[Q] Advice on migrate from Desire to Desire S - HTC Desire S

Hi
I am migrating from a Desire to a Desire S and I'd like some advice.
Can anyone tell me if there is a simple way to transfer bookmarks from one Android phone to another? I'd rather not install an app if possible so I'm hoping that I can browse to a file storage area.
Also is there an easy way to transfer the list of remembered wifi spots between Android phones? I'm not expecting that the passwords would be transferred just the list.
Lastly, is there a way to transfer my Locale settings?
Thanks in advance
Update 24th April: I've transferred my bookmarks and backed up my sms (at least the ones I wanted to keep) - simple enough but notes, recognised wifi spots, etc are still "trapped" on my original Desire.
Also i'm not interested in rooting my phone - so please don't suggest anything that requires a rooted phone. Cheers

No advice is I guess sometimes the best advice one person can give to another being

Backup your settings with Google and import it on your desire s. You will see what u get back otherwise search in the data partition

what about Transfer data app?

Desire S haven't been rooted yet so it's not possible.

Thanks but I'm not sure what you mean by "back up your settings with Google..." I looked through my original Desire and despite that could not find the "backup" feature that is so frequently referenced.
If you can advise on how to access the data partition, I'd appreciate it.

Several questions

So I've been looking around and haven't seen any of these questions asked before, but I if they have I'm sorry in advance!
1) I rooted with simple one click, now should I delete the .zip file it puts on the SD card?
2) does Rom manager and clockwork recovery work generally the same way on all phones? Like could I watch YouTube videos on how to work them and that would be the same method as the inspire?
3) in Rom manager when I click flash clockwork, is desire hd the option I want?
Thanks a lot for the help guys!

yes,yes and yes. but the videos on youtube(most of them) are of the paid version of rom manager which is like 4 or 5 bucks.
Awesome, thanks a lot for the reply! Is there a crucial difference between the paid and free version? Also should I delete the part 7 and part 17 backups the root made?

the paid version just lets you get roms and whatnot from the app. its makes it easier then having to go and download then transfer then reboot to recovery, its lets you do it all from the app. but yeah, whatever the root process made you can delete(not sure about the goldcard part though).
Cool thank you very much!

[Q] Transfer from HTC Desire to HTC Sensation

Hi,
Im eagerly awaiting my HTC Sensation (Counting down the days!!).
I want to transfer my settings from my HTC Desire to HTC Sensation - Is there an easy way to do this?
e.g. if i re-install the apps, stick in my SD Card, will it be a seamless transition?
Anyone got any experience of this?
I did see a setting on the sensation to transfer from another Android phone but
didn't get a chance to play around with it as it was a demo in a shop.
Thanks!

Bro first welcome to sensation world
Do read my guide before u use
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159184
Rest download app called back up and restore on dhd , then tk backup of apps via that app and also bk up of data (Call log, Android home, settings) Plz note do not bk up contacts via this app.. Bk up contact via people > export to sd-card.
Then copy folder called "Rarware" on root os DHD sd card to Root of Sensation sd-card. Install same back up and restore app on sensation and click on restore first app then data..
U'll have all u want.. let me know if u wanna know more
Thanks B!
I cant try your instructions just yet (My order is sitting in Dubai in some UPS warehouse) but can't wait to try it out as soon as i get it in my hands!!

[Q]

Hi all,
I'm an inspire noob running exist's 4.0.3 asopX version 26 and he recently said that he was going to update us to 4.0.4 for version 27. My question is can I back up what i have to the sd card, do a reset, then recover everything using 4.0.4? Or will i need to do a wipe and manually put stuff back on?
thanks
As Long as the recovery you are using is compatible with your backup, then you can restore it with any Rom you are running. Backups from CWM are not always compatible with 4EXT recovery and vice versa

OK. Got it. Thanks a bunch

I don't think glevitan understood your question correctly, or maybe I don't. I took it you want to back up your apps and such, not the ROM version itself. And to restore everything back on the 4.0.4 version. This has nothing to do with clockwork or 4EXT recovery.
If he releases the 4.0.4 ROM as an update and does not require a full wipe then just install it over top of the 4.0.3 ROM. Most of the time the DEV requires a full wipe though.
Usually it is best to do a full wipe and restore user data with a backup app like Titanium Backup. But you only want to backup and restore user apps. Restoring system data can really mess your ROM up severely. Google contacts will resync when signed in.

haha Now that I see your reply I guess that I didn't get what he was asking...well, he will come back and get what he wants or will ask again...
I will say, no matter how inconsequential it seems, DO. NOT. RESTORE. SYSTEM. DATA. between major android versions. Let me refine that. I back up my playlists using Titanium Backup. I figured this was an insignificant thing and restored it when I moved from CoreDroid to aospX. Firstly, it didn't restore my playlists; secondly, I had to factory reset the phone < 1 day later.
That said, I WILL be restoring playlists and contacts going from AR26 -> AR27. I'll report either here or in the dev thread if it causes problems, but I have 6 g(mail | apps) accounts plus my FB account, and it takes me a considerable amount of time to get the duplicates regrouped.
Hope I helped. BTW, the free version of TiBU is pretty good, you just have to confirm every install. To me, it was worth it to get the pay version so that I could restore all my apps without confirming every one (right now I have 45-50, that's a lot of confirmations). It's also nice to be able to back out of a buggy new version of an app, or to be able to go back if you don't like the new version (I'm looking at you, FB.)
oh i see now. looks like i really lucked out cuz i flashed AR27 and his 4.0.4 then did a recovery. I thought it was a bit odd that it still said 4.0.3 so I came back here. Doh! okie dokie. I'm redoing a wipe and clean install and I'll just push all of my apps back from my google account.
Thanks for all the pointers about Tia Backup
edit: cant type

Young, check here. Remember to thank the OP.
I really appreciate all the help guys but I've flashed both the InspireMod 0.5 and the one you both provided the link for. Unfortunately it still doesn't record sound. I am trying to send a message via MMS by recording it. But when I push record it gives me an error of Internal Application Error. I'll try downloading different apps to see how they work. Its just kinda odd the stock recorder doesn't work
Thank you all for your help.

Huh. I'd tell you to check with eXistz in #aospx, but he's away most of the time.... it's like he has one of those "life" things or something.

You should have placed this in the ICS Q/A thread. Do NOT use the development thread for questions. thats why the restriction is in place, so people learn the ropes a bit before they are allowed in there. I would redownload and do a full wipe and reflash. And try to record your mms BEFORE you put all your apps and stuff back on there. Need a clean environment before you can dig deeper into this. Only thing you should put on after installing is inspiremod before doing your mms test. Id love to help test with ya, but i always remove the default mms apk from my phone :/
OK. Now I know. Which messaging app do you use?

[Q] Wifi backup help! (Not rooted)

Hello!
As you can tell I´m in a need of a wifi backup that not requests root access.
Would be happy to have a answer as soon as possible
I have a Htc sensation XE if that can help in any way
I am not sure about this (because I always use Titanium Backup), but the information about Wifi does not get automatically syncronized with google servers? (assuming you have selected it on Settings>Backup&reset>Back up my data).
If not, sorry, but I do not know
Hi it's called my backup. It's in the play store. I know it backups for non root users because I used to use it. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Help with backup.

Hi there. I have a one month old HTC One X with AT&T, and I just noticed a line of dead pixels on my screen. I'm planning to return it and ask for an exchange. I was wondering if anyone could point me to backup apps that don't require root. From what I've read, app data backup without root is not possible, but can I backup stuff like my messages, my homescreen layouts, which apps I have installed, etc, without root? And is there any way to restore all these in one go?
Thanks for the help in advance!
