[q]voodoo lagfix issue - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hi.
I have just flashed Zeus 6 today all the way from stock. Everything was going great.
After this, I decided to enable lagfix by going to CWM and enabling it from there. After it booted, though, ALL MY SDCARD APPS ARE MISSING. Applications such as Superuser and Android Market. So I then disabled lagfix and it still wasn't working. I can't even use Root Explorer as I don't have Superuser.
I can see the blank icons of the applications that are missing in my apparently drawer, but when I click them, it says "Application is not installed on your phone."
SOMEONE HELP PLEASE!

Sounds like you need to edit your vold.fstab file. Have you checked to see if the sdcard is actually mounted?
Search vold.fstab, you'll find the answer.

Where can I get the vold.fstab file from?
And what do I need to do with it? I can't seem to find anything?
Also, it was working fine when I reflashed Zeus 6. After a while, though, I rebooted my phone after installing all the apps I needed to install. After that, it went back to the problem again.
I am really getting pissed right now with my phone.
[Update] I found a vold.fstab but what do I do with it? And is it 100% sure that this problem came from the unsuccessful mounting of internal SD card? I'm really really ticked off at the moment. I'm sorry.

If you do a search for vold.fstab you'll find what needs to be edited.

I just copied the vold.fstab to the /etc folder and the problem still persists.
Is there any other cause that would've ****ed my phone up?
Also, from my understanding, the vold/fstab fixes external SD card problems and not internal. I don't know, though.
I am really desperate at the moment.
[Edit] ****. After doing the vold.fstab replacement, my external SD card won't even get detected anymore.

The issue that you describe isn't related to the vold.fstab fix. You're correct that making the mmc1 edit is only necessary if you can't see your external sd after making a kernel swap.
When you go to settings / sd card and phone storage, what do you see? Is your 13.03 partition visible? What else is visible?
Edit: And yeah, if you changed the vold.fstab like the others suggested, you need to change the mmc1 in the last line back to mmc2.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2

Yes. When I look at my USB storage, it says 13.03 total space. I realized that whenever I clear the data and/or reflash, I lose the problem.
But as soon as I start installing stuff, that's when it gets ****ed. I reboot and *boom* all my SD card apps are all just blank icons that when clicked, gives you the error "Application is not installed on your phone"
PS Can someone give me the very default vold.fstab file? This new one ****ed my memory card up and I don't know how to change the mmc1 to mmc2 as I literally just copied and pasted the file into the /etc directory.

You can edit the vold.fstab file by using a program like ES File Explorer or Root Explorer. Using the program, mount the /system/etc directory as read/write. Then, use the built in text editor to change the last line. In this case, for your setup, the last line is supposed to end with mmc2.
To fix your initial problem.: Go ahead and first fix your newly created vold.fstab problem. Then, in Settings / SD card and phone storage, choose format usb storage for the 13.03 gb partition. Let it format, and then go to Settings / Privacy / Factory data reset. Choose "Reset phone".
You'll have to reinstall your apps. Let us know if things are back to normal after doing this. If this doesn't get it, I have another step for you to try.

I have fixed the external SD Card issue. Thanks so much!
I just did the Data reset and currently reinstalling apps and report what happens.
I will keep you posted

Okay so I just reinstalled everything and rebooted and it was all perfect.
This happened to me a while ago while I rebooted like twice and then the problem came back.
I will post here ASAP if it comes back again, but so far it's looking good.
In any case, I am just really curious (if your method actually worked). What would have been wrong before that caused the problems? Also, I did wipes in CWM before and the problem was gone as well, but when I installed apps and rebooted, the problem went back again. So what is the difference between restoring from Settings>Privacy as opposed to the Data wipe on CWM?
I love you, man. *no homo*

Now, hold the bus. If you see and can use your apps, then it worked. What do you mean, "if your method actually worked"?
Also, I hope that after you reboot, that you are giving your phone time to scan the sd cards. Within the first few minutes after the phone boots, apps on the sd card won't be available.

There is no telling, man. No telling at all. Something was screwed up, though, most likely by something you did on your phone.

Factory reset just wipes user data / installed programs and puts you back to default. Did you also format the 13.03 gb partition like I recommended?
Try to steer clear of any mods for a few days, until you're sure that it's fixed. And stay away from those porn sites.

I have done everything you have said on the dot. It's working fine at the moment and I've been trying to reboot every once in a while to see if it is set.
Also, the problem started when I tried to enable Voodoo lagfix and that was when it started acting up. Next time I restored, it was when I tried using Voltage Control. I really don't know what the problem was. It is a ***** for sure, though.
I also made /mnt/sdcard/Applications and /mnt/sdcard/Android/Applications. I don't know if these would've made an effect, but it's working fine at the moment.
Lastly, I knew Jizzhut was ****ed

[Q] g2x reboot loop

Hi techie friends,
My unrooted g2x is stuck in a reboot loop. Before I do a hard reset (power/volume down), I would like to retrieve my photos, which are stored in the internal memory. Is there a way? [Here is what I tried so far: I tried a soft reset (battery out) with no success. I connected the g2x to my PC but it is invisible. I tried holding just the volume down key and got a "s/w upgrade, please wait while upgrading..." screen. Is there any hope to retrieve my photos? I googled the issue and found nothing useful.] Thank you in advance for trying to help me! Catherine
Im having the same issue on a friends G2X... nobody has the answer?
hmmmmm, this is an interesting one. the very first thing i would do is get that phone backed up. you will need to flash a custom recovery(clockwork mod) in order to make a backup. search the development section. once you have a backup on your sdcard, i'd copy it to my pc. thinking.......
from recovery, you can try "fix permissions".
reboot. if that doesn't work, go back to recovery>advanced>wipe dalvik cache. reboot. if that doesn't work, try recovery again>mounts and storage and mount everything listed. see if the drives open up under "my computer" on your pc. for me, that last option doesn't work. but it could just be my pc or my recovery version.
or, you could flash any rom you want, and then mount the phone to your pc. then try running a data recovery program on the internal sdcard.
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
forget the link i posted above. it seems it has trouble reading the internal sd. but i'm running get data back right now. it seems like it's working fine. if these pictures are absolutely worth saving, you might have to dish out some cash for a data recovery app. but always use a trial version first to make sure it works. and once you flash a new rom, keep the phone off until you are ready to run a recovery app. the less that gets written to the drive, the better your chances for retrieving those pics.
or, you can try this... https://market.android.com/details?id=com.hexamob.hexamobrecoverypro&feature=search_result . you'll need to be rooted and have superuser app on your phone. but this looks like the cheapest alternative. i have never used it though. reviews look good though.
I'm pretty sure a hard reset doesn't touch anything located on the sdcard. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it should only format the 1GB partition where the android system is installed and apps are stored. You will basically be starting with a fresh install, but should still have anything stored on your sdcard still intact.

Hmmm,
Can't you just mount the internal memory via the latest Clockwork Recovery which is as I recall 4.0.0.2?
It worked the last time (the same option with the same trouble) on my Vibrant 3G

Actually, you are right. HR will not erase the SD content and I also think that it will leave the the internal NANDs partition intact. But I dont know where the pics in this case are stored.
Correct if I'm wrong.

Camera pics are stored under DCIM on the sdcard. Really any user created content/files (pics, music, videos, documents, etc) are on the memory card and shouldn't be touched by a hard reset. So I think youre in the clear if that's the route you go.

[Q] Flashing Rom can't find sd card in recovery.

First off, I have never had a rom for this phone that works well for a long period of time. Every single one slows down eventually and will get random shut downs and other problems. This time, I decided to reflash it to a fresh start and put Valhalla Black edition on it. And I mean completely fresh. I backed up my few files, formatted the sd card, factory reset the phone, and flashed stock KD1 in Odin. Up until this point, everything had been going perfectly fine and the ROM installed just fine. At this point, I put Valhalla onto the sd card to flash and boot up into CWM. This is where I am lost. First, I go straight to "install zip from sd card" and almost get ready to install, but then remember to double check my mounts. Mounts good, but as soon as I select "install from sd card again", I get the error that the sd card can not be mounted. I restarted the recovery and tried to install, and I got all the way to selecting "yes" to install the ROM. But still, Error: can not mount sd card.
So basically I have figured out that I can navigate to the rom and attempt to install before I get the error, or I can just check my mounts and not even get past "install zip from sd card" before I get the error and have to restart the recovery. Could this just be the card's problem and I need a new one, or is it something else? I need help, I am completely lost at this point.
Thanks guys.
EDIT: I may want to add that this same sd card completely crapped out on me about a month ago and I had to reformat it to get it working again.
Also, does anyone else always have their roms slow down after awhile? I would say that the average time for one of my roms to start getting random restarts and constant app closings is about one months time.
Format it on the computer. Fat 32
If that doesn't work try using Panasonics SD card formatting utility.
If that doesn't work maybe try changing voodoo.
Okay I am finished cutting and pasting what I found regarding this issue using search.
Hope one of them helps. If not... utilize the search in the forum. It is pretty neat!
Edit: Wait... do you even have a Galaxy S 4G?

I formatted it in Fat32 with a 64kb allocation size last night during all the troubles. How would the Panasonics SD card utility change anything? Also, Im a little confused on what you mean by changing voodoo. Enabling/Disabling it?
Yes I have a Galaxy S 4G.

Ok. Also, I have a question for you. I noticed that you are using your device on AT&T. Did you have constant notifications popping up about a Tmobile contacts backup or anything else? That is another thing that I need to find a way to get rid of.
I am on t-mobile. But I uninstalled t-mobile back up and use google. The Panasonic sd card format worked for somebody else. So did following the gb starter pack. There are a lot of posts regarding this issue. Different things have worked for different people.
System Toolbox is my preferred app to uninstall system apps like t-mobile back up.

Yup, just use the KJ6 Debloater, or whatever program, to remove the T-Mobile Contact Backups apk
Edit: I just uninstalled T-Mo Backup and Wifi Calling using the debloater right now

Thanks for all the replies! Ill attack the phone again in awhile and see what I can do.
I had this problem too after a failed restore sent my phone into a bootloap. When I odin'd a new kernel, it wouldn't mount, even though I had CWM. It wouldn't work until I odin'd a new rom. I used FB's starter pack and it fixed it perfectly.
Also, about the T-mobile contacts, it's annoying as hell because I don't have T-Mobile either. Once you load a KJ6 rom, use FB's debloater to get rid of T-Mobile contacts backup. You will notice a large amount of ram is freed up from deleting all of the t-mobile items.
Also, if you are starting from KD1 froyo, you need to follow FB's starter pack to make sure you get the proper gingerbread boot loaders on your phone.
Your SD card may be going bad, is there another one you can try?
I've had the same rom for months and haven't had issues or slowdowns. It might be caused by a specific app you are using. Though it may not be a bad idea to go into CWM every now and then and wipe cache, dalvik, and fix permissions.

[Q] SD card 0.00 bytes free, device offline ?

I'm having problems guys
I don't know if I succesfully rooted my phone as when I ran ./root.sh through the linux debian terminal, I received multiple errors saying deivce offline
This also happened when I did Linux/adb reboot "Device offline"
I am now having the problem that my internal sdcard appears to be unusable as my phone keeps saying that is full though it must have over half of the 13gb free
I can access it through mass storage but I can't download/install anything as I apparently have no space
I have not had this problem before, if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.
adb can be weird. it doesn't get covered much on xda but you have to make a file called 70android.rules or something to that effect, I can give better details some other time, right now I can't remember the location or exactly what goes in it besides the samsung vendor id but it basically allows adb to see the phone.
if you have that setup then maybe there is another problem. not sure what issue you have with the sdcard but does it work from the phone and not through a data cable? vise versa? not working at all?
When I go through Settings-SD Card storage my SD card (internal) says that it is full though it's not!
Perhaps I don't understand what the "wipe data/factory reset" does on your phone through red recovery
p.s. If gou actually are running 3e would it say 3e recovery?
I can't install appa as my sd card is entirely full
I had unlocked my phone before through the same comp, I don't know why I am having problems.
Every time I root this phone I do something different everytime (I forget what I did last time)
Others have suggested doing an odin? This phone is a refurb it has many errors aside from freezing then vibrating- force closs
It is slow, sometimes when it freezes the icons (four main on home that you can't movebon stock rom) rotate an entire 90 degrees it's weird as hell
I wish I never sent my Infuse in b/c of the cracked screen I should have just gotten the screen fixed
Thanks for your response
try a factory rest through settings>privacy, then if that doesn't help do an Odin flash back to stock with repartition.
it seems rare on American devices but a lot of galaxy s devices have had trouble with the internal SD card going corrupt. in some cases its fixable but I'm not really sure if that's what's going on here.
Ok so I did reset through settings-privacy that did the trick
Now to start all over again...
I seem to be having a hard time finding the backed up files on Titanium...
oh [email protected] my bad....
I forgot to mention that the privacy reset formats the sdcard. part of why its often successful is that it'll fix certain issues with the SD card and it wipes app data saved to /sdcard/data/
titanium backup keeps the backups on the sdcard...

[Q] Odd SD problem - Help

Problem when I reboot my phone the internal SD is not available only the external micro-SD. I remove the micro-SD and then I can see my internal SD. I am beginning to think my Infuse is on it's last leg. Good thing I can upgrade on 1st January.
I have tried Wipe Cache Partition and Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache. No help. This is the second time, thought I had it fixed by returning to stock then back to CM10 4.2 all was well then I saw a post about the new camera that I didn't have yet so I flashed it. Now I am back to SD problem.
If anyone has an idea what is causing this, other than me. I would greatly appreciate it.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix or advise on new phone to get?
Thank you!

Also I noticed that the date time stamp on microSD says 31 Dec 69
The above is the same with it working or with it not so thats not the problem and it doesn't help to solve it.
I have found that as long as I don't have to restart my phone when it is working it will remain working. If I think I have a reason to reboot I must make sure I really want to do this.
As the work to get it straight involves remove micro-SD, wipe/format reinstall of ROM and GApps and then restore enough to edit build.prop for tweaking lockscreen powerdown install micro-SD then powerup to restore rest of the apps.
If anyone knows what might be causing this I would really appreciate it. Even if you could point me to the log file to look at that might give me a clue that would be very nice.

If it works with out microsd just don't use one. 14 gigs is plenty. Otherwise maybe format the microsd? Or try a full stock wipe and see if it all comes back.

cpio I believe means copy in and out.
Since phone works without micro-sd and fails with it try a new micro sd or a different rom.
As for the date you mentioned, it is not unusual to find files with dates that are years in the past. Upgrade? If you are staying with AT&T pick 3-5 phones from their website that based on specs and price meet you needs and spend some hands on time with each. No one can make a better decision as to your next phone than you. Well, maybe bigjoe could...

your post is the closest example to the SAME problem i am having so i will see if we are experiencing the same thing.
Im running Scott's 4.2.1 Unofficial CM10 - 12/02 build and ever since the 11/30 build, my internal ~14GB sdcard (called USB Storage when i look under system settings / storage) will not mount. the 2GB "internal" Storage and my 64GB External are always visible.
whats strange, is that when i reboot into recovery, i can still get all the data in this "sdcard" partition, it just will not mount when booted.
When i 1st boot from a new flash, its there, but after a reboot (and every reboot after that) it shows for a split-second, then disappears.
I come into this thread and seen it may have something to do with my External SD, i tried it removing the External SD, rebooted, and sure enough, it brought back my internal SD.
i shut down, re-inserted my External SD and powered up, and the USB Storage did NOT disappear but i cant leave well enough alone, so I rebooted 1 more time... POOF... USB Storage GONE....
How could the External SD have such an impact on the mounting of the Internal SD?
In Scott's thread he mentions that external (micro) sd should be removed before flashing the rom... don't know if that is the case, just sayin'.

I have flashed & reflashed with and without, no change. I have reformatted the External SD, no change.
I think i have isolated the issue to the physical presense if the External SD, but this is not an issue with the 11/4 build. I just go back to 4.1.2 till the next release

Some one had a point. How is it not available? No media can be seen. Or is it non existent in root explorer. PR under system settings> storage.
If its the first it might be a .nomedia file in the root directory.

After downgrading back to 4.1.2 of CM10 my problem goes away. Another thing that I noticed is that the default APN's are now editable and I can delete them as well. While on 4.2 the only thing I could do was create a new one and set it to be the one in use. I guess part of the system is read only. Trying to save us from messing something up.

Well for me, not available means not mounted & unmounable, the sdcard directory can be seen, but it empty through root explorer.
the "other way in" through Storage/Sdcard0 shows the dame, nothing, REMOVE the external SD, the internal SD (called USB Storage in settings/storage) Mounts in reboot. .nomedia is not the issue as when the External SD is present, i can play media (from the External SD, but the camera and other apps that rely on the internal SD for storage, can not function.
When i reboot into recovery, i can see and access all the files (typically where the flashable files reside when i drag them over from my PC) both internal and external, and when i reboot, the MOMENT the unlock screen appears i dash over to settings/storage and the internal drive appears, but collapses in a less then a second. (as unmounted)

yes, returning to the 11/4 (4.1.2) ROM I do not experience this issue.
I tried scott.hart.bti 4.2.1 12/11
Went up to try 4.2.1 12/11 - No difference - The only thing I was able to do in this one was delete unused APN and edit save new one.
Wish I knew how to program and spot the differences in the code somewhere. I'd really like to stay on 4.2.1 but without my micro-SD it seems like a waste.
I have not had issues with 12/12, thought I'd share my process: wipe data/factory, wipe cache, wipe dalvik (advanced), format system (mounts and storage), install ROM, wipe dalvik, install Scott's gapps, reboot. I also don't auto restore apps. There are still compatibility issues with some apps and 4.2

[Q] External MicroSD card problems

I just found I have an issue copying files from my PC to my SGS3. The error I get is " Device stopped responding or is disconnected" (on my pc). It worked days ago, and it worked on the current ROM I'm using. I can't think of anything else I could have done to mess it up. This happens when trying to copy anything to the Ext card or internal storage. Here's the kicker: now I can copy small files, but big zip files are a no go. Before I couldn't copy anything. All I did was reboot phone and PC, and looked into phone with Root Explorer, no changes.
I can copy files FROM the phone to PC but not to the phone from PC. How could this change literally overnight?? I did find a way to add Google Wallet to the phone. Could that have possibly been it?? Flashing a new ROM right now, gonna see if it helps.
New ROM didn't help. Still same issue.
*Update* Next day, I tried once again just for fun. And now it works fine! I did nothing to correct it. I did however reflash the ROM that the problem first arose. But I still don't get how that's even related to the ext sdcard. And how did it fix itself??? Would still like to know why it happened!

I had this EXACT same problem a few weeks ago. I'm not saying this is the case for you, but I found out that when I tried to batch transfer certain files, one of the files was corrupt. I eliminated whatever the culprit file was and was able to transfer. The strange thing is, it only happened when I tried transferring from internal to external as well, as if something in the transfer corrupted one of my files. So I started transferring files one by one, and the problem seems to be temporarily eliminated. Check to see if the zip file became corrupted in some way. Hope this helps.

I can transfer from ext to internal. I just can't transfer anything larger than a few MB. The zip files I'm trying are ROM zips so they are very large. Can't find anyone with this exact issue. No problem at all. Do you think it's possible that the format you formatted the sdcard in may possibly be causing the issue? I've heard cases that incorrect formatting can block file transfers if over so many MBs, GBs, etc.

I had this exact problem as well. After a lot of trial and error, I gave up on the native MTP file transfer method, and went with ADB instead.
I use a very nicely done GUI on top of ADB to do all my file transferring called QtADB. Just install the Android SDK first, and then the GUI.

I'm going to try and find the adapter that came with the micro card. I've read where some people having this issue have to use the adapter to plug into the PC directly to copy files. What I don't get is how it just happened all of a sudden. It was working just a few days ago, I loaded a bunch of music no problem as well as ROMs to flash. Very weird. It has to be a setting somewhere lol.

Just for grins, I hooked my phone up again to see by chance if it would work. Guess what? It works WTF?????? That's the craziest thing. I am back on the original ROM I had installed when the problem arose. But I just don't see how that's possible. UGGGGHHH
