Hi.
I realy want to upgrade from my Nokia N85 (Yup, good old symbian (from the days it was still good)), So I'm looking for a new smartphone.
What I need in my phone is a good CPU, gaming (no need for best in the market), a good camera and good build quality. Also, I realy like the HTC Sense.
there are a few devices that caught my eyes:
Desire HD
Desire
SE X10
HD2 and flash android (is it fast as native android phones?)
Which should I choose? I need a phone that will be usable for a couple of years (yup, long time). Any other suggestions would be great, only thing, I'm not going to buy samsung (bad experience from the past), and my budget is not unlimited (Desire HD is the highest I would pay, but I might go for it).
thanks in advance
I am choosing between same phones (but not dhd), and i think, i can add one more, Acer Liquid Metal.
Very good price, inside it is desire z, but support isn´t good as HTC. Now I am really don´t know, which one i choose.

Liquid Mt looks nice through hardware, but I realy like the HTC Sense and build quality, plus its not even available in my country (almost no-one imports it).
anybody? I realy need an advice, which phone should I choose?
I'd go with the HTC Desire. Great developer's support and you can get one used for ~$300 USD.
If you want the 4.3' display, it'll cost you around $425-$450.
Is the CPU/GPU on the Desire good enough for a couple of years (will it be good for games in that time?)
and how is the HD2 with android? is it as fast as a native android device?

I run NAND MIUI Android on HD2 and it is very fast. I tried several Android builds and that based on Desire rom are very fast (if you like Sense). These with newer Sense (ex. DHD) are also fast but sometimes there are some glitches. If you don't like Sense there is always CM7 - it's crazy fast
I bought HD2 to have Android but tried also WP7 and I'm very shocked it works so great. I recommend HD2 but the choice is yours.
dream
If you like to choose from a wide range of roms, you should get yourself a G1 (HTC Dream). The phone is cheap nowadays and should be easy to root. I'm running COS-DS gingerbread 2.3.3. rom on my G1 and it works nearly perfect.

Thought of buying this one as a secondary once, for development and trying stuff, but I don't have much spare money. So at least for the near future I'm not going to buy a Dream. And I want a device also for gaming.
i think desire hd is best choise!

Definitely not X10. The X10 series have been lacking in support from Sony (though XDA gives plenty) and it doesn't have very good hardware parts too.
HTC would be a good choice, value for money.

I don't have Desire but my friend does and the performance of HD2 seems to be higher than Desire. But if you don't want to play with WP7 and other OS', I'd consider buying DHD.
I think if you just look calls, text messages and other basic function, you can choose to nokia. If want to play big game, pay attention to the entertainment function should choose android system, DHD is right choice

I'm not a basic user, I use lots of internet, games and stuff, plus many applications.
And as I said from the beggining, I'm probably going for a droid, that's why I asked for advice.
Take the Desire HD, you'll enjoy it, I promise you.
Pesah Sameah, gever.
How is the difference in the battery life between the Desire and the Desire HD?

Hi you all...
I'm thinking on buying a new phone, but i'm indecisive and really dont know what to buy!
I am really undecided between Htc Hero or Acer Liquid...
I know that Hero was one of the best phone 5 months ago with Android?? But it still is? Or Liquid from Acer is a big, big promise?
Wich one do you guys think it's better (in terms of browsing, if not having multitouch is a big deal, and other things)?
Does anyone have tried both of them? If not, what do you think anyway?
Thanks in advance.
Welcome to forums
As we dedicate here only to HTC devices, go for Hero!!
Also on the other device you won´t get the great support of XDA! that is a must at least for me
lol, i figured...
The only thing that's holding me back is the processor!!!
Won't the Hero processor get a little bit outdated ?? Or is it still be a hero fighter?
Thanks for the quick answer.
Acer Liquid is better just solely based on the newer Snapdragon, even though underclocked. Performance on HTC phones has been, and still is, a major issue for me. (HTC not paying for full drivers etc..)
Only thing holding me back from the Liquid would be its sound quality. Anyone have any idea if the Liquid's speakers handles voice calls/music playback decently?
Yes xda supports HTC phones, but does HTC even care or listen? ah well..this is an issue for another day..
As I'm a HTC fan: HTC Hero is my option
I would go for liquid..
Snapdragon rocks!
Acer all the way.
Much better hardware (CPU, RAM, cell frequencies, ...)
AND you could stick it to HTC for dumping their bug-ladden, unfinished phones on us for years! Drivers anyone?
Wouldn't surprise me if the Hero/Magic/etc have problems supporting future versions of Android.
I think that HTC make very nice phones and HTC Hero/Magic/etc will support future versions of Android, very stable and fast
Acer liquid hands down! Snapdragon is significantly faster than ARM11 based MSM72xx. Not to mention the larger (and higher-res) screen.

Haha. You are kidding, right?
The 528MHz CPU is probably too slow right now.
How will it be able to handle future / more intensive versions of android?
No, I'm not kidding, because I'm a fan of HTC

Check out that forum.
There is 3 people posting there.
The Liquid has the much better hardware.
But HTC has the better customers.
I vote for Liquid. I have Acer F1 and I'm totaly satisfied.
I get tired of buying overpriced HTC products. They still produce mobiles with 528 CPUs (almost 3 years OLD). HTC gives to people poor GPS, low volume, buggy software and old hardware. Do we have to support them anymore?
XDA is our favorite forum because we have problems and they create apps that make HTC products to meet their potentials. They do all the hard work. How many apps from XDA are now on HTC products?
Do we want to be beta testers for a 600+ euro mobile like HD2?
Come on HTC. Give us real up to date tecnology to keep us close. Otherwise I would go for Samsung, Acer or... whatever.
Acer Liquid with HTC Sense would be the best!
But have to wait till htc Bravo releases.
So we have sence for WVGA Android devices.
You should probably consider the Motorola Droid/Milestone as well.

I can if I want to.
The keyboard on the Milestone is useless anyway, so you may as well regard it as a phone that doesn't have a physical keyboard.
Hardware and logic tell me Acer.
Hi guys,
I wanted to buy Desire but just found out about HD2 Android development, I really love the big screen of HD2 so just wondering do you think it will be able to run Android as good as Desire in future?

Don't count on it.
Get the HD2 for it's Winmo 6.5.5 which is better than the overhyped android
It's an OS for serious people, not kids who need fart apps.
It does everything you need in a portable device.
You need to decide why you have such a phone though, Anrdoid may be what you need.

Actually WinMO has no future thanks to Microsoft's stupid policies! I used to have a HD2 just traded it since I wasn't able to find a decent VNC Client on it! Just been dying to see Android on HD2, the videos posted today looks really great, it seems developers are near a great working build!
@Eienkei
Try realvnc! There are a lot of VNC-clients
@Topic
Hd2, because it's LCD is better than the PenTile AMOLED!
Leo all the way!!!
Since Winmo 6.5 is dead walking, HD2 depends on XDA-Developers only! Hope they don't let us down!!!
I previously had an HD2 before I bought my Desire and to be honest with some of the ROMs that you can get from here it was almost on Par with the Desire, the screen is gorgeous and I loved being able to use it in landscape, only thing that was a killer for me was the lack of Spotifiy which I use a lot so Android seemed the way to go, but I'd still consider picking up another HD2 again as a plaything if I saw one cheaply.
I could also choose between the hd2 and desire, I chose the hd2 mainly for the huge screen. A friend of mine chose the desire instead of the hd2 because of the better app store for android. I suggest to simply try them out in a shop. To me xda is just as good as the android app store, so I'm happy with my decision.
If what you want is android, get the desire.

I also think so.
They say Desire HD is on the way, it sports 4.3 inch display! It would be amazing! But still, HD2 is here right away!!!
Hey,
I'd like to buy a new device soon but I'd like to keep the price as low as possible.
So I actually wanted to buy the Desire HD (600€).
But then I noticed that some devs got the Desire HD ROM working on the HD2.
So the HD2 is available for around 350€ here.
What would you say?
Can the HD2 provide the same quality and is the Desire HD ROM running nearly as good as on the native Desire HD?
Thanks in advance,
Florian
I have a HD2 and a HTC Desire and my advice would be, if Android is your weapon of choice for an operating system, go with an android device.
I've tried a number of Android Roms on my HD2 and although they are great, they are still in development and battery life is an issue with the Rom having to be run off the SD card.
Have you considered a HTC Desire?
I've noticed the screen sizes of your mentioned devices. So have you also looked at other phones with big screens such as evo 4g, captivate, vibrant and epic 4g?

The hd2 boots the desire and the desire hd roms so for the price id say the hd2 you get the best of every thing hands down
with new wm roms built to run android battery life is no longer an issue
A HD2 doesn't run the Desire ROM as good as the Desire and does not yet match it closely for battery life. However I'll add that i'm running a stock WM ROM on my HD2.
If you want Android working out of the box then get an android device. Just be aware the HD2 may require tweaking to death to get it to work well and not everbody is prepared for that.
My reason for suggesting the Desire is the price as i think it is coming down in price alot now and is a very good buy.
All my opinion of course
I was also in this dilemma for a while, and I wanted so much to try android, and the same time keep it on the safe side with a windows mobile, so i got 2 days ago the HTC HD2, put Dutty ROM, and i am trying a few android roms, and for now, i like it very much.
Android on HD2 is not perfect yet, but it is going in this direction, but it is very usable, need just to find the correct edition to use...
I would say Desire HD. Has the 2nd Gen 1 ghz snapdragon CPU, an updated GPU, and 769 MB of RAM. Also it now has permanent root.
Hi guys,
I need to buy a PDA. I have 3 devices in my budget:
X10
HD2
Desire
Which one to go for? I am more leaned towards HD2 with a hope that it runs Android with all functions (including Camera / Good battery life + no issues with Mic for Incoming / Outgoing Calls) & it will also support WinMo7.
Please share your opinions esp. for HD2 vs Desire
sounds to me like you have already made up your mind
hTC Leo: You can have both Android and WM, and perhaps WP7
hm..
But how is your experience with LEO running Android? battery will survive for one day? or less?
Any problems with Calls?
My experience is great
all works almost same as in Android native devices , battery lasts less than in WM but can make it a day.
Not any prob with calls really.
@orb:
Are you using any WinMo ROM on your HD2 or is the default one?
i was going through a Thread where almost majority of the people were not happy with HD2.. may be because of the Stock ROM?
Of course I´m not using stock!
I flashed to a cooked ROM since day 1, have a read on Leo section so you´ll find out what members think of this super device!
Desire, i think thats why better than HD-2, unless your the guy who wants to switch to OS's everyday

I use the latest stock ROM for my HD2 on O2, never had a problem with it.
Also install SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 as I find it a better interface.
What do you actually want to use your phone to do though?
Most people from what I've read run android on their HD2 because it's cheaper than getting a desire HD, they don't really flip between the two.
What sort of user will you be?
Yup want to use it for Android with a hope that WinMo7 will run on it one day

Ok in that case there's no hope for you
Your option is the HD2 as I doubt WP7 will be ported to an android phone.
Have you played with WP7 yet?
I seriously recommend trying it out in a shop if your choice is android and WP7, because if you discover WP7 is not for you, it's better to find out sooner and then just buy an android phone.
Hey Guys,
a friend want my Desire but i don't know if I want it ?
My Desire isn't Original, on it is a Custom Rom and many other things,
so the HD2 wont be original for a long time, i want to make Android on it, it looks really easy, maybe its my experience what it makes very easy.
Now to my Question(s):
Is Android really stable on the HD2?
Can I do the same things like with the desire?
Is the HD2 a good smartphone and is it better or poorer than the desire?
I think the HD2 has much style but it gives many things they are worse...
Help me Please and sorry for my bad english
Trade
my advice keep your desire you will be sorry you traded

Keep your Desire , you're better off
Infused with CM7 Beta 3 by BehradGH in my Galaxy Ace using XDA App
Personally i'd hang onto the Desire. Screen size could be the deciding factor for you though. Do you like 'em small or large?
I think Desire is built better (based on my personal handling experience).
I'm quite rough with my gadgets so I always go for the better build quality.
And not to mention that the Desire is an awesome phone.
Yes, I think die big display is nice, but i think its to big, because I want to work with one hand on my smartphone and not with two.
I keep the desire.
Thanks a lot
