This is a placeholder for discussion about development on the HTC 7 Trophy!
Place holder for what exactly? Someone posts a new thread then bam, you're no longer the first post and if there is any development for the phone they aren't going to use this thread.
I see no purpose in doing this, and there's no reason I should be posting haha so I'm being as dumb as you right now !

Well this is a interesting discussion. I think I really should add something to it. Placeholders are nice. I like placeholders, without it a newly created forum looks so empty. I think we should keep this thread. Great thread.
im interested in whether anyone actually has a trophy, i want to upgrade from my desire (great fone) to the trophy, wp7 looks interesting, but im worried about:
1) Limitations of the OS
2) ROM development
3) M$
So how is the experience

You are way of topic !
I think WP7 is the most sexiest OS around. It's very user friendly and it is very fun to use (lots of animations and nice graphics, colors etc). On the other hand, it's not a platform for powerusers, like for example Android.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803103
this is really a great sign eventually will come to the captivate.
Lol this should have just been added to one of the many threads about cm6.
But thats just my opinion.
I only put it here cause it has to do with development, I'll let the admins handle where they want to move it to.
Moved to general, but with permanent redirect in place from development so people can find this.
cant wait for this!
Now that we've managed to get into an Android GUI and have a working touch screen driver,we need experienced rom builders to come forward to develop android sdcard based roms.
If you have the experience and would like to get involved, now is the time to step forward and get involved.
Please post here or contact Markinus or myself on the irc #toshdroid channel.
Thanks
Noone? Sad
I would make a request in the general Android Development section bally3. It's not like many Android dev's will be browsing the other sections of typically non-Android phones.

I use Linux all the time at home and work! I now feel how useful it could have been if I spent some time playing with ROM building etc rather than playing with WinMo customizations! I am so following the android on tg01-type threads Will try to spread the word too and see if anyone can come forward to help
Good luck and keep up the good work
BUMP!!
I want to bump this thread, any progress? We need as many devs as possible. we have come so far, let it not end here!!
Shall we post this in a Android Development Forum?
Hi all , as the title says is there any way to port gingerbread to i9003?
What are all the changes that have to be done in the gingerbread rom to make it work with i9003?
Can we take the drivers for i9000 from its original firmware and merge it with gingerbread.
I know if we flash the wrong firmware it wont go past the samsung logo. But what is making it to stop there??
1.Hardware Drivers?.
2.Phone model conflict.?
Post your ideas and opinions.....
I don't think it would be possible, not without ALOT of work anyway. I think I remember 'curio tweeting about it having completely different hardware, although I could well be wrong...
Curio only said that the audio hadware is different. Why cant we remove the drivers of i9000 from that gingerbread rom and replace it with i9003 drivers. May be it is easy to say but hard to achieve, i want to take some initial steps towards it...
Any guidance from developers will be helpful
We need some experienced developers to start this or else wait for official version from samsung.

not just that. you guys have a different cpu/gpu too.
Ya the CPU/GPU/CHIPSET/AUDIO are different, but we have all the required drivers and files in the i9003 original rom file. WHy cant we replace those in the gingerbread rom. I may be wrong , but its not at all impossible.
You make it sound so easy. You can't just replace the drivers with i9003 ones without editing the software to be compatible with the new drivers. Just wait for gingerbread
Galaxy S - no point in writing rom or kernel constantly changing!
The linux kernel in Gingerbread is different. That's why drivers from old kernel can be incompatible. Also we don't have sources to compile new drivers.

None of the developers are interested in this phone. In spite of consistent requests we have not been provided a separate section at XDA. Either Admin does not like this phone or they are waiting for some developer to take initiative. Even the cheapest phone has a development thread within a short period of its release. May be its a fate of I9003 users.
I think that all because the phone is available in specific countriea bot widly spread

Been said before buy the devs a few phones they cannot work on something they have not got .They do not get paid to work on giving you a nice rom .
So please donate at least one I9003 .
jje
I heard that we have to donate a mobile of the same model to xda so that the developers will start their work. is that true?
What do you do when you come home from work ??
Go out and buy a phone you dont want and start development work on it for no money as a hobby ??? . To give away to unknown persons .
Devs are people that work on stuff for free its a hobby not a job .
Personally if i was able to do all that development stuff i would be looking at the SGS 2 now .

May be what you are saying is right, but what is stopping XDA admin to provide us a separate section for I9003? Atleast we will have some hope seeing our own section... How can ppl reach a developer at a forum where we do not even know who is a developer here? Why will somebody even show interest in the development of the device which is not listed??? that can be another reason. Its need to be popular for someone to be attracted. When I want to read posts related to my device here, I have search through 100s of I9000 posts, I have to search my own post in the forum, it goes untraceable. What do you think about this? do you think we need to donate the phone to XDA moderators too to create a section?
@JJE, do you mind telling us which phone do you own?
@trip
If I remember correctly jje has a SGS.
He is one of the most helpful people around. I have read his posts in different phone's sections and found them to be helpful and motivating.
Even here his suggestion is practical.
All those wonderful people who develop for SGS (darky, curio, etc) own that device. We need to have developers from within our own group only first. Others could chip in and help us.
Ok then lets donate a phone to darky or some reputed developer and ask to help us. But my point is we need separate section for the phone for all the developments posts and attract other developers. Its easy for some ppl to donate when they gain some thing in return, I mean to continue the development support.

Contacted a moderator via mail. For getting a separate section for our mobile he says we have to keep on requesting in the "Android General" forum. Once there is 1000+ requests, they will decide about a new sub forum.
@bala, lets do it then.

Post daily in that request thread & all i9003 users add that thread link in your signature that way all new users will get to see that thread & will post request to cross 1000s post mark soon. Next 10-15 days we should have it done.
What do you say?
Hey guys, this is my first post on the forum.
I checked some other threads to make sure they don't have the exact criteria that i'm posting and
couldn't find anything, so to the mods, i'm sorry if this has already been discussed.
Please notify me and I will re-route to the correct thread.
I've had an htc aria(liberty, gratia) for the past two years and I rooted it and flashed cyanogenmod but that was the extent of my knowledge.
I've now switched carriers to Sprint and am running a MotoPhoton Q 4g Lte(rooted and custom recovery).
The reason for this post is I've noticed what seems to be a general lack of developers for this device (partially because the stock rom is very efficient), but I would like to start contributing.
I've got plenty of free time and would consider myself generally competent, and i've browsed the android developer's site for app building.
The question I present to the community (particularly developers) is how did you learn the system and get to where you are? What tools did you find easiest to use that also helped you learn the essentials? I would particularly like to develop roms and platforms, but would it be best to start with apps?
I hope my questions were clear and correctly placed, thanks in advance for any replies!
EDIT: this should be in Q&A
Moved. At least you realised where it should be so happy to help
Thanks
AvRS
Google has a nice training center for sdk & dev, might be a good starting point.
