What's a good backup phone to trade for my G2? - Thunderbolt General

I'm new to verizon just came from TMO where I had a G2. Now that I have verizon and obviously have a Tbolt. I wanna trade my G2 for another verizon phone. What should I trade my G2 for? I don't know what device to look into.

If you want to experiment with the second phone, I'd suggest a dinc, even though it will be significantly less powerful than a G2

I was actually thinking about getting one. I found an Iphone4 today on CL for $320. It had already been sold. Then I started thinking that Verizon would probably change my date plan if I got an Iphone4 under my current account.

Why not just sell the G2 then hold on to the money to buy a replacement phone when you need to? Phones will devalue over time pretty fast and become obsolete, money holds value significantly better. That way by the time you possibly break your Thunderbolt if you do break it, you can probably just buy another one as a backup because it will be considerably cheaper then.

[Q] If I can get this off-contract for 200, should I?

I've never had an Android phone, but something tells me the Captivate won't be the phone to have for 2 years.
But is it worth getting for 200 dollars? To mess around with and experiment with? I mean I'd use it as my main phone and all, but it's gotten such bad press, I'm not sure what to think of it. Not to mention the guy I am buying it from is switching to Sprint or Verizon because of a lack of HTC Android Phones on ATT.
So, should I go for it? It is a brand new Galaxy S, or a refurbished one... I don't know actually. It is in a box that was sent to him to replace his bricked Galaxy S from when he canceled an update.
And, is the GPS really that bad? Considering my Touch Pro's GPS is horrible, I don't expect much!
Off contract? Yes.
If I could switch to Verizon, Sprint, or T-Mobile, I'd be goner than gone.
Go for it. It's a good deal.

Any chance you will share where you can get this phone for $200 off contract. I paid that for min on contract. I would love to get one for my wife but she has another year before she is eligible for an upgrade.
If you go to at&t's site, login and try to buy this phone without a contract they will charge you over $400.
hehe. i'm just gonna pay the breach of contract and switch to sprint for the evo or the epic. not sure wich, but i'm tossing mine up on craigs list. oh, and overstock.com is advertising them for .01 with new contract...
Paid $120 for mine after I called AT&T and told them that my crenelation is less than $100 or they can sell me the new phone for $120. The never thought twice and overnighted the phone to me for the $120.
I paid 230 for mine the first week it came out. I eventually went to best buy and got 80 bucks from them when they put it on sale
I paid $200 for mine. Totally worth it.
Coming from an x10 user, this phone is really good. Of course there is better, there always is hurting the price that you're getting is really good too.

I would give a resounding "heck yeah". Get it. If you don't like it, you will most likely be able to sell for a profit.

Is LG the old Samsung?

Name in the title says it all. Will anyone ever buy another LG phone? After the Behold II debacle, allot of people swore they would never buy Samsung again.

And yet they did and I'm going so far as to predict Samsung will topple part of Apple's stranglehold on the smarthphone and tablet market.

Absolutely not. This will definitely be the last. The way they put a strangle hold on the carrier with this phone is ridiculous. They should stop making phones all together.

almost everything i own is lg i guarantee as i replace it wont be.
and ill play around with the g2x until a good phone comes out on verizon my update is good in august there and it looks like i can keep unlimited data, glad i didnt cancel it. i should be able to sell the g2x to pay off the etf on tmobile. and only loss will be the differnce between g2x sale and 400 - 200etf 200 phone.
wasnt expecting to stay with tmobile more than a year since i know the merger is already bought and paid for with the fcc. but tmobile has seriously disapointed me, they are nothing now like everything i have read and the people i talked to. must already be ATTMobile.

I will be headed for Verizon as soon as the ATT merger goes through but right now there is no point since in my area T-Mobile has the fastest data speeds by a long shot and the cheapest pricing as I am on a loyalty plan. That said, it is hit or miss with T-Mobile but if I don't get my way with customer service, I just keep calling back. I mean, I really can't think of any other provider that would have gave me a free Sensation and let me keep my G2X while still remaining contract free. Can you?

You'd think that after two different manufacturers both produce craptastic phones for the same carrier then the blame should really be leaning towards T-Mobile's allowance of said phones into their line-up..?
Previous Samsung Vibrant user here and still the same T-Mo customer service bullsh*t with the G2x.

@jrwingate6
The Vibrant gave me GPS issues constantly... I guess this was a bigger issue for me since I was travelling a lot at the time. The GPS issues were widespread and poorly handled by Samsung in my opinion, also didn't like how they dropped the Vibrant and replaced it with a clone with a FFC under the disguise of Galaxy S 4G.
The final straw was once I started to notice my notification bar clock burning into the screen (along with some of the constantly displayed icons). I bailed before the problems got worse and argued with T-Mo till they at least gave me a free upgrade.

I'll never say "I'll never buy from "X" place" again. You aren't going to make a liar out of me. Samsung botched the vibrant (and a few others) and I along with nearly everyone else is drooling over the gs2. With this many different devices with different hardware and software variants, some are bound to be lemons. What I'd really wish t-mobile(and other carriers) would do is offer to reset phone upgrades for people with specific devices that have well known and documented issues. My old vibrant, for instance... everytime I call to complain about the gps issue, EVERY csr tells me this is a known issue and sends me a replacement. I've swapped it out 6 times in 9 months and even asked for a different phone of equal value and been shot down, as recent as 2 weeks ago. I don't want a free phone, I just want to be able to spend ANOTHER $200 on a "high-end" phone that works.

I started this thread and never once did I say I wouldn't buy another LG. When the behold II debacle hit, I never said I wouldn't buy a Samsung. This thread was simply starting the obvious. LG is now screwing its customers over just like Samsung used to. But yea. I don't believe for one second half these people will never buy LG again because as soon as the Nexus 3 hits, there is going to be a mass exodus of LG users. You also see how far boycotting samsung got you. No where. They now make some of the best devices out and have no problem selling them.

[Q] I have a Sprint NExus S with a bad ESN. What can...

I do with it? I tried for days to get a good deal on a Sprint Nexus and inadvertantly bought one that had a bad ESN. I know it was a stupid thing to do and I've learned my lesson. I suppose I'll put it on EBay and try to unload it. I've read that these phones can b used on Cricket but what other options are there? Are there other carriers that can use this phone? Can the average Joe flash these phones to alternate carriers or do they need to be sent to hecking geniuses that charge a fee to do it?
Anyone want to take it off my hands?
That sucks. I believe it may be flashable on metro pcs as well.

That really does suck, next time meet at a Sprint store.. you'll never get burned that way. So how much are you wanting for the phone?

I paid $160 for it. I'd like to try to get my money back. The phone literally is in mint condition. I can't find a single scratch or scuff anywhere on it. It came with a black silicon case. I'm going to register and post it for sale over on the cricket forums. I was reading and it seems like it's a favorite for cricket users.
This really can't be fixed? I hears you can
I have seen them with bad esn sell for 200+ on ebay

[Q] Best way to go from Epic 4G -> Nexus S?

I'm trying to see if I can ditch my Epic 4G and sidegrade to a Nexus S 4G with spending as little money as possible.
Looks like the prices for new Nexus S is around 220ish, with used Epics going from $130 and up. Wondering if I should just buy a new/used Nexus S, add it to my plan, deactivate the Epic 4G then sell it (it's in pristine condition, had it since launch).
I also have a $75 upgrade available (knowing the Premier program is changing soon) and Sprint is offering $85 for a trade in of the Epic 4G as well.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to do?
That's an upgrade not a sidegrade!!! You could get lucky and find a person willing to trade. Otherwise I would sell it on eBay or CL.

I went from the EPIC to the nexus s about 2 weeks ago and I will never look back. I had called sprint and asked them for an early upgrade cause I was so tired of that peice of **** epic. They would not give me a full upgrade yet and I told them I want to exchange my phone for a different one then cause I had so many problems with the epic. I went through a couple different supervisors and finally they said ok and I could choose between the evo and the transform and the nexus! U already know what I chose...

I've always gotten phones straight from Sprint with the two year agreement and $150 rebate.
I was checking on Best Buy/Wirefly and right now they have the Nexus S for 0$ with contract extension. How does that work?
that contract extension only works if your eligible for your $150 upgrade cause they want you to sign up for another 2 years. Trust me there is no way around this. If you want a new phone like the SGS2 or the new nexus prime coming up and you dont have a full upgrade yet just add another line to your acount and the you get the phone at the contract price. After you do that just put the line you just opened on hold and it will cost you only $10 a month.
i traded my epic for an evo a couple months ago, and today i'm trading a evo for a nexus s 4g. just keep tabs on your area's craigslist. people are always looking to trade their phone for something different.

The only way to reset an upgrade is to buy a subsidized phone through your carrier or an authorized retailer.

I don't believe so. I don't think AT&T has EVER carried a nexus device? When the Galaxy Nexus hit, only T-Mobile/Sprint/Verizon where the only ones to carry it.
Why not get it from Google?
What does it matter? Just order from google. I sure wouldn't want AT&T "my commute", AT&T connect and so on. /cringe
Best buy is supposed to have them I think at some point.
Last I heard Best Buy currently had them but I'm not sure how well stocked they are and there charging quite a bit more

All for the best. If I'm getting a Nexus why would I let AT&T sink their teeth into it and stick me with all their bloatware.
like everybody said, ATT probably won't carry it. even if they do, i'm sure they'd mark it up like everyone did.
Swappa is your best friend.
You don't want AT&T to sell any Nexus devices. Just look at the S4 forum for your reason. Same reason why I'm never buying a phone from them again.

They did sell the Nexus S a number of years ago.
I use the Nexus 5 on AT&T, works great, great HSPA and LTE speeds.
It would be a lot cheaper to buy the phone outright and switch to att's aio wireless product. That's what I did. $55/mo, no contract, no paying for their overpriced phones. I can buy a brand new phone every year, still come out ahead, and sell my old one. No real decision to make.
