Samsung infuse dead??? - General Topics

Just wondering if the infuse is dead or if Samsung and att are Judy being very very slow about releasing it.
Could it be delayed due to att's lack of true 4g and Samsung wont release it to them under att's false 4g. If i were Samsung I wouldn't let att ruin what had potential to be a great phone. But I would atleast let my customer base know a little about what is going on with it.
This as well as the sgs2 not being released until 3rd quarter or later in the states is starting to make me lose faith in both companies, along with att lying about their 4g and purposfully throttling down speeds on the inspire and atrix.
It might be getting time to try another carrier and just forget about Samsung.

if that were the case, t-mobile wouldnt have been aple to release the galaxy s 4g. and technically there is no true 4G avalible anywhere in america. By that standard LTE doesnt count as 4G 'till you hit the LTE-Advanced mark which wont be for a few years. unfortunatley the big companies are going to decide what '4g is' (even so much that the ITU was going to change the standard) once we hit LTE-Advanced well be crusing at speeds around 800mbps-1gbps

When those days come we won't need laotops any longer. Can't wait.
I was waiting for the infuse out the sgs2 but am impatient. Im like a kid at Christmas with this stuff. Now I have an inspire and have a nexus s with att 3g on its way. Should keep me happy for awhile I hope. If not my wife might kill me.

Meh, I was pretty excited for the screen size and specs, however it's only single core and the Galaxy S 2 should be coming out next month. If ATT sold it for under 200 it would be a great phone to buy and I think a lot of people who don't want an iPhone would pick it up.

Am concidering making the jump to Verizon

I have been back and forth to Verizon a couple of times this week looking at the thunderbolt ...Right now I have a nexus s with T-Mobile,witch I do love, but am really not game to stick around with disaster that at&t is going to create...so my question, who has gotten one coming from a nexus s or galaxy's and how do u like it? This is one hard decision for me to make, any real honest opinions would be great

I switched from a Nexus S. The TB is an awesome phone and the data speeds are amazing. Really the single downside that I've found is that the black levels of the screen don't compare at all to the Nexus S, but then again nothing else really compares to the contrast of Super Amoled. The TB screen however does appear clearer and sharper to me than the NS screen. I have no regrets about switching, and my plan is only $5/month more on Verizon than I was paying to Tmo.
I switch from a mytouch 4g and haven't looked back.
Verizon is more expensive then tmobile in every way and luckily my company has a 19% off voice plans so my transition was easier.
Lte is definitely worth it if you can get grandfathered into the unlimited plan.
Sent from my htc Thunderbolt
One other thing, if you aren't in a 4g area then I don't think I would switch.
I switched from Tmobile as well. I think it is a great idea. I have had both Galaxy S phones and HTC phones on Tmoible ( I had every top end phone that came out between the N1 and the MT4G).
I think that now is a great time to jump ship and get Grandfathered into Verizons Unlimited 4G data plans before they go to tiered. The speeds are Amazing. I mean like 3-5 times the speeds of the fastest speed test I ever pulled with Tmobile. I could get 5-6mbps on Tmo in strong HSPA+ area. I get a minimum of 10mpbs down on Verizon, and have seen speeds nearing 30mbps down and 35+ up. That is twice my comcast cable modem speed.
I think the 200$ etf was worth every penny! The phone is nice and compares to every top end phone out there. It is on the best network in the USA according to consumer reports.
GET IT. I have no regrets leaving TMO. It is awesome I get coverage everywhere now, real 4G and Strong 3G where 4G isn't!
I have the Nexus S and got this device as well. LTE is simply stunning. that being said, I returned the Thunderbolt because in the end, the Nexus S was the better phone for me. You'll be happy with either phone for sure but there are pros and cons on each side and really comes to the individual user. If you are thinking about it, try it out as you have 14 days before you have to commit. Verizon is the best carrier hands down but I've never had any issues with T-Mobile either. So to me the decision wasn't about the carrier but about the devices themselves
I have until next Friday to decide, its when I get payed and will have to sell my ns shortly there after, and yea my Verizon bill would only run about $15 more then with T-Mobile ..

That's not known yet, it still has to pass some regulatory hurdles and complaints filed by Sprint. Although I hear yeah, the thought of AT&T makes me cringe too.
I just opened a brand new account on vzw and got Thunderbolt. Wasn't ready to give away my iOS experience and AT&T 3G that's actually pretty decent and nicely fills the speed gap between LTE and EVDO. My Verizon plan is heavily discounted through corp employee channel so I really can't complain.
The LTE network alone is worth switching to Verizon.
I'm like gr8Gorilla. I've owned just about every one of TMOs better phones, and yes there was a few I enjoyed very much. After hearing the news last Sunday about AT&T taking over, or wanting to take over TMO I knew it was time for me to take off. I refuse to put a dime into AT&T pockets!
Anyway, my thoughts on Verizon... Hands down It was the best move I've made all year thus far. IT's BIG, it's an HTC, it has good weight to it, and best of all it's F'ING FAST!
Yeah, I'll be paying a little more, but in the end it's gonna be well worth it! Stop thinking about it, and JUST DO IT!

Next phone after Captivate?

What is your next phone after the captivate?
For me it will be a US variant of the Galaxy S2.
SGS II as soon as it is available.
an iPhone...lol j/k
But for me it will probably be the Attain (SGS II) sometime next year when I qualify for an upgrade.
Probably the Nexus 3. Unlocked.
Sent from my Captivate. Andromeda 3, Onix 2.0.5 @ 1.2Ghz
I'm thinking either the US version of the SGS2 or maybe the HTC phone that's coming out--sensation? with the 4.5 inch screen. As long as it has an unlocked bootloader. I really want a qHD screen.
I will also be getting the SGS2. Or the HTC holiday, which I believe is that 4.5 inch monster. Though I do wonder how the battery life will be and, based on HTCs more recent offerings, of it will be locked down.
I am currently eligible for an upgrade and it is so tough just waiting around to use it!

Just curious - why get a branded sgsII and not the international version? Updates a lot quicker, and no carrier bs, I think is worth the extra 200$ of buying off contract. I read the unbranded version will run fine on at&t's network (3g and everything), is this true?

Captivate rocking cm7 nightly.
Infuse stock, awaiting devs
Next, most likely the Attain, with a slight chance of Hurcules (rumor has it it is quad band).
Galaxy S II or Evo 3D. Both are excellent pieces of hardware.
And no, I'm not vying for the Evo 3D because it has 3D, but because it looks like it's a totally kickass phone. Gimmick or not, dual cameras for 3D video is awesome.
I've had this phone since launch day and I am not even thinking about my next phone...

What's on AT&T's Android horizon??

From the looks of it, the best Android phone coming out (that we know of) is the HTC Holiday? 1.2 GHz, qHD...it's supposedly coming out during the (wouldn't you guess) holiday season, AFTER phones on other carriers with 1.5 Ghz and 720p screens have been out for a couple months. Wth? From the looks of it, AT&T might not get the Nexus Prime (or whatever it's called, at least not right away). In fact, it's rumored to be going to Verizon, who is also getting the HTC Vigor, the Motorola Dinara, and a couple of the phones in that recently leaked Samsung lineup are going to Verizon.
Of course, where these phones go is all speculation...but damn, someone tell me my crappy carrier will be getting something good within the next 6 months!!
Perhaps I'm missing something...
The Samsung Galaxy S2 should be out next month. That will be the top Android device for ATT. And there is a slight chance they get the Nexus-Prime this Nov/Dec.
I would get the Galaxy S2. Will be a great device and last a long while if there is a steady XDA user base for ATT's version.

I dunno. It'll be a 1.2 ghz releasing about the same time as the other supposedly 1.5 phones, AND the screen resolution isn't even qHD, let alone at all on par with the 720p... You're right though, if the development is good (on XDA, etc.) then that does a lot for the phones lasting value.
But spec wise, it seems the SGS2 has been held off of US shores for FAR too long, and it risks being outdated almost immediately.
Are there really no other good ATT phones in our future? Can we expect some surprises to be unveiled in the coming weeks for phones on par with these beasts Verizon, etc. are getting?
Import an unlocked prime.
Well, AT&T is buying out T-Mobile and I'm sure with it will come a bunch of new phones for AT&T
There's rumors a Nexus Prime will be dropping for every carrier.

Made the switch...

TO Sprint! While I liked my G2X and LOVED all teh support it was getting from all of the developers, the service in my area was just unbearable. Since I moved here 4 years ago I was not able to even stream a song or pandora on the crap EDGE network.
I got the Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch and I am loving it so far. I got a hell of a deal and couldnt pass it up. I know Verizon is a better network to be on but it was $30 more and it wasnt truly unlimited like Sprint is.
I got my G2X through Best Buy Mobile and signed up for the buy back program.. well today I went to go see how much that buy back is worth and they gave me $450 for my G2X! It was too good to pass up. So with that $450 I paid the $200 for the new sprint phone, and another $200 for terminating T-mobile contract and walked out of the store with a $50 best buy gift card. It blew my mind, I got paid to switch to a better network and better phone.
Just wanted to shout out to all the devs and support and thanks for all the frustrating times with the old beast.

Yeah I dumped Sprint earlier this year. Couldn't stand the thought of paying $10 extra a month for "smart phone fee" that used to be called "4G" data fee. Of course my city doesn't have Sprint 4G so you could understand how I felt about that bogus fee. My Sprint 3G download speed at home was 100-300kb per sec. I am getting 7-8meg per sec download with Tmobile. I also got 1 bar with Sprint at home and I get full bars at home with Tmobile.

Thanks folks, I only get 1.2Mbps here inside on 3G. I read everywhere that sprints 3G is slow but it sure beats the heck out of 128Kbps to where I cant even use Pandora while going for a jog. I can still watch youtube and stream netflix and all ther other stuff just fine. T-mobile has no support in my area whatsoever, Best Buy Mobile carried their phones here for like 8 months and just dropped them all last week and picked up Cricket of all things... I did like HSPA+ here in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis / St. Paul) I pulled like 5 down but I was with my friend that just got the LG Revolution and he pulled 12 down which was pretty nuts.
The SGSII is pretty sweet, Its living up to the hype I gues. Its really speedy and the screen is nice. I used to have a Vibrant before the G2X and everybody knows how crappy the GPS was on that among other things which is why I was leary on getting another Samsung. I have run GPS test side by side and the G2X never gets anything below a full green par and 6.1 foot accuracy, and this SGSII took alot longer to get to the 6.1 foot accuracy and didnt lock onto half of the satellites the G2X did and the signal strength was less than half. Aside from GPS I think the SGSII wins in every catagory, it takes amazing phones, I just wish with this huge 4.53" screen that the resolution was better but its hardly noticeable.
I was going to hold out for T-mobiles variant of the SGSII but it doesnt have the Exynos and I was never going to see the 42Mbps ever around here anyways so I had enough of not using internet without wifi. I also kind of wanted to see what teh Nexus Prime was going to be like but it seems like every phone that ever comes out has some sort of huge problem with it especially the G2X and first gen galaxy S phones. And who knows if the Prime is going to have some sort of defect. There are no major hardware problems reported of the SGSII so far and thats all that mattered to me. It has everything I need. I would assume there is going to be ALOT of support for this new device since all the first gen EVO people are probably getting an upgrade soon and want it and there have boon tons of people coming from the Evo 3D because well.. that device blows.
Well it seems that all of samsungs new phones are based off of the galaxy s design in some way or another so you would have to think that with each iteration it gets better. I'm sure the prime will be a beast of a phone. I felt the nexus s was outdated before it even launched

Yeah their insurance is WAAAAAY better too. I highly suggest it. Its like $2 more than sprints but i can smash the phone weekly without question and they will replace it with no deductible no questions asked.. now that I think about it HAHAHAHAHA I gave them my G2X with MIUI running on it, they never even bothered to check it while i was in the store. They probably messed around withit thinking it was some phone from the future. I miss MIUI Touchwiz sucks.
My main reason for dumping Sprint was because in summer of 2010, I got 2mbps on evdo, in August 2011 I was slower than edge. The 10 dollar fee didnt bother me too bad, but then they took away my yearly phone subsidy. This broke the straw.

Not to be an a$$, but did you research sprint lately? They've made tons of changes to their policies and terms. Not to mention, their network took a big hit with alltell (I think it was theirs) towers being sold off. Their 4g partner clearwire is courting other carriers, and their new 4g partner is having trouble clearing the FCC.
There's been a lot of people leaving lately! I'm sure this can be found with most carriers, but sprint doesn't have anything concrete for the future!

Samsung makes me sad :(

Samsung were amazing with the Galaxy S line, no complaints there. The Infuse came along and it was pretty much the Galaxy's weirdly put together and slightly upgraded step brother. And as we all know, a hold over for the S2. Then the S2 comes out and everyone's excited. Hell yeah, party! Greatest phone ever made, yeah cool, whatever.
And we all love our phones. And then the Skyrocket. The freakin Skyrocket... This phone comes out a month after the S2. I mean, I love Samsung, but this phone release trend is outrageous. Yes people like HTC release a ton per year, but over many carriers. Samsung has three phones for the same carrier in six months. This just irks me. Please discuss.

Yep - I think you're right. I heard at LEAST 2 more Samsungs by the EOY for Android/ATT alone. Plus a few more for TMobile, Sprint and Ver.
Guys its not like iPhones where the new phone takes an absolute dump on your phone. Samsung puts their best foot forward on most of their phones. Keyword MOST. the new phones are just incorperating the new technology such as LTE for att. Just enjoy the phone you have knowing that its not out of date yet since the new iphone only has 1/2 a gig of ram

I meant to say the new iphone takes a dunp on your old iphone. I accidently left it open. I didn't mean your samsung phone. sorry to say this, but this thread is stupid.
that is like getting mad at mercedes, "i just bought this E class for 50,000$, now they come out with the new CLS!". haha
when you made your Android purchase, you have to accept that one fact that the turnover of devices are very very high... If you don't like this then you'd be better off with the iPhone.
Otherwise, think about how your phone, even though it might be like 4-5 devices behind the newest device, is still so much better than the newest iPhone in the market.
People really don't understand the point of this thread.... I just look at other companies that don't release 4 phones for one carrier in a 6 month span. I love Samsung just not this crap.

While I do agree with you to an extent, I think you miss an important factor that is causing this.
The Galaxy S line was 3G HSPA. Then AT&T launched their HSPA+ network, and the Infuse is "4G" with HSPA+ and halfway between the SGS and the SGS 2 lines. So the Infuse was thrown out there so Samsung had a high end HSPA+ phone. Then the SGS 2 came out as the full upgrade from the SGS line. It also had HSPA+ as that's still the dominant "4G" network for AT&T right now. Shortly after they release the SGS2 LTE with 4G LTE so they again have a high end phone on the best network AT&T has to offer.
So while it seems like they have released 4 phones in a year and a half, 3 of them upgraded their network support. They probably could have waited on the SGS 2 and just released an SGS2 LTE, but I suspect the SGS2 will drop in price faster than the LTE version will as the LTE network grows, giving them maybe a $100 and a $200 model, or even $150/200.
I don't think you'll see them release as many now that we don't have any network upgrades for another couple of years when they upgrade to LTE Advanced (and I suspect that will roll into LTE phones sooner rather than later).
But yeah, I know what you mean. I would have been pretty annoyed if I had bought an SGS2 and then the SGS2 LTE came out, but the LTE came out soon enough after the SGS2 that you could have returned the SGS2 for the SGS2 LTE if you wanted. They were JUST over 30 days apart, but the Skyrocket was announced before 30 days was up, so you could have returned immediately and used a temporary phone for a couple of days.
This thread isn't stupid...it makes a point
Their frequency of phone releases addresses AT&T's network upgrade needs, not Samsung.
AT&T contracts the OEM's to make devices for them. AT&T is paying boatloads for each device run. Thus they have an incentive to move 'old' devices out as soon as possible to make room for the latest tier. It's about recouping cost with device/accessory sales and new contracts.
Keep in mind, that unless you have confirmed LTE service in your area, paying full price for an LTE phone wouldn't make much sense. On contract? Sure and just wait for your LTE coverage to arrive.
AT&T got caught due to VZW's strong LTE push and the 'postponed' T-Mo M&A. So they have to make an LTE push in profitable markets and have a device that can answer VZW's offerings.
The bottom line in my opinion is for you the consumer to do your own homework and not rely on the salespeople to 'educate' you. They won't. They aren't trained to.
You have this forum, Google and more web rags on mobile tech than you could possibly read. A wealth of info for free where you can research and plan your purchase.
My Infuse and wife's Cappy are expected to remain in service for another 3 yrs. At that point I'll sell them to help offset the costs of their upgrades. If there's a need to upgrade soon than that, it'll be because the new device will fulfill a need these devices couldn't possibly fill.
Both of these phones are powerful and feature rich so I feel confident in their longevity.
Although, that flexible AMOLED screen tech is sexy!!! I'd love to see device designs!

if att don't follow suit, I might get galaxy nexus with 4gb of LTE for 30$

The reason you piss people off so much is due mainly in part to how of an ass you are. Personally I don't care for iphones. Another thing is why is everyone who has sn iphone is a sheep? Some people genuinally prefer them. I think you talk way too much without thinking, and you really need to stay out of people's topics if your main objective is to cut them down, try to make every point they make seem invalid, and in a general sense just get on people's nerves.

Thank you. This is exactly what I was saying. And yes, I agree that the main issue is more than likely carrier related especially since Att is the only carrier that released a Skyrocket. This is what I'm looking for, discussion. Not for someone to sit here, call me stupid, and bash my topic and opinion in every way possible.
