Bloatware removal - HTC Sensation

I have rooted and need help on bloatware removal. Any steps or app to help me? I'm using the sensation from T-mobile and I'be unlocked and rooted.

I've found this guide to be very helpful.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/thunderbolt-rooting-roms-hacks/72916-guide-how-remove-bloatware-thunderbolt.html
More good information about which apps can (should/shouldn't) be removed and how to change permissions if you need to put something back on your phone). - LINK

I've heard about this tool but I've never used it. Seems a bit complicated in that you have to flash stuff before flashing rom, and after. Also once you run the program everything is gone completely. I like having control using root explorer to either move or delete the files that way if something does go wrong I just add it back onto my phone and change the permissions. Maybe it's just a lack of knowledge.

Hi,
It's a lot easier than it seems, and speeds the installation process up.
Perhaps , it's not for everyone, but the [OP] stated removing bloatware ,which it does in seconds.
It takes a while to configure the initial user text file, but once you have done it, you don't ever have to do it again.
And you only have to run it once after flashing the ROM.
It takes 30 seconds to run.

How do I know which particular bloatwares to remove? I'm new to android. Less than a week old.

Hi,
Have a look at what is included in a basic ROM,by looking at THIS USER TEXT FILE.
You will also see guide alongside it showing what each one does.
Make sure you have notepad++(google it).

I have tried all I can but still can do the bloatware removal. I have rooted, enabled SU and I have installed root explorer but I don't know what to do now. The root explorer gives make access to the ROM but I don't know what to remove and how to remove it.

Root explore goto system/app then remove what you want.be careful though don't remove anything bad
Nexus S 4G using miui.us with matr1x kernal 9.0 and batttweak RC1

I have a Motorola Photon and I want to keep the diagnostic app for Sprint and the voicemail app, and I want to get rid of the camcorder beep sound everytime I start and close the program. Any input would be appreciated, thank you.

Don't tell me this doesn't have the reader app either, wtf.
I see EReader, does that not work? Because I don't have my Sensation yet, I can't test.

I am pretty new to HTC, I just moved over from the Vibrant. Do these app require the phone to be rooted before it can be installed or just installing the apk will work. I know with the Vibrant, you have to copy the files to the system directory. But in order to get there, I needed to root my phone. Is this the same thing?

Unless they've been altered they will require root. They may also have dependencies that don't exist on our altered systems. I took all the apps out of the posted stock roms on the dev board over the weekend. The only one that would install was sound recorder but that was installed via htc sync and it wouldn't work.
So far the only app I know will work is the car panel but I'm not sure where that even came from since I heard it was left out of the euro s4g too.

Both rooting methods are extremely watered down have you tried downloading either of them?
I am not trying to be rude, but if it is hard to understand, then I would recommend reading more before you root.

Not trying to pile on, but... Seriously?
There's nothing difficult about the guide. The rooting techniques have been simplified as much as possible, for this phone.
Customizing this phone is going to require a little bit of effort on your part, it's not going to root itself.

yeah I know how you feel about rooting O/P but I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406 also androidcentral.com is another good site too if you have not been their already.
Also I would look into how to un-root the htc inspire just in case if you want to go back.
I had to watch the video a couple of times but it was not to bad but I do recommend this make sure your updated I know I had to do a wifi update then your good.
But if you have your phone all set up root will rest your phone all over again contacts will be their just if you added or did anything to it. It sucks it took me like 30 mins to set everything back up lol
Ok, I understand rooting gives you access and you have to downgrade your phone for rooting and then get a custom rom to pyt to a rooted current or future version. Am I right?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Well from what I read on roms, roms will give you customs look and some better features I have not added and Roms yet really just wanted to remove bloatware Im still reading about Roms and how to install them...Also I was just reading through the steps about rooting I think by far bubbys root is the easiest way to root.
lol I ask a lot of ?s ha http://forum.androidcentral.com/inspire-rooting-roms-hacks/88094-rom-t-stock-rom-sense-unroot.html
just in case you need it.. Cause I did root back to stock..which now Im thinking about rooting today.. Just cause I dont like the bloatware but which is nice about root it gives unknown sources thats if you DL and app rather then the market place right now I use Side Load Wonder Machine its a pain to go through the pc but unknown allows you to DL 3rd party off a site. but other then having bloatware removed and having unknown sources thats all I did for rooting. Helpful hint is also looking into how to make a back up of your phone just in case something messes up.
Thank you so much for your support everyone... so one final question... what is bloatware?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
bloatware is all the pre install apps and like the blockbuster ATT nav, yelp etc. even though this is for droidX it works the same just copy and past this -----> Droid X Bloatware Removal How To Android 2.2 FroYo <-------- in youtube and its the 1st, or you can use titanium backup Pro to freeze the bloatware which makes the OS of the phone think its not their anymore and you can unfreeze it later if you need it.. over all its to save some memory on the phone..
So how do i save all memory to my sd card before rooting?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
what do you mean memory? like in apps, pics? their is an app called app2Sd in the market https://market.android.com/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.app2sd&feature=search_result
that may help also heads up if you root you can do a back up with titanium back up and it restore your apps on that half Im not a 100% sure just google it one of the things I miss from my iphone is the itunes for backing up my apps.Still have not found a program thats like itunes for backing up apps fully and add them back if needed.
to bad you can just drag your apps to your Pc and save.. =(
But what will move my pictures and music to the sd card?

for moving the pic and music I would just move it to your PC and when your doing rooting just transfer them back.
Im about to root my phone again in like 15mins Im using this again

[Q] Can we replace the vanilla Gingerbread MMS.apk with the HTC one?

EDIT: I realize that I messed up the title. I meant to write if we could replace the current HTC messaging app with the vanilla one.
Title says it all. I've gotten used to HTC's way of things but I'd really, really prefer the vanilla experience. Since we don't have S-OFF or custom AOSP roms yet, can we at least replace the MMS.apk on our Sensations with the vanilla one?
Bump. Does anyone have a clue? It's apparently been done on, for example, the G2. I'd really rather have stock messaging app.

Thanks for the answer. I guess this is another reason to anticipate S-OFF!
Right.....
Or how about you just install it with a file manager. Then disable the notifications from htc messagin app
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
I followed these steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11050253&postcount=2 and used the Mms.apk provided there, which should be the 2.3 vanilla messaging app.
Everything went fine when copying over to the phone, etc., but when trying to actually open the app on my phone it force closes from the start. It does show the vanilla mms.apk icon though, the green text bubble with the smiley. If I could get this to stop force closing and actually open/work, I'd be happy!
I'll get you a link to one.

If you have Root Explorer or any other explorer, then try to copy and paste it to /system/app/ and reboot the phone. Hope that helps.

Won't work ppl. We don't have perm yet. I don't think it would work even then if I remember correctly
It should work as we have temp root which last till the reboot. And if not then you cant just use adb to either install or push. There should be ways around this. :/

[Q] Can I root my phone, and still use the stock rom?

Hello,
I wanted to know if I can root my phone with "Revolutionary" and still use the stock rom or do you need to install a custom rom. I had the HD2 on T-mobile for the last year and have installed several nand roms. This is my first real Android phone. I really like the stock rom and I just want to be able to use Setcpu, Spare parts Pro, Blade Buddy Pro, etc. basically having access to OC and other things. I read how to S-off the phone from the link below. can I stop after step #3?
Thank you for any input.

[Q] Uninstall Superuser permanently

Hey guys,
I rooted my HTC One Mini in hope to get rid of all the Google Bloatware, then I found out, I would need S-OFF as well (screw you Google/HTC!). So I guess I'm sticking with disabling and hiding apps in the menu, therefore I don't need root anymore.
When I rooted my Mini, I also installed Superuser via the TWRP recovery and now I can't get rid of it anymore.
I tried uninstalling it while booted into the OS with RootExplorerKit but that doesn't work.
What can I do?
Any help is greatly appreciated. :fingers-crossed:

Have you tried uninstalling from inside supersu? I know there is an uninstall option under supersu settings.
As for removing bloat, have you tried using aroma file manager? It's a zip file you use from twrp which would allow you to delete files from recovery, like system apps. Should work without s-off as it's from recovery.
There is a s-off method which worked for my one mini, but I'm not sure it's 100% safe for all phones...

How to unroot the HTC One mini (M4)
Hello there. I own an htc one mini and want to unroot it on order to install the last update for Android and Sense now officialy available (didn't know it won't be possible to do it without going back to stock, TWRP always show up when the phone restarts for update installation). According to an unroot process I've found for the One (M7), it is said I need to get the ADT bundle + proper RUU file, but I can't find any RUU for the mini (M4) on the net, just nowhere...so sad. And if someone could help, which one would be for a european debranded phone (Switzerland actually) ? Thanks for your advice and all the best. ***Can't move this post to a new thread, as I've just noticed my error***

Thanks for answering. This is kind of bad news. I'm surprised no one have had the same problem, the mini seems to be unknown from the public.
Then I'll move to new roms, any idea about the cyanogen one ? Doesn't seem available yet.
CM11 is still in the early stages by the looks of it, but it's being worked on, and many thanks to h8rift for his efforts so far. I'm currently using Magio R3 and loving it.
Seems HTC have left us mini owners to stagnate, with very little if any source code release among other things like the lack of app compatibility. If HTC doesn't step up it's game I don't think I'll be using the company again...
I previously came from a Samsung phone and their source releases were always available. I'm now starting to regret the move in companies, especially with the reports of cracks appearing in the plastics of the HTC one mini phone, which luckily I haven't suffered yet, but is a daily worry for me as I'm tied to a 2 year contract.
Don't get me wrong though it's a nice phone, but is lacking in some support and quality.
Sent from my HTC One mini using xda app-developers app
Hi Ruff,
Thanks again for answering.
I'm not very keen in Magio but it only based on screen captures I've seen, CM seems more accomplished to me, but it's only an impression. Indeed there are very few source of information about the mini and exactly like you, if HTC products can't attract more users and thus more developers, I won't buy any other device from them. That was my second but also probably last try.
Since the Galaxy S1 came up, I've only bought Samsung phones, actually I chose the mini for its design cause I found the S3/s4 rather ugly.
I faced cracks with the HTC One S, supposed to be built with special ceramic, and after 3 months the screen freezed then the phone died...
I like this phone very much as well, but because I've rooted the phone in order to install new roms (and didn't find almost any rom because of the lack of development) and thought it would be easy to unroot it, which is actually impossible, now I can't benefit from natural development proposed by HTC...I feel like an idiot and this is what I am with a strong probability.
Now I can only but waiting on someone proposing a tutorial for dummies explaining how to go back to stock rom with their M4.
Saying that, all the best and waiting for my Saviour
Best way to do it is to s-off your mini using revone method and then lock your mini and remove the tampered flag. After that download the ruu from htc.com at the support and then mini. Just take the ruu and your bootloader will show locked and s-off if you done it correctly and no one really check your s-off thing.

Thanks for your suggestions but it sounds chinese for me, looking at the revone method then it looks even more japanese. About the ruu on htc.com, I didnt' find it, the only download they propose is the sync manager.Regarding my little knowledge, what I need now is a structured tutorial. Therefore I'll do searches on web now and then and probably one day someone will propose it. Thanks for your help anyway. Cheers guys
