hello all. i got myself a wifi xoom, then rooted it. the thing is now my xoom is soft rebooting when im doing minimal tasks like surfing the web, n64oid, etc. ive barely expierienced any FC issues as im crashing way to much. is this a known issue of honeycomb or do i have faulty hardware and am stuck with it till a wifi recovery is found or created?
its lasting approx 10 minutes if im lucly b4 i get a soft reboot. and i dont even have the overclock kernel overclocking
anytime i open an application, i get a softreboot.
ok ive master rest my entire phone. let it settle. now everything is causing a reboot. i use web browser for 10 minutes and i get a soft reboot. i go into market and get a soft reboot. im super scared here as i just blew 700 bucks i knew i shoudnt have spent on a device that is messing up after 2 days of use
if i use root explorer to remove the superuser apk, is there anyay future shop could tell its hacked?
Superuser apk isn't the only part of the root process. If you get the logcat output when it crashes and post it online, maybe we could help more.

I have two questions for you...
Did you only root it or did you load a custom rom onto it and did you overclock it?

Hi Guys
Samsung Captivate is my very first Smartphone and i always knew i was gonna get an android phone.
I bought this phone yesterday and i absolutely love it.
But i am facing some problems
1. the phone is a bit laggy.
2. the battery life doesnt seem very great.
3. The third one is very weird. I went to the android market to download apps. Once i select an app to download and install, there is no notification on the top area where it should show it. I mean it takes almost 10-15 minutes for that notification to show up and the phone is very unresponsive during these times. Also the music player crashed a couple of times.
Has anyone come across this problem. Please let me know!
Well , that was the first part..
I want to know the experiences of people who have already rooted the phone and installed Froyo on it. What are the noticeaable changes? Is there any improvement in battery life?
I am pretty sure i wanna root this phone and get rid of the ATT apps etc etc.
BTW i have attached a wallpaper which i hope u guys will like
Cheers

There is no Froyo for captivate , not yet anyway.
Root by itself doesn't fix anything , just lets you change system files and tinker around, more freedom so to speak.
Personally i am not having those problems, maybe you installed something that is eating up all resources, i have had similar problems on my Nexus one when i was downloading bunch of random programs and experimenting...
Try one of those app killers or restart phone maybe.

I factory reset my phone too , and i still have to install apps after resetting. Will keep you guys updated. BTW i thought rooting was to install froyo on the captivate.
I did not know tht it was just for the workarounds.
Hello guys
Please help me
I still am facing the same problem.
I have installed the AppBrain and fest web browser apps too, but somehow it still takes me a minimum of 10-15 mins before the download begins. And during that time the phone is very slow and unresponsive.
Is anyone else facing the same problem.
Please let me know!

I've noticed something similar to what you are talking about, but defiantly not to such extend. Marketplace seems to be slow on my phone, at least comparing to my brother's Evo. Sometimes just after I start download of a new app, the phone becomes unresponsive for a bit, but it doesn't freeze or anything, just I start noticing some lag, that's all. To your other concerns:
1. Remove Live Wallpaper and as many widgets from your screen as you can. After I did that, I don't have any lag at all. You can also use manual task killer application to shut down all of the AT&T crap that runs on background (and prevent them to start up again).
2. Coming from feature phone, battery live will always look bad on the Smartphone. For me, battery lasts the whole day, from 9AM till 12PM even with a heavy use. For a Smartphone, that's good results.
Only times I have had lag is when something is installing. Also when my network connection is bad and something is trying to pull data.
But then again i just switched from a Kaiser running WinMo to this phone, so I may just be use to lag by now

My Motorola Triumph keeps randomly rebooting and the battery goes from 90% to 7% suddenly sometimes. I had the phone for a week so far and the frequence of restarts is increasing. I don't have any task killer app.
Is it some software that I am using or it's a hardware issue? Do you think I should have the phone replaced by Virgin Mobile?

Try charging it all the way and using cwm to wipe the battery stats. That should fix the battery drain. The reboots I would try wiping Dalvik, cache, and last first data if the first 2 wipes don't help at all.

I just figured out the problem has to do with wifi. When I turn it off and use 3G instead the mobile becomes stable (so far). Is anyone facing the same problem or it's just me? Is there a fix?
Does it have a custom ROM on it? I've seen around the forums that there has been issues with the MT and wifi on the ROMs

No. But the frequency of the reboots increased after I re-installed the original MT stock ROM.
When I first bough the device it restarted once or twice a day. Now it reboots non stop unless I take out the battery. I re-installed the stock ROM from another source but the problem persisted. The problem goes away when I turn off wifi abut comes back when I turn it on.
Sounds like something to do with the kernel, not the ROM... maybe. I had horrible luck with any and all custom kernels for a long while. Although that's just my luck, might not be yours...
Looks like you had a problem from the beginning... Try everything stock, and if it's still there, return it... Wow my first post in years...
I know someone who had the same problem..
switched to the iPhone 4s...
Same here...
Me too...
I have this problem as well. I am going to try the CM7 mod to see if that goes away. I have also isolated it to WiFi.
Problem solved!

Wohooooooooooooo The problem DOES go away with CM7 beta 8 !!!! It's like magic!
Phone no longer reboots randomly
Wifi is stable and does not disconnect or cause the phone to reboot or the battery to heat up
And battery life improved 300%!!! I now charge it every other day with moderate 3g/wifi usage!
I had CM7 for three weeks so far and my frustration turned into happiness! It's just amazing how changing the software makes a HUGE difference!! Before CM7 I always felt like smashing my MT because of the hard time it gave me!
I followed the instructions on: http://www.motorolatriumphhacks.com/
i am having the same problem.I am running cm9 with latest update, out of know where my phone started rebooting on its own or while i was doing something or playing a game and it is doing it more and more. What should i do.

as far as ive seen with both cm7 and cm9, random reboots houldnt be an issue anymore, but for other still having the issue it usually comes from about 4 things over the rest
1. faulty hardware, which normally isnt the case, if faulty hardware was the issue you'd probly be seeing more then random reboots, but its still possible
2. Rom didn't take correctly during flash, either by chance, or because the phone wasent properly cleared and now settings are "head butting"
3. Running a custom rom in which you can adjust the cpu and the settings are either to low or to high, both can cause reboots
4. Most common one ive seen by far outta them all, Apps, certain apps especially after some updates will "play tricks" on the device and for some reason cause reboots sometimes, usually the next update of said app will resolve the issue but not always, so if you find an app thats the culprit you can notify that apps developer
you can always try and go back to 100% stock and see if the issue is still there but if your like me you probly hate the stock froyo by now lol
It may seem painful or whatnot but unless you find exactly what may be causing the reboots the best bet overall would be
Do a complete Fresh install of whatever rom you use, dont flash anything besides the rom and gapps if needed, also dont restore any backups yet, just to be sure
Once the fresh new rom is booted i turn the phone off then back on for safe measures lol
Now if you can lol try running the phone with No aftermarket apps besides any/if any that came on the rom, if the problem is gone you know for sure here that it was one of your apps
then 1 by 1 install your apps and give it some time in between app installs to see if the problem comes back and hopefully this way if it does youll know which app is causing troubles
FAQ
To quote directly from my FAQ,
"Reboots on Android are a pain, and can be attributed to multiple sources. I’ve been able to successfully reduce the amount of reboots that I get, but never eliminate them… Anyhow, here’s some troubleshooting information:
1. Format SD card in Windows (back up your SD card data first!) Make sure you format to FAT32. Don’t try formatting it in Linux. I have done this before and the phone wouldn’t boot up!
2. Slightly overclocking prevents some freezes.
Under Settings > Cyanogenmod Settings > Performance overclock the max speed to around 1300-1400ish. This should speed the phone up, but not to the point of the thing overheating
3. Fix SD Card permissions. Do this by booting into Recovery (You can do that if you have this ROM installed) and go to advanced > Fix SD card permissions. Now reboot.
4. Do not use Firefox, except the Nightly builds. Firefox has went through drastic speed and performance improvements recently, but the older builds, despite being called stable, are so slow, they will make the phone freeze and reboot. Yes, this includes Aurora. UPDATE: All Firefox versions except stable (ironic, eh?) have been used by me personally and have not made my phone reboot. Make sure you’re on at least version 14. (This one doesn't apply as much anymore, I need to update my FAQ!)
5. Give the phone a break from time to time. After intensive gaming for hours on end, the phone will often reboot while exiting a game.
That’s all the tips I have. I managed to drastically reduce my reboots by doing these, but not eliminate them completely. I hope g60madman or mantera find some hidden timeout value in the kernel (if one exists, like the auto reboot on BSOD in Windows) and either lengthens the timeout value or disables automatic rebooting so if this is a kernel panic, we may see the debugging details and upload them to fix some crashes.
6. Make sure that you have the VM heap size set to be adequate enough. I recommend at least 24 MB, preferably anywhere from 32 MB and up if you want the phone to last a while without rebooting.
7. Sometimes a cache wipe and dalvik cache wipe are needed to stop bootloops. Unfortunately, every once in a while, you may start getting bootloops. This usually due to some sort of corruption in the cache or dalvik cache. You can safely clear them through Clockworkmod Recovery without loosing any data, and this usually fixes the problem. If not, do a factory reset through Clockworkmod Recovery and reinstall this ROM."
My brothers Xoom which is the original and new out of the box every time he restarts it prompts him to do the setup wizard, anyone know why?
It seems like it doesnt save his settings regardless of having the settings all correct. Im not a xoom man as have the notion ink, vega and ipad so if anyone does know please let me know what we can try.
Its 32gb and not rooted and brand new out of the box.
Thanks!
Maybe the best, since it's brand-new and not modded (it IS not modded, right?) is to bring it to Motorola for repair? Or use the warranty to replace it? Cause there may be a solution for it now, but who knows if it will cause any more problems in the future?
EDIT: Just noticed I answered everything with a question. I mean: with a question?
Yes its not modded in anyway as I think he got it about 6 months ago and has never really used it. It has honeycomb as sold and even requests an update but even that after downloading and rebooting does nothing as it goes into the setup wizard again and then requests you to download the update again which seems to suggest its not doing anything. The unit is 32 gb internal and shows approx 29 gb still available. If it was mine I would be mods it was mine I would of nodded that ages ago but very strange it keeps doing this.
Just want to know if anyone has experienced this with a xoom
at all?
Just do a master reset and wipe the Xoom.

Yeah I did a factory data reset and its doing exactly the same. Every time you reboot after installing apps or the update its asking to apply it kicks into the setup wizard. Baffled now! !!
Hi, I just recently rooted my phone and I am having a weird problem every couple of days the phone will reboot and just get stuck in a reboot loop, it wont go past the HTC splash screen I have to pull the battery out to get it to start normal. It seems to happen every 2 days or when I am doing something that I guess uses alot of memory like Netflix. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix it? I tried uninstalling all apps that are for rooted uses but still nothing. Even put the processor back to 1ghz.
Did you read the ARHD Q&A thread? You know, the one where this question should have been posted.

yes, if your question is concerning a specific ROM please use the respective Q&A thread. Random restarts can be any number of things. Typically they're either due to OC/UV or a bad battery. If you have another battery that you know is good, try it and see if that remedies the situation. Also make sure your kernel is not UV'ed.

Hi there, I hope you guys can help me out on this.
I just got my HOS a few days ago and it was all good.
Rooted it after 1 day, everything was fine.. at first.
Played a few games, installed themes and so on. After a few hours, my HOS began to vibrate out of nowhere and apps started here and there, menu opens on its own and all that stuff. It was out of control xD
I then saw that theres an update available. Flashed stock recovery and unrooted it. Afterwards, I installed 1.78. Still unrooted, downloading most of my Apps again, works flawless. Gaming(specially Temple Run xD) is smooth.
Yesterday, I decided to root it again. At first no problems at all.
Just now on the train, playing Temple Run again, my HOS started going crazy, vibrating all the time as if it is pressing buttons on its own and I see the phone doing all kinda stuff(opening new apps, browsing thru home screen etc xD).
Has anyone else expierenced something similar? I have no idea where its coming from and it really annoys the hell out of me.
Right now I'm on TrickDroid v3.1 (wiped system/data/dalvik/cache before flashing)
Kernel: 3.0.8-01136-g9d2ad32
Baseband: 0.16.31501S.17_2_10.23.31501S.10L
Build: 1.70.666.1 CL52668
That really is strange !!! Its as if root contains some sort of poltergeist
I would have imagined a factory reset would have cleared it up, But in your case it didnt....
Have you tried an alternative rooting method ?
Nope, I did not. Always used the All-In-One Toolkit, except for when I flashed Trickdroid, since it comes rooted.
Is it ok if I unroot the HOS with Rootkeeper(is this just temp. unroot?) and then root it again with Superboot?
Unbranded HOS bought in Germany, if that matters. Also, no other recovery works for me except Intermin, CWM just won't boot for me.
that is weird...
Unlocking the bootloader was successful right ?
I dont understand why your phone is rejecting software lol.. Oh and I didnt know root keeper can unroot ive never used it..
how i got root was by flashing paul obriens recovery and then the root package zip file.. I did this on day one and have never had any issues at all.. Ive tested every single ROM and every single recovery lol..
Make a nandroid in recovery and just test out different methods and try get this issue fixed. If you have any issues just restore the nandroid..
Check your phone for remote access apps, maybe you got hacked. Most of those require root to function. Also check your google account for which IPs logged in and check the password recovery options for weird emailadresses and phonenumbers...
Ars has a writeup on hardening your android device, not very technical but some good stuff there. http://arstechnica.com/security/201...-smartphone-against-stalkers-android-edition/
Forget whatever i wrote.
My HOS registers my thumb, even tho I'm not touching it at all. If I'm like 5mm away from the screen, it registers it as if I'd touched it. My gf also has a HOS and it acts only if I touch the screen.
I also noticed that the hotter my HOS gets, the distance increases at which it recognized my "touch".
The distant screen touch has happened on my uprooted tmo us HOS. I've also experienced some craziness out of the device. I've kept it stock, no unrooting/rooting going on.
I was thinking an exchange with HTC cause I also have excessive battery drain and wavy lines in the screen but now I also have an awesome cracked screen too :-\
