure you can undo it, but what if you couldn't? Seems like common sense would say you should know how to undo anything you do in case it doesn't work, you don't like it, you need warranty, etc.
Thanks
I have had issues with ICS (Revloution and Insert Coin) in random reboots (seeking answers to that in another thread), but my nandroid backup failed when I tried to revert to it using revolution recovery. Phone was stuck on white screen with green HTC logo for 1 hour.
Eventually I reloaded an ICS ROM, and am living with the reboots for now. Good to know I can get a stock ROM and return all to unrooted state even though my backup is borked.
U know, i dont know if S-on really needs to be done. HTC shipped S-off devices to TMO employees; not even high level. top salesman at every tmmous store got one. My wifes sensation came s-off. I've never had to ship it back but I doubt TMO would say **** about it.

[Q] Just got a Sensation

Well, I got my Sensation today, and I'd like to know what to do first.
I have a Vodafone branded HTC Sensation, with compilation number 3.32.162.11, Base band version 11.69A.3504.00U_11.23.3504.07_M2, it comes with ICS Sense 3.6.
I'd like to know how to be able to install a recovery and install other roms, and later return to the same branded original rom, in case I have to send it for warranty.
I'd first like to know how to do all of this. Also, I'd like to save the original RUU, but can't find it.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks

Using the method: " 1) Easy Method for Installing ICS Custom Roms ( S-ON Devices with hboot 1.27.0000 ) " from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26277186#post26277186, without S-OFF, how can I go back to stock, if I have to return the phone to warranty?
I can make a nandroid backup of my current rom, which is the stock one, from Vodafone, updated. The thing is I don't have the ruu to restore the vodafone branding + ICS. And I can't use an older Vodafone ruu and update, because of hboot version. I can only flash the Europe ICS ruu, which I don't know if will void the warranty with Vodafone (since it gets debranded). I assume the phone goes to HTC and they just check that the bootloader is locked, S-ON and unrooted, and they fix it and don't care about branding but still... Technically even if I do the nandroid backup of my current rom, I can restore it, but won't be able to remove the bootloader lock without flashing a complete ruu, correct?

Which stock Sensation XE rom has the least amount of bloatware?

Which stock Sensation XE rom has the least amount of bloatware?
The question pretty much sums it up. I just got a Sensation XE, Hong Kong model. It has a lot of crap software on it: youni sms, xda assistant, 通通电话,baidu, kuwo player, and all this other Chinese crap. I hate Chinese software with passion. If skynet was/is real, I believe it would be running a Chinese OS. Chinese software naturally tries to take over your computer or phone.
I want to switch to the stock rom with the least amount of junk on it. If it also has a good Chinese/English keyboard with handwriting input that is a plus.
Also, just to make sure I'm on the right track, this is what should be done before I can change roms, right?
1) Get S-off
2) Install Clockwork Mod
3) Get permanent root
4) Write super cid
5) Change Stock Rom

the steps are fine ..but 3rd step is not required ...and 2)better have 4EXT recovery ..its better imho and between 4 and 5 there might be one more step ..which can only be decided after you told the current rom you are having (if running gb now ..for ICS you need to flash 3.32/3.33 firmware ..then ROM)
as for the ROM ..for simple STOCK like and fully customized with bloat removed ..try ARHD, insert coin or Elegancia
Hi,
If you go through the steps you mentioned:
1) Get S-off
2) Install Clockwork Mod (Try to get a PG58IMG.zip version of it, saves having to fastboot flash it)
3) Get permanent root
4) Write super cid
5) Change Stock Rom
You could stop at step3 and manuall delete stuff off the ROM you have. OR, what I'd probably do), and as mentioned you can skip step 3 if you're installing a new ROM. Go for a WWE (World Wide English) RUU if you want to keep completely Stock, you can then run ROMcleaner to remove some redundant crap.
Look for something like: RUU_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.5_Radio_11.69. 3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M_release_246089_signed.exe
It's ICS with Sense 3.6. The 401 in the above means it's WWE and will either need SuperCID (11111111) or HTC__001, it's completely unbranded.
You can find ROMcleaner at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217664
Thanks for the replies. I know I can root and then uninstall system apps. I don't really like doing that because you just don't know what else has been done to the rom. This Hong Kong rom won't let me use stock SMS (I know how to select default SMS program, it doesn't work on this rom) and doesn't have stock browser (it has some chinese version of Opera), is asking me if I want to invite my contacts to join all kinds of stupid networks, gets involved with my text messages, has some Chinese antivirus that keeps complaining, and all kinds of other crap. It's the worst rom I've ever seen. The WWE appears to be what I'm looking for. It's unbranded and shouldn't have carrier or region specific stuff. Youtube and other apps that don't ask me questions I can deal with.
I want root, for all of it's obvious benefits. I usually run stock, rooted and custom kernal with GPU overclock. But I'm not so sure I like sense, but I want to try a cleaner rom before I decide on sense.
I'm guessing I don't need to do the OTA update before I start the process. I also saw there were some special procedures for the latest ICS. I'll deal with that bridge when I get there. For now I just need a clean rom that doesn't bombard me with useless Chinese crap.

There are a few WWE GB ROMs out there, the one I mentioned is pretty slick as it's ICS which seems to work better IMHO.
The following is mentioned in post 1776 and there abouts in the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Pyramid
The OP has filefactory as the repository but it never worked for me so I gave up on it, looks like others had the same issue.
Just get a Europe one xxx.401.xxx. Avoid 1.24 if you want to go through OTA updates, I had issues with that, might have been me but .....
The ROMcleaner thing I mentioned is pretty good at removing the HTC extra stuff.
Of course, there are a few very nice custom ROMs out there. I was using Virtuous Inquisition (AOSP look and feel based on Sense but de-sensed as much as possible). I've not tried ARHD/IC and some of the others for a long time so can't comment on them.
Have fun and GL on your quest.
EDIT:
P.S. after applying the RUU you'll need to re-install CWM (again easiest was is if you have a PG58IMG.zip version of it) and then apply the root. It looks like the best root at the moment is SuperSU (reading some posts here from EddyOS).
Thanks again. I'm downloading:
RUU_PYRAMID_LE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.105_R2_Radio_11.69.3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M_release_253443_signed.exe
Now that I look again the 3.33 version is available, I probably should have downloaded that.
I've already got: ADB drivers, HTC Sync, HTC driver, java, pg58img(recovery.img), CMW 5.0.2.0, revolutionary-0.4pre4, su-2.3.63-efgh, and the unbrick stuff in case something goes wrong. Once I finished downloading the firmware I should be ready to go. I'll double check that all the files are good, re-read all the instructional threads, and then get started. My phone doesn't have a warranty, so I have to make sure everything is done correctly the first time.
I also found this:

Will I need to flash this as well?
HTC phones are so much more complicated compared to the other phones I've rooted and flashed. On my Huawei phone you plugged the phone in to the computer, copied two files, and you were rooted and had CWM installed.

The 3.32 contains the 1.27.0000 HBOOT which can be unlocked (just done it myself). The 3.33 contains 1.29.0000 which at the moment cannot be unlocked.
As you're already S-OFF it probably doesn't make much difference. I'm on 3.32 at the moment, I don't know what the differences are between 3.32 & 3.33, I assume minor bug fixes.

Unless you go back to HBOOT 1.18.00 or earlier revolutionary can't help to S-OFF, as you're already S-OFF you shouldn't need it.
Does the PG58IMG.zip you mention contain CWM 5.0.2.0 ?, I usually keep a copy about called PG58IMG-CWM5020.zip, then change the name when I want to install it. The reason I ask is that PG58IMG.zip is a generic name and can be used for many things. You'll need to pop the uSD card when it asks you to reboot.
As far as SU is concerned, look at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
I also found this:

Will I need to flash this as well?

No the RUU is self contained and includes the firmware/radio. You might want to install HBOOT 1.27.0011 afterwards, IRC it allows fastboot commands. I think it's in that thread.
HTC phones are so much more complicated compared to the other phones I've rooted and flashed. On my Huawei phone you plugged the phone in to the computer, copied two files, and you were rooted and had CWM installed.

I know HTC seemed to have created hassles. I had an early Sensation and waiting for someone to work out how to S-OFF was a real pain.
GL
EDIT
REMEMBER to take a nandroid backup before you start, just in case ! Also remember that nandroid backups don't include HBOOT or Radio so if you need to revert you'd need to get them. Take a note of the existing baseband/radio & HBOOT.

I found the PG58IMG-CWM5020.zip file you were talking about. I like that idea better.

Good point. I'll add that to the list of steps so I don't forget.
1) Setup ADB/fastboot
2) Get S-off
3) Install Clockwork Mod
4) Backup via CWM!!!!
5) Get permanent root
6) Write super cid
7) Change Stock Rom
Unfortunately the rom didn't download correctly, so looks like I won't be installing the rom tonight.

The nandroid backup is via ClockworkMod, not certain what you're backing up through ADB/fastboot. Guess you could get Radio/Recovery etc. Never tried it myself, I like a simple life
There is no point applying SuperSU until after you have installed the new Stock ROM. You can change the CID directly with fastboot, it doesn't need root for that.
Shame about the download, at least the steps look about right.
Eek, I thought you already had S-OFF ? What HBOOT are you on at the moment ? If it's 1.18.0000 or earlier revolutionary.io is perfect, if it's later it's a different process.
Note that when you install the new stock rom via RUUxxxx.exe, it'll splat the custom recovery so it'll need to be re-applied.
Umm, I booted into HBOOT to get my HBOOT version and at the top of the screen it says:
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT 1.17.008
RADIO-10.11.9007.15_M
That mean I already had S-OFF, right? Well that was easy.
Actually the phone was smuggled into China to avoid taxes. The sellers probably had to get S-OFF to put a Chinese language rom on there. Which also would explain all the extra bloatware, probably was installed by the same people.
Also, I wasn't able to pull the images through ADB. Have to wait until after rooted.
UPDATE: Installed CWM, backing up now, then root. So far so good. I'll probably have to settle for using Titanium Backup to remove the unwanted apps for now. The second try at downloading the RUU also failed.
UPDATE: Rooted, through it probably was already rooted. Also checked the CID and it was already 11111111. Thanks Chinese smugglers. You did all the work for me. Now to finish uninstalling all the crap you put on my phone.
So actually, the only work I did was install the SU and backup my system.
Nice to see it going smoothly for you, and remember if you want to install ics, you need to flash a ics firmware 3.32 or 3.33. Or you'll be in a boot loop.

LOL
As you say that was easy.
There are other sites that you can download 3.32.401 from as it's fairly common, have a look.
As you have a nandroid backup that you can recover back to if needed you can also try ROMcleaner.
I'm going to try a Jelly Bean ROM tomorrow so my nandroid backup will be vital )
A really nice fairly lightweight ROM is Virtuous Inquisition. As I said it's AOSP look and feel but has Sense backend, it's been de-sensed as much as possible.
Anyway Have Fun.

The RUU will contain everything you need and update firmware, Radio, Recovery, HBOOT, ..... and of course the ROM.
Remember it'll flatten the ROM so all saved messages, WiFi details etc. will be lost.
If for some reason you need to revert back to your existing ROM you'll need to downgrade the firmware to 1.17.0008, including the radio. I doubt you'll bother though when you're on 3.32.

If it's that urgent you should spend time familiarize yourself with the search button. There is Asskicker's guide how to flash roms with s-on in the general forum. Plus I gave you a link to RUU's in the other thread you posted in.
