Banner in notification bar. - Samsung Mesmerize

Is there any way that you could change the U.S. Cellular banner in the notification bar to what you want? Cause my buddy has an iPhone and he can change the att in his to whatever he wants and i was wondering if we could too.

hehe big help you are.
With iPhones that is actually just stored in a .plist file which is the equivalent of our .xml files. For them you can simply open the plist file with a file browser if you're jailbroken, and type whatever you want for that and literally any other text thing. (Even things like when you're deleting an app, you can make the popup ask you if you want to "get rid of this" and the buttons can say "hell yeah" or "oops" and every other text that you ever see on an iphone can be changed.)
With us, it isn't that simple. I don't think. I haven't looked inside our xmls enough, the filesystem is mildly confusing after being with iPhones for so long.

So it is possible then? Well someone should tell me what file to change so i can do that

For a second time, yes it is.
...I never said I knew off the top of my head how to do it, but it is possible.

If i wasn't already looking into it I would have told you to use google. since I've already found some resources, here you go;

I don't understand any of that...

You decompile framework-res.apk with apktool, open the XML folder - edit the ERI.xml (change whatever values you want), recompile and push to your phone, reboot and it will say what you want. It also changes the Network listed in about phone. (read through my porting guide for more detail)
EX. I made mine say Cyanogen

How do you change the default dialer picture?

I loaded the following dialer "DarchVader_Dialer_DamagedTrev.zip" and it has a goofy picture of Homer as the default pic. Does someone else have another "black dialer" or stock dialer or way to simply change the default picutre?
Thanks!
Click on the theme in my signature and scroll down to the bottom of the first post. There are a couple of black dialers to.choose from. Always nandroid first. Let me know if that works for you.
Actually, darchvader might be based on a legend Rom...(im not sure)....if it is than my zips wouldn't work. Either way, nandroid.

Actually it is. I made it for Legend, and Treve ported the dialer for sprint based Roms without changing the picture. If you want to get rid of Homer I posted a phone.apk, but that got erased with the rest of the theme thread. Or you can replace him yourself. The picture is in Phone.apk and its called phone_default_icon_png. You can change it to whatever you want as long as its in reasonable standards(meaning sizes).

Thanks for the assistance. Actually when it came to replacing it... I struggled to think of what I really wanted. I threw this together as a temp replacement. Piece of cake to do after your help.
Thanks!

Purely Out of Boredom - Twitverted (Uber-lame)

So, I was a little bored (too much time on my hands) and I hate the color scheme of twitter. Too baby-bluish and I've got a son on the way (just a couple months out), so I'm getting a little baby blued out. That said, I decided to waste some time inverting all of the .png's in the apk. Not the greatest of "mods", but I thought that if I found it amusing, somebody else might as well.
Oh, and I changed the Launcher icon to one from Dinik's HD2 collection here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591248&highlight=dinik
Notes:
1) I, nor XDA, am not responsible if this trashes your device.
2) The install bat places the file in /system/app, rather than /data/app. My main reason for doing this is strictly a personal preference, as I have been using Ninjamorph (thanks Stericson!) to customize all of my apps and it doesn't yet read from /data/app yet. . . so I've been placing everything into /system. lol
Instructions:
1) Extract the contents of the zip file (Winrar, Winzip, 7Zip, WinAce. . . does WinAce even exist anymore?)
2) Run Twitverted Install.bat
2a)The install bat file will automatically delete the twitter app, if you already had it installed, prior to installing this one.
3) If you don't like it, just run the removal bat and then reinstall Twitter via the market.
Nice, I'm not a big user of twitter but this looks pretty sweet, good job

Can someone tell me what notification bar icon is...

... the one that shows after an app has been installed from the market succesfully. I believe stock shows it as a down arrow on top of a couple of lines. Some ROMs show the Android Market symbol. Myn's latest twoPOINTtwo has this big, plain oversized checkmark and I'm trying to replace it... but I cannot find out which one this is for the life of me...
Thanks for your help.

I don't remember the exact name of it, but its in the Vending.apk not the framework. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

Ahh.... I see. Thanks for that - I should be able to find it now. I've been sifting through the framework and resources APKs forever!

}
, that is in framework-res.apk
Not the actual downloading arrow (or series of them) but the icon that remains there after the download has been completed and the app is installed.
I just found it, thanks to the above help. It's called "stat_sys_install_complete.png" and was located in "system\app\Vending\res\drawable-hdpi". I would never have looked there.
Related question - in cases like this, is there an easy way to just replace this single icon? Like maybe with root explorer or does it require a full out replacement in the APK package and complete reflash? I really don't feel like reflashing the entire ROM just for a few changes like this and would rather just make a mental note to repackage future ROMs.
Ninjamorph should do it

[q] theming question please help

Can somebody please tell me which part of styles.xml to change to make the black text into white? Already successfully changed the popup text into white for most popups except for this one regarding the importation of a VCF file.. I followed this theming tutorial btw http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1400580

This maybe not be in the styles xml. This could be in a few places. Check the colors folder and the layout folder. And depending on what it is calling it maybe calling it from the framework files and not the contacts apk.

Yes I know it is in the framework-res.apk.. And you're right it could also be somewhere in layout.. But I can't seem to figure out which xml. I already did the necessary editing on select_dialog_item.xml, select_dialog_singlechoice.xml and select_dialog_multichoice.xml.. It could perhaps be still in styles.xml.. Will someone tell me where?

The problem is that depending on the rom it is in a deifferent place and refered to differently.
Have you looked in the contacts apks and tried to track it down that way?

[Q] Boot audio

Hi all, just got my HOS and am loving it so far (and our community ) and I got my boot animation and down animation changed no problem on stock rom, s-off. Now that leaves me with the boot audio, I want to simply use the htc_boot.mp3 that's already in the resources folder instead of the T-mobile one, I changed the default.xml to
audio="/system/customize/resource/htc_boot.mp3
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
and restarted to test, no audio, then I went back into the xml and noticed right next to the audio string
audiostart="TMOUS"
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
which I believed was the start of the old boot animation, so I changed it from TMOUS to TrueBlack (my bootanimation name) and tested, still no luck, so I'm at a loss here, I figure it has something to do with the audiostart= line but I wanted to come here and ask before I messed with it anymore, any help would be appreciated! And I'm glad to be a part of this community now
My customize.xml currently-

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Also for those of you who haven't done it yet, I just changed the line at the bottom fps="15" from 15 to 30 and the bootup&down looks 20x smoother.
Figured it out, for those of you who'd like to know, on the line
audiostart="TMOUS"
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
simply remove the value, making it
audiostart=""
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
and it'll work to whatever you set the boot audio as.
You could have done it the much easier way and renamed the htc_boot to whatever the name of your previous startup sound was. Saves you going through xmls

aww but that's no fun lol, sometimes the harder path is easier for me, besides I wanted to keep the files original, as why I put TrueBlack.zip and TrueBlackDown.zip in resource instead of just deleting the tmobile ones and naming them after that. An OCD I have kinda :s
