Apps not installing - Thunderbolt General

I'm rooted and running stock Rom. I tried to reinstall crazy snow board (as an example) and get the message install failed can not find SD card. Any one have this problem? I'm at work and don't have access to the search feature. I was able to install another app. (imb movie) I have clearest cache and fixed permissions in Rom mgr since I update cwm. Have also pulled the battery.

Is your phone mounted as a disk drive?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App

Yes it's not mounted as a disk drive, I'm home now and had time to search. Found this from user Modred on another site. " I had the same problem, here's what I found out: there's a work-around and there's a fix.
1) The work-around: Unmount your SD card, install the app, mount your SD card, move the app to the SD card. And yeah, that will get annoying pretty quickly.
2) The fix:
Now, this worked for me and I read it on the android market support forum, but there's no guarantee.
- connect your phone to your PC as a mass storage device (you cannot access the file we're looking for via a file manager within the phone, the OS keeps it hidden)
- backup important data
- find the folder named ".android_secure"
- there, delete the file called "smdl2tmp1.asec"
- disconnect your phone
If all went well, you should now be able to install apps again. Nothing bad happened to my phone by deleting this temp file, but please backup before you do this, just in case.
Hope this helped. "
I tried both and they worked.

I wanted to confirm...
...this does fix the problem and causes no damage to the phone. I tried it and it worked like a charm.
Thanks for the tip!

Battery widget A2SD

I formatted my card for ext2 and swap and am Using A2SD with Modaco 1.1 but the battery widget no longer works. How do I move it back to internal storage?
Also the Handcent widget won't work so I have to just use a shortcut, is this something taht is known to not work from sd? is it possible to use droid explorer to move these applications to internal memory also, I'm that that good with the console.
did you uninstall them then reinstall them after the rom reboot
ap2sd works when you have and ext2 on your sd card, it creates and envronmental variable to tell android that all the user installed apps are now on the sd card.
if you installed these apps before you formated your sd card to ext2 the data for these apps... executeables etc are still located in data/app instead of /system/sd/app
blah blah... long story short, uninstall the app and reinstall it via market. There might be an additional problem with the app uninstalling because android doesn't know where to look for the original app.
in that case try turning off your phone
removing the sd
restart the phone
uninstall the app agian (the link will be restored at that point)
turn off the phone
put the sd card back in
turn phone back on,
reinstall the app you want
It seems that with Modaco's rom the apps automatically moved to the system/sd/apps at least thats where they all show up when I look for them in the console. Long story short though everything started working after enough time and a restart and they are on the sd card now. It was just odd that they wouldn't for a while when everything else was working. It works now though.

might be the boot cache that's doing it then
yeah, im using handcent and experienced the same widget problem.
It happens when you update a program that is stored on the sdcard. There's another thread in here that talks about it in more details, but you basically have to remove the contents of the boot-cache folder and restart the phone for it to rebuild all the data.
Works perfectly after this...but everytime you update you will have to do this.
You could probably just move the handcent program to the phone (i.e. off the sdcard) to fix this issue. Follow the same methods that are described in the thread that talks about fixing google maps/google voice search....its the exact same principals:

[Q] how to resolve "Installation Error - Insufficient Storage Available"

I just got my wife a new Samsung Infuse. Successfully rooted with the SuperOneClickv1.9.1. I was then able to restore some of her old apps with Titanium Backup.
My problem now is that when she goes to install a few additional apps she gets the following error:
Installation Error - Insufficient Storage Available
However the SD Card and Phone Storage pages show plenty of space!!
Available Phone Storage = 1.46GB
I realized the problem after she had installed some simple stuff like Handcent and MyFitnessPal and they just disappeared. So I went to install ES File Explorer and RomManager to do some troubleshooting and that installed successfully. But another weird thing was that those two didn't show up in the app draw. So I went back to the Market thinking I would try and install again and the market showed it was already installed. So I was able to open the ES File explorer and rommanager programs from the market with the "open" button.
does anyone recognize something like this? I can't explain it?! I'm using the stock rom.
i read something about installing more than 50 apps?
i read that i should try to wipe the dalvik cache? but i can't figure out how to get into cwm recovery to do that?!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213

I found both of these and I think of my self capable of doing this stuff, but i can't figure out the exact steps to get all the way to wipe the Dalvik Cache.
i'm open to all suggestions..
Please help

This phone auto-copies your apps to your microSD card (external_sd). Try going to Settings -> Applications ->Manage Applications -> On SD Card -> Click an application -> Move to Phone.
Rinse, Lather, Repeat for each application.
Thats not happening with mine. All my apps are installing to the internal sd card. Nothing seems to want to go to my 32gb external sd card except pics and videos. Game data, navionics maps and all that load onto the internal sd
I am still getting this...sometimes I get it sometimes I don't...but there are a few apps that never install because of this...any ideas?

I had this problem and I just kept trying to install. Did a reboot and tried again and it installed. Not sure of a real fix though.

Try this if you have the new market with the book and movie categories. Uninstall the market update and you'll be able to download your apps using the older market. There is a bug with the new market.
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Downloaded>Market>Uninstall Updates
I had this problem a while back. After hours (i mean hours) of googling, I found that the Market saves the app into the /cache partition. Samsung unfortunately made this partition only 30MB in size. Now, if you rooted and installed a custom rom that has the voodoo lagfix (ext4 partitions), 5 MB will be used as a journal for the filesystem. This means that if you try to download an app thats greater than 25 MB, the market will say that you have no space available! (cue expletives!)
The easiest way to fix this is to temporarily bind the cache partition to a location on your sdcard. For example, lets say you have a folder on your sdcard called syscache.
you would bind /cache to this directory with (run this in terminal or adb. run su first)
Code:
#umount /cache
#mount -o bind /sdcard/syscache /cache
Unfortunately i can't seem to find out how to unbind the directory after i am done. Found this solution on the internet. Use at your own risk :]

[Q] PLEASE I need some genius to help me urgently - internal SD nightmare!!!

Hi
I had an Atrix and used it for three months, then the internal memory (SD area) seemed to corrupt - I could not format or unmount it or access anything in there apart from copying files with Astro or ES File Manager. Even a full factory restore of the phone did not delete any of the data on the Internal SD (or Media Area). Ended up getting rid and getting an Optimus 3D.
Now, had the 3D for a month and can't believe I am having a similar problem. Android market apps kept disappearing on boot up (this is what started before), and randomly they would be there or not on each reboot. I moved some files using file manager from the internal to the external SD to create some room and my phone got stuck in a boot loop so I had to remove the battery and external SD for it to work again. Then, all of the apps on the internal sd instead of their icons had the android sd symbol and when clicked on say 'application not installed on phone'. When I look at the Sd and memory storage, the internal SD is nearly full still! I can't access it, can't factory reset it, or delete data. Surely there is some way of sorting this without yet another handset - it's gotta be a fixable glitch? In desperation rooted phone with Superoneclick which was really easy but doesn't help me because I can download from the market, etc, but can't actually install - I am stuck in the install 'candybar' for ages and it just won't work. I thought of manually deleting all of this stuff but I can't get a file manager onto the phone and the factory reset wiped out ES and Astro, I can't get them back on in the usual way.
Because I have root access now, I presume I may be able to use ADB through my PC to sort this problem - but of course would need exact commands etc, on how to do this through the command prompt? I am not an expert but think I just need to get rid of the carp on my internal SD which must have a corrupt file somewhere. Please help urgently, it is frustrating beyond belief and I almost feel like going back to Apple!!!!

This is a GUI for ADB a graphical front end. You can use it to push/pull some apk to your phone if ya need to. Hope this helps in some way.

[q]voodoo lagfix issue

Hi.
I have just flashed Zeus 6 today all the way from stock. Everything was going great.
After this, I decided to enable lagfix by going to CWM and enabling it from there. After it booted, though, ALL MY SDCARD APPS ARE MISSING. Applications such as Superuser and Android Market. So I then disabled lagfix and it still wasn't working. I can't even use Root Explorer as I don't have Superuser.
I can see the blank icons of the applications that are missing in my apparently drawer, but when I click them, it says "Application is not installed on your phone."
SOMEONE HELP PLEASE!
Sounds like you need to edit your vold.fstab file. Have you checked to see if the sdcard is actually mounted?
Search vold.fstab, you'll find the answer.
Where can I get the vold.fstab file from?
And what do I need to do with it? I can't seem to find anything?
Also, it was working fine when I reflashed Zeus 6. After a while, though, I rebooted my phone after installing all the apps I needed to install. After that, it went back to the problem again.
I am really getting pissed right now with my phone.
[Update] I found a vold.fstab but what do I do with it? And is it 100% sure that this problem came from the unsuccessful mounting of internal SD card? I'm really really ticked off at the moment. I'm sorry.
If you do a search for vold.fstab you'll find what needs to be edited.
I just copied the vold.fstab to the /etc folder and the problem still persists.
Is there any other cause that would've ****ed my phone up?
Also, from my understanding, the vold/fstab fixes external SD card problems and not internal. I don't know, though.
I am really desperate at the moment.
[Edit] ****. After doing the vold.fstab replacement, my external SD card won't even get detected anymore.
The issue that you describe isn't related to the vold.fstab fix. You're correct that making the mmc1 edit is only necessary if you can't see your external sd after making a kernel swap.
When you go to settings / sd card and phone storage, what do you see? Is your 13.03 partition visible? What else is visible?
Edit: And yeah, if you changed the vold.fstab like the others suggested, you need to change the mmc1 in the last line back to mmc2.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
Yes. When I look at my USB storage, it says 13.03 total space. I realized that whenever I clear the data and/or reflash, I lose the problem.
But as soon as I start installing stuff, that's when it gets ****ed. I reboot and *boom* all my SD card apps are all just blank icons that when clicked, gives you the error "Application is not installed on your phone"
PS Can someone give me the very default vold.fstab file? This new one ****ed my memory card up and I don't know how to change the mmc1 to mmc2 as I literally just copied and pasted the file into the /etc directory.

You can edit the vold.fstab file by using a program like ES File Explorer or Root Explorer. Using the program, mount the /system/etc directory as read/write. Then, use the built in text editor to change the last line. In this case, for your setup, the last line is supposed to end with mmc2.
To fix your initial problem.: Go ahead and first fix your newly created vold.fstab problem. Then, in Settings / SD card and phone storage, choose format usb storage for the 13.03 gb partition. Let it format, and then go to Settings / Privacy / Factory data reset. Choose "Reset phone".
You'll have to reinstall your apps. Let us know if things are back to normal after doing this. If this doesn't get it, I have another step for you to try.
I have fixed the external SD Card issue. Thanks so much!
I just did the Data reset and currently reinstalling apps and report what happens.
I will keep you posted
Okay so I just reinstalled everything and rebooted and it was all perfect.
This happened to me a while ago while I rebooted like twice and then the problem came back.
I will post here ASAP if it comes back again, but so far it's looking good.
In any case, I am just really curious (if your method actually worked). What would have been wrong before that caused the problems? Also, I did wipes in CWM before and the problem was gone as well, but when I installed apps and rebooted, the problem went back again. So what is the difference between restoring from Settings>Privacy as opposed to the Data wipe on CWM?
I love you, man. *no homo*

Now, hold the bus. If you see and can use your apps, then it worked. What do you mean, "if your method actually worked"?
Also, I hope that after you reboot, that you are giving your phone time to scan the sd cards. Within the first few minutes after the phone boots, apps on the sd card won't be available.

There is no telling, man. No telling at all. Something was screwed up, though, most likely by something you did on your phone.

Factory reset just wipes user data / installed programs and puts you back to default. Did you also format the 13.03 gb partition like I recommended?
Try to steer clear of any mods for a few days, until you're sure that it's fixed. And stay away from those porn sites.
I have done everything you have said on the dot. It's working fine at the moment and I've been trying to reboot every once in a while to see if it is set.
Also, the problem started when I tried to enable Voodoo lagfix and that was when it started acting up. Next time I restored, it was when I tried using Voltage Control. I really don't know what the problem was. It is a ***** for sure, though.
I also made /mnt/sdcard/Applications and /mnt/sdcard/Android/Applications. I don't know if these would've made an effect, but it's working fine at the moment.
Lastly, I knew Jizzhut was ****ed

[Completed] Need Help Regarding sdcard0 in Android

So its a long story guys.
I am Iman. And i have a samsung galaxy star pro ( i know its old, but i just need the solution, not advices to buy a new phone)
Yesterday i rooted my samsung galaxy star pro, with pc kingoroot pc software. And it was sucessfully rooted. Today I installed, link2sd, RoesoftRamExpander and FOLDERMOUNT in my phone.
Ok so when i was using folder mount when i opened the app it gave an error type of thing that a faculty error has came and it will have to do something to the sdcard (internal storage sd card) and it also said that i will create a backup as well.
I just clicked ok, and then using folder mount, i didnt found it effective because all the data was in KB's so i uninstalled folder mount. Now when i opened gallery it said that data is low than 100 mb delete some files. I rushed to settings>storage and saw the Phone memory was 4 Gb/4GB full. (my phone even doesnt supports apps2sd so i cant change default storage to ext sd card)
ok so now i opened es file explorer and the sd card was empty. I opened up /device and searched a file called sdcard.backup and it was there, which means that i have the backup. Now how can i restore it please??????????????? I really need to restore it. if theres an app to do it than tell me , i have also gone in foldermount settings but found nothing there. I can install apps, because the apps go to device/system>data
