hey guys....a nice little noob here.
So ive recently began reading up on upgrading my wizard to a nice wm6 rom. im interested in a stable touch rom, ive narrowed it down to a couple (mostly TNT, OCTAIVOI and NBD). ive read a couple of posts mentioning a specific rom using a specific radio, to insure stablitity. I want the bling in my phone but with most stability i can get. So overall this confused me a little bit. i ran a search and couldnt find anything.
the question is: im assuming when you flash a rom, theres a radio included in it. but when people use a specific radio, how is that done. Do they flash the radio after the rom or vice versa?
heres an example. i looked at the TNT.1933, it is mentioned that 2.19.11 UK is the most stable. is that radio included in the rom or is it a recommendation? if its not included how do you flash it?
Thanks for all the help !!

Hello welcome to the forums. Not all roms have a radio included. if you see in a rom thread that is "G4 safe" that means that it is only the OS. You can flash the radio whenever you want. i would suggest using the 2.19 radio. or the newest one 2.71 i think it is. i am currently running it with no problems.
reffering to what rom to put, i say try all of them until you stop at one that you like.
BUT FIRST, MAKE SURE YOUR DEVICE IS CID UNLOCKED! otherwise, you won't be able to flash anything onto it.
Hope that helped.
Thank you so much for the advice TH. Very kind of you.
I was looking for an answer to that on the forum, but all i found was the actual radios to download. I dont really mind experimenting with my phone, and i plan on doing exactly what u recommended by trying them all out. I also have a prophet which i feel like updating because i dont have a keyboard on it, so it makes more sense to try a touch rom on it.
I unlocked my wizard, its a G3 it was very easy, so no issues there.
so I would flash a rom i like, and then flash the radio? if i flash another rom, do i lose the radio or does it stay on the phone?
thanks again

or you can try radio 2.40.11 (this is the radio from the official rom OS 5.2.318 build 15342 of MS):
Code:
ftp://[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/faria-roms/radio2.40.11.zip

Well that's sorta a tough question. Technically no. I think you mean if you flash for example TNT's ROM then you flash NBD's ROM. Then no, your radio would remain unchanged.
BUT... You should flash back to a stock ROM in between, and that WILL wipe your radio. What I do is flash to stock 8125 Cingular ROM from HTC's website. Then I flash the 3.08 IPL/SPL (only do this for G3 phones!!). Then I flash the OS ROM such as TNT or something. The last step is flashing a radio. I too have been using 2.71 lately. Seems to work well. My issues are more OS related lately as I have been learning to cook and always have one issue or another on my phone
cool. i'll look for 2.71, i have 2.19 right now.
i see ure using fido. Glad to see other canadians having fun with these.
im kind of annoyed though, just when i make up my mind on the rom i want, i cant find it. The NBD ftp seems to be down. my next step was the tnt i guess, any thoughts?
i basically want a nice rom, with touch and a decent amount of stability, of course with touch ive read that stability is usually an issue, but im sure there has to be one more stable then the other.

Have you been trying any of the different radios? I'm in the same boat as you - Fido user (Toronto), wondering which radio version would work best. If there are any other Fido Wizard users out here, would love to hear some feed-back!
When trying different radios, how do you evaluate which is the best? What are the key things to look for?
3.08
where can i find ipl/spl 3.08?

im running the tmobile 2.26 radio, i never flashed a different one after flashing nbd 8.3. I just flashed ipl/spl 3.08. So far everything is very smooth. no errors, missed called, sms errors for 3 straight days. and battery is very good as well.
Only issue i have with nbd is the fact that now everytime i send out an sms i get an sms in return saying the message was sent. im actually browsing the pages right now looking for a fix to that.
anyone have a solution?
helloooooooo?
where do i find IPL/SPL 3.08????????????

Markdam - Was this thread called "Secret Location of IPL/SPL 3.08"?
Two posts within 24 hours - talk about wanting instant gratification!
Yesterday evening, I flashed my Radio to 2.69.11
Reception seems possibly worse, but hard to gauge if this is due to the new radio, or the inconsistent signal strength that I seem to get in my bedroom. I'm also in the process of trying out various new apps, and it seems that something that I installed today is slurping my battery faster than before....

I believe you have my problem too .... Get here
ok guys im just got this device and i'm coming from the G2X and im confuse with every rom thread talked about radios. (yes i searched)
idk if you guys know but we dont use radios on the g2x!
and i dont really wanna brick my phone. ok i have the RevolutionHD 3.6.2 beats
and i have the radio that they talked about
right now im flashing roms to see witch one i really like but do i have to flash radios everytime i flash a rom?
and what the stock one?
thank you in advance
It's usually a good idea to not change Radio Firmware unless you have problems.
That said I don't understand the suggestion by for example ARHD to update to a specific radio version, but you'll definitely not need to change Radio Firmware for every new ROM. Once you have the latest and greatest you'll not need to change it anymore. (At least if you don't have problems)
great thanks for the quick reply. do you know witch one is the lates radio?
I just did the downgrade from 2.00 to 0.98 and S-off
Now I have to flash a new rom (I would try ics)
I have to update the radio?
Now is the old version(20.28b.30.0805U_38.03.02.11)
if I flash it, should I first flash the rom or radio?
which can I use, from ota or from ruu?
sorry for english

No, you don't need a new radio for ICS - this is not samsung. As a general rule, don't play with the radio unless absolutely necessary.
It's risky business, and the benefit is not worth the potential hazard.
Cheers
EDIT : As a general piece of friendly advice, I would suggest you flash stable GB ROMs and play around for a bit before jumping into the world of beta ICS ROMs. Get a feel of the stable stuff before you spoil your flashing experience with random reboots and system freezes at the onset.

which country do you llve?...and on which network?
I'd recommend the radio that I'm on (see my signature)
But to back up what has just been said, don't bother changing radios unless you experience issues.
thanks for advice
p.s.: I'm from Italy, H3G network

The reason why I asked is so that you can get a local user from the same location hopefully on the same network to recommend you a radio rather than someone on the other side of the planet

i would also higly recommend flashing the 2.00.2002 ENG HBOOT here.
it helps with the post sense 3.0 ROMS as they need the new partition table created by this HBOOT

If he's already s-off on hboot 0.98.xxxxx, won't flashing the eng hboot 2.00.2002 return the device to *locked*?

I disagree I'd flash the ENG 98.2 hboot instead.....as that works fine....unless you intend to flash a stock sense 3.0 rom all of the customs work on either.
I know that I'm on the later one, but I can't be bothered to downgrade

Hello as it happens I believe that I've already come across your question and commented on it.
You shouldn't really go off-topic in someone elses thread like you just did, you could always use PM to identify your thread to me, or wait until your thread is answered.
I'm currently using a Rogers HOX and have tried searching through this thread in regards to whether flashing any radio would affect LTE capabilities? Or would all radios work with LTE?
Also, if I am running JB, why do I need to avoid the radios with RIL files? *trying to understand*
For context:
I have never flashed a radio (never had a need to) but I would like to flash HTC O2 2.29 (0.19as.32.09.20_3_10.107.32.25): http://d-h.st/AKZ as a lot of other Rogers HOX users seem to have a huge performance and reliability boost with that radio.
Thanks in advance.

For your first question, all the evita radios will work with LTE, so yes you will be fine. Different radios give different performance in different areas. Try out a few and find out which one works best for you.

Rogers is at&t HTC one xl. You are in the wrong forum. This is for the international quad-core HTC one X

I ended up switching to cyanogen mod but my reception is really low, and the GPS didn't seem to be working. Can I install any radio or are there specific radios only for this ROGERS phone. Sorry i didn't want to create another thread.

There are prerequisites in terms of firmware and recovery for flashing the current aosp ROMs. Please post your bootloader details.
You can use any Evita radio on your phone, it doesn't have to be a Rogers radio. Radio performance can vary wildly from user to user as it depends on carrier, exact geographical location, environmental disturbances, among other factors. Someone in the same suburb (even street) as you can have a very different experience on the exact same radio. What I'm saying is you need to test for yourself. You don't need to stick to your carrier's radios, you should test a variety of radios and see what works best for you.
