I just recently purchased a new ATT compatible Nexus S from Negri as many also have. I was flashing the kb3 radio when I realized that most people receiving their 9020a were reporting build GRI54. My (white) 9020a is build GRI40... Does this mean my phone is older/lemon/sign of the apocalypse? Is this something that I should be concerned about (i.e. what does it mean for me)?
I found a thread on xda discussing the difference in GRI40 and 54 as being a difference in baseband but it seems odd that we would all order from Negri the same week and I would end up with a different build.
Thanks for your thoughts
From what I can gather, GRI54 was on the i9023 ones?
Still, nothing to worry about, flash 54 if you want it, works on all models.

I just saw this in Engadget.

In Canada, Bell is releasing their version of Galaxy S. However, there phone have FRONT FACING CAMERA. I bought the captivate outright without contract, so i paid full $500. Bell and AT&T are in the same network. It will run in the US without any problems.
They said it will be released on the 6th of Aug. Thank god now i can return the Captivate without any problems. I don't mind the look of the Vibrant. However, with the Canadian Model, you can download Euro firmware with no issues.
You'll probably still have radio issues using Euro firmware.
I'd go that route myself, but I am on Telus so there's still that whole lock thing to sort out.
Since i will be buying the phone right out for full price, I should have them provide me a unlock code. when flashing i won't need to flash the modem/phone file. just the pda/firmware and the csc file. what other issues is there? right? thats why i posted.
Quad band: ATT modem/phone will work
Firmware: i9000 pda files will work
CSC: ATT file should be fine too.
Now when flashing Captivate with JM1/JM2 you have to re-flash the phone with the right kernel so that we have all hardware functions. on this phone we will not have to. since the i9000 hardware and Canadian hardware is the same. Right? If i am misunderstanding these finds, please feel free to correct me. I would appreciate all info i can have.
Hmm not sure. I think the US versions got the 6 axis thing. You might have issues.
I think six axis on all Galaxy S models. That is just one of SGS features not just Captivate.

huh? I thought Rogers and AT&T were identical networks...band wise.
why not wait for the new ipod touch =D
I recently took my Nexus S 4G back to Sprint and ported back to ATT and bought a i9020A for ATT from Best Buy this past Friday. After checking XDA i noticed that theres no stock images for i9020a. I'm currently running a CM7 nightly and i have a Nandroid of my stock rooted GTJ61 which is what the i9020a for ATT was released with. Im aware that there are several roms that will work on the gsm models but i think its confusing to say the least that there are only 2 developer threads (Nexus S and Nexus S 4g) Would it be possible to start separate development threads for the various GSM models? And can anyone direct me to the stock system images for the i9020a that are flash able via fastboot such as the ones listed in the Nexus S 4G thread? Im really surprised that as new as the Nexus S 4G is that there are stock images available for it but yet there are none available (at least not that i can find) for the Nexus S i9020a that has been around longer (despite the fact that its just now been publicly advertised for att, it has been available off the record by Negri Electronics for few months now)
Any help of leads would be greatly appreciated

Maybe you found sound help by now, but apparently this guy had the same problem:

Hey Guys,
I'm interested in the Nexus S, I'm sorry I'm creating a thread to ask this, but it's just driving me crazy.
I plan on using T-Mobile in the US. When I search Evil-Bay and other online stores. They just put up i9020 as the model number and list all the bands. Is there a Nexus S version that has all the bands (I hope I'm using the right term) that the i9020T and i9020A have?
I bought (haven't paid for it yet) this Nexus S off of Evil-Bay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/12086207081...NX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_766wt_1267
and the description says it's a i9020A (the wrong one I need as I was later told by friends). I contacted the seller to ask which model it is and the seller is telling me it has the same Band Network as T and A model.
SO, is there a version that has every Band Network available?
Thank you.
No Nexus S has all the bands. Linky for reference.
You want the i9020 (original) or i9020T, or even an i9023 (this is slightly thicker and has the SC-LCD, not SAMOLED). The 4G obviously won't work for you at all, though the i9020A will sitll give you 2G/GPRS/EDGE calls and data - you'll get no 3G with T-Mo with the A model.
Edit: In fact, you might get some 3G with the 2100mhz band. I don't live in the US to guarantee anything though, wiki says T-Mo is 50% 1700 and 50% 2100mhz.
If you live in the USA, buy 9020, not 9023, you won't have samples screen with 9023
Greetzz, Jojoost.

E-bay is full of crap ... Try Amazon and look for "I9020T" if you want T mobile,(or I9023 for AMOLED screen is not important for you and you save 20-30 bucks)
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-GT-Go...2C48/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330109609&sr=8-1
If seller doesn't specify I9020T in item discription , move over ...
check out cowboom.com they have REALLY good prices but they very from day to day so...
Thank you for the info guys!
The seller contacted me and said the phone I purchased from him is:
model GTI9020.
BAND: Tri-bandHSPA(900,2100,1700MHz),quad-bandGSM/E DGE(850,900,1900MHz)
But, did they ever make a White i9020/i9020T model? The only information I found for the white version is that it was made specifically for AT&T so did they ever make a white version for tmobile ?
I don't believe they did, but there is a white i9023 which you'll probably need to get shipped from Australia or Europe if they have them. I personally prefer the SC-LCD over SAMOLEDs (even all the SGS2s ive seen have ugly tints), it's just a little harder to find cases that fit since it is a little thicker.
Also, if it is in fact those bands, it is the i9020T. Get him to post a picture of the sticker behind the battery and see if it says i9020A, just to make sure.
I am having a data connection issue with my verizon s3 and battling verizon support.
My phone has
Baseband Version
I535VRLF2
and a friend has
Baseband Version
I535VRLG1
Exact same Samsung Galaxy S3 from Verizon.
Yet Verizon says that the G1 version does not exist.
I just want to reach through the phone and strangle someone.
How can they deny that there are two versions *GROWLS*

Did you pre-order yours and the friend get there's after launch? VRLF2 was what was launched on the pre-ordered and early launch devices. Devices ordered later have the "updated" sticker and come with VRLG1 and apparently removed universal search due to apple whining. IMO the VRLG1 baseband is crap compared to the VRLF2 one especially in low signal areas.
I am happy that you posted and cleared up that version issue with me.
Currently my issue is that at work in a solid 4G area, there is a 3G extender however my data connection cycles through 3G, 1X and no connection. It is extremely frustrating. However my friend's phone doesn't have that issue.
I don't understand how verizon can deny that G1 exists. I have had this issue since getting my pre-order (7/9/12).
Forgot to mention that the pre-order phone was replaced so now I'm wondering why I didn't get the "after launch" G1 phone.
So I called verizon today again and asked for the I535VRLG1 version.
Was told that they
do not have it
can't sent it
do not support it
The verizon phone I see it on much be rooted or hacked.
Yea cause my company rooted all the phones before handing them out to their employees.
Amazes me verizon gets away with this crap.
edited to add: Before someone boots this post because of a reason like this: "This subsection is for T-Mobile US (G930T), you should ask in the general S7 forums."
These kind of questions are also asked over there in general S7 forums and the response is CRICKETS! I suspect that is because those forums are not T-Mobile forums. See? /rant
The G930F is the International version of the S7. It's the hardware model with the Exynos processor, with the radio hardware to run just about every mobile band under the sun, BUT comes with MANY different baseband/software combinations out there in the world, so they are not all alike, and some may work well on T-Mobile, and some may not.
Therefore, this is a difficult question, I guess, because few people running these phones realize that one G930F is not necessarily like the next, because of differing baseband versions, and differing softwares (that may or may not allow things like wifi calling or volte).
What baseband version numbers and software build numbers are folks running on their G930F, and how well is it working for you on T-Mobile?
My baseband is G930FXXU1BPJJ (which seems to be India ??) and the build number is MMB29K.G930FXXU1BPLB (Brazil? these regions are according to samsung-firmware.org). This is the Android 6.0.1 that came with it when I purchased it from Newegg in California about a year ago. I seem to get LTE connection in most places in Atlanta, and speed tests are okay (30Mbps),
.... but I think there may be a much better baseband fit for T-Mobile USA. But who knows?
We need data!
