I'm searching the threads for info on unlocking my phones? failing! I can't understand most of what I'm reading and I'm not sure this is something I can do myself. I purchased 3 of these SX56 in a lot and all are asking for a SIM PIN with my AT&T sim card.
I'm clueless and quite ignorant on the subject. I seen on thread saying to copy a link to the phone and run it?????? I don't know how to do that and I don't want to screw this up. any advice for a newbie?

First and foremost, you either have an SX56 or a Blue Angel. The Blue Angel is the SX66, the SX56 is an older device called by the name of Wallaby. Please specify which one you did get exactly so that we can direct you to the right place for help.
The sx56 is the phone that is SIM locked. I tried the XDA developers ROM for wallaby last night and failed. Now one of the phones are stuck in the "upgrading" mode and I'm afraid it's hopeless. any idea if it can be recovered? I think the problem was with the activesync, it wasn't current enough and I was required to get a newer version. I downloaded the latest free version and it said my phone was updating but it didn't??????

All phones are SIM locked (unless it is unlocked by either manufacturer or by the user). If the phone was SIM locked and you tried to upgrade it without unlocking, then you might be in trouble. Now, your phone is in "upgrading mode", and what you are trying to say is that the phone is in bootloader mode... if it can access bootloader, then you still have a fighting chance.
First of all, we agree that you have a Wallaby and not a Blue Angel, correct? (the one with the big black external antenna that houses the stylus). If that is not the case, now would be a good time to let us know.
Second, your message wasn't exactly clear. what did you exactly do to your phone to get it stuck in bootloader? Please go step by step on what you did...
My phones are the Wallaby SX56, these are SIM locked but the carrier is AT&T according to the logo on the front of the phone. I put my AT&T SIM card in the phone and it asked me for a SIM PIN.
Here's the steps I took to get where I am currently,
went to Wiki XDA Developers and found my device "Wallaby" Clicked the link to unlockwiz and chose my device "I have a Wallaby" Next question asked if my ROM version was on te list, it was not and I choose accordingly. I did not have a serial cable and I choose not to back up my current ROM to opt for the "special edition" by XDA Developers This is a new phone to me and I had no need of any saved contact info, next I clicked the link download and install "special edition ROM" Here's the link I used

***I think I just found my failure, under readme: system requirements do not include Vista! I went to microsoft and downloaded a newer version of activesync and it was not compatible with Vista. I ran a program there to fix the compatiblity issue and it said download complete.***
the phone recognized the USB connection last night and I started the download, during the download I got an error message that the COMM/USB port connection had failed and to check the connection in device manager.
at the time device manager was showing the HTC device but now it's not. I cannot find the activesync program on my computer and my device is not showing up anywhere when I connect it to the computer.
I noticed at the bottom of my screen, the "safely remove hardware" Icon used to stay on the bar until I clicked it to remove the device, now the icon closes after a few seconds when the device hasn't been disconnected. not sure if this is important or not but maybe helpful.
currently the phone is in bootloader and when I connect it to the USB it shows up in the device manager but status is "the device cannot start" code 10 please check for solution with microsoft.

I don't know how to "try" anthing from where I'm at, My activesync is missing, the phone is not recognizing the USB link, vice versa. where do I start?
I'm only kidding about selling the phone for parts but I might not have a choice. I need recovery
I've got activesync again but not sure whats next, I get an error in windows mobile trying to connect to one of the other wallabies. I need to know how to recover the bootloader phone?????
Try to do it with a XP computer rather than a Vista one. It is not only a matter of ActiveSync, but the way the OS works with the flashing...

So tell me where to start once I get to an XP machine. I'm in bootloader so do I start the entire process over as if I weren't in bootloader? and am I using the right link "unlockWiz" to do what I need?

Just follow the steps in the wiki (exactly as you see them). I'll try to see if I can go back and check on the whole procedure (I have a Wallaby myself, which I haven't used since 2005, but I saved it from becoming a paperweight after a bad flash).
Try to see if you can flash the original rom with the XP machine. If you can't, then you may want to try the SD flash method... that's the one that saved mine.
Report back to see if it worked.

Wow, I can't find an XP machine anywhere???
curious to see if this is possible I spent like 8hrs trying to get mango on it, came to find the att original rom an reflash and was able to unlock my phone again and now it has nodo and unlocked so I am happy but want to try the mango out and have it unlocked to sideload as well.

i did update to mango and i am stock there, i dont now how to return back to NoDo, plus my device. got locked i cant install any .xap anymore, does any one know how to return back to NoDo.... please provide the steps..

You need Zune beta from here, to restore back.
If you didn't make a backup before updating to mango, you have to flash with either UCJK2 or UXJL2 (recommended), from here. They're both back to version 7004 so after you flash, you will have to update to NoDo.
I'm currently doing it as I type.

Long story short. To make it easy :
1. Flash AT&T 7004 ROM
2. Unlock & Prevent Relock
3. Open Diagnose Mode ##634#
4. Install New_SMS_Unlock.xap
5. Install Samsung Root Tools from Heathcliff
6. Use the Samsung Tools to create provxml folder in root directory
7. Find unlock.xml from Applications folder and copy it to provxml folder (details on how to do this can be found on the the thread above)
8. Upgrade to NoDo (7390) Don't Unbrand !!! No need to go to 7392, and you won't get update for Diagnose if you unbrand.
9. In 7390, Uninstall your Diagnose app.
10. ##634# again, and your diagnose app will be updated.
11. After this make sure you can read the unlock.xml using *#9908# from Diagnose. If you can see your unlock.xml then you're good to go, if not then you must be missing something.
12. Flash to 7661
13. Open *#9908# from Diagnose.
14. Choose Unlock and press Save.
15. Your 7661 Focus should be unlocked by now.

how do i get mango update now. I didnt think it was out yet. I have mine unlocked and unbranded. but currently set to att-us. What is the easy way to get mango.

Mango BETA B2 is available, not official. I wouldnt expect to see the official from AT&T for at least 3-6 months

Step 14 can be misleading.
I know that when I did it following those same directions I never got any message that said it was finished or anything, just like you it said "loading." I just closed out and was unlocked afterwords.

Anybody knows how to maintain unlock from 7712 to 7720 ... I reached 7712 and have managed to keep it unlocked ... want to know how hard is it from here to reach 7720 and maintain unlock ... dont have backups, so if I screw up will have to go back to 7004 and start over again

Try this. It worked for me on my v1.3 Focus. Still unlocked.
Btw, it says not working on Focus, but it did on mine.
Edit: Actually, if you're already on 7712, I'm guessing this won't work. Probably worth starting over for, though - especially, since you need a backup, as well.

Afterward, i follow the thread below. works like a charm. I had a nodo update and can't seem to remember if you can unlock or not. So i went and restore from the above thread. Total time it took me was about 1.5 hours. Hope that help.

I actually did the last step from 7712 to 7720 ... then went to GPRS settings, saved unlock.xml, saved and rebooted ... Its unlocked ... but I am syncing with zune in airplane mode cos I have a feeling it might get locked again ...
Did not notice anything new while shifting from 7712 to RTM ... Just hope to get better battery ...

This does not work ***VERIFIED***.
This zune version also gives 801812EO Error on Zune Restore attempt.
Backup is a pipedream. The only way back is from 7004 and through the hoops if you do it right.
No need for beta Zune
Since the official update of mango you no longer need the beta version of zune. Do all the same instructions and your phone will have mango (non-beta) and be unlocked
What if I roll back my windows phone to version earlier than 7700? Would i then be avaliable to developer unlock - root my windows phone? i have seen the guide that uses chevron wp7 unlocking tool with chevron certificate installed on windows phone and later you just need to run chevronwp7.exe application on computer... Now, with build 8107 i cant, i tried it but i get error message about something phone not being connected to zune, or device is in lock-screen, but its not true... I have also seen forums on this topic, and other htc 7 trophy users said that going back to older version and installing chevron unlocked their phone and with an sideload app they managed to remain it unlocked even though they later updated to latest version of mango... Sorry for my grammar, english is not my native language

When the chevron.exe opens and i tick the 2 check boxes and click the unlock button suddenly a text box pop saying "Please make sure you are connected via USB, Please make sure Zune is running" I've tried many procedures on how to unlock this phone. BTW i've search about this but i cant find any answer.. i need this very much..

you cant use chevron unlock... this is tooo old unlocker for first generation WP7 devices when Lumia phones not exists....
only way for unlock is if device have unlocked bootloader and flash custom ROM...
unfortunately for you, only Lumia 710, 800 and 900 can have unlocked bootloader....
P.S.
also is possible to unlock with official Micosoft developer unlock (free for students accounts and pay for developers)

What breaks the rules is begging. Please don't....It isn't helpful for others nor yourself, WP7 has a much smaller number of users these days, and not everyone visits here.
The chevron unlock method has long been shutdown. You can get an official Developer Unlock there days for $20 USD. Its quite inexpensive nowadays.
Anyways, what do you need Chevron for?

I have tired almost every single way you could find on google search to get my Lumia 1020 to upgrade from windows phone 8.1 to 10, I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted the device, edited the device info to fool the system into upgrading, nothing worked, not even a slight movement forward, I'm not sure if I am doing anything wrong I believe I am not, however if someone have already done this upgrade can't they simply create a custom rom from it using WPinternals? if yes can someone please do that for the sake of just helping me .
if you guys have any ideas or suggestion or details that I might have messed please do inform me, I am really disparate here!!

Never mind everyone I have got it figured out after days, I simply wasn't patient enough to wait for the update to show up.

i have unlocked bootloader, gained root access. changed to lumia 950 Xl. but my mobile is not recieving any update by insider. it says connection problem. i have changed date and time and region to USA. but same probelm. now what can i do? is there any way that i can flash something to update? please let me know. and thanks for your reply.
