[Q]Break Contract/Best Buy Fee Also? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hate the TMobile Data Cap I have and want to switch to Sprint.
I have had my phone for 2 months and am locked in my contract. Since I bought the phone for just $200.00 with contract, I know that if I break my contract it is $200.00. But is there any more extra charges I have to pay since I got the phone for $200 at best buy?

Nevermind i emailed sprint and they also have a 5gb cap now.

where did u get ur captivate at?

i see a lot of good deals on amazon, wirefly, lets talk.... but i dont know if i can trust those websites or just go to at&t... i really think im gonna choose a captivate over the iphone 4. seeing all the various homescreen mods on a thread here made me want it more lol. so where did u guys get it from and how much? if u got them not at at&t how does the it change ur service plan? does it stay the same? thanks everyone and hope to get a captivate, root and enjoy? im coming from a tilt 2 running one of nrg'z ROM's and have android 2.2 as well . cant wait to see froyo on this beast!
I got mine from Amazon, had to change/add the data plan (didn't get grandfathered in). I think letstalk is the only one that provides an option during checkout to "keep current unlimited plan" as of right now.
Amazon is definitely the best price for just the phone, but if you want to keep your data plan, I believe letstalk is the one you have to go to. You don't confirm any changes until you submit the order just to check, I did the same thing when I was shopping around.
Well I bought mine from a corporate store on launch day of the phone. I got to keep my unlimited data plan because otherwise I would have bought it out right at that point.
HTH,
Charlie
199.99 plus tax a few minutes after it became available on AT&Ts website
Got mine from wirefly, letstalk is another place. Nothing wrong with these sites, just more bs to deal with when ordering

Amazon from the 1 penny sale. New ATT customer here.
I bought it a day after it was released at the nearby corporate store with no contract for $350.
Got mine at walmart for $148.88 on an upgrade.

Where was it? I was about to buy one from craigslist for $350. Would anyday prefer the phone without contract at that price.
And was that a Samsung corporate store?
$199.99+tax, upgrade, 11AM EST opening day
Got two,
For the wife - Free with an contract renewal from Letstalk.
For me - Sold old iphone 3GS 32 gig (in contract till march'11), and invested the money on unopened Captivate of Craigslist for $330 USD, still have about $100 in pocket to look at avialable options to upgrade with contract revewal come march.
Btw, will ATT honor the 1 yr warranty on the captivate bought off craigslist?
Um, probably not..
$99 from Lets Talk
I got mine at Best Buy through their Best Buy Mobile department and they price matched Wirefly which had it at $169.99 a few weeks ago. Funny thing is my contract extended, but I still have my upgrade discount for another phone too.
Bought it at Best buy on launch day for $199.
Contacted AT&T 29 days later to complain about GPS and told them I was switching carriers.
They offered to give me the phone for free.
Got my 199. credit and I'm good to go.
net cost: $0 for the phone

I'm surprised AT&T did that since the GPS issue has nothing to do with them. It's all Samsung's fault.

Anyone at AT&T should know a GPS problem is not due to the network. Bottom line is they will do anything to keep you under contract, probably even more so if you're one of those deviants that likes Android better than the iPhone, lol.
I got mine off eBay for $400. I saw it cheap on NewEgg and you could keep your unlimited data plan.
$99 at AT&T, kept my unlimited data plan from my iPhone 3G. Talked to customer service and they told me if you have unlimited data you will keep it as long as you keep a smart phone and dont switch your data plan.

(Q) How much did you pay for your Inspire 4G?

How much did you pay for your phone? And was it on or off contract?
$178.99 off contract thru premier store. No commitment. No contract extension. However there was a flaw in their system that they have since fixed.

Wow. Lucky!
Off what?
Isnt there 3 of these threads now?
99.
-50 recycle rebate at RS
$49 dollars
I paid $79 with contract
BUT I am grandfathered on a very old unlimited data plan plus 200 SMS for $35.
Also I'm happy with AT&T so why not?

128.99 with contract extension from wal-mart. It was only 99.99 at ATT, but they didn't have any in stock and I wanted one right then
$80 on contract at Costco.
Swyped from my Desire HD using XDA App
My buddy just picked one up for free with a contract extension. The guy at att said he was a good customer.
$99 on contract (best buy)
Via the XDA app for the HTC Inspire
130 out of pocket in total 380 (sold my captivate on craiglist for 250)

$90 after taxes but before the $18 upgrade fee from Costco. Includes an accessories bag, which has a belt case, crappy headphones and a working car charger which I was very happy about. This is on contract by the way.
69.99 Amazon with contract.
I want eligible for upgrade, att gave me $249 but added few of accessories and bluetooth. Phone came to $179. I check best buy, best they could was sell me retail.
Note that another att store i went to say $299 for my situation. 2nd att store is $249 befire the extra acc i bought the same time. Didnt hesitate. Although my next upgrade date is 2 years from now. And i still kept the unlimited data plan.
Not bad of a deal afterall, considering that i shelled out $700 for the touch pro wgen it first came out (dumb move)
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I paid 299 each for them with early upgrades on non data lines, but had them add the phones to the 2 data lines. My kids dont need data on thier lines.
I feel the phone is worth it and i have been waiting a long time for att to get something like this in. Im not sure if im going to keep using the inspire or the dell, yet. But my wife feels better now that she has a real replacement to the EDGE only hd2 she had before the crapdivate she just replaced.
$70 on contract with amazon and new contract but convinced ATT to give me a statement credit because my last phone's screen died three days ago after 10 months, so it was free
...except for the upgrade fee
I might just have to get one off Craigslist but its like 400 bucks.

$49.99 from AT$T , off contract but with a new commitment. It was a knife in my side to " re-up " with AT$T because they suck so bad.
Would have gone to T-mobile, but really wanted this phone. Here's hoping that AT$T bites the dust now that their cash cow ( iPhone ) has been spread a little thinner.

That means that my 2 year contract from my Tilt ended and I was free to take my number to another carrier with no early termination fees to AT$T.
After 18 months AT$T will allow you to upgrade your phone at a discounted price if you sign a new 2 year contract. But you cannot go to another carrier until your contract is up.
I had to sign another 2 year contract, so AT$T will easily make up the cost of the phone by taking everything I own and my first born child in outrageous service/data plans and obnoxious fees. There is a reason they are at the bottom of every customer satisfaction survey. They work hard to be there

HTC one s down payment refund promotion

Starting tomorrow tmobile USA will have free down payment for HTC one s after rebate in the month September's in value plans. 50 down and you get 50 back.

Bought my One S yesterday for $0 after the $50 rebate. Classic plan is still less expensive than AT&T considering T-Mobile's new unlimited data plan. On top of that get the corporate 15% discount on the $400 I will pay over the value plan and I have an insurable One S through T-Mobile and Wells Fargo credit card for $360. Not a bad deal and beats buying one on craigslist.
So, be carefull.... what you think is full price may not be exactly true. $450 comes to mind.
Sorry guys the email I obtained was incorrect I edit to avoid confusion

Swap Phone?

So, I want the One lol. I signed a contract with AT&T last year for my XL, does this mean I would get a early termination fee if I bought a One and stuck my sim in it?

Why would you want the one when HTC will release another phone in 5-8 months?Let's be smart here, 2 year contract right? 10 dollars is subtracted a month from Etf so 1 year is 120$ so around 200$ for etf and probably another 200 for the phone.400$ total plus tax.

Why would I need an unlocked one? It wouldn't work if I got one on craigslist or eBay that wasn't unlocked, for AT&T?
you would only pay an early term fee if you bought it from at&t. if you buy it anywhere else you won't.
if you buy one from craigslist or ebay you'll be fine.

Awh yeah. That's what I'm talking about. Now to find a cheap One...
I think paying etf and the phone price would be cheaper, you would be looking at maybe 440$( if the price above remains true, usually good smartphones start from 199$ and mabye more for the expanded memory on the phone)(32,64,etc)depending on the release price of the HTC one.And usually eBay is sketchy. You should look on amazon, alot more safe.no contract prices online are usually hiked up and you would be looking to pay 500$+
As someone who worked for AT&T wireless, mainly tech support, for three years, here is how the breakdown works. First, the contract does NOT mean you cannot use another phone. The whole point of a contract is to allow you to buy a phone a very low price. For example, the HTC One X+ is aorund $400-500 retail. But when you sign a two-year contract, you agree to stay with AT&T for two years, and in return you get a phone at a discounted price. That is ALL the contract is for. If you dropped the $400-500, then you will not sign a contract. The ETF start at $325, and decreases $10 every month. Yes, even in the 23rd month, you will still have to pay $60 to get out of contract.
Now to answer your other question, if you put your sim card into a new phone, it will not do anything wrong to your account. Just like if you put it into an iPhone, it does nothing, but allow you to use certain network features. Can't remember if the One has LTE, but if it does, then data should still work. If not, call AT&T and get re-provisioned for the regular smartphone data plan. Just wanted to clear it up for anyone who wanted to know.

Don't forget activation fees. When all is said and done (ETF, activation fee, subsidized price) it might just make more sense for the OP to just stay on contract, and buy from AT&T at the full retail (unsubsidized price), which they will do. Or like you said, Amazon is a good place to check to, as they often have some very competitive pricing.

How did you purchase your note

With Verizon trying to move away from contracts how did you purchase your note 5
I used The Edge but will most likely pay it off sooner than two years. I get a $15.00 discount on every phone on the edge so it isn't all that bad for me.
Paid $800 cash
Bought it through a Comcast promo using Edge to get them, activated 2 lines getting 2 x $200 gift cards, traded in a couple of old smart phones to Verizon, getting 2 x $200 gift cards from Verizon. When I get the gift cards in I will pay off the Note 5 and other filler phone with those gift cards.
Paid 839.00 tax included

I purchased from Best Buy with a 10%off coupon. 629.99 for Verizon 32gb
I purchased full price from best buy planning to get the free wireless charger and the $200 trade in on my old phone while keeping my unlimited data. However best buy lied. They said in their ad that I just had to activate the phone, what they meant was I had to activate it on a new contract.
I did get them to price match Verizon tho

I have unlimited data. I am adding a new line and doing the device payment using the Comcast link. I will get $200 visa gift card from Comcast. I will trade in a phone to get the $200 trade in. I may try to port a number for the extra $100. The $40 activation fee was waived. I will suspend and cancel the line. I will end up with $400-$500 in gift cards and account credit. I intend to sell my note 4. Hopefully I should get over $300 for it. In the end it will cost me less then $200.
I still have a couple thousand in account credit from this.

Full price, which I'd typically only do for a developer edition. No regrets thus far.
Could someone tell me what they're paying for a single line with tax? I'm looking to switch to Verizon but I'm thinking they'll kill me on tax. I want to buy the note 5 is why I'm in this forum.
