[Q] SPRINT HTC Arrive - Locked Registry - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I think they have closed the door on the HTC Arrive T7575 from Sprint with the provxml and HTC Connection Setup Hack. T7575 does not respond well to the standalone provxml installer by xboxmod -- it shows "carrier not found in list".
Yesterday (4/13/2011) the HTC Connection Setup worked with the CustClear.provxml in the Windows Folder.
Today (4/14/2011) the HTC Connection Setup program is different and the hack no longer works.
Is there any other way to gain root access to edit the registry on the T7575's? If someeone has something to try, I'll be happy to report the results, as I've hard reset 3 times in the past 24 hours.
Thanks in advance!
Check out this post for more details of my failed efforts: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12876054&postcount=181
EDIT: thinking a bit, does someone have the xap of the old HTC Connection Setup?!

its attached in this "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=911579" post .
the name is "HD2-WP7 Activation Tools and Guide.7z" , unzip it and sideload it to the phone , but remember to first install the on that is on the phone right now

Thanks! I found EXACTLY what I was trying to do with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916098
Going to be diving down the other apps as well to be able to write my own registry values -- thanks again!

How do I restore the Block Recognizer

Hi all!
I have just updated my TP2 (Verizon) to WinMo 6.5. The Block Recognizer has disappeared. Verizon's response is a resounding "oh well".
I understand there is a registry entry that will restore the feature. Anyone have any ideas or solutions?
I am desprate, my fingers are too big for the on screen keyboards.
Thanks for advance.
Uncle Eric
Im guessing you also dont like using the slide out keyboard (which i am happily using to type this). I dont know the reg edit for the block recognizer but i can suggest 2 soft input panels u can try. One is Spb keyboard (not free) which has a much bigger onscreen keyboard. There is also my favorite solution for onscreen keyboards....Swype. Its free because it was pulled from the rom to another HTC phone and is compatible with the tp2. If u want the cab let me know. Do a google search to find out how it works. I believe it is a much more efficient way of typing onscreen. If ur not interested in the cab then maybe someone else can throw their hat in as far as the reg edit. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the response.
What I really want is the feature in WinMo 6.1 restored in 6.5. The Verizon Imagio has this feature, I guess, because of the lack of a keyboard.
I like the "Palm Grafitti" type input, I have been using it since the first Palm device shipped, before WinMo or Windows CE even existed.
I am told there is a registry entry to fix all this, maybe I need to find an Imagio and look at its registry. I do know it is not just a 1 or 0, its one of those long {xxx-xxx} type entries.
Thanks again for the suggestion, but it does not work for me.
Uncle Eric
htc has a hotfix for this "HotFix RHo09076". it is on the htc site. it reinstalls the block recognizer and transcriber.

This hotfix does NOT work for the Verizon phones; I'm unsure for others.
I do know that all verizon did was disable the registry value for a few of the SIP(block recognizer and transcriber) and left all the dependent files alone(dll's, registry entries, etc.).
If you're comfortable with a regedit then here's what you'll need to do:
Letter Recognizer
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{42429690-ae04-11d0-a4f8-00aa00a749b9}\IsSipInputMethod
"Default"="1" – Enabled
"Default"="0" - Disabled
Block Recognizer
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{42429691-ae04-11d0-a4f8-00aa00a749b9}\IsSipInputMethod
"Default"="1" – Enabled
"Default"="0" – Disabled
Transcriber
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F0034DD0-2AD4-11d1-9CB0-E84BE8000000}\IsSipInputMethod
"Default"="1" – Enabled
"Default"="0" - Disabled
it worked for my verizon tp2 with update to stock wm6.5
I found the registry entries and made the changes.
Unfortunately, this does not make the block recoginizer selectable.
On the menu that selects the keyboard, etc, there should be a selection "other input methods", after selecting that menu, the menu to select "block recognizer " appears.
I suspect there is another step here to add the "other input methods" or "block recognizer" to the selection menu.
The menu is located by pressing the up carret that is next to the keyboard icon.
Thanks
Uncle Eric
I found the Block/Letter Recognizer hotfix. It was on HTC's UK site. Can't post links yet, but it's at:
htc.com/uk/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=822&news_id=435
Problem was, when I went to install it I got an "unsupported device" error. So I edited the XML and made a CAB.
Hope this helps people out, I spent the better part of an afternoon looking for a fix and couldn't find one.

ScottSNX - you are a LIFESAVER... I thought I was losing my mind - because I know when I was in the verizon store I saw the block recognizer on the htc imagio and a friend of mine had the touch pro2 (but maybe windows 6.1) and it was there - which is one of the reasons I bought this device. I was pulling my hair out trying to find a solutions - thank God I came upon your post... This definitely works.. it literally took me 1 minute to download and it installed and worked in 30 seconds. I can't thank you enough!!!
Thanks ScottSNX
I completely agree. Thanks ScottSNX!
Hi. I have HTC touch 2 (mega). I have tried ScottSNX posted htc touch pro2_rho09076.cab
on my device. Now, I can choose block recognizer, but it doesn't work. Any help for me, please

Are you using a custom rom or have you upgraded to the new Sprint rom that HTC released a week or two ago?
Will this work for the Sprint Touch Pro 2?
Thankx for the HD2 Fix

Your .cab file did the job for my HD2. Dude, you rule!
Awesome
Thanks ScottSNX my block recognizer is up & running. Great work!
It works.
My Tmobile TP2 does not have this issue. A friend got one from Verizon and I "fixed" it with the .cab file.
Thanks ScottSNX!
How do you install this fix?

Thanks for the fix. Believe me I'm glad someone did this, I'm lost without my block text!
Only, now, I need someone to walk this old man through how to install it.
I've downloaded it to my PC and tried to copy it to the phone. Won't copy.
I've downloaded it using my phone but when I open the folder I saved to, no file.
I'm sure it's simple but if you don't know how, it's frustrating.
Thanks again.
Works great
I installed and it works great. Now I can take notes again. Was a little rough using the board. Thanks for all the effort

Bump!
(Version MR1 just installed)
Have you connected your phone and computer (USB) using Microsoft ActiveSync? Find in the ActiveSync window the Explore utility...should be one of three selections available in a toolbar just below the standard File/Edit/View... toolbar.
Select Explore...and you'll see a typical Explorer view of your phone and its files.
Now, you can drag and drop the .cab file, for example.
Go now to your phone file explorer, find the .cab file...and run it. Voila!
My only question now, is -- I seem to recall that there was an on-screen keyboard with smaller keys than any of the keyboards now available. Is this another "enhancement" in 6.5.
Many thanks to Scott...on behalf of all of us (both of us? -- tee hee) who use the stylus for something other than just tapping. Letter and block recognition is awesome. If you haven't tried it in a while, I urge you to do so...it has come a long way!

[Q] Chevron-less unlock?

Really curious about this. Looking at the registry settings below. If this is all that's required for a device to be converted to an unlocked developer device, would it be possible to bypass Chevron completely and just manually edit the registry? And if so...would this not mean that the same method could be applied even when the new wp7 update comes out? I realize that not all handsets allow full registry editing prior to being unlocked and modified, but for those that do allow it, might this be an option?
-Allow max number of unsignd apps
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg\Install]
"MaxUnsignedApp"=dword:7fffffff
-Prevent Relock for ChevronWP7 unlocked device
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg]
"PortalUrlProd"=""
"PortalUrlInt"=""
-Developer Unlock the device(this is what chevron apply)
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Security\LVMod]
"DeveloperUnlockState"=dword:1
I tried to edit my registry file and it errors saying i cant edit the file. my phone is unlocked by chevron, and hasn't been upgraded yet. how do i edit the registry file.

uhm i've only looked into lg handsets, myself. they all come with registry editing through the manufacturer configuration menu which allows full registry access. you'd have to look at your specific phone to see if it gives registry editing options in a similar method.
im pretty sure it should work.
the HTC HD7 as far as I know doesnt have a mfg built in reg editor. My phone is unlocked at the moment, but I'm sure that the NODO update will overwrite my reg file and revert it back to locked mode. And that being said the reg editor probably wont work. Argh.. sucks, but Im sure there's a way to work around all this. I mean, its windows, the most hacked os in existence!
I'm almost tempted to do a full reset on my phone again and try to change the registry settings on their own without using Chevron to see if it will be unlocked or not. Because of it works, then those with MFG apps will be able to set dev mode regardless of any software update. And through that there may be methods that can be used to do something similar on other phones.
It might work for LG owners, yes. However, few knows yet what the fix in NoDo entails. I guess we're just gonna have to wait and see. And hope that the MS-Chevron interim homebrew solution will be a reality and not lag too much.
By the way, this alone seemingly doesn't result in a fully developer unlocked state. Debugging on the phone with Visual Studio is resisting, for example. Devtool app deployer works though.

Works on LG indeed.
This has been discussed weeks ago, both here and in the LG Optimus 7 dev board. Yes, this is possible through the built-in registry editor, and no Chevron or certificate by email is needed. The registry editor is a little spartan, but works flawlessly, and can change just about any key or entry.
The only other device I know, or I think I know that has a registry editor is Dell Venue Pro...right? If so, someone should give this a try on their DVP...
Well I was referring to it working or not after NoDo arrives, which was what the OP was pondering.

[Q] Allow Max number of Apps

I thought I was only having problems with the Samsung Tools when I try to sideload the xap file. But I tried other xap files and it still gives me the same error: "Please make sure your phone was unlocked..."
But my phone is unlocked.
Now, I'm thinking that I can't install anymore because I've reached my max. And when I try to do the registry tweak (from the forum) to allow max number of apps, it won't let me. I've tried with the Registry Editor and the SamsungRegistry app to no avail.
Can someone please help me! I have a samsung focus and the tools available here seem to work only for HTC devices. Thanks.
Im having the problem of reaching the max number, i deployed an app and recieved the message that ive reached the maximum, so im going to try and edit the registry untill i find the answer.
but, i think this may be the answer..
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg\Install]
"MaxUnsignedApp"=dword:7fffffff
&& install is one word, but for some reason on my browser its showing "in stall"
There is already an app for that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916098
Zune set the limit back at a regular basis, so rerun the app before deploying a new xap.
I couldn't edit the registry since I had a Focus. However, I forgot that I had the advanced config app and there was a button on it to allow for max number of apps. I'm good now!!!
Focus with NoDo and an unlocked phone!!!
Woooohooooo!!!
Thank you everyone for being soooo smart! I also am using the XDA app. Pretty amazing!!

[Q] I'm New HD7 user - Sideloading question

i was a HD2 use untill yesterday, now i have a HD7. my problems is that I have a Dev account and i unlocked the HD7. but i cannot sideload more than couple of app. i try the registry edit to do it manually but i keep getting that the path in hidden (install\MaxUnsignedApp not showing). i also try the removesideloadlimit app and it works but it stop working and work and stop working.....
You need to use the HTC Connection Setup method of editing the registry once you are on Mango to do any registry edits, including the one to allow more than 3/10 sideloaded apps.
A search of the forums will answer questions on how to do this.

Thanks for the info, but I do not want to go to mango. I want to stay in NoDo. I just want the ability to sideload application like in the hd2, no limit. I have look all over the wp7 forum and hd7, but I keep finding is removing sideload limit app (it works but Zune block it after a while) and the registry (dont work, because I cannot find the folder to change the key) and adv config. ( don't seen to work)

Sorry, didn't realize you weren't on Mango. Despite that, the process is the same as has been described in any posts you have found. The registry needs to be edited. If Zune is restoring your settings, its because the official dev unlock will always limit the number of apps. You'll need to do a Chevron unlock in order to get the limit removed.

In NoDo, just use a registry editor. Than add key to create the hidden keys/values. This is how I did it before provxml & is easier if you're only doing a few edits. Also, certain apps have an option to apply this for you such as Advanced Configuration Tool.

Advanced configuration tool didn't, and the registry I couldn't apply because I couldn't find the key under "devicereg". I think it was Zune resetting my limit sine I had a original dev unlock key. But I just downgrade to 7004/7008 and unlocked the phone with chevron and then updated to NoDo. Everything looks like its working fine.

[Q] MMS, Mango, HTC, AT&T problem? (Solved)

Alright ladies and gents I come to you for a bit of help. I have been running 7712 since it's release. I rarely get mms messages but the other day I got one. Problem is I can't seem to open it. I just keep getting "Get media content" message.
I thought about going to AT&T about this but since I am running beta software I know how those people can get.
A few things I have done:
1st: I have no problems with 3g or data (such as internet, streaming, etc)
2nd: Manually set the APN to both of AT&T's options per their website. (No luck)
I have scoured the forums as best I could with it's limited search functionality and best answer I could find was a thread that said to
"Run ADC option to automatically configure Data and MMS settings on reboot." Now I know I can do this via provxml but my problem is I am not certain how the key would look nor the correct way to write it so that provxml will provision correctly. (Any help would be greatly appreciated)
Or is there a HTC version of the samsung tools that will automatically trigger this flag?
Thank you for any help.
I'm thinking it's an AT&T problem, cause last night my phone switched to Edge, eventhough I've always had full bars&3G in my house.

After a lot more searching this is what needs to be added

"MaxAttemptsAllowed"=dword:3

The attached .XAP file didn't work for me, but editing those entries manually did. Finally have MMS working with my LG Optimus 7 on T-Mobile USA. Thanks
wow it worked on my lg quantum unlocked to tmobile. thanks a bunch
Thanks man!!! That was the solution to my mms problem too! =)
Can someone help me with this PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE??
I think this is what I need to get my MMS working on my AT&T HTC Surround on my t-mobile network.
Everything works except me receiving or sending MMS messages.
Where do I download this file to? I downloaded Mango but I have no idea how to use it.
Your phone needs to be developer-unlocked to install XAP files. There are already a few posts on this forum explaining the different ways to get dev-unlock. ChevronWP7 Unlocker won't work unless you're still on pre-NoDo (build 7004/7008, definitely not on Mango), ChevronWP7 Labs may be available by now, though (if not, then soon).
Once you have dev-unlocked your phone, you can use any XAP deployment tool to install the app. There's an official one that comes with the tool download from create.msdn.com. However, in order to use this particular app (or any app that needs to edit the registry), if you're on Mango you'll need another step for Interop-unlock. Refer to the Development and Hacking sub-forum for info on interop-unlock. If you haven't actually upgraded to Mango yet (phone is on build 7389, 7390, 7392, or 7403) then you can install and run the app without needing anything more than dev-unlock.

Thanks as well. This worked for me.
Can't believe how simple it was to do.
By the way, if you guys have Advanced Config installed, this is just the registry values for "Run ADC" (Auto Data Config) which is an option in ADC. Juuuust thought you might like to know. Thanks @Laquox for providing the values and app anyhow, though!

I did have advanced config and the checkbox for ADC was checked. However it still didnt work. Doing this did the trick.
Am I doing something wrong with Advanced Config. Should I have cleared and re-checked the box or something?
Well, I think ADC does require rebooting, but otherwise what you did really should just be the same as checking that box. Mind you, some versions of Advanced Config work better than others...
