[Q] Broken display, access memory. Quite a conundrum. - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi, fairly new here. I tried to search but came up with nothing. So the screen on my galaxy S vibrant was broken yesterday in a freak. As a result, the display and touch controls don't work. The phone still works, it will receive calls and texts/email, I just have no way to answer or check them. Is there any way to retrieve my info and create a backup from the phone? I was going to upgrade to the 4g version and wanted to transfer my info to it.
Android 2.2
Not rooted
Not in debugging mode
Bluetooth is off
I think wifi is off, too (don't see it in my router settings)
I can connect it to the computer via usb, but I can't mount it w/o the screen.
Is there any app I can install via the market that might help?
Is there a way to just make a backup image of the internal memory?
Thanks for the help.

Possible to extract SMS messages from a RAZR maxx with a broken display?

My friend desparately needs to extract the SMS log from his razr maxx. Unfortunately, he dropped it and the display is completely broken. The phone is unrooted and USB debugging is not enabled. The phone seems to be functional other than the display - the softtouch buttons light up and when plugged in over USB, it is recognized. Is there any method by which I might extract the SMS data for him? Keep in mind that with a broken display, I can't enable debugging or install anything on the phone itself.
I suspect the answer is "no", but I figured I'd check before he has to go through the process of getting a court order to get the logs from verizon.

Unfortunately you need root to do anything that would help. But it appears that the LCD is broken, maybe you could get it replaced?

I have the same problem, but my razr is rooted. Also my phone is locked with the pattern. Can I use the usb to control my phone with my laptop? The cracked screen wont let me enter my pattern. I just need to access the phone and backup the internal memory.
Thanks

If USB-Debugging is enabled on your phone, you might be able to connect from a computer via ADB.
If Debugging is disabled, I don't think you will be able to access the phone via the computer.
There is a lot of tutorials on how to install ADB on your computer if you haven't done yet. Try it to see if you get access.
I have adb installed and bugging is enabled. i can connect to the device, but when I try to do an adb backup it says to say yes to the prompt on the phone. Problem is that I cant use my phone cause of the screen. Is my only option to dock it with a keyboard and mouse? Is there a way to remove the lock pattern through adb??
Update... Here's what I did.
I ran adb pull /mnt/sdcard but that didnt pull my dcim folder. There were two dcim folders. One on the internal sd and one on the external sd.
What's the best way to pull everything off the phone??
When I try to back up it says this...
C:\users\admin>adb backup -all
Now unlock your device and confirm the backup operation.

[Q] Dead screen: Any way to do a full backup to sdcard?

Hi folks
I have a HTC Touch Pro, with a dead screen. It simply won't turn on at all, but I can still hear it boot up and answer phonecalls though. There's no led indicator on the keyboard anymore either and neither does it show the charging light. Basicly all lights are off. Even tried hardresetting, but still absolutely nothing is visible
What I'd like to know if it's possible to make a full backup of the phone to the sd card, as I have another working Touch Pro, that I could restore this backup to then. I've tried connecting the phone to the PC via Activesync, but Windows doesn't recognise the "USB device" and hence Activesync won't sync. I was originaly thinking of using MyMobiler to view what was going on on the phone and take a backup from there, but I'm running out of options now
I really hope someone out there could have a solution so I might recover some of the photo's that are still lying on the device.
Thanks for your interest

broken android screen, some limited remote access, need data backup

Hi guys
Due to unforeseen consequences during a holiday, a beer bottle got dropped on my phone and it cracked the screen. Now I want to take a backup of my photos before I send for repairs and I will appreciate any help I can get! Here are the details:
Phone: Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
Firmware: Stock Sony Kitkat, non rooted
Screen: Cracked, funny colours cannot see anything on the screen and touch does not work
USB Debugging Mode: Off
Wifi: On
Resources Available: OTG cable, AndroidLost is installed (its for finding your lost phone with a multitude of other useful features as well - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidlost), MHL cable ordered online and on the way...
So firstly, I plugged in the phone to my laptop and could not open the Internal Storage as I had a pattern lock set up. But thankfully, using Androidlost I could unlock the phone remotely (it resets and disables the lock). Once it opened I could see that my internal storage was full (around 11 gigs) and I could browse all my files. I didn't have the time to transfer my files at the time so I thought I will do it later and switched everything off. This happened once more when I accessed it from another laptop but again got interrupted and decided to back it up later.
Now strangely, the third time I tried this (and on multiple laptops now), the Internal Storage is only showing 7.5gb of 11gb used, and when I open it most folders are missing and most files are missing from the folders which are present. It may be some weird issue of MTP or MSC mode or something, not sure.
I've ordered an MHL cable so I can plug in to my TV and see if the files are present if I browse through the phone. Its really weird though, wonder how the files disappeared if they have.
I also tried to access my phone through an Ubuntu machine but was not successful in mounting it.
And I also tried to put in an SD card and browse that through a laptop, and I could do that but the internal storage remained the same.
One path I was following - using Android Lost I can open any app on my phone remotely. I can install any app using Google Play store on a browser. I can figure out the LAN IP address through my router/netscan. Is there any app you think I can install to remotely make my phone an FTP server or something so I can browse my files that way? The only problem is I cannot click 'Start' or anything which most such apps require so once the app is launched everything else must be remote-doable.
Thanks for taking out the time to read this!

Very lengthy question.
So you want to make your phone an FTP server. I have a great solution for that
Install the legendary ES File Explorer from the Play Store
Select Remote Manager from the option, it will turn on WIFI hotspot and also give a FTP address. Just connect your PC with wifi and enter the addresss in any web browser you want
That's all
Hit thanks if helped

Hi Sushant,
thanks for reading the whole thing and for your suggestion.
I can install ES File Explorer. I can start the app remotely using Android Lost. Problem is, I cannot use my screen so I cannot go to the options and select remote manager.

i really really want to help OP but i cant think of the name of the app. its something like vlc, vhc, vcl, the point is. you can control the screen remotly over the same wifi network. i think if you could install the app remotly and install it on your computer, you would be able to unclock it remotly because you can see the screen on your computer.
if i remember the name i will post it for you. good luck OP!
Thank you Phurkus! I think you may be referring to VNC.
I found an app called 'VNC Server' that you can connect to using Real VNC on your computer. But after launching this app, it needs me to tap 'On' before it starts so again, no-go.
I'll search around for an app that uses VNC that doesn't require any set up on the android side besides just being installed and launched. Thanks again!

[Completed] Nexus 6P Broken Screen but working digitizer, how to enable USB and recover data

Hey Guys, I have a weird situation that I can't find much info on (if the info exists, please point me in the right direction).
Recently my screen died on my Nexus 6P, Google sent me a new one under warranty and it will arrive in a few days, however I want to recover my data (particularly text messages, contacts, app data, and settings from the old phone before sending it back in.
As the phone sits now, the screen shows no display, however the digitizer works and I can unlock the phone with the fingerprint reader. The phone is running marshmallow and has not been rooted.
How would I go about either enabling MTP mode so I can transfer the files over USB, or turn on USB debugging without being able to view what I am doing? Is there a way to use voice commands to change settings? Is there any way to change these settings from a computer (doubt it).

Forgotten passcode - no wifi, data or debugging on.

Hi guys,
Im in big big trouble. I have samsung A5 (2015) which I did not use for the past few months. Now when I decieded to sell it and to put my pictures and docs
on hard disk, It happened that I forgot my passcode. So the device is not connected with the internet, and debugging mode is off. I have many files in the device itself and not on SD.
I tried ADB with no success - that's how i know that the device is not in debugging mode.
I opened my google account to check - the device is not active.
No custom recovery installed or ROOT - everything is stock.
I tried to call on the number to try to connect to wifi when in dialing mode, but than I remembered that I redirected my calls to my actual number.
So is there any solution? I searched the web for the past few days and I'm about to lose hope.
Thanks in advance!

Well I'm not sure there is any way to get those files off of the device without remembering the password. If the files aren't too important and you still want to sell the phone, just boot to the bootloader (power off, then hold power, volume up, and home at the same time until bootloader loads) and use the volume down key to go down to wipe data/ factory reset and click volume up to do it. Of course you won't get to keep the files, but the password wouldn't be an issue anymore.
Thanks for the answer. I would like to make everything possible to save the files first, but as I continue to research.. maybe Im out of options
I managed to log in my Samsung account "find my mobile" where I have an option to remotely disable the passcode, but since I do not have internet connection Im not able to do anything.
So sad.. files are there but I can't reach them.. because of my stupid head..
If some have any idea - I'm ready to try whatever.
Thanks in adnvance!

I actually just thought of something. If you are able to remotely remove the password, but can't get to the wifi, you might be able to use an OTG cable (micro USB to full usb) and get a USB to Ethernet adapter to plug your phone into your router for a wired internet connection. I'm not sure if this would work for Android or for this specific phone, but that's possibly a way.
