Several questions - HTC Inspire 4G

So I've been looking around and haven't seen any of these questions asked before, but I if they have I'm sorry in advance!
1) I rooted with simple one click, now should I delete the .zip file it puts on the SD card?
2) does Rom manager and clockwork recovery work generally the same way on all phones? Like could I watch YouTube videos on how to work them and that would be the same method as the inspire?
3) in Rom manager when I click flash clockwork, is desire hd the option I want?
Thanks a lot for the help guys!

yes,yes and yes. but the videos on youtube(most of them) are of the paid version of rom manager which is like 4 or 5 bucks.

Awesome, thanks a lot for the reply! Is there a crucial difference between the paid and free version? Also should I delete the part 7 and part 17 backups the root made?

the paid version just lets you get roms and whatnot from the app. its makes it easier then having to go and download then transfer then reboot to recovery, its lets you do it all from the app. but yeah, whatever the root process made you can delete(not sure about the goldcard part though).

Cool thank you very much!

Left Vibrant, New to G2X

He all! I just my G2X today and was wondering. Is it worth rooting yet with no cusom roms available? And if so, can someone point me in the right direction to accomplish this?
I came from the Vibrant and dont know where to start.
Any help, input and direction is greatly appreciated.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Welcome to the club I was also a Vibrant owner before this.. So here is some quick info that may help save you some time searching.
If you plan on keeping the phone I would root it to get rid of unwanted apps but that is each users own opinion. If you do want to root it I would read this thread to make it easy. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039985
Also if you want to add ClockworkMod Recovery all you need to do is get the newest version of rom manager off the market and select flash ClockworkMod Recovery and the G2X will be the third device down.
After that set back and wait for the custom roms to show up and you will be ready to have all kinds of fun
Hope that helps *some*
uhm. I thought clockwork wasn't ready for us thru rom manager yet?

So that means that we can create a Nandroid Backup? or the mounted internal memory as sd card will be a problem?
I knew to just wait and it would be a easier way to get clockwork recovery on my g2x using one click root v1.7 because the latest version 1.8 didn't work.plus I heard cyanogen mod 7 is only a couple weeks away

Nevermind....found it
Well I just double checked and it still does not detect internal sd card.. Wanted to post this as soon as double checked as I was using my external. let me look through it more and I will keep you updated
Thanks for the friendly welcome and replies. Im gonna check out that link.
edit:
i downloaded all requested files. when i plug in my phone it starts to read it correctly but then i get a window saying it did not install properly. i clicked root anyway and it wont get past "waiting for phone". did i do something wrong?

Not trying to pile on, but... Seriously?
There's nothing difficult about the guide. The rooting techniques have been simplified as much as possible, for this phone.
Customizing this phone is going to require a little bit of effort on your part, it's not going to root itself.

yeah I know how you feel about rooting O/P but I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406 also androidcentral.com is another good site too if you have not been their already.
Also I would look into how to un-root the htc inspire just in case if you want to go back.
I had to watch the video a couple of times but it was not to bad but I do recommend this make sure your updated I know I had to do a wifi update then your good.
But if you have your phone all set up root will rest your phone all over again contacts will be their just if you added or did anything to it. It sucks it took me like 30 mins to set everything back up lol
Ok, I understand rooting gives you access and you have to downgrade your phone for rooting and then get a custom rom to pyt to a rooted current or future version. Am I right?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Well from what I read on roms, roms will give you customs look and some better features I have not added and Roms yet really just wanted to remove bloatware Im still reading about Roms and how to install them...Also I was just reading through the steps about rooting I think by far bubbys root is the easiest way to root.
lol I ask a lot of ?s ha http://forum.androidcentral.com/inspire-rooting-roms-hacks/88094-rom-t-stock-rom-sense-unroot.html
just in case you need it.. Cause I did root back to stock..which now Im thinking about rooting today.. Just cause I dont like the bloatware but which is nice about root it gives unknown sources thats if you DL and app rather then the market place right now I use Side Load Wonder Machine its a pain to go through the pc but unknown allows you to DL 3rd party off a site. but other then having bloatware removed and having unknown sources thats all I did for rooting. Helpful hint is also looking into how to make a back up of your phone just in case something messes up.
Thank you so much for your support everyone... so one final question... what is bloatware?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
bloatware is all the pre install apps and like the blockbuster ATT nav, yelp etc. even though this is for droidX it works the same just copy and past this -----> Droid X Bloatware Removal How To Android 2.2 FroYo <-------- in youtube and its the 1st, or you can use titanium backup Pro to freeze the bloatware which makes the OS of the phone think its not their anymore and you can unfreeze it later if you need it.. over all its to save some memory on the phone..
So how do i save all memory to my sd card before rooting?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
what do you mean memory? like in apps, pics? their is an app called app2Sd in the market https://market.android.com/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.app2sd&feature=search_result
that may help also heads up if you root you can do a back up with titanium back up and it restore your apps on that half Im not a 100% sure just google it one of the things I miss from my iphone is the itunes for backing up my apps.Still have not found a program thats like itunes for backing up apps fully and add them back if needed.
to bad you can just drag your apps to your Pc and save.. =(
But what will move my pictures and music to the sd card?

I would suggest you download this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
Its a stock, rooted ROM with the latest updates.
Rename it PD98IMG.zip and put on the root of your SD card.
Pull your battery, then replace it...boot into hboot (vol down + Power)...if you're Radio S-Off, it should flash this image and you'll be stock rooted.
Once you get that flashed and loaded...you should have no problems with ROM Manager or SuperUser.
Just be sure you're Radio S-Off and it will say that at the top of your screen when you enter hboot.
It sounds like to me that you didn't load the upgrade ROM using bubby's one click. In other words...you thought you were complete but not quite.

not reboot...boot into the bootloader. Remember this won't work if your not S-off.
Boot into hboot...then let it find and load the PD98IMG.zip.
Then it will ask you to upgrade. Volume up to say yes...then let it do its thing.
Easy as pie....

I've heard about this tool but I've never used it. Seems a bit complicated in that you have to flash stuff before flashing rom, and after. Also once you run the program everything is gone completely. I like having control using root explorer to either move or delete the files that way if something does go wrong I just add it back onto my phone and change the permissions. Maybe it's just a lack of knowledge.

Hi,
It's a lot easier than it seems, and speeds the installation process up.
Perhaps , it's not for everyone, but the [OP] stated removing bloatware ,which it does in seconds.
It takes a while to configure the initial user text file, but once you have done it, you don't ever have to do it again.
And you only have to run it once after flashing the ROM.
It takes 30 seconds to run.

[Q] root sidekick 4g without sd card

does anyone know how to do this then install overdose or gingerclone v2? sorry for posting here didn't have 10 posts yet
No, I believe you can use superoneclick to root without SD but you will need an SD card to flash a new ROM.
Unless you (or find someone to) make a hiemdall one click flash of a ROM, to the best of knowledge there isn't one like this made
But if you borrow an SD from someone rooting is quick

If not than just search for something like su binary fix updater or whatever in the play store and you'll find it
But in truth I think most root apps and adb should work even without doing so
Oh, and glad to here you left the dark side, even if it is for a phone that hasn't been updated in too long, the sidekick has much potential but lacks the devs
Best of luck!

thanks! I tried doing the backup through the recovery but when I restore it hangs at the tmobile sidekick 4g boot screen. And which rom takes up the least amount of space? I get low storage on the phone :/ theres no way to assign the app to install on sd card?
Not sure why it hangs, may have been a bad backup or you forgot to wipe before restore?
Not sure which ROM is the smallest but yes you can store apps on SD, best to create an ext partition and put them there over fat32 partition.
There are apps in the play store and many as well on xda, just search around an youll find some as well as instructions
