does anyone know how to do this then install overdose or gingerclone v2? sorry for posting here didn't have 10 posts yet
No, I believe you can use superoneclick to root without SD but you will need an SD card to flash a new ROM.
Unless you (or find someone to) make a hiemdall one click flash of a ROM, to the best of knowledge there isn't one like this made
But if you borrow an SD from someone rooting is quick
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2221030
See post 27 in the link above for a manual method that works with both windows or Linux or use superoneclick to automate the process
Best of luck!

OFF TOPIC BUT i INSTALLED THE BLAZE 4G, WAS THAT A BAD IDEA?
nope, your fine
also i looked and i think the most updated version of version 5 can be found in post 17 HERE
I know some people had issues a bit with it but the download link is working if you want to give it a shot.
Id have to dig through my files and check but i may have some more updated versions that ricandroid and i were working on... but the project kinda just stopped
ill look for ad_vitamin then too (which is almost identical to go_v5 but better in my opinion) as soon as i can
wont be near my files until tomorrow at the earliest
for now try out a few roms, make backups of the ones you like and as always
happy flashing!

thank you! i love go_v5! its so awesome lol I had the modem working once but now the modem doesn't install on go_v5 and for ad_vitam. I choose wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, install the zip, then wipe dalvik cache and reboot. Am I doing something wrong?
Well these ROMs include a modem that should work fine, if you are having issues there is a thread with all the modems for this device and it is possible that another may work better for you
Glad you like the ROM!

nope none of the modems work am I doing something wrong? Could you tell me the steps you did to make go_v5 and ad_vitam work? I get E: unknown volume for path [/sd-ext] when I choose to wipe dalvik. At the end of the installtion for aroma for go_v5 I get set_perm_recursive()expects 4+ args, got -109755640 I don't know if that is an error or not
Nothing special
Wipe all partitions
Flash ROM
Reboot
That's it
I don't think it could matter if you have no ext partition on SD card, but feel free to make one if you think it will help

weird when you said that ad_vitam worked lol. What do you recommend using to back up the roms? and how do you update the su binary? it keeps popping up saying its outdated. Thanks for everything you've done

I tried the nandroid back up through cwm and it just vibrates and stays at the tmobile sidekick 4g welcome screen lol. what about the superuser su binary? how do i fix that error and is there a way to see emoji on this phone?
In truth its been well over a year since I used the sidekick, as far as I recall nandroid worked just fine
You can update the su binary easily through an app, its out dated on all ROMs on this phone I'm sure
Emojis? I guess use another SMS app that supports it?

If I remember right when you get that message a link will show to download an app from the market, run the app once or twice and all should work well
If not than just search for something like su binary fix updater or whatever in the play store and you'll find it
But in truth I think most root apps and adb should work even without doing so
Oh, and glad to here you left the dark side, even if it is for a phone that hasn't been updated in too long, the sidekick has much potential but lacks the devs

thanks! I tried doing the backup through the recovery but when I restore it hangs at the tmobile sidekick 4g boot screen. And which rom takes up the least amount of space? I get low storage on the phone :/ theres no way to assign the app to install on sd card?
Not sure why it hangs, may have been a bad backup or you forgot to wipe before restore?
Not sure which ROM is the smallest but yes you can store apps on SD, best to create an ext partition and put them there over fat32 partition.
There are apps in the play store and many as well on xda, just search around an youll find some as well as instructions

Just finished installing the official 2.2 release on my Captivate (problem free). Before installing I backed up everything to my SD card via titanium, then removed the lag fix, and did a hard reset / format using the dialer code, verified everything was wiped and all the internal storage was wiped clean (although MCR scripts and superuser didn't go away).
first reaction, THE LAG IS HORRIBLE. hoping it was a result of crapware, I rooted via SuperOneClick, reinstalled Titanium from the market, and removed all the ATT crapware, rebooted, and it is no better.
I've restored my apps and everything except facebook contact syncing seems to be working great, but the lag is awful! often I wait 3, sometimes 5 seconds before a screen click is even recognized.
are there any lag fixes that have been tested on, or at least suggested for the official 2.2 release?

I assume you are referring to the one used on 2.1, I don't remember the name, but it used MCR Scripts and was installed with an update.zip. once installed you ran MCR Scripts and "installed" the lag fix with 2 options, either 512mb or 1gb of space, and a third option to remove the lagfix
I ran the remove option before doing the upgrade

That was solved months ago. Go to the dev section, download the 5.x voodoo + stock KB1 kernel odin file, and flash it on. Phone will take a while to boot back up, but will tell you it is converting partitions to ext4. Once it comes back, you will see the amazing speedup from getting rid of the piece of **** known as RFS.
Is there anyway I can get lagfix by itself? I have no computer so id just like to download to phone, put in root and goto recovery mode.

Froyo uses 3e recovery I believe so it will not install any update.zips the only way I know of is using an alternate recovery...a kernel with 2e recovery or going the custom rom route like torch 1.5 or cog 4 in the dev section which use the new froyo
And for your no computer issue...i suggest you find mcdonalds or a neighbor and use the wifi and download one of those custom roms directly to your phone that have a lagfix included with root and no bloat. I do this all the time when I am in the field. Just some suggestions I hole they help and I understand your frustration.
He all! I just my G2X today and was wondering. Is it worth rooting yet with no cusom roms available? And if so, can someone point me in the right direction to accomplish this?
I came from the Vibrant and dont know where to start.
Any help, input and direction is greatly appreciated.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Welcome to the club I was also a Vibrant owner before this.. So here is some quick info that may help save you some time searching.
If you plan on keeping the phone I would root it to get rid of unwanted apps but that is each users own opinion. If you do want to root it I would read this thread to make it easy. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039985
Also if you want to add ClockworkMod Recovery all you need to do is get the newest version of rom manager off the market and select flash ClockworkMod Recovery and the G2X will be the third device down.
After that set back and wait for the custom roms to show up and you will be ready to have all kinds of fun
Hope that helps *some*

I installed Xboarders stock OTA with root and superuser is there so I assume I am rooted. The first thing on my list is to get rid of FU***** car home I have no use for that thing. so how do I do it. If someone can tell me how to do it for general apps that would be great because there are a few that I dont think I want.
Charlie
get root uninstaller btw how are you an |OP| ?
OM I Dont know What is an OP?
So there is a program in the market for it okay cool. Now I noticed that Xboarder included a few things along with the rom that have to be installed seperatly and the lg camera went back to stock so All I have to do is reflash the cammera and any of those tweeks that I might want right? Can I do it all at once or do I have to reboot each time I copy a .zip from my SD card?
And the other thing is I have been using mybackup pro because you didnt need root and it worked like a charm to restore all my apps and data I got titainium pro but do I really need it I noticed that now that I have root mybackup has a few extras for root users.
That brings me to another question what is the Dalvik cache? And should it be wiped. I get the impression it is kinda like RAM is that accurate? Sorry for all the questions but this is how I learn.

Android applications are basically java apps. Google didn't want to license java from Sun (now Oracle) so they wrote their own compatible version of it in a clean room environment (no intellectual property infringements but Oracle is suing them anyway) and called it "Dalvik." The Dalvik cache is the section of memory used by Android for java processes. Yes, it should be wiped EVERY time you flash a new rom or update any system app as a root user. Not clearing the cache can result in all sorts of problems including lockups, slowdowns and unexpected reboots. Keep in mind that after clearing the Dalvik cache the phone will take about five minutes to start up the first time (will be stuck on the boot screen while it is doing this) to rebuild the Dalvik cache. After the first boot the phone will be back to its incredibly short bootup time on subsequent boots. Do yourself a favor and clear the Dalvik cache.
Well now I see why I need titaium back up I answered my own question it is la multi purpose tool more than just backup. I noticed that you can do some damage if you uninsdtall certian programs I actually read that if you uninstall systerm apps it will stop you from getting any OTA updates in the future. I dont know how true that is anyone know? For now I just froze car home with titainium.

No. Root exists within the rom; if you change to a non-rooted rom from a rooted one you will lose root. However, unless you specifically go out of your way to unroot, a rooted rom will stay rooted.
Oh, and to answer your earlier question about Rom Manager, it's a totally unnecessary tool. There is nothing it does that you can't do manually from recovery. Ignore that it even exists.

If you want to use CWM, flash it to "real" recovery like you're supposed to.

Mmm, many questions...
Do you try full wipe/factory reset before installing new room?
Are you using a kustom kernel? If yes, try to reflash it. Customs kernels also includes CWM Recovery.
Sorry for my english!
Luck!
I did a full reset wipe and no I just installed the rom. Which at the moment I'm forgetting what its called
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Well. This is the first custom room you installed? If not, probably is a room bug, or the compatibility with your phone is not 100% funtionally.
If yes, perhaps the root is not correct. Why you dont try to re-root your phone?
Or try with another room and tested.
If still not working, dont worry, we will solve it!
Try BH's back to stock one click.
I'm curious what ROM you are using? Go to settings - about phone and it will tell you the name.
It was the ICBINB rom I believe.

Hello all,
I have a couple questions regarding rooting my phone
i have a fully stock vrz sgs3 and the only thing ive done to it is loaded a different launcher (nova prime). i want to root my phone so that i can backup everything ive downloaded onto it (contacts, pictures, but most importantly EVERY app ive downloaded) and also slap a rom on there for some unique customizations (was thinking CM10).
I suppose my first question would be, in the process of rooting my phone, will it wipe any/all data and leave the phone like it was when i first open the box?
and if it doesn't, will i be able to backup everything with a backup app (and also which one would be highest on people's lists) before i start getting that rom on there and going nuts making my phone my own?
thank you very much for everyones time and help with this!
happy new year!
slainte!
If you use the one click root method(http://droidmodderx.com/galaxys3/?page_id=159) which by the way is way easier and faster than Odin, you won't lose any of your data, afterwards you will download Titanium backup to backup all of your apps, I'm not sure if there's another app out there but trust me this is the one EVERYONE uses and the best one. Then download EZ-recovery(from the app store) and install the custom recovery CWM using the app itself and download EZ-unlock 1.2 (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32456-app-920-ez-unlock-14-easiest-way-to-unlock-your-bootloader/) since 1.4 is buggy, and press unlock to unlock the bootloader and then you can flash all the ROMs you want. You MUST have the bootloader unlock to flash custom ROMs/kernels and remember to always factory reset/wipe cache and dalvik and format system when flashing and don't ever flash a ROM from another carrier because it will brick your device.
Good luck.
I'm guessing you are on JB OTA right?

If so here is the only method to root it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35418324
You woo not lose your data doing it. Also, as a friendly tip download triangle away because this root method will trip your flash counter. Also, I HIGHLY recommend not downloading or following guides from other sites besides here and root, and maybe a select other few. Seen way to many bricks by following random guides.

Make sure you follow the root guide according to what software you are running. The ICS method does not work for Jellybean. Rooting will not wipe your data but flashing a ROM will. Just do a Nandroid backup in clock work mod (CWM) thats backs up your data with your ROM as well. You can download Titanium Backup to back up your apps. Sms backup will back up your txts and call logs.

Well put couldn't have said it better,
I would not jump right into an ASOP like CM10 for my first flash, you might want to start with a TouchWiz based rom like Clean rom first. AOSP roms in general take a few more steps to install and still have some occasional issues (data drops, getting stuck in roaming, and loosing IMEI (no data) any of which could lead to a day of anxiety and localized baldness (hair pulling)
I hope you know what your getting into.....You will never be satisfied with a stock rom again
Wow! What great responses everyone!
Thanks all for the great advise and help!
I'll keep you guys posted... If I still can from my phone

so i tried to do the root method you mention in the first part of your response, and it asked me if the uid and the gid are set to 0. there were not prompts for me to change the values of these id's so i assumed they were not set to 0 when the cmd asked me.
can you please advise on how to get these set to 0?
thank you!
Just check in the prompt, even if it's right it'll ask you, it'll say they're values in the prompt.

Then like I said earlier, those one clicks do not work on jb. You need to follow the guide I posted. That's why it's not working.

ok i think this might be my last question P
i have gotten as far as flashing the vralec and the cwm md5's onto my phone and gotten into cwm and installed the bootloader and it went perfectly and now i just need to reboot and its asking me "rom may flash stock recovery on boot. fix?
do i select "no" or "yes, disable recovery flash"?
i would prefer not to wipe any data so im guessing i select "yes..."
thanks again
Select yes or you will have to redo everything

Question
What is the difference between using the EZ-Bootloader or using Goomanager for TWRP?
I am not a fan of using apps just for the sake of it and having 3 of the same on my phone. I have seen people use Goomanager for TWRP, EZ-Bootloader and Rom Manager. All I want is one...so is there an advantage or disadvantage to using TWRP and uninstalling EZ-Boatloader?

EZ-Recovery has the the old TWRP preloaded last I saw but can load latest on sd card and use the app to install it. Goo Manager downloads the latest TWRP directly and installs. Rom Manager is for CWM.

Mr. Robinsons Route 66 K3 version works fine also. Just unlock bootloader before recovery flash.
