When you are on a home screen and long press on a widget, you now see more options than before including shortcuts to the Application info and Market pages for the app. You can also quickly set up custom shortcuts using ADW’s menus rather than the standard Android process.
New app drawer functions on long press:
These new app drawer functions are probably the most impressive. You can now long press on apps from within the drawer to see a variety of options, giving you more control over the look and feel. You can also add folders directly in, plus a bunch of other shortcuts. After playing with the new app drawer for 30 seconds, you see how amazing these new tweaks will be once this thing gets fine-tuned and is ready for release.

wow I am surprised this is thread isn't getting attention. with so many ADW users I'm surprised I had to stumble upon the beta 2 version. I have been looking forward to a skinnable app drawer launcher for sooooo long and I love ADW.
many people like Adw but as a launcher it does not have anything special. Lets say similar to Go launcher.
Adw has only cosmetic things. None of them are usefull very much.

I disagree with that statement..
second Hidden dock
adjustable column rows
drag and drop apps to the dockbar
probably more that i can't think of on the top of my head..
and to whoever said something about the dockbar background.. if you purchase ADW Ex it offers that feature to easily switch out the dockbar bg :x
Go Launcher is good don't get me wrong, (currently using it) just that only reason I'm not on ADW is cause my theme just works too well to not have the ability to have a looping theme.
with Go launcher:
* you can kill applications
* you can hide icons
* you can uninstall
* you can create folders
* it has built-in task manager
* it has built-in recent
from straight app-drawer.
Adw has none of these. But it has many dock backgrounds, themes, fancy colors...etc.
You decide?

Finally I found replacement for stock GB launcher. Looks like it's based on GB launcher but with additional features . Can't wait for new versions

With froyo .. you don't need to KILL any applications..
you can hide icons in ADW by creating categories.. and you don't need to go to a menu to make them show when you "hide" them..
you can uninstall apps from adw by holding them to the trashcan..
you can't have folders in the app drawer in adw but like i said before.. categories..
You can always access recent apps by holding the home button.. which I have always done.
As I've said.. Go Launcher is a GREAT launcher.. but don't cast out ADW that easily..

Uninstallig apps works the same way in go launcher, furthermore, you can also uninstall them directly in the drawer.
Accessing recent apps pressing the home button works as well, however, there also is a category for that in the drawer.
Don't get me wrong - I love adw and have been using it for month, but go launcher is really awesome as well.
Lets see what adw launcher 2 will be capable of.

I use it this way: the regular dock only has one button which opens the app drawer.
When I swipe my finger up the screen, the hidden dock appears containing all the docks apps.
I like that because it prevents me from accidently starting apps.

I just downloaded ADW yesterday (no, not the one attached here ... got it from the market).
Can someone tell me how the hidden dock is supposed to work? I have checked it, but don't know how to call/invoke it.
Thanks
You choose open/close dock as swipe up action and when the dock is closed you drop apps on the bottom part of the screen.
Hope that helps.

Why are you here if you dislike ADW? LOL. This thread is about ADW beta and you can start your own hate thread somewhere else.
That aside, I've just tried the beta and really looking forward to the new functions in ADW EX.

Hello, just made an app that allow users to toggle your favourite Home.
I just create a shortcut to the Home you want., just have a look at this Video, maybe that will be easier to understand:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMpONctP2F8
I found that Home switcher need such a feature, I contacted the dev, but doesn't want to work on something like that, so I did it myself!
Remarks:
* Cyrket description here
* Use the longpress on homescreen and create a shurtcut? If you launch the main app, the shortcuts will be created on ALL your Home! so you will need to delete some ;-)
Just tell me if you find that usefull or not!

1.1: Now use the longpress on homescreen to add a shortcut. Will not be repeated on every Launcher like the main app.
1.01: major bug corrected with HTC Sense
1.0: First release
thanks for the awesome work
it does pretty much what I expect it to do
but i wondered is there any easy way to change the defaults as well?
I will work on that, but not this week, I am really busy. Maybe next week.
While waiting, you can use HomeSwitcher in the Android Market.

You can imagine having all your widget/apps for work on ADW, all you need for fun on LiveHomewith cool 3D transitions, all stuff for travel on LauncherPro..
Or just want to have a look at your Sense or Motoblur widget sometime because you miss them.
Or simply because you cannot make a choice between all them and want to try...
I don't know..
Some of my friends asked for this application and I made it for them. maybe some people here have the same needs... I don't earn money when you download it, I just want to share...

I think it's a great idea downloading now. I'll try and come back with feedback. Now off to work.
And I forgot 2 essential reasons.. lol
* useless so you must have it! I don't know how to say that in English, but we have a french sentence that say("inutile donc indispensable!")
* showing all the iPhone users that Android is so customizable and that you can go to one configuration to a totally different one in one click!!
The only problem I found is that we cannot have different wallpapers on every launcher! That would be amazing.

What I thought this was doing was "syncing" the multiple launcher programs.. ie: No setting up each individual one.
Just made an update.
I am very excited for some features, because I am making something like the Sense Desktop.
This allow you to create different Homescreens with different wallpapers and icons.
Please send me feedback!
What's New?
You can now rename the Shortcut. ( and also changing icon in future donate version)
You can now change wallpapers for each Home
I hope this feature will allow people to create Theme like Sense ( one for work, for games, etc...
Possibility to make it the default home when you use a shortcut.
Unfortunately this will break the behavior of the Home button in home ( Expose on LauncherPro or getting back to default homescreen)
Hope you will love it.
wow i've been looking for an app like this.. i seriously can't choose between them... here's a suggestion.. that will add a new level of convenience....
can you can create a shortcut (for example: Holding Vol Up and Pressing Home Button) to bring up Expose (similar to Launcher Pro's)... to change homescreen.... that'll be amazing....sorta like the "Panels" with xperia...
This app is awesome!!!!!
If anyone doesn't see the benefit this app brings to the table
then they don't need it!

I cannot choose easy home as default.
I have to remake an icon from the app drawer and it lasts for about 30sec before force closing.
I also cannot get a wallpaper to stick when creating a complex shortcut following the directions to long press on the home screen...

i been scrolling in the android market and came across this application which looks like the port of the old launcher i did a while back,
(this version has bugs on them and doesnt work very well)
i want to first say that it took me a time to make this launcher to work, LG is the owner of this launcher, but still give credit to those who work and put time on this, damn.

I like it however the calendar widget does not seem to work. Is it suppose to pull the events from the sense calendar or go to it when you click a date? As of right now when I click on a date in the calendar widget it does nothing. How did you get the sense clock to work, or is it something diff (forgot the name of the other one lol).

I'm currently using ADW launcher (the free version) and i'm really happy with it. However, there are a couple things i'd like it to do that it can't. I'm looking for opinions and suggestions before i go get/buy another.
Requirements:
-make dock look like stock froyo/gingerbread
-create custom shortcuts
-ability to use icon packs
-add whatever apps/custom shortcuts you like to the dock
-add/remove home screens
-have app drawer as vertical list, not horizontal pages
-some way to hide apps from the main list
-modify app shortcuts in app list (change icon and name)
know of anythign that can do all this? thanks in advance guys.
There are several free launchers,
I personally use ADW launcher ex (not free) but if you want a free launcher with these specifications launcherpro is a very good choice
Check launcher pro. Not sure where the differences really stand between free and Plus, apart from Widgets. You can have scrollable docks with custom shortcuts / icons, hide apps from drawer, vertical scroll (and 4D app drawer like ADWEX) offers and icon support. You can't easily change icons with LPP like you can with ADW, but you can use another app (like Desktop Visualizer) for that. It also has removable / addable(?) Homescreen counts as well. Scrollable Widgets are a bonus, like the Twitter one.
Many options out there though. Not sure about them all.

thanks guys, i'll try them out and my philosophy is free first. you'll usually be able to find what you want online with little to no money

I've seen the one called SPB 3D and it's very cool. The problem is that it does cost $15 beans.

Hopefully someone will correct me if wrong. I'm just seeing your question now and after looking I don't see an option. I was a long running ADW advocate and have only been on LPP for a couple weeks. Truth be told I never looked as I've always like the black BG. Not sure if it is themeable like the Widgets as I haven't looked into it.

Personally, I'd go with ADW EX. For an app drawer I use Alt Drawer. You can change the background, icons, app name, hide apps, etc. Just remove the app drawer shortcut and replace it with Alt Drawer. The free version of LauncherPro cannot resize widgets, so that's lame. You have to edit the icons as you're applying them, if you want to change the icon later you can't just long-press like in ADW, you have to add it again. I thought LauncherPro was kind of mundane - I prefer ADW's hidden dock to LauncherPro's scrolling one. Two separate custom dock backgrounds, yay! Or even better - you can remove the main dock altogether and use only the hidden dock. Go Launcher felt clunky to me, and I absolutely hated the app drawer.
Whichever you choose is personal preference. Just please don't pirate any apps. The developers work hard to give you really awesome apps, the least you can do is give them a couple bucks.

That is very true. There are stand alone, customizable drawers as well. The LPP handling of icon changing irks me to no end. I hate using a separate app if I don't have to. I love ADWEX but it was just tweaking out on me and I decided to check out LPP. And yes, along with the widgets, you cannot change widget sizes by default.
The hidden ADW dock wad 'teh sex' too, as I relied on swipe gestures. This is one, of the many things, I've missed from ADW. The handling of the icon packs (apart from just the simple changing of the icons) is another bonus for ADW.
It all depends. The Twitter widget and scrollable dock were jazzy enough to keep me going. I'm sure ill be back, until the rewrite, at least, for LPP. Fede does great work and his launcher runs a helluva lot smoother on my device than Ander's. I got mad redraws that could not be remedied and overall lag that I haven't seen on LPP. Worth noting some have seen as much on LPP. Device specific, sure. That and the Uber Music release have me temporarily pumped.

I would really go for Go Launcher. It does all you want, has pretty good theme support, has a recent applications drawer and a drawer with running apps where you can close them. It doesn't reduce battery duration and it doesn't slow down your phone.
I've tried out a few of these launches, nothing has beaten ADW yet. I'll look into AltDrawer tho, thanks.
@plainjane - i don't pirate apps

HTC Explorer,android 2.3.5
The greatest launcher, without any doubts ! thanks!
I'm using Go Launcher, but I'm sticking to 2.60 since that's the last one that returns to your home screen when you exit an app. I really don't like the way the newer versions return to the app drawer instead. Why this change wasn't made optional, I really don't understand

I think that's a tipical return, if you open an app from app drawer, when you press the back key to exit, it back from where the application was opened, instead of press back key, just press home key .

The behaviour used to be different and I preferred it that way. I usually want to actually exit an app, rather than leave it running in the background. It means that next time I start the app, it starts at its 'start page' rather than where I last left it running.
I'm not trying to say everyone should do it my way (although I'm not the only one who has complained about the change) - I am surprised it wasn't made an option. This is perhaps the most customisable launcher out there. I can choose from a million different transitions, separately for vertical app drawer, horizontal app drawer and home screens; I can choose what kind of home screen indicators I have, and whether they should fade out; I can configure 2 different actions for each dock icon, and choose a different icon for each. So it's really surprising that this change was made without providing the option for the old behaviour.
why is the title 'FINAL'? according to the website, theres another version coming.
My favorite launcher.
However, the sphere and cilinder transition effect for the homescreen(not the appdrawer) is very laggy on my galaxy s2 while it is smooth on the older galaxy s. Howcome?
And sometimes the appdrawer icon on the dock doesn't response.
How are the apps sorted in folders? They seem almost completely random to me. I thought it was order that you add them but I add new apps to the folder and they wind up in the middle of the folder.
It would be nice if they could be sorted in alphabetical order.
i am using adw , who can tells what differences between them?

Cause pressing the back key one last time is such a hard challenge
Well those of you who know adw launcher ex, know that there is a main dock and another dock. The other dock doesnt allow me to add apps onto the screen of my kindle fire. So does anyone know how i can make it so its just the main dock only? Also what are some good launchers out there?

Like this menu/more/adwsettings/ui settings/ then if i remember i believe there is a hidden dock settings there should be a setting to disable it.
I use Regina 3d launcher which looks spectacular on the kindle
I was using GO Launcher EX on the stock ROM and then ADW when I flashed CM7 but now I'm back to GO with black glass, a few select go widgets, the transparent widgets theme, and bigrubberpepper's volume control. I like how everything integrates, it seems a lot more polished.

What do you use for the status bar replacement? I'm on MoDaCo GR6 w/GO and am trying to replace the status/bottom bar and also stop it from changing wallpapers from my stock theme one when it goes into sleep/lock mode.

That should help with the changing lockscreen. I did it on the fire itself without using adb though, just use your root explorer app, navigate to /data/data/com.android.settings/files/wallpaper, and disable write access. Anytime you want to change the wallpaper, though, you have to enable write access, change it, then disable.
If anyone knows a better way, feel free to chime in

Slick wallpaper!
For some reason Go launcher ex is super smooth on my Archos 70 but choppy on my Kindle Fire. I switched my KF to ADW and it's smooth as melted butter.

That is Go's Google Search Widget with the transparency widget theme installed.
I, too, love Go's transparent widgets. The scrolling calendar is great.
Thanks Bleeds!

Anyone know how to get that home dock from above?
Edit: looks like i figured it out. Cleared adw settings and reinstalled. Sorry
Has anyone been able to use SPB launcher and keep it as their default. I'm running CM7 and am able to install it and run it fine but it doesn't show up in my options when I clear defaults and press the home key. Any ideas? Thanks

I've recently been running Zeam on CM7. I like the minimalism and found it to be really zippy. No issues so far.
Is the Go Launcher EX smooth on the KF? I am gonna flash CM7 soon and wanted to integrate a launcher into the rom I will flash. Also, I used in on the stock, but sometimes the icon labels were cutoff/the Go Launcher EX menu was being clipped, I guess due to the bottom bar on the KF, is anyone else getting these problems?

I was having the same issues with the icons being cut off on the bottom. When I was using Go Launcher it seemed choppy in my opinion. I switched to ADW Ex and it is super smooth and runs really fast on my Kindle.

Indeed. Plus, you can stack the dock with unlimited app icons negating the need to fiddle with folders or the default app drawer, which is kinda lacking IMO. I put my 20 or so most used apps in the dock and run altdrawer as the app drawer since it is more configurable. No more delays waiting for the home screen to re-draw when closing apps.
